Cade had the nervous jitters all through traveling to the London Stadium that morning, and it wasn't because of the side-along apparition to the Leaky Cauldron. Nor was it because Mr. Darkbound left him to navigate the muggle Underground all by himself since he had a rather important business meeting at the Ministry. Cade felt rather lonesome on the train but he could recognize a few of his kind among the muggles. Strange robes and baubles co-mingling with the black business attire the muggles sported. Cade himself was wearing muggle clothing, a rather unassuming artsy teenager sporting dark charcoal-dusted fingers and an oversized tote bag. Little did anyone know, his mother had conjured a snippy extension charm within his bag so he wouldn't have to lug his trunk on the commuters train. Though it looked quite small, Cade knew within were weeks worth of clothing and various art supplies as well as light reading he probably wouldn't get to. No, Cade had the jitters for something else entirely. He was nervous about being someplace new with people from all around the world. It was like his first year at Hogwarts all over again!

So upon arrival at the stadium, he sorely wished he'd thought to owl a friend to meet him. Perhaps they could have signed up for a tent together, but with a sinking feeling, he thought of all those chances he had in the months leading up to camp. A lot of his friends had gone on holiday with their parents. And the few people he knew from Hogwarts weren't necessarily his close comrades. No matter, after dawdling through the registration line, Cade queued himself by the tent registry table and scrawled his name upon a random chaos-themed tent. He wasn't quite sure what that meant. But it sure as Merlin sounded better than the parrot-themed tent. Kim Sato directed the young artist towards the aforementioned plot, handing him a map of the stadium as well as a bit of other literature that would decorate the bottom of Cade's bag.

The tent was rather unassuming and small on the outside as all tents decidedly are. Painted canvas depicted the word Chaos --and a quote underneath that Cade didn't bother to read-- for he was too eager to see inside. Opening the flap, Cade ducked inside and took a look around. Immediately he noticed the high ceilings and hardwood floors. Soft stormy blue Persian rugs layered upon the main room with comfortable pillows and bean bags scattered around a potbelly stove complete with a few bags of marshmallows for roasting. Soft flickering lanternlights dotted the tent sitting on end tables and hanging on stilts. Behind this section, stretching out further were a couple of unmade bunks each in their own corners. This entire side looked barren, an invitation to decorate, perhaps? One was already claimed, Cade surmised, as a girl sat upon a blanketed bed reading with her back turned.

Cade would approach the beds careful not to trip on the pillows, picking a bed to lay his tote upon. "Morning," the artist would call over to her. "My name is Cade, I'm from Hogwarts." Cade sat on his mattress, noting the horrible mothball scent that lingered upon it. Would it be weird if he got up and chose another? Cade's midnight eyes darted around the other beds but found none superior. "Been here long?" Cade got to his feet again and started raiding his tote, looking for the sheets Peggy had packed him.

I didn't want to come. I didn't want to go back to Hogwarts after the Easter holidays... But my mum signed me up and made me come. I was going to have a disastrous August. My mum may have made me come, but she won't be able to make me do all the shitty activities that are planned this month.
Come on, darling. Go on, meet people, have fun!
Me? Fun? Seriously?
At least make an effort. See you at Christmas!
Yeah, I'll make an effort. I'll say hi to my tent mates. Or not. My mother wanted us to be among the first to arrive. She asked me to dress up to make a good impression. I think I succeeded with my crochet top and long black skirt. As for make-up, I had accentuated my paleness with dark green eyeshadow, a straight line of liner and a dark lipstick. I had marked my dark circles and my long black hair was perfectly straight. I looked exactly the way I wanted to look.
When I arrived among the first, I went to one of the tents that attracted the most people. A Chaos tent. With my bag over my shoulder, my enchanted suitcase in one hand and Onyx's cage in the other, I walked with a determined step towards the tent, hoping that it was empty. I would rather be the person allowing people in than the person asking to enter. Luckily, I was there first.
I had to admit that the tent was quite well decorated. Without going into detail, there were blue rugs, pillows, footstools, a stove and marshmallows. Without really dwelling on the main area, I walked towards the bed in the corner of the tent. I set up the blankets and added some pillows from my suitcase. I then placed Onyx's pet bed at the foot of my bed. Satisfied for the moment, I sat cross-legged on the bed with my back to the entrance and took a book out of my bag.
Morning
Morning
I had heard him enter. But I didn't do anything. My book is better than the arrival of a guy. I answered his hello anyway before closing my book and turning to him. I knew him. At least by sight. He was a Duelist from Ravenclaw if I remember correctly.
My name is Cade, I'm from Hogwarts.
I know that you're from Hogwarts, Cade. We're in the same house. I'm Anastasia. No nicknames before I know you better.
It's amazing how nobody knows me. Am I that forgettable? It's true that I'm not very talkative but I had hoped that people would know that I exist. Because most people don't need to introduce themselves to me but they do anyway. I listen. I know who some of the students at Ravenclaw are.
Been here long?
It depends. Am I here when I'm reading?

Upon inspecting the outside of the tent with its dark colors highlighted by bright ones and reading the word 'Chaos' along with the quote 'Calm your chaos but never silence your storm', Jack nodded satisfactorily to himself. Then he swept aside the tent flaps and stepped inside. It was cozier than he had inspected and there were already two students within. Jack thought he had seen both of them around school, so they must have been Hogwarts students, but he was only really familiar with Cade since he had met him at Leonard Oakworth's birthday party.

"Hello," he greeted the pair with a wave of his hand, regarding them each. They both seemed slightly younger than he was and the girl had make-up on that went with the main dark colors of the outside of the tent. Her black hair was straight and long and looked even darker compared to her skin. Cade, though lacking the make-up, seemed just about as pale as the girl with his own black hair and brown eyes also contrasting his light complexion. Though a year below Jack, he was pretty tall for his age and thin like a beanstalk.

Jack, for his part, wore muggle jeans and a t-shirt that read 'I don't argue, I explain why I'm right.' His red hair with its blonde and brown streaks was disheveled in a manner that suggested he hadn't done more than run a hand through it after getting out of bed. He grinned brightly at the other two kids and went to throw his bag over onto a top bunk bed. The other two students seemed to have been having a conversation when he had come in and he hadn't wanted to interrupt them with more than his greeting, so he waited until the girl finished speaking to Cade. It seemed her first name was Anastasia.

Curious, Jack went over to a sheet of the tents occupants hung up on a wall and looked over the list that had been assigned this particular tent. Anastasia, Anastasia...ah. Anastasia Varney was her full name.

He chuckled softly at Anastsia's question if Cade considered her 'here' while reading. She definitely seemed like a Ravenclaw, alright, which she must have been if she and Cade were in the same house.

"Darkbound. Varney," he said, nodding to each of them in turn. "I'm Jack Burnett. Seems like we'll be spending a lot of this summer camp together. Good to see you again, Darkbound, and to meet you, Varney." Flopping back on the bed he had claimed as his own, he asked, "Are either of you signed up for any events?"

Cade smiled sheepishly towards Anastasia once she introduced herself. Of course, he recognized her now that he actually bothered to regard her. Before what was he to think? She was faced away engrossed in quite the dense book. Cade thought it was a bit unfair of her to blame him, but he would swallow his pride. Best to remain civil on their first day. "I beg your pardon, Princess Romanov." Cade muttered ignoring the plea for no nicknames. At last, he found his sheets and shook them out, carefully draping them over his bed. In all honesty, Cade hadn't been very involved with his house and their events. He'd been too focused on the dueling club to really have a social life during the term. That was completely his own fault.

The other Ravenclaw barely looked up from her pages as she dryly replied to his question with another question. And Cade furrowed his brows in thought. It was a good one to be sure. The body remained in the physical plane but the mind was off elsewhere imagining the world of the author. Cade opened his mouth to muster a nice retort but briskly clamped it shut when he espied another figure coming into the tent. Jack Burnett was the name his brain provided. A bloke Cade briefly met at Leonard Oaksworth's birthday celebration a few months back. Cade recalled him vividly thanks to his flaming red hair. This time Jack sported a muggle t-shirt, its message spoke volumes about his charisma or lack thereof. "Good to see you, mate." Cade would shoot a knowing smirk and nod up at Jack who decided to claim the top bunk.

Jack asked them about the events and Cade would lower his gaze back to the task at hand, his bangs falling over his eyes. "At the moment, I've signed up for the dueling matches. But there are a ton of events... You don't think it's too late to sign up for another, do you? I was rather keen on the idea of pirate Capture the Flag." Cade rambled finally completing his haphazardly made bed. It was nothing like what the house elves were capable of. But it would get the job done. Cade called that a win.

I beg your pardon, Princess Romanov.
I think for two seconds before I realise that this must be a Muggle reference I don't have. Onyx jumps onto the bed and curls up on my lap. While stroking my ferret's head, I answer Cade.
If that's a Muggle reference, I don't have it. Sorry.
Sorry was supposed to be polite but the way I said it made it sound sarcastic. I like being sarcastic. Knowing that my few minutes of respite were over, I turned back to the entrance of the tent, still sitting cross-legged. I put my bookmark in my book and put it on the pillow.
Hello.
Hi!
A falsely cheerful greeting. And it sounded good. I wanted to show the two boys that I didn't want to be there and I would spend all my time in the stadium bleachers. Nice summer. At least I would have Onyx and my books. I wouldn't have my music or my room or the manor gardens, but I wouldn't have my mother on my back all the time.
Darkbound. Varney. I'm Jack Burnett. Seems like we'll be spending a lot of this summer camp together. Good to see you again, Darkbound, and to meet you, Varney.
I'd say I'm glad to meet you. But I'd be lying. No offense.
Another Hogwarts student super happy to spend the least amount of August away from home, with other people, having fun. Like really having fun. With people. I had fun when my dad was still here. When we played chess. When we went out in the middle of the night for a walk. That was fun. But spending a whole month socialising. With people? No, thanks.
Are either of you signed up for any events?
What for? I'm going to spend my August reading the 27 books I brought here.
At the moment, I've signed up for the dueling matches. But there are a ton of events... You don't think it's too late to sign up for another, do you? I was rather keen on the idea of pirate Capture the Flag.
I roll my eyes at the absurdity of boys, extroverts and humans in general. It's mean to people like me who don't like people, but I wasn't thinking about that at the time. I had planned to have bed curtains, in case my tent mates were annoying. Cade and Jack aren't annoying at heart. But I didn't know who else was coming, so I preferred to be prepared. So I laid Onyx gently back on her pet bed and pulled the midnight blue fabric strips from my suitcase. I hung the metal hooks on the top bunk, deciding that only a girl who wasn't too loud would be able to sleep there.

Cade's reference to the Princess Anastasia Romanov almost caused Jack to laugh aloud and he quickly put a hand over his mouth to muffle it. As a lover of history and a muggle-born, he immediately understood and appreciated the reference, but was surprised when Anastasia did not. "He's talking about the Princess Anastasia. From Russian history. You know, because you share the same name? It's hardly a muggle reference; I would think wizards studied the same basic world history." Unless she was one of those people who didn't bother paying attention to history.

He turned back to Cade who seemed to be preparing his space and listened as he talked about what he had signed up for. "Wow, best of luck with those duels! I can't imagine what kind of courage you have to have going into those," he remarked, and meant it. "Not to mention strategy and the like. As far signing up, I don't think it's too late! They really did seem to go all out with this pirate theme this year, didn't they? Should be fun."

When Anastasia mentioned she'd say she was glad to meet him but she would have been lying, Jack snickered. "None taken," he answered regarding the offense she said she didn't mean. "Most people aren't really glad to meet me anyway." With his aversion to friendships, he made sure it was that way on purpose. That didn't mean he couldn't be civil about getting along with others, though. Cade seemed like a nice, intelligent guy. Jack liked him from the get-go. Anastasia, however...she seemed like she would take some getting used to.

"If you're going to spend camp reading and you could do that at home, why are you here? Were you sent here?"" Jack asked, genuinely curious as he watched the female student begin to set up and personalize her own bed.
