Whoa! This race was getting serious! Sure the bundimun acid burns were painful, but Colin soon got used to the nagging pain. He looked ahead. It seemed he'd caught up a bit!

Scarlet had fallen behind but Vale and Wyatt were nearby. He saw that Clair was a little ways ahead. She was persevering, and just knowing that she was okay somehow gave Colin courage. "Owoooooooo!" he cried. He was ready to tackle the next challenge!

MODERATION ROUND 3

An odd malaise seemed to take a hold of some of the Slytherin racers. Colin, Vale and Scarlet, for whatever reason, found themselves not moving forward. The race continued around them, and it seemed their momentary pause allowed for Ari to make his way back into contention. The Ravenclaw co-captain pushed forward, although he did find himself slightly behind the dangers of the thorns and the vines. The thorns would prove to be little match for those racers ahead of him, Bloom and Wyatt, for they darted through with experience and grit.

The vines ahead would prove to be the true trial. Percival took the challenge once again, after having been cast backward by flipendo, and whilst he did manage to find himself caught again, this time he managed to rip himself out of his predicament. Harper too would struggle to escape from the vines but to no avail. Fortunately, she would soon be joined by other racers. Bloom, Hunter, Clair and Wyatt flew onwards. And more than a few racers found themselves entangled in the green trap. Hunter and Bloom, for their own part, managed to avoid the ensnaring grip of the vines. Clair, on the other hand, found herself caught, although managed to rip herself free from the grip in due course. Only Wyatt found himself in a similar position to Harper, trapped and with no recourse.

With Percival beginning to break away from the group of racers at large, it seemed only natural that the Ravenclaws elected to try to send him crashing back to earth. Projectiles were flung at the young snake, and many hit the mark, causing more than a bit of damage. For their part, Wyatt, Percival and Hunter would cast spells of their own. Finally, Wyatt and Harper would be free from corrosion, even if they were not free from the vines. Although, Percival's own spell would find no mark, for there were no status effects to undo.

Interacting with Ravenclaw Broom Racers

Bloom was in the next unit, and instead of paying attention to others who couldn't make it out, she focused ahead and worked her way out of the area. Unfortunately, she scrapped herself, and began to bleed on her legs. Her gut reaction was to wipe off the blood, but she knew that would ruin her steady speed. Instead, she allowed it to burn from the whipping wind as she continued to move forward.

As she was heading towards the next area, there were more vines to dodge. Bloom was so over the amount of vines that this course had. She felt like she knew what to do when she immediately saw them. Dodging them successfully, she kept going.

Seeing Percival ahead, it made Bloom feel like she was way behind. Come on, she thought to herself, feeling a hint of competitiveness in her bones. She had then looked over and saw that with her in the area were nearly all of her teammates. She couldn't help but the smile. "Let's do this!" she shouted, motivating herself and hopefully motivating her teammates in the long run.

----Ok, so Vale decided to think about anything but the race. She knew better. She was even too much into thought that she failed to even realize she wasn't moving. The thoughts of her brother during the summer eerily returning to her mind that it was now costing her a horrifying race that introduced her the pain and agony that she greatly enjoyed. A foolish error. An error she can't make again.

And she won't.

Colin had to shake himself! He'd been too focused on the Ravenclaw girl, Clair, and began to fall back. "Grrrr!" Had she cast some hex on him? Couldn't put it past anyone --- even though this was his first race, he knew that it was a dangerous sport and spells were as likely to be thrown as stones!

"Focus lad! Focus!"

He looked over towards Vale --- she seemed to be engaged in her own internal struggle, and was emerging victorious. He gave her a full fanged smile of encouragement! He was determined to get through this race in the best position he could!

Hunter got a grip on his broom, deciding to focus more on his maneuvering than his speed. He smoothly moved around and between the vines while trying to recollect his thoughts and ignore the presence of other students. Of course, though, it was difficult as the bundimum acid burned the bleeding wounds on his body. He took out his wand, prepared to wash the bundimum acid away, but couldn't help but notice Harper deeply entangled in the vines. Her struggles seemed tiring, and Hunter could notice the bundimum acid on her body was only going to make her exhaustion worse. He sighed, seeing this as tedious but necessary. Hunter needed allies and he needed to paint a facade that portrayed him as helpful to everyone. He needed to gather favors from other students, and this seemed like the best moment. He could feel the acid burn but ignored it as the incantation whispered from his mouth with his wand pointed towards the poor girl.

By the time Scarlet had realised her mind had been wandering it was too late, whatever kind of standing she had in the race she had now lost. There was no one around her and after a quick glance backwards, she didn’t think there was anyone behind her either. She was gutted at how easily she had lost her positions amounts to the other racers. As difficult as it was though she would have to see this as what it must be, a minor setback - not failure and not the end. Not yet.

Percival was looking unwell up there, to say the least. Wyatt couldn't say he wasn't frustrated, with these nerds targeting their front runner. Their MVP (as dictated by the 2021-2022 Slytherin yearbook)! Still, Wyatt wasn't going to give up hope that they had a shot at winning, even though he was completely snared in these stupid vines. Wow, this game really was gonna kill him.
