Please owl me if you'd like to join this rp! Right now it's Amadea, Sophie, Anatole, Isabella, Max, Dorian, Eris and Reid. Plus anyone who's been attacked by the person!
Hunched over one of the many desks in the vast library, Cecilia looked every inch the studious Ravenclaw her house called for. Upon closer inspection, however, the young girl wasn't studying for her next exam, but instead poring over numerous papers with notes haphazardly scribbled and various drawings of what appeared to be a person. She was also muttering under her breath, just loud enough for someone nearby to make out small curses in a very Glaswegian accent.
Her hair was let out to cover much of her work from peering eyes, and she had placed herself in a spot where she could view the entrance. Her green eyes glanced up repeatedly over the course of several minutes, and she'd very nearly glare at people in suspicion. She was clearly looking for someone, but she was also quite on edge. Parts of her cloak that she had draped over the back of the chair were singed, and some areas nearly burned through. Apparently she only owned one. Cecilia herself appeared unharmed, yet her frame was stiff, fists flexing as she fiddled with her pen.
Groaning, Cecilia leaned back in her seat, holding up one of the many drawings. It was a rough sketch, the artist, while semi-talented, obviously having drawn it in minutes. It still clearly showed a figure standing in what was a doorway, with a straight line pointing at two stick figures. The curly lines were apparently hair, the figures both girls. The line, which was a wand, had orange and yellow flames popping out of it, and there was no face on the caster. Only darkness. Many question marks surrounded the figure, the artist clearly frustrated with whoever it was.
Slamming the paper down with more force and noise than necessary, she looked back to the entrance. Nothing. Sighing again, she looked at the little reporter's notebook she had purchased. The Ravenclaw crest was on the cover. Any other Ravenclaws could identify Cecilia as the newly hired reporter for the House's newspaper. What they probably didn't know, was that she was assigned to write about the rumours surrounding the person attacking students. She'd also probably be known for being one of the ones attacked by them, alongside the Slytherin student Isabella Hills. She shuddered at the memory. She still had yet to step foot back into the Trophy Room, where the damage of the fire was thankfully nothing but cosmetic.
The rumours of this masked figure had been growing increasingly more common, and the girl wanted nothing more than to piece it together. With all the different interactions with them, among other things, she was determined to expose them. She had been spreading the word that she was looking for those who had seen them or been attacked, and they were the ones she was waiting for. Hopefully the owls had reached them...

It didn't take Sophie very long to find the Ravenclaw girl in the library. Well, thats a lie, it took her much longer than necessary. Seeing as she wanted to look as professional as ever, it took her fifteen minutes to persuade her owl to fly to the nearest wizarding shop, and buy her a nice notebook and a new quill. Then, on purpose the owl took forever to get the things she needed, and fly back.
Despite her being annoyed at her owl, Sophie gave the owl a treat, then, another thirteen minutes later (she had counted) Sophie had finally made it to the library.
The magnificent shelves that carried hundreds of thousands of millions of books! It was Sophie's absolute dream come true. Even the wizarding library had lots of muggle books, and even from different countries!
Sophie, herself, had took refuge in the Library from anyone trying to hex her, as the Librarian would kick them out, or even hex them in return.
However, this time, Sophie ignored the book, a first, for the first year Gryffindor, and she headed towards a table occupied by a fellow classmate, however, the girl sitting at the table, didn't have a red and gold badge pinned to her chest, nor a red and gold tie, but a blue and silver tie and badge.
As she neared the table, she noticed that the Ravenclaw girl was the only one there, meaning, despite how late Sophie had been (considering the girl considered being an hour early was 'late') she was the first one there.
"Hello. I got your owl, about the masked figure. I am going to help you find and expose them."
There was a hint of justice in her voice, for she had grown up learning about this stuff, for her father was an Auror himself, Sophie had grown up learning about things like this, and she was more than ready to help expose this person.

Amadea had heard the rumors of the masked man, though she wasn't sure who hadn't. Word spread like wildfire at Hogwarts, and many different rumors were running rampant around the school about exactly who and what the masked man was. Many people had been wondering if they could figure anything out about the masked man.
Amadea personally felt as though they should leave the subject alone, considering the masked man was still out there and on the loose. However, she also felt as though she should figure out as much as she could about the masked man for the same reasons. When she received an owl from Cecilia, the nice Ravenclaw she had coincidentally met in the owlery, she felt conflicted. On one hand, she didn't want to risk her life trying to figure out things about a masked killer who was still running around the school causing harm to students in the most peculiar ways. On the other hand, she was a Hufflepuff and was willing to risk her life for her peers and classmates.
That was how Amadea ended up in the library, walking through the stacks of books in search of the group Cecilia had assembled before the masked man found them. She saw a few people gathered at a table. They looked fairly inconspicuous to Amadea, if she was any judge of inconspicuousness, and wouldn't have even known they were the right group unless Amadea hadn't recognized Cecilia. The Ravenclaw had a pad of paper sitting in front of her and she looked agitated. To be fair, Amadea felt agitated as well. In fact, she was sure the whole school felt fairly agitated. After all, there was a killer on the loose and no one, not even the professors from what she could tell, knew what to do about it.
Maybe the answers could be found in the shelves of millions and millions of books the library held. After all, the whole point of the meeting was to learn more. Amadea herself didn't know much about the masked man. She had been fortunate to not have encountered him yet. Even though this was quite fortunate for her state of aliveness, she couldn't help but feel disappointed that she didn't have any information to bring to the table. It was silly thinking, of course, but she wished she knew anything more that could possibly be helpful. Like everyone else, she wanted the masked figure to be gone.
Approaching the small group of people assembled (was it really a group?), she cleared her throat (softly, of course since it was a library) and spoke. "Hi Cecilia," she said with a smile, hoping she wasn't radiating too much of a good mood. They weren't here for a jolly, good time. "I got your owl about tracking down the masked man," she said, realizing too late that it was already obvious she had received the owl. She wouldn't be here if she hadn't gotten it. "Anyway, I think it's a great idea and I am ready to help." Turning to the other girl whom she didn't recognize, she introduced herself. "I'm Amadea. It's nice to meet you all."
She sat down at an open seat across from Cecilia, ready to get to work.

Who was Cecilia Moore? The obvious facts were that she was a Ravenclaw student who seemed to be reporting for The Diadem, which Dorian surmised was the Ravenclaw newspaper from the context in which the letter had been written. And the fact that she had literally mentioned it being the Ravenclaw's newspaper... But that was beside the point. It was her reason for seeking him by such a channel that intrigued him; had him taking time out of his otherwise uneventful day to seek her out for that proposed meeting. Rumors had spread, and from what he had gathered he and Max had not been the only victims. Whoever this masked figure was, they got around fast.
As he trekked the familiar path to the library, he could not help but remember that time he had come here and gotten into trouble for ripping one of the books. An accident through and through, but it still remained a source of shame for him. Not because he had torn the book, but because he hadn't made the girl pay. Too many forces were working against him, the latest being the untimely arrival of the stranger that had accosted them atop the Astronomy tower. Dorian was still pissed about it, a fact that stood with unbridled prominence upon his face. He almost looked ready to kill at the drop of a hat, and if one listened close enough they could hear him mumbling a string of witty MOs of what he would do if he ever caught the stranger.
Before long he made it to the library, taking note that only three others seemed to be there. His entrance was punctuated by the newest arrival before him saying her fill, apparently having been summoned by Cecilia as well. What she said, however, gave Dorian room to interject with "expose him? You want us to expose him? And then what?" Dorian posed the question as a challenge, wondering what such a fool thing as exposing the person would do. "It's obviously one of us," students he meant "playing a sick prank. I won't have it! When I find him he's gonna wish he never messed with me and Max!" His impassioned utterance came from a place of anger and regret. Anger that he had let his guard down in the first place and allowed them to get as close as they did, and regret at the fact that Max had gotten hurt. The gnawing thought stuck to him like a stubborn scab. 'It should have been me!'
He had coaxed Max up to the tower only to, in the end, have the boy sustain injury. None of it had been his intent, but his guilt was like a physical burden that he bore with tenuous acceptance. Regarding the girl that was sitting at one of the tables facing the entrance, he stomped over and banged his hands heavily on the table, eliciting one of those rulebreaking sounds that went against everything a library stood for, his voice getting louder and louder with each word he spoke. "What's our game plan? How do we catch this bastard and make him pay before the teachers left him off easy with something stupid like expulsion?!" Dorian was ready for this... Clearly. He was so wound up that he scarcely registered the presence of the other girl in the room that he had never met before.

Not before long, more people Cecilia had recruited were starting to appear. A Hufflepuff Sophie had never seen before, and a Gryffindor Sophie had seen before. Though she had never spoken to him, the rumors of Dorian Gray had reached almost every Gryffindor ear.
As she listened to the two speak, her own theories were racing in her mind. The masked man. Who was he? Was he planning to strike again? Could the group of only a few first year students track him down, find him, and expose him?
None of the questions Sophie had answers for.
She finally decided to speak up, for she herself hadn't spoken a word since the new arrivals. And, if the group were to find anything, they would need everyone's help.
"He can't be a student. Easily. No student could pull any of that off without anyone seeing it. Its got to be someone older, perhaps a graduate? Perhaps a professor? But definitely someone with a high rank or of high power. Anybody like a student wouldn't have nearly enough experience. Could this perhaps be the upbringing of Voldemort coming back? Could this man be a deatheater? Or Voldemort himself?"
Sophie glanced seriously around the table. Then there was something she almost realized that would get them all, exposed. If anyone ever found out about this, meetings, or if anyone discussed plans outside of the group, and a teacher or a prefect heard? All of them were doomed.
"Before anything else is discussed, we have to find a secret hiding spot, and a secret passcode or something. Nobody, I repeat, Not one person, can find out we're doing this. Never. The teachers might give us expulsion."

It had attacked her and a random ravenclaw girl first. While the girl, Phaedra something that sounded too Greek to pronounce, had been pureblooded, she wasn't a friend of Eris's, and thus, wasn't exactly her problem to rage and worry about. Although the idea of a strange figure bothered the short red head, and the notion that a figure had been able to hurt her, without Eris being able to fight her way out of whatever befell her worried the girl, and found her thinking of ways to attack the figure and rid the school of it. Or maybe just expose it, or learn who is was, in a Scooby Doo type escapade.
Sure, she had been attacked by a simple knock back jinx, but it still worried her. Her worry had been calm, not something she was going to act upon for a while. Then the news had swept through the school that Max been attacked in the presence of another friend (who could of gotten hurt just as quickly), and her whole body had gone taunt with rage, face heating up to a brilliant shade of red. If her resolve to find and bring the figure to justice hadn't been there already, it solidified instantly at the news of the attack on two of her friends.
When the owl had came, stating there was to be a meeting about the figure, Eris had agreed to go in a heart beat. There had been little time to waste, as the small girl had trouble enough walking down the stairs to of the school. The trek to the library was three flights of stairs long, and while Eris had gotten used to long walks through the stairs of Hogwarts, having been at the school for a long while, her feet still strained and her legs ached as she trotted down the stairs, letter from the owl clenched in her hands.
Entering the library, Eris spotted a gathering of students and navigated over to the group, refusing to pay attention to the aching pain in her legs. Dorian was there already, and a pang of fear struck the girl's heart, seeing her friend up and about already, after his ordeal with danger. He could of gotten hurt just as fast as Max did, but luckily he didn't. Maybe, just maybe, he was out for revenge too. His loud voice broke through the silence of the library, and at once, Eris was at his side, ignoring the presence of their host, and the other two girls at the table.
They did not matter. What did matter was the boy in front of her who had almost been attacked so grievously, but had still watched Max be attacked in an unjust series of events, that should never have occured.
"When you find him?" Eris interjected, "You'll be with me if you find that freak. It's not a one man show. He attacked me too, and you and Max are my friends. Nobody gets to attack me, or my friends."Scowling at the rest of the girls, daring them to say otherwises, Eris looked back at Dorian, disapproval ripe on her face.
Letting the other Gryffindor girl talk, Eris frowned. "Voldemort is dead, it wouldn't be him. " The name did not draw a flinch from the girl, although her gut recoiled at the name that had killed so many wizards and witches before Eris's time, from what she had read.
The rest of her claim was just as absurd, and Eris shook her head. "So, it might be a professor or the next 'dark lord. If it's so, what's a secret code going to do? And why would the professors expel us, if anything, they should be talking to each other and us, trying to figure out who in the world is doing this horrible stuff to students."
Shrugging her shoulders, Eris pushed herself up to her (unimpressive) full height and studied the new faces in the room. Sophie something was a Gryffindor in her year, as for Cecilia Moore, she had never seen her or talked to her before the owl was received. The Hufflepuff was a friend of Rhea's, but her name eluded Eris. Hopefully they wouldn't have thoughts that were too different. This meeting was to be about fighting back against the masked figure, and maybe exposing them. Not about pointless bickering.

The Ravenclaw Newspaper loved gossip for whatever reason, and the rumors of a masked figure managed to catch their attention. One of the newer writers was taking on the assignment it seemed and gathering a group to discuss it. Ben knew a few of those who were attacked and felt it would be good for him to join in the discussions. He heard stories of it as well even in his antisocial habits lately. Once he arrived at the Library, a bit later than everyone else it seemed, he recognized quite a few people present. The ex-prefect and current writer spoke up quietly once he approached.
"Sorry I'm late," he said, giving a nod to those he knew. "Is this everyone?"
He felt bad showing up late, but at least it seemed like a good group. Plus they were meeting in one of his favorite places in the school. An endless collection of knowledge surrounded them. Would the answers to solve these rumors be among them? Probably not. It felt good being part of a group though. The Scottish lad had been afraid to make new friends ever since Felicity vanished. Serena, Bloom... they were his only close friends remaining. It was time to branch back out again.
"Are there any patterns from the rumors at all? I've not heard them all, I think." He asked no one in particular after he finished listening to a few comments.

Sophie rolled her emerald eyes. She knew someone was going to question her. Though she didn't know who would, or what it was, she always had an answer for everything.
"Look at it as what happened to the Ministry all those years ago. Harry Potter was trying to make the Ministry believe that Voldemort was back. So, in return, Cornelius Fudge was trying to expel him, now, if you base that off of the present, think what would happen if someone found out. Eight (or more) First years sitting in the open, discussing how to take down the Masked killer."
It didn't take much to get the First Year riled up. After all, she had a knack for making sure she was right. And, if anything, she had to prove herself worthy to a group, seeing as she was born to do things like this, it might make her father proud.
Might.
So what, her father had never actually payed her any attention. So what all he did was criticize and ignore her. So what all she wanted was to make him proud and for once have him love her. So what all she wanted was to have two loving parents who love each other and care for her. So... what?
"Well, if its not Voldemort, and it is a present time dark lord... We still don't know who it is."
She glanced at the first years before her. Her green eyes were tinted with something so rarely seen in her eyes. Justice.
She was never like her father, an Auror. He was all for justice, putting people in Azkaban, whether they were or weren't actually bad. Her father, James Akira Murphy, seemed to be the opposite of everyone Sophie knew. While he was a justice-eating, ambitious, and very cruel man. Sophie's mum Ruby Bella Murphy was the exact opposite. She was very kind and naive, and very loud and cheerful, for she always had a knack for giving the wrong people second chances and the right people one chance.
"But, what if he strikes again? Who, where, and when? There has to be a pattern so we can predict when he strikes again."

"But, what if he strikes again? Who, where, and when? There has to be a pattern so we can predict when he strikes again."
Goodbye lovelies!

Important Investigations
It had been hard to know what to think after getting an owl about the mysterious masked figure who'd attacked him and Dorian. The whole thing was deeply unsettling and to hear that this 'figure' was attacking other people didn't exactly help set Max's mind at ease. When it came to any mystery or puzzle that caught his attention, he sometimes tended to hyper-fixate on it - turn it over and over in his mind to study every facet, even if some of those facets were sharp enough to cut.
This mystery was particularly bad because there'd been the intent to kill him and Dorian behind it, and based on different stories floating around the school the masked person had tried to kill others as well. This person had also attacked Eris, Phaedra, and who knew how many others of his friends. For himself, he might've turned to his parents and left the school altogether, but with people he cared about involved he had to find a different course of action. So he showed up at the library early in the morning to search through history books on something similar, all the while keeping an ear out for the group that he figured would show up to speak to the Ravenclaw's newspaper girl about it.
When the first person entered and started to talk, Max was sitting cross-legged on the floor between two rows of dusty shelves with a myriad of books spread out before him. He shut the book in his hand with a thump of finality as he heard the girl say she was going to try to expose the masked figure. One option, though there'd be more opinions incoming. Another girl entered and spoke, and then Dorian came to say his piece. A prank... Maybe. But the student would have to be incredibly sick and depraved to try something like that. The first girl was too quick to dismiss the theory of the masked figure being a student, and Max narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.
Scooping up the books on the floor and slotting them back into their respective places on the shelf, he tilted his head for better hearing as Eris came in sounding fired up. He understood exactly where she was coming from - if he saw the masked figure again he might be angry enough to kill. She was right about it not being Voldemort either; they'd already learned in Transfiguration that you couldn't bring someone back from the dead, not truly. A professor, though... that was also another somewhat valid option. A student or a professor, had to be one of those since security was too tight to let anyone else in. They had to be the aggressor, at least. He still wasn't convinced it was only one person behind it, not when the attacks were so well coordinated.
When another boy entered and asked if it was everyone, he finally stepped out from his place between the shelves to make his way over to where Cecilia and the rest were. The first Gryffindor girl appeared to be getting riled up about the whole thing too, and Max patiently let her finish before speaking. They needed to work together to solve this, be they pure-bloods or mudbloods. He could put his prejudices aside for the sake of survival, call an internal temporary truce to solve this.
"I've been listening in," he broke in quietly, shooting Dorian and Eris brief, tight smiles in greeting. "And I might have something regarding patterns. Based on our experiences with this masked person, they're casting spells with the intent to kill. But if they really wanted to kill us, wouldn't they use an Unforgivable Curse? It would be easy if they did it that way and they could do a lot of damage before the professors caught them, however they haven't. I've been going through spells and every spell this person has used has historically been taught fifth year or below. That leaves us with two options. A, they're not trying to kill us yet because a death would spark an outcry. Or B, they are trying to kill us but don't have the spells."
He frowned, forcing the fist he hadn't realized was curled to relax at his side. "I don't know about your experiences, but I came pretty bloody close to being thrown off a roof. I'd be more inclined to go with B - this person doesn't have the spells yet. I'm leaning more towards a student. So then, what's their motive? Is it just theirs? So far we've been assuming it's only one person out to get us, but it's impossible to tell since they're wearing a mask. It could be multiple people wearing the mask, or there could be someone behind it."
He worried his bottom lip between his teeth, dropping his eyes to the ground in deep thought. "Also historically," he continued in a voice with a hint of suspicion, "The professors have hidden things from students at Hogwarts. I don't know if anyone's bothered to confront one of them, but I'd be interested to know their reaction to hearing about this masked figure. They might have some knowledge of a student who's been unstable, or some reason that Hogwarts students would be attacked. I don't know. What I do know is this - attempting to go after this person alone would be stupid when they're using spells we don't know how to defend against or use ourselves. That's my take on this situation, anyways."

Important Investigations
More people had arrived than she had expected. Rumours did indeed spread quickly, and she smiled to the three students in greeting, murmuring a small hello. With the other two, it didn't surprise her that they were so angry. The girl must be Eris, and the boy, Dorian. His anger had made her straighten her back in her seat as he slammed his palms down on the table, and her hand stiffly brushed over her notes. Her glare was not of aggression, but of a warning for the two furious students in front of her to quiet down.
Cecilia was utterly pissed, to say the least. She was enraged with the masked figure, who people were apparently going to label as a killer. She didn't especially care for the word, seeing as he very well could be listening in on this, and might one day deserve the term. Her own mind wrestled with the thought that he could be listening in, that he could be so close, yet so far..
Was it good that he knew people were searching for him? Or did that make him even more dangerous? None of them knew what he was truly capable of, but he had already harmed too many students for him to be taken lightly. Her deep green eyes flickered between those assembled, and she couldn't help but smirk a little bit. They all looked far too similar to a classic vigilante justice group, and in the movies and comics she's read, they usually failed, or died. That last thought immediately wiped the smirk on her face, and she hovered between simmering anger and bubbling fear.
As Sophie spoke, Cecilia's brows lowered into a frown, shaking her head slightly. As she finally voiced her thoughts, her words were gruff, perturbed. "There is no.. rhyme or reason to his madness. We don't know who he is, or why he's doin' this. He just seems to be out to harm people. You two were attacked," She gestured to Eris and Dorian with a nod of her head, "An' so was I. Just sitting here makes us all targets, arguing even more so."
Taking in a breath, she pulled up the sleeve of her left arm, revealing a bandaged forearm. Parts of her un-bandaged arm revealed that she had been burned, with lighter burns around her wrist. "We all have a vendetta against him, but it has to be done carefully. I want him exposed just as much as you do, and I'll gladly work with you to do so."
Pulling her sleeve back down, Cecilia nodded with Max's words, mulling it over for a moment before speaking. As she did so, she spread out a blank sheet of paper in front of her, taking hold of a pencil to sketch something out. "We haven't seen his face. I saw nothing identifiable when his spell lit up the room... I saw nothing."
Her eyes hardened, thinking over the events leading up to now. Max was right- the culprit probably didn't know the spells needed to kill any of them, so instead they took advantage of people in precarious situations with what they knew. Two different scenarios of students alone late at night, and another at the top of a tower. "You're right. We shouldn't confront them ourselves, or at least not without plenty of preparation and assistance. The professors, if they don't already know about this person, need to learn of them soon. I don't want any other kids to get hurt like we were. As I explained in the letter to some of ya, I'm investigatin' the rumours around this for the newspaper. And.. well, we all got a bone to pick with the piece of shite."
She shrugged, flashing a wry grin before glancing around them. Anyone could be the masked figure, and so they all received a suspicious eye. Even the ones standing in front of her she was wary around, or at least she was with those who were not victims.
"We need to keep our eyes and ears open. I don't know if there's a solid plan to be made. Here's what I think, though." She'd count on her fingers to herself as she listed her ideas, almost talking to herself as she furiously scribbled down various notes, half legible in her haste.
"We tell a professor we can all trust. We watch others for weird behaviour, since we're around students more than the teachers. We communicate and discuss any findings, if you're all as serious about catching this guy as I am. No vigilantism, as much as it'd be cool to singlehandedly take him down."
Her eyes glinted, and while her words were a bit forceful, they were open for others to change. It's not like they were an impromptu detective club, or anything... Though that'd be really cool, in her opinion. Regardless, her thoughts had been consumed by the mask and the person behind it for the past several days. She couldn't figure out why he was doing it, but she would. She'd make sure of that.
