Navigating the crowd of people was surely an overwhelming experience, but as always Kiwi was there making everything a heck of a lot easier. The small warmth the little rodent gave, buried under Monica's hair brought such safety to her. It also helped having a small group of friends with her as well. Getting the chance to play the game just before coming to the BBQ was a fantastic time, laughs were shared, and at least in Monica's opinion, bonds were made.
Sitting down with her venturous choice of food, Beatrice quickly jumped in with a question, getting conversation going at the table.
Relieved to hear some common(muggle) talk for a little bit, Monica always found it quite challenging to know what to say or talk about, never knowing if things she brought up was foreign to other students or not.
Eliza being the first to answer talked about a peppermint toad..."Do you mean mint chip?" Monica asked her, "That one is my favourite too! I love any and all mint chocolate items!" Monica took a bite of her meal... strange, not bad....per-say, but certainly different than anything she had eaten before. Monica was no wimp though when it came to food, her brothers made sure of that. All of those competitions to eat the weirdest dish at restaurants, or creating Frankenstein like creations in the kitchen to see who would cave and spit out gross food. At this point in Monica's life, she could say she could truly eat anything.
She took a second bite, better than the first, perhaps it was just the strangeness of it that her body had to accept to fully enjoy it?
As conversation continued on, Kiwi made her way down from Monica's shoulder and onto the table. Her nose sniffing about the air, taking in the smells of the food. "Now now, this isn't for you, you ate before coming here." Monica warned her little friend. Kiwi cleaned her face with her paws, her eyes big balls of pearls as she gazed back at Monica, "No that's not going to work on me." She stroked Kiwi's head, as Kiwi returned the favour with small licks, Monica signed, "Alright..." She pulled out of her pocket a small carrot she kept as a treat. Kiwi took it and scurried down the table aways, harbouring her treasure, and consuming it.
When she was finished, she couldn't help but continue her searching around. Coming up to Eliza as she ate her meal, Monica looked over, "Let me know if she is bothering you Eliza, Kiwi is always after food, and doesn't have the best manors." Kiwi looked up to the blonde girl, standing on her hind legs, and sniffing the air in front of her.

After making a good start into her meal, and listening to others give their favourite Ice-cream flavours, Monica leaned forward in her seat, to be able to see Beatrice better, "What about yourself? What is Beatrice's favourite Ice-cream Flavour?"

When Theo had come over to the group on the bench, he had only been happy to see a familiar face he had actually missed quite a bit during the last months in Ilvermorny. But the reaction was certainly not what he expected. When he greeted the group, the Durmstrang girl shot up from the bench, making the food roll around on her plate so rapidly, Theo's first reflex was to reach out and keep the food from rolling off her plate.

The young Thunderbird couldn't stop himself from chuckling a little when she sat back down, seemingly embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.", he apologized to Greta before sitting down as well. "Nice to meet you!", he told the two others, who seemed to be a little younger than Greta and him, "So are you from Hogwarts?"

He broke a piece off of a sausage and put it into his mouth and almost sighed with delight. The long journey had really made him hungry. "Oh!" He quickly chewed and swallowed when Greta asked him if he was going to play Quidditch. "Yes! I am a beater now. And will you be in a duel again?"

He smiled when he thought of the blue ribbon that was still tied around his broom. To be honest, Theo had been a little unsure what was expected of him, if the ribbon was a gift or if he was supposed to give it back, but it had made him rather happy every time that he looked at it.
So sorry for taking so long!

Embarrassment had only compounded when Greta had returned to her seat. The other two had turned their heads towards her in turn, each offering her words that didn't quite settle with significant comprehension. Cheeks would flare all over again with their rosy hue. This time, however, it would have nothing to do with the heat of the spice, and everything to do with her embarrassment. Without Allu or one of the others to interpret for her, she could only offer a small smile and nod. Hoping against hope that it would be an appropriate reaction to whatever it was that they had said.

Not that it had mattered long. Theo's arrival and her subsequent jolt from her seat had offered exactly the reprieve needed to leave that little issue behind. And if worst came to worst, she would be able to express her uncertainty and request clarification from him. Her relief was almost palpable as she sat back down, unable to contain the little grin that had adorned her lips as he settled himself nearby. A bite of potato would slip between her teeth as she watched the brief interaction between he and her other picnicking companions until she piped up about quidditch.

"Beatah?" She tilted her head, eyes dipping from Theo's face to his form.

When he had said he was going to be playing quidditch, she had jumped to the conclusion that he would be a chaser on the team. Perhaps a keeper. For some reason, it hadn't occurred to her that he would be wielding a bat. Then again, she supposed she had never really paid much attention to his build before. Even now, peering at him through a new lens, she couldn't quite place him as a beater. Although neither could she really slot him firmly into any of the other positions either. Slim and tall (standing a solid half foot taller than she), he had an athletically versatile build. Given the way beaters tended to be targeted fairly early in games, however, she couldn't help but worry. And it showed in the creasing of her brows and the crimp of her lips.

"I am to need watch your game," she tried to sound reassuring and supportive, lifting her gaze back up to meet his. Admittedly, there were a lot of mixed feelings about it. It was never fun to watch friends be knocked from their brooms. That said, the rush of adrenaline was something she could appreciate and she certainly didn't want to rain on his parade. With a smile, she would slip into German and add, "Maybe the ribbon will give you better luck in quidditch than it did in racing.."

Not to be rude, however, she would leave it at that, and try to revert back to English as she addressed the rest. "You are.. ehm.. excite for camp games?" she wondered sheepishly glancing to the others. "I.. ehm.. make.." She would mime signing with an invisible quill. "..name on all games. Oh.. not all games.. Not wolf game."

"And yes," she nodded with a smile. "I duel this camp. I do.. ehm... have a sad... ehm... I am sad since... not to play Quidditch..." Starting and stopping several times, Greta just couldn't quite find the words to express what she was trying to say. So once again, she would slip into German to ask, "How do you say, 'I miss playing Quidditch? It makes me happy to see my friends in the air, but I always wish I could be flying with them instead of being in the stands'?"

Ohoh- the girl surely got some spice on her. She curved her lips upward as she take a sip of her drink, and fold her arm. This is a pretty normal response to her usual endearment. Sigh- It is hard to greet people these days.

"You sure have some spice on you, Barlowe."

"But, relax, I wasn't here to start a fight with you or anything." She said when she noticed the birdie had a sterner tone when she started to talk to Pea. Honestly, she really does have the talent of angering people- she thought her greetings to Adelaide were surely the friendliest she has ever been. Guess not. Pea shrugs and sighs again.

"You really don't remember me, how odd. You might really need to get your eyesight checked. But... never mind that." Pea flipped her hair as she look at the food that the Ravenclaw girl carries. Sausage and Mash with a glass of Pumpkin Juice. Quite boring she might say. But it is the least nausea-inducing out of all of the food on the table. She looks at the house elf and orders a plate of mashed potatoes without the sausage.

"Well- I was just wondering if I can join you and your.... friends?" She looks over the table where sitting is another Hogwarts student that looks like the crowd that Adelaide came with. There are several familiar faces there too, even fellow snakes of hers. "They desperately need someone to lighten the mood." She continues again with her smugness. Lightening the mood- she snickers at the word as she is the last person that would lighten up someone's mood. Chaos and conflict are what she usually brings to the table.

Bubba sat there quietly, picking away at his pollo asado as Theo and Greta talked. He thought it would be quite rude to interrupt them and plus when he was meeting new people he liked to listen at first and learn a bit about them. Still, he had at least gleaned that the new boy, Theo, played quidditch and was a beater. Bubba enjoyed quidditch to watch but he never really considered playing it. Stick and ball (and he supposed in this case broom) sports were fun for him to watch but he just had very little interest in playing them. He still respected the skill it took to play and he'd be keen to see how Theo stacked up.

He was also interested to learn that Greta was evidently a duelist. That was another thing that was thrilling to watch and he just wasn't interested in doing. Bubba realized he was probably smart enough that he'd be reasonable at it if he wanted to sign up for the Ravenclaw team. Bubba didn't like to fight, he preferred to settle things with words. He supposed he was a bit of an adrenaline junkie because he got his kicks from speed. The thought reminded him how much he hoped that a spot would open up on the Ravenclaw broom racing team soon.

As they talked more and more Bubba got an odd feeling in his stomach that was completely new to him. He didn't know why but the more Greta and Theo talked the less Bubba found himself liking Theo. There was just something about him and he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was. Maybe it was his stupid, perfectly kept hair. It also could've been the way his stupid teeth seemed to sparkle when he smiled. Even still, it could've just been his stupid accent which was suddenly quite annoying. Bubba hoped none of this showed on his face and quickly moved to deflect by latching on to anything that was said.

"Yeah, Hogwarts," Bubba replied to Theo's question, "Soon to be second year. And it looks like we've got a triple threat of the wizarding sports here, quidditch," he pointed to Theo, "dueling," he pointed to Greta, and "broom racing," he said semi-pointing to himself. "Well wannabe broom racer at this point, I'm on the waitlist for my house team." He shrugged, "Still plenty of time to get on, how long have you been playing quidditch?"

Some time had passed, Monica's plate of.... whatever her dish was, empty. She neither loved nor despised the meal, but the company more than made up for it. Conversations built back and forth, and considering this was only the first day of camp, it was shaping itself to be a pretty solid month.
Laughter was shared throughout the meal, people coming and going at the table, Monica could feel herself grow more and more comfortable. She loved having a group like this, just talking, cracking jokes, and swapping stories.
In no moment particular, Monica glanced over to see if her Kiwi was still behaving, not wanting to stare however, she just took note that Kiwi was still with Eliza and that was good enough, it was nice that even her pet was making good friends. But than, a feeling... Monica couldn't shake it, like something was wrong, or rather going to be. What was it? She looked around the grounds, and could see no cause for bringing a chill to her spine. Why did she feel this way? And only when......!
She looked back at her rat, there was a look in her eye, a thing that grasped Monica's attention, without her fully realizing it, but when she turned her head, expecting to see Kiwi with Eliza she was met with an empty space where the rat should have been. And what is more crumbs from Eliza's plate that trailed off the table. Monica looked up the table further just in time to see a small rat tale vanish.
No time to ask what had happened, Kiwi was off to the races. Most-likely with a piece of stolen food no doubt.
Monica sprung from her seat, not even excusing herself from the table, and darted in the last known location of her little friend.... More like little gremlin.
Pushing her way through the crowds, Monica couldn't help but have Déjà vu from the first day adopting Kiwi, "What is with this rat? Is running away in crowed areas a sport for her?"
Monica serged past a boy, knocking his tray over, "Sorry" She called back, but no time to stop, she could still see her small friend just meters ahead of her, she had to keep going! There were so many other pets here, owls, cats, who knows what would join in the chase. Monica just had to reach Kiwi before something else did!
"Look out! My RAT!" She shouted into the crowd, hoping someone would either catch Kiwi, or just avoid stepping on her. Though nimble Kiwi was, her luck would only go so far with this many people.

xxxMaggie hadn't really been planning on attending the BBQ during summer camp. Hence why she wasn't. Of course, things had a funky way of working out.

She'd been picking her way through the throngs of people at the BBQ, going to grab herself a plate, Benvolio trailing close behind like the well-trained sweetheart he was, when something darted between her feet and out the other side. It was like a bullet, quick and furry, but Maggie made no mistake. The moment her cat darted off after, Maggie could tell that it was a rat. Poor thing, didn't stand a chance. Maggie had half a mind to just let him go and get some supper until a girl ran after, crying out for her rat.

It looked like this was going to be more complicated than initially anticipated, huh?

Benvolio sailed after the rat, paws churning the grass beneath him as he went, tail held aloft. He certainly seemed hell-bent on becoming a little rat catcher and making a quick meal out of this girl's pet. Not if Maggie could help it.

As Benvolio drew closer, Maggie ran faster. They were a few yards away from the BBQ when she managed to catch up. The cat's jaws very nearly closed in on the rat's tail, but Maggie was smarter than that. Sorta. She dove, sliding over the dewy grass, and closed her hands around the rat. The squirming bundle was drawn into her chest, and Maggie looked up at Monica with a lopsided smile. Her shirt would surely be stained with green after this encounter. "Sorry about that. He's just hungry," hopefully, this girl wouldn't completely hate Maggie because of her dumb cat's stupid appetite. "Here. Poor little guy, must be scared out of your mind."

Those hands pushed up, offering the rat to Monica as an olive branch. "I'm Maggie. You... were at June's party, right?"

"Kiwi!" Monica cried after her escape artist, carrying the stolen morsels of food. Honestly what a way to start the first day at camp! As she was drawing closer however, out of nowhere, a larger form of fur passed in front of Monica's path.... what on earth was that. Her pace slowed as she tried to figure out...."That's a cat!"

Monica speed up her pace, moving her legs as fast as they could. This was worst case scenario, at this point was kiwi trying to get itself stepped on or eaten? Why didn't she know to stay put? Monica shoved her way through the crowd, loosing ground rapidly. Her mind start drifting, "Perhaps rats are not for me.... maybe I try an owl next?"

Then out from the sea of students, a girl ran past Monica, catching up within no time to the Kiwi, Monica watched her as she slipped right through the crowd, then.... She fell?

Monica ran up to see the girl laying on the ground... wait she was holding..."Kiwi!!!" Monica couldn't help the crackle in her voice from shinning through, but she was truly relieved to find her small friend unharmed. Monica gazed upon the face of her, and Kiwi's, hero. The beautiful girl stood up, her hair ruffled from the fall, but otherwise curly and stunning. Monica had seen this girl before, she rarely forgets faces... unless, like in this current moment, she does.

As the girl stood up, cupping Kiwi tight into her chest, Monica could see the sacrifice she made in order to save Kiwi's tiny soul. The girl's shirt was streaked with a fine layer of green from the dive she just took. "I know I have seen her around Hogwarts...She is... Slytherin?" It was right on the tip of her tongue, why on earth couldn't she just pin point the name to the face?
"OH Maggie!" That was it! June Selwyn's friend. June, the girl that perplexed Monica. "Wonder if Maggie is the same way?"
"Thank you so much! Don't apologize, I mean hunger is what got her into this sort of trouble." Looking down at Kiwi, the little gremlin was still clutching the food in her paws, now munching away in Maggie's hands.
Monica gratefully took Kiwi back as Maggie passed her over, "I think she will live... at least she is going to have to learn not to just run away in random public places in order to live!" She mostly said to Kiwi, who didn't seem to care that Monica was referring to her, she was still munching away at food. Monica looked back at Maggie, "unfortunately this is the second occurrence of her 'daring escapes'. I don't know what I am doing wrong... or if I just have a loose cannon of a rat on my hands."
Maggie formally introduced herself, and Monica suddenly recalled the big birthday party! "Oh yes! June's birthday bash! I was there." Monica remembered that glorious day, the surprise of being invited, and the surprise of engaging in a water war to end all water wars. "What a monumental day! One that I am sure will go down in Hogwarts history... At least I think it should. Though, it was hardly any time to make any sort of proper acquaintance," Monica held out her hand to Maggie, "I'm Monica.....er....Evans, I know that is normal to introduce last names, I am still getting used to that." Kiwi had now finished her stolen meal, and scurried up to Monica's hood, tickling Monica's neck slightly, though it had become a normal feeling that didn't bother Monica a great deal anymore, "This little gremlin is Kiwi... So is this cat yours? Or do you just make a habit of saving all the helpless, runaway rats you come across?"

Plate filled with food in her right hand and something to drink in her other, Elizaveta was ready to leave the tables with food behind her and already started to walk away. When an unknown girl walked over to her and greeted her, the blond turned around with a questioning look. Why was this girl talking to her, did they know each other?

Luckily, the girl with long, chestnut brown hair immediately explained why she had approached Eliza and stopped the Russian girl from overthinking the situation. Her blue eyes quickly scanned the bracelet which rested in the other student's hand, before checking her wrist in surprise. She stared at her empty wrist trying to piece together how her bracelet had ended up in the hands of the stranger. "Yes, it is!" she said startled. "How do you have it?" she wondered out loud, her voice carrying a slight Russian accent as she spoke. Had the other stolen it? No, if she had stolen it she wouldn't have returned it.

As both her hands were already filled, she couldn't take the bracelet from the other girl and just stood there awkwardly as she tried to come up with a solution. Maybe she could put the plate down so she was able to place the bracelet in her bag? There was no table nearby to put her food on so she relied on the kindness of the other students to take the plate from her. "Can you hold my plate, please? Then I put the bracelet in my bag," she proposed. If the other would be so kind to help her out, Eliza would gently hand the food over and take the golden bracelet from the other's hand.

"Thank you," she said with a little smile. The girl could have just taken the golden bracelet for herself but instead, she had returned it to the owner. "Do you want to sit with me?" the blond offered. It seemed like a good way to thank the other girl for her kindness and Eliza was sure her tent mates wouldn't mind having somebody else join their table. "My name is Elizaveta Mikhailov but you can call me Elizabeth or Eliza," she quickly introduced herself to the other.

After the Russian girl had shared her favorite ice cream taste, Monica asked if she had meant something else instead of peppermint toad. "No?" she replied hesitantly, "I mean the Peppermint Toad flavored one, like the candy?" She never liked to correct people and tended to avoid it if possible but she didn't want the others to think she had forgotten the name of her favorite ice cream. Slightly embarrassed, she shifted uncomfortably on her seat as Monica continued to talk.

At the sight of the little rat coming her way, a smile of pure joy appeared on Eliza's face. Monica told her that she should say it if the rat was bothering her, but the blond couldn't even imagine being annoyed at such an adorable creature. When Kiwi stood still and sniffed the air, Elizaveta leaned toward the pet to get a better look. "Hello, aren't you a cutie? Do you want some of my food?" she asked the rat in Russian.

It didn't take long before she gave the rat some of her vegetables and became best buddies with the little one, at least she believed they were best friends now. A big chunk of her attention went to the little rat, as she had always found it easier to interact with animals than people, but Eliza would join the conversation sometimes and even ask some questions.

"From which school are you?" Eliza would ask as she turned her attention to Beatrice, Adelaide, and Esmeray. In the few seconds she had turned her attention away from Kiwi, the rat had stolen some food off her plate and ran off. However, the blond only noticed that the creature had disappeared when Monica suddenly ran off, probably to catch her pet. Knowing how rude it was to leave mid-conversation, Eliza stayed seated and hoped Monica would be able to catch Kiwi on her own.

She quirked her eyebrow, smirking slightly as Pea commented about the 'spice' she had in her. If the spice Pea was referring to meant not being in the mood to deal with people like her, then she supposed she did have some spice in her. The white-haired girl apparently wasn't here to start a fight with Adelaide, which made Adelaide frown in part confusion and part annoyance. Was this girl not the one to come over to Adelaide, when all Adelaide wanted to do was go and eat her meal in peace? Pea had definitely seemed quite hostile whenever she had came over.

"So, you're just so obsessed with me that you couldn't resist coming over?" She quipped, "I can't blame you; a lot of people are obsessed with me." If Pea wanted to come over and act all self-absorbed and conceited towards Adelaide, claiming that the Ravenclaw should know who she is when Adelaide's certain she's never even seen this girl before, Adelaide wasn't above acting self-absorbed too. She had to admit, she was a little arrogant too and thought herself better than everyone, but that didn't mean she went around flaunting it to unsuspecting victims. Especially if said unsuspecting victim has a plate of food in her hand, clearly hungry and ready to eat.

"No," Adelaide snapped, her anger increasing. It appears she can't even go to a BBQ in peace anymore, "I do not remember you, nor do I care enough to want to remember you after this encounter. You are so very insignificant in the grand scheme of my life. I don't care about you." She hissed, and as Pea turned away to order herself some food, Adelaide knew it was her time to escape. "Listen, I don't know why you came over to me, but I don't really want to waste anymore time on you. So, goodbye, adios, ciao, see ya."

Pea had already started talking again, but Adelaide tuned her out, turning on her heel so abruptly, she wouldn't have been surprised if her hair had managed to smack Pea in the face with the force of her turn. She hoped it had. Adelaide walked away, finding an empty table so she could quickly finish her meal. She found she wasn't that keen on staying any longer, wanting to go off to find a secret hiding spot where she could be alone for a while and not need to deal with people. The Ravenclaw finishes her food as quickly as humanly possible before getting up and walking off, intending on finding a big tree or something she could sit and rest under for the foreseeable future. Merlin, sometimes she hates people.
