Hufflepuff v Gryffindor Broom Race Summer Games 2022

The vines had always proved to be a bit of a challenge in these races. There was always so many of them, tangling together, twisting and spiraling to form an impossible wall of dense foliage. To make them trickier, the only way around the obstacle was through it. Their expanse was far too wide to quickly maneuver around either side. Flying over was out of the question since the vines were woven above like a canopy. The only thing that made them remotely bearable to pass through, was the fact that they were not magical. The Gryffindor metamorph had her run-in with sentient vines in her second year during a rendezvous to the Forbidden Forest. She didn't sustain many injuries, but she could have gone without the experience.

Xailah had been adjusting herself on her broom once the creepers came into clear view. She maintained her hunkered position that she adopted when moving through the passageways, but slid her limbs down her brooms wooden shaft to make moving through narrow openings easier. She made it through the first curtain, which was loosely packed with the razor-like plant life. She would not get by it unharmed however, as some of the thorns had snagged her uniform and whipped her cheeks. Cold air touched the small wounds, making them sting slightly. The feeling akin to a paper cut was one she thought she would never grow numb to.

Most of the racers were far ahead now, nearing closer and closer to the finish. Xailah was trying her best to keep close to her pride, but the vines were simply in the way. The only other racer nearby was Hufflepuff's Jack Warren; who like Hugh, appeared to have an impressive throwing arm. His aim, while remarkable considering he was practically throwing through vines, would prove detrimental to Gryffindor's captain. The leading lion wasn't looking so great after the bald badgers projectile clocked him in the back of the head. Well, and eye for an eye, right? Gryffindor had taken one of the badgers out of the game, maybe it was only fair for Hufflepuff to do the same.

Serena zoomed past thorns, ducking her head and swooping around whenever she needed to to try and avoid getting nicked by any of them. She sighed a breathe of relief as she flew past the thorns without getting hurt and her gaze wondered around, to see where her teammates were - and where her opponents were. Perhaps it was them distracting her, perhaps it was her speed. Whatever it was, she felt a vine tie tightly around her foot. It started to capture her, causing curses to escape her lips as she struggled against them, trying to break out of them. Moving quickly, Serena managed to wiggle her way out of them.

Flying past the famous willow tree, Serena quickly zoomed past another bunch of thorns. She thought she was free but when she found herself surrounded by trees. The forest was enormous! They were everywhere! There was no room or gaps! How was anyone supposed to get passed this?! Cursing under her breath as she scraped past the trees, leaving wound marks all over her arms and legs, Serena grumbled. She gritted her teeth as she managed to get passed them, hissing to herself in irritation. Where did those bloody trees come from!? What idiot made a forest that was so hard to navigate through?!

This slender Scots Pine would make a fine Christmas Tree but this tree was modified with purpose. A metallic framed seat complete with windshield and stirrups has been added at the back, serving as the tree's counterweight. This sturdy, reliable tree that will definitely get the job done.

Speed: Top Speed is 6, however when you reach a speed of 6 this increases to a 10% chance that you will auto miss (with anything requiring an accuracy roll) and you will be auto-hit (with anything requiring a dodge roll).
Ability: Immune to broken broomshaft.
This broom is intended to carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. This broom can carry up to four users. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance. Returning users to their broom is a free action for the owner of the blue bottle, but those being returned to their broom need to use their action getting to their broom. Only one person can be returned to their broom as a free action (for the owner) per round, they can use their action to return a second user however.

Outfit of the Day

This was awesome, even better than she had expected it to be. Marina could not wait to write home to her family about the race. Continuing to ignore her surroundings, Marina clung to her broom as if her life depended on it, which it kind of did, doing her best to dodge the obstacles that came her way.

The race was rapidly approaching its end, and Jack felt that most everyone knew that. He had managed to bean McCowan on the back of the head, but now it was time to finish the job. Determined to destroy the Gryffindor front runner, Jack would double down. It was time to secure victory.

Broom Racing Moderation
Round 4

Vintage tee, brand new phone. High heels on cobblestones. It is another round of broom racing. Looking at the last round, it seems like we can definitely predict the winner of this match. Most people had established their role in the race such as the flyer, the thrower, the spell caster, and the dead. Things were getting more interesting each round and that won’t change anytime soon in this round.

Out of ten racers, only five decided to fly further. One definitely can’t do that because she, Athena, was currently unconscious and still doing her astonishing dance performance on the ground. To refresh everyone’s memory, George’s spell backfired last round, making him immobile but still able to fly. So what he did was flying one unit forward just so his immobile self would be mobile once more.

Good thing that his plan to make himself be able to wiggle again came to fruition. Congratulations. Unit 17 to 21 were free of challenges, call it a breath of fresh air after the torture they had been through. Hell was the journey but it brought them heaven, hopefully. Starting from unit 16, Della, Marina, Serena and Simon flew forward with probably the same goal in mind, winning. Marina, however, with the help of her almost dying captain, flew faster than any racers present which would make her on the lead if she could pass through the wind.

Simon stopped in unit 18, it seemed like he was about to do something rather suspicious whilst the others continued their journey either to victory or their demise. Following the pretty badger, Della also stopped in unit 21, though she didn’t do anything shady other than flying. Both Serena and Marina could feel the wind in their hair, it wasn’t too hard, but one level above comfortable. They would have to hold onto their broom or tree for Serena’s case to be able to get through it.

This round was flawless, don’t you let it go. Both Marina and Serena flew through the windy area as if it were nothing, though Serena was doing much better. She was indeed the critical success queen. Whilst she stopped in the windy unit, Marina would continue because of the amazing alley oop done by Nicholas. And again, she’d come across yet another wind, but this time it was slightly stronger than before, she’d need to put more effort in this unit.

Barely, just barely. But she did it. It was surely a tad harder than before but Marina managed to stay in her broom. She could definitely smell the air of victory, it was so close yet so far. Just a little bit more…

Meanwhile, a couple units behind her, violent actions were taking place. If this were a love story, they’d see the lights, the party, and the ball gowns. But this was a broom racing match and nothing good starts in a broom racing match, no. Some would ride, cry, die, and say goodbye in it. People could definitely see spells, rocks, and more rocks. Gryffindor’s best professional rock thrower, Hugh, was still in unit 1 and blindfolded, trying to throw another rock at Simon Kincaid. And if we look at unit 11 where Jack Warren was staying in, he too was trying to throw a rock at the Gryffindor captain who was clearly almost dying from the previous challenges. And in unit 18, Simon the prey and now the archer, was also targeting the same person as Jack.

It was a struggle to keep his eyes open, through the pain and the light-headedness, every instinct screamed for Nicholas to rest, to allow himself to slip into blackness. He fought those urges with every waking fibre of his being. Of course, that did little to waylay the far more pressing voices inside his head that begged him to land, not to push his body further. God, he wanted to stop, for the pain to end. The acid that he’d been ignoring up until that point tore away at his flesh and his sanity alike, but it wasn’t the worst of it, that was reserved for the blood. He’d never had much of an aversion to the liquid, but as he felt the warm sensation of his very essence running down his arms and clotting his hair, he could not deny that he felt more and more light-headed.

He struggled to hold onto his broom, and he found his pace lagging. He knew, knew it deep down, that there was no way he was finishing the race.

Nicholas shot a look over his shoulder, gathering a look at the racers behind him. Della and Marina were hot on his tail, but as was Serena.

He knew what he had to do then, even if he couldn’t finish the race, he sure as shit could make sure that one his team could claim the victory for themselves.

“Marina!” He shouted, pulling his broom to a stop and shifting it to face away from the direction of the finish line.

The single word was all he could muster, but it would have to do. He would grab the newest lion’s broom, and using the momentum from his own stationary craft, would fling her well out and in front. The shapes of Serena and then Della passed him by, but he didn’t pay them much mind. Instead, his eyes remained trained on Marina, watching with bated breath as she held firm through the first set of strong winds.

Instinct alone allowed him to sense the first projectile, and he whipped his broom the left at the last second. Turning his head to look at who had thrown the rock at him, he never managed to see the object of his ire, for a second projectile cracked him in the temple.

Blackness overcame him, the sweet embrace of unconsciousness taking its vice-like grip, and with it, his own grip was lost. Boy and broom alike plummeted to the earth below, like a cardinal struck by a hunter, the Gryffindor captain was plucked from the sky. There was no poetry to his exit. In one moment he had been overcome with the joy of watching the newest cub to join his pride march onward to victory, in the next he was overcome with nothing at all.
