Facing the Headmaster, Felix listened to each word he had to say, taking a mental note of anything that was deemed important or useful to her. While it was such a strange thing to do, words can often lead to important actions or decisions later on. Hearing a soft growl, Felix bit the inside of her cheek, trying her best to not laugh and bring attention to herself, which wouldn't be the best thing to do in this situation. Looking to the table, Felix smiled a little when the food all appeared, her smile widening as she barely caught the emotions in Jane's eyes. Felix was use to this, but for the place she was in, it was completely magical. Felix's family had many house elves, all who Felix knew on a personal level, so that began to clock-work of wanting to get the elves of Hogwarts - which did pose a tough way - but Felix held that as a secret goal. Beginning to plate her food, Felix looked over to Jane, seeing her eating quite hungrily. Chuckling a little, Felix gave a small wink, making sure to spill no food as she picked what she wanted to eat.

"All good. I'm not judging. If you were to see me with sweets, I can say I am not acting like a lady." Felix replied, smiling widely before grabbing her fork, beginning to eat her food as she spared a glance around the hall. "Quite amazing isn't it? While I've been around magic all my life, I still enjoy the small reveals of magic in mundane tasks."

"It's so cool," Jane answered honestly, gazing up at the candles that floated above the Great Hall. "With all the magic I've seen, I may as well be a muggle-born," she admitted. "Not that that's a bad thing," she added on as an afterthought.

Still quite famished, Jane reached over and began scooping other food on her plate to accompany the partially eaten turkey leg. All the food was absolutely delicious, and that was something she could grow accustomed to. Her mother was a great cook, but she came home late most nights and didn't have time to make anything, so Jane's family got used to eating frozen dinners and fast food. Not that Jane was complaining, she didn't mind that food at all. But she had to admit, it was nice to have a meal that felt home-cooked.

"So," Jane said in between mouthfuls, wanting to continue their conversation. "Did you bring a pet with you?"

Jane hadn't got the chance to bring one, something that really bummed her out, though she hoped she'd still get the change to head to Diagon Alley soon and purchase a pet there. She knew it was late, but she could still hope.

After thinking for a minute, she hoped she wasn't coming off as pushy. Maybe Felix didn't want to talk about animals, maybe she didn't want Jane to meet her pet, maybe she didn't have one at all and was mad at Jane for bringing it up.

"I'm sorry," she apologized after a moment, gulping down her food. "I didn't mean to talk about creatures so much. I know I can talk too much sometimes."

Felix looked up at the candles as well, humming in thought as she ate some food off her plate. Felix spared a glance to Jane when she mentioned muggle-born, but she decided to not question anything. Status didn't mean much to Felix, all that mattered was your choices, that's what defined you.

Hearing Jane, Felix turned, thinking a little. She did bring a pet, who resided on her bed all the time, a cat. While Felix was new to pets, she knew her cat, snow, would be well behaved. Picking up on her tone, Felix had a thought that Jane didn't have an animal, maybe Felix could help out somehow. She would love to help Jane as best as she could, all from Jane sitting next to her friend.

"It's alright, no need to be sorry. I am just a listener, even when I am shown as quiet." Felix commented, waving her hand as she took a took a sip from her drink. Felix was rarely affected by things, but if Jane wanted to talk her ear off, she could do it as she wishes. As Felix had really nothing to talk about.

"I have a cat, snow. She is a little fluffy and is a white color with blue eyes. She quite likes cuddles, and adores my bed and underneath the sheets. I've had her for a while, with special permission, I was able to bring my own cat instead of buying another one. If you'd like, after dinner, would go co and see her." Felix offered, eating some more of her food after talking for a little. From across a few tables, Felix caught a Slytherin's gaze, glaring slightly before looking back to Jane. Felix shouldn't worry about other's opinion.

"I have a feeling you didn't bring a pet? Did you not have time?" Felix asked, a little curious. She would like to know Jane a little better, even if it meant talking about animals and creatures all dinner.

Jane had to purposefully temper her excitement when Felix said that she had brought a pet with her. Taking a sip of water from her golden cup, she looked at her new friend as she continued. Her mood dampened a bit at the question about why she doesn't have one.

Sighing, Jane decided to be honest. Felix had trusted her with some huge stuff earlier, so the least she could do was tell her a small bit about her life.

"I was going to bring my cat from home too, an orange tabby named Arnold." A bit sad, Jane looked down into her food. "But he died about two weeks before coming to school. It just didn't feel right to get a new cat then, but now..."

Jane looked up at Felix, feeling just a bit sorry for herself.

"Now I really wish I had brought one with me for company."

Pushing some of her food with her fork, she added on, "I don't think they'll let me get one now. I waited too long."

She had become pretty glum talking about this, and she almost wished she hadn't brought it up. She still missed Arnold terribly, but she was just so desperate to learn of any other animals she could befriend that were at Hogwarts.

"Sorry," she said again. Over apologizing was a habit that Jane had yet to break. "I would like to meet your cat though!"

Felix felt a little bad when she asked, knowing it was a sensitive subject. But, deep down, she felt a little happy that they could trust each other, which was a start for Felix. Overall, Felix did not mean to upset Jane, but Felix sometimes had a tendency to ask questions without realizing the situation at hand. Seeing Jane push around her food, Felix just felt a little worse.

Felix was silent, she really was insure on what to say or do. She wasn't the best when it came to comforting other people, but Felix was going to make an effort for Jane. A cat, while it may be too late, Felix was sure Jane could ask a few questions, or even teachers. If not, Felix would leave an option open for Jane to come play or even have Snow whenever she liked.

Hearing Jane apologize, Felix just smiled a little, knowing it must be an automatic habit for the other. Felix was trying to think of how to make her friend happy again, as Felix felt that she caused her to be upset in the first place. "Well, there is no harm in asking Jane, I'm sure you could give some reasoning." Felix commented at first, reaching out to pat the other's shoulder. Felix has never really lost anything she's loved, but she has a small understanding of what it is like.

"If it makes anything count, Snow does love cuddles." Felix commented, giving a warm smile returning to eat her food before it went cold. It was clear she was a little awkward when it came to comforting others, but Felix was going to try and cheer Jane up a little more.

"I heard dessert is quite nice here. There are these tarts that sound nice." Felix commented, giving a smile before picking up a turkey leg, eating it with her hands rather than her utensils. "I think you and snow will get along. As long as you don't stain her coat that is." Felix commented, chuckling at a memory of her accidentally staining her cat's fur.

Jane chuckled a bit at Felix's comment, realizing there must be a funny story there. It wasn't hard to tell that her new friend wasn't used to comforting others, but Jane truly appreciated the effort. It's the thought that counts, and Felix's intentions are clearly pure.

Picking up a tart Felix had mentioned was quite tasty, Jane faced her friend. "Thanks so much for letting me spend time with Snow! That really means a lot."

Jane tasted the treat and realized, just like all the other food here, it was absolutely delicious. She was beginning to wonder if she would ever grow accustomed to frozen dinners again.

What really stuck out to Jane was that Felix mentioned it wouldn't hurt to ask. That may be true, though Jane doubted she had the courage to ask a professor if she could go to Diagon Alley for a day. She didn't think that was something that was normally allowed. Maybe if Felix went with her she'd be a little more brave? Well, just as she said, it couldn't hurt to ask.

"Um," Jane started nervously, afraid of her answer. "If I was to ask somebody, do you think you could go with me? I just get scared going by myself, and I know that sounds kind of stupid, but I think I could do it if you would go with me."

Pausing, Jane realized she had talked too much... again. "Sorry."

Felix smiled for a little, before picking up a few desserts herself, putting them on her plate for safe keeping and three in a napkin before hiding it in her robe. Snow liked treats and so did Felix at 3 in the morning, so there was no harm in hiding some food.

"Oh no worries, Snow loves visitors. It'll mean one more person to cuddle with when she gets bored." Felix commented, waving her hand a little as she began to eat one of the tarts she picked up, humming at the delicious taste. While her house elves were amazing, there was something with the food at Hogwarts that were simply delicious beyond any end. At the thought, Felix paused, wondering how the elves were going without her. While her parents were kind, she sometimes heard that the Elves wished they were treated a little better. Felix would have to send an owl to make sure they were going alright.

Hearing Jane talk, Felix turned her gaze again, hoping she didn't come off as rude. "I'll be glad to come with you. No need to be sorry or afraid to ask. It's what friends are for, right? They stick by each other and are never worried about anything." Felix commented, giving a wide smile before wiping some of the dessert off of her lips with her napkin. "Again, no need to apologize to me, I'm not as stuck up as my parents, so there is no worries." Felix commented, smiling widely as she looked around with a hum.

It felt really good to have a friend here, Jane realized, and Felix was just that. Anybody who had decided to shun her just for being different was missing out. She was kind and willing to help her friends. It would probably be worth it to mention Felix's mistreatment by the other house members to a prefect. She would need more than Jane for company in her house.

"Thanks," she responded, truly grateful for Felix's thoughtfulness. "You're the best."

Jane finished the rest of her food fairly quickly, the turkey leg all but disappearing due to her hunger along with everything else on her plate. Watching her friend stow a few tarts into her rope, Jane did the same thing, tucking them in the pocket opposite her reading glasses. It wouldn't hurt to have a midnight snack.

Looking around, Jane noticed that several of the seats were clearing out as supper was coming to an end. Jane didn't really want it to end. Felix was her first real friend in her house, and she wanted to get to know her better. And she had even agreed to go with her when she asked about going to Diagon Alley. Although, Jane realized that probably wasn't going to happen tonight.

"Hey, Felix," Jane spoke up, a question on her mind. "When we head back, could I see Snow before going to bed?" She quickly added on, "If not, I understand."

Felix blushed a little, looking to the side with a small smile. "I wouldn't say I am the best, but I do appreciate that." Felix commented, deciding to focus on eating the food that was on her plate. Soon enough, students started filing out, which was a little nicer since the noise was going down, but made Felix a little sad. Felix knew Jane was not in the room she was sharing, so she wouldn't be able to keep talking after curfew. But it wasn't the end of the world, Felix still had a while to talk to Jane before everyone was going to go to bed.

Hearing her name, Felix turned to Jane, her brow quirked as she tilted her head. Hearing Jane wanting to be with snow, Felix smiled widely, chuckling a little as she nodded her head. "Of course you can see Snow. I haven't given her much attention today so she may be a little mad." Felix commented, rubbing the back of her neck as she remembered she has not seen Snow all day. Her cat was going to be mad for sure.

"Thanks!" Jane responded, reaching for her cup again to take another swig of water. She was sad that her and Felix didn't get to share a bedroom, but they were in the same house, so they would still see each other pretty often. At least she wasn't in another house. That would have sucked.

Her plate cleared, Jane wondered if it was about time to head back to the Common Room, or as she liked to call it, "Hufflepuff Headquarters." There wasn't anything else to be had in the Great Hall, and Jane wanted to get in little bit of reading for class before she went to sleep. "Hogwarts, A History" wasn't a required reading before her first class, but it would probably be helpful to get a head start.

"I don't think I'll be able to stay too long though," she commented sadly. "After I visit you and Snow, I would like to get some studying done for tomorrow. I haven't done much."

Jane sighed, looking down at the empty, now shining golden plate. Her hunger was sated, but she wished she had more time in the Great Hall.

"So," she started, standing from her seat and brushing off her robe. Jane reached for the book that was sitting next to her and held it on her hip. "Are you ready to head back to Hufflepuff Headquarters?"
