Hufflepuff v Gryffindor Broom Race Summer Games 2022

George felt quite hopeless as he drifted forward, nearly immobile, until a smack of his head on the cold passageway broke him free of his spell. He could still see ahead in the race, and it was coming down to the wire. Nicholas would hit the finish line soon, but his badgers we're doing as George had instructed, pelting the enemy captain with debris. It was only fair after what happened to Athena.

"Yes!" George said, pumping his fist as he saw Nick was faltering... Only for him to stop on his broom, immobilized again as he watched Nick throw one of the little lions ahead. She was nearly over the line now, and it didn't look like there would be any stopping her.

While Hugh couldn't see what was going on, George's frustrated groan likely alerted him that the lions were doing well. Oh well... a fair match, in either case. George just wished maybe he'd flown a little further...

Marina knew they hadn't won yet, but it certainly felt like it. She was flying faster than ever before. She clung onto her broom. "I'm Flying!" Marina exclaimed.

After Marina had her moment of joy, she turned her attention back to the race. She would still have to watch for any last-minute obstacles.

Damn the vines. Usually they didn't pose as an issue for Xailah- then again she wasn't usually as eager to push through them, like she was now. Her racers, teammates and opponents alike, were growing smaller and smaller by the second. A puppy-like need to join them ahead, had overcome her. Xailah wiggled and wove in desperation, but the tightly knit foliage seemed to stretch on for forever. Its density, and Jacks presence, were the only constants as she tried her best to break through the vine-trap. Well, those and Jacks apparent taste for bloodshed. Out of the corner of her eye, Xailah noticed some movement from Jack as he raised his arm with a new middle prepared for launch.

The dense netting of thorny vines made casting spells a bit of a challenge. The lioness would make a fair cast- summoning a hazy light to her wandtip- but the spell, when launched, diverted from it's intended target. Her arm had caught in a looping vine that hung like a hammock, throwing off her aim. Her spell fizzled by Jack, catching itself in the surrounding partition of thorns instead. The trees and horned creepers the spell came in contact with, fell eerily still. And Jack would remain jinx-less. For the time being.

As a result of the spells failure to land, the neighboring Hufflepuff would be able to launch yet another object forward- a limb Xailah thought, although the specifics weren't all that important. Somehow it would pass through the vines at such a force, it could not be slowed down no matter how many threads of foliage it brushed against. Like the racers, it too faded off into the distance. Goodness gracious. What the hell was Hufflepuff feeding their team?

Annoyance was building on the boy's shoulder. He could feel victory close, yet there was no reprieve from the race. Why couldn't he create an opportunity to win the damn race? It was killing him that he couldn't do much of anything besides winging rocks all around. He was hitting folks, but it just wasn't gratifying.

Broom Racing Moderation
Round 5

Matches burn after the other, pages turn and stick to each other, wages earned and lessons learned but this was the final round of broom racing. Previously on broom racing round four, Nicholas was gone and dead and not buried due to the injuries he had and the rock that Jack thrown at him right after he yeeted his fellow racer, Marina Oriel which made her be on the lead, smelling the scent of victory which probably smelt like her own sweat. Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago. Everyone was on his side then they left him alone. But it wasn’t their fault because apparently, Hugh stayed in unit one for so long by choice, successfully throwing improvised projectiles at the opposing team on multiple occasions. Hopefully his amazing throws would be celebrated and not only tolerated. But still, maybe one or two people on the bleachers were thinking ‘what on earth is he doing? This is broom racing, not dodgeball!’. And finally, the thing that maybe some people had waited for their entire life came. He flew at full speed with the blindfold still covering his vision. What was the reason behind that? We will never know. To flex his ability? To show people that he could do just as great as those who properly used their eyeballs? Let’s prove it with the rolls.

Hugh passed through the challenges with the kind of flawless anyone wish they could be. On his way, he would see the presence of George Henry who was once trying to hit him with an illegal spell but backfired miserably. The badger captain and the tall gryffindor were about to meet the particularly easy passageway.

On George's way to the gate at the end of the race, he could see his unconscious teammate, Athena, which unfortunately stopped her extraordinary dance. He couldn’t see the performance from up close. Perhaps he should be more focused on the next challenge in front of him. The thorns. They could jump out like the ghost of his past, lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles, ready to touch his delicate skin with their sharp stuff.

Moving on to the cool Gryffindor, Xailah Alptraum. Looking at the condition of the sad, confused, and lonely vines, there was no doubt that Xailah would fly through it without getting herself tangled. In fact, those vines were not as intimidating as they used to be.

Vines and thorns, checked. Trees, just a little injury. Another vines, checked. What must it be like to be that awesome in racing, she almost aced every challenge, excluding the trees, of course. But it was overall pretty good. She should be proud of herself because she was now out of the woods and almost in the clear.

The fourth position was Simon Kincaid, he too decided to fly just like most racers. In the mid race, he’d see the co-captain of the lion team, Della, approaching the same challenge as he was. The wind that could either make your hair glorious or a mess.

Haters would call it fake, but both Simon and Della didn’t think that the wind was a bother. In fact, it was not hard at all. It was as easy as blinking. Maybe both of them were indeed stronger than expected. Whilst Simon stopped in this unit, Della would continue to zooooom and could see the presence of Serena Towers not far in front of her.

Muscles? Where? Didn’t see them. What happened to both of them? Did their muscles suddenly disappear into thin air? After giving so many compliments for Della and Serena (in the last mod post), somehow they got cursed and weren’t able to get through the wind. The sky was raining Della and Serena, because they both fell to the ground. The only one left with no more challenges was Marina.

In silent screams, in wildest dreams, the Hufflepuffs probably had never dreamt of this. They were flying but they never got far, they shouldn’t pretend it was a mystery. It was now too late for the badgers and their white horses to get to the finish line. But they could try and render the winner unconscious, just like what Jack would do next.
