Triathalon: Round 1 Swimming
to be updated...
Soon enough, everything was starting. The sheer amount of people was a little daunting, but Kit watched for the signal before racing towards the water. Even if she didn't much care for the prize and just wanted to participate, she would still be competitive about it. The rising third year would splash through the water as long as she could, before trying to push off of the ground and diving into the water to swim. The first part was a little disheartening to watch as people passed her left and right, but she made sure to keep a count in her head and remind herself that it was more important to conserve energy. As the last few students grappled for their position, Kit would find herself swimming alongside a group of others that had a similar pace. She was pretty happy to be by them, further incentive to keep her pace throughout the lap. And that was what happened, finishing the first lap without expending too much energy. A success!
"Thank you for the pacing!" She would call out to those closest to her, those couple of seconds becoming her break before she continued onto the next level. Hopefully she'd find another group to pace with on Level 2 as well.

Raphael looked up, surprised to find himself addressed from the side. He'd made himself at home in his little loner corner and he was happy there (for the most part). Angélique and he didn't usually talk much outside of practice, or at all, and the use of his nickname came unexpected. It probably shouldn't, it wasn't an uncommon shortening of his name. Still, not many people here called him that, it was something he associated with home.
"You too," he replied after a touch of a pause, watching her for a moment longer. She didn't seem to expect more chitchat, thankfully, which he was grateful for, although impending sports events - as long as they didn't require him to cast magic - made him more upbeat and chatty than usual.
Once the signal sounded, Raphael set off, jumping into the water in an arc and starting to push himself forward. He was still amazed that they had just turned the entire stadium into an oversized swimming pool, but that was magic for you. He started off the first lap carefully, not wanting to immediately exhaust himself, but started pushing himself more to get ahead of the pack - nothing more annoying than swimming where you had to be careful not to accidentally kick or hit someone with every stroke. There were a few people ahead of him, but Raph estimated that he had made a spot for himself in the first quarter of people at least - and there were still more laps to come.
Time to push harder, then, and enjoy the slight burn that came with exerting muscles he usually didn't use that much.

Triathalon: Round 1 Swimming
@Henry Knight as CharlesThe conversation with Charles helped Haley to distract herself a little and not fall into nervousness. But why was she so nervous anyway? Maybe because she wanted to show Charles what she was capable of. Because she wanted to make him, as her big brother, proud. Or maybe because she didn't want to embarrass herself in front of Ronnie, or simply because she wanted to prove something to herself. The young Gryffindor couldn't answer the question herself and before she racked her brain, she tried to distract herself further.
Haley looked in the direction Charles was looking and started to laugh at his remark. "Oh I think he's just the right size for me." She replied laughing and waving at Ronnie from a distance. "Of course, you're right." She averted her gaze again and winked at Charles before bidding him farewell. "Yeah, I'll see you later. Best of luck." She wished the tall blonde before turning back inside.
Haley stood at the starting line, taking a deep breath and making the most of the last few minutes before the competition would begin. She closed her eyes for a moment and concentrated on her breathing and all the sounds around her. She could hear all the many voices, the wind, birds and softly the water in front of her.
Prepared and unprepared at the same time, the starting gun went off and Haley jumped into the water. Well, she jumped but she slipped a little and it looked more like falling than jumping. She shook her head and tried to collect herself as quickly as possible and started swimming, but she could already see that she had lost distance with it and some were already swimming further ahead of her. But she gave it her all, she was not one to give up and so she ignored the fact and concentrated only on swimming.
But no matter how hard she tried, it was not her turn. Kim's voice also confirmed this when he told her and a few others that they had not made it. A few metres away, she could see the ship. The destination she had failed to reach. Up ahead she saw Charles too and she was happy for him but wanted to sink into the ground herself, somehow ashamed.
She clung to the boat and murmured a soft "thank you." Her mind was already on her next attempt and she really really hoped she would make it this time. She took the chance to recover a bit before she would start again. She was not alone and so the whole game started all over again for some of the participants. Haley took a deep breath, concentrated and tried not to make a mistake this time and to give even more than before, hoping that this time she would reach the ship.Action: trying Round 1 again

Word Count: 208 Mention: @Sophia Nelson as Ayako Yamamura Date: August 8th 2022LEVEL 2:After one final smile at Ayako, the triathlon would begin. Chiaki dived into the water, letting the cold take over her system momentarily before kicking off amongst the tangle of arms and legs.
It was hard to see, and the water stung her eyes a little, but she tried to adjust quickly. She attempted to pace herself, taking the lap one stroke at a time. There were still two more laps to swim, plus the rest of the triathlon.
It did seem that she was actually doing relatively well. She'd gained quite a lot of distance, and when she looked, she couldn't even see Ayako. That meant that she was beating her? Chiaki couldn't help but smile in amazement. She almost missed the fact she'd crossed the line and finished the first lap.
Her energy was still quite high, at least for now, though by continuously swimming she could feel it slowly draining from her. Making sure she remembered to breathe between strokes, she pushed forwards.
There were still quite a lot of people ahead of her, and her mildly competitive nature meant that she did want to beat them. Maybe not Ayako-level crush them, but still, beating them was the priority in her mind.
she just kept swimming. Stroke by stroke.

Florian had been deep into his stretching and hadn't quite noticed one of his fellow Beauxbaton students greeted him quite cheerfully. He jumped slightly, startled from his stretching reverie, as Quentin said his hello's, then going on about contact sports of the muggle variety. Florian wasn't the type to judge based on one's blood status, but at this moment in time, he simply didn't care. He came here to win.
He stood up to look at the boy after a few reps of alternate arm to toe touches, and put on a charming smile. He wasn't one to waste a friendship if it could possible gain him something. Plus, better not to anger a fellow Quidditch mate. Who knew when you might need their help?
"Salut, Quentin. I would think I am a decent swimmer, there is a lovely lake on my parents property." This was somewhat true. Sure, there was a small lake near his home, but he rarely spent any time in it unless he fell off his broom while practicing a racing or quidditch stunt. "Wrestling would be interesting though... although what if one upped the anti and wrestled on a broom?" He couldn't help but grin at the thought. Sure it happened often in Quidditch and Broom Racing where someone would blatch an opponent, but to have that be the entire goal of the game could be quite the show.
It appeared it was almost time to start, and Florian wished Quentin the best of luck. "Good luck, Quentin. May the best swimmer win!" he said, unable to hold back his excitement.
However, after the start of the race was called, it was clear Florian had quite a bit more training to do if he was going to make it through the Hexwizard tournament. He was practically in last place, and wasn't able to make it through the finish before time was called. He gripped the side of Kim's boat, certainly trying to catch his breath.
"Again... *huff* yes... I will go again... *huff puff*"

She didnt want to feel any sirt of shock from the temperature of the water. As soon as it started, reena dove in the water. Instead of sticking her head up right away, she stayed underwater with her arms in front of her pressed together. She kept up her streamline swim until she needed air. She made her way to the surface and tilted her head to the side to take huge gulps of fresh air. She stuck her face back under and kept swimming until she needed air again. She kept doing this so she didnt break the stream. When she was younger, she did ocean swim, which was swimming except you were racing in waves. So she was confident about this since there wasnt huge rough waves. Everytime she tilted her head to the side for air, she noticed she was right next to about 5 others. She pushed herself, determined to get ahead.
But she couldnt. However, she managed to complete the lap. She clung to the ship and gasped for air, smiling at the other 5 people she had swam next to. They made some good company.

Hello Rita! I'm Louca, nice to meet you. Yes, thank you Kim for organizing things." Louca waved at Rita, and directed the last part of his sentence in the general area, unsure which student was Kim, but just rolling with the flow as he was wont to do.
Taking the hand that was offered to him, Louca enthusiastically shakes it, letting go after a moment. "Nice to meet you Romeo. Oh, Durmstrang, nice! Do you play any sports?"
Louca nodded along. "There is that. It'll be nice to cool down a bit, especially considering we'll likely be hot not long after that again."
Louca looked around, noting Stephen approaching. Waving at him, Louca flashed a happy smile in his direction. "Hey Stephen! Doing good, I'm ready to cool off definitely. How are you doing? Signed up for anything else?"
Louca nodded along, content to listen for the moment. He snorted at Stephen's mention of a merman, and then laughed at the comment about his swim shorts. "Nope, though those merman skills would definitely be helpful in this first level, might be detrimental to the other sections though. And hey, gotta make sure I'm visible to all my opponents, after all, how are they going to be able to see me so far away?" Louca teased, a bit of confidence coming out in his tone as he spoke indirectly about taking the lead. Hopefully talking about it in a sideways manner would negate the possibility of a jinx.
Louca blushed slightly at Hailey's greeting. "Hey Hailey! So glad to see you again! Of course, can't keep me away." Louca chuckled. "Oh I'm sure they will. Excellent! we'll have to catch up later then!" Louca felt slightly out of breath from the conversation, feeling as if it had passed so quickly and wishing it had gone on a bit longer.
Louca barely caught the sound of the hi that was spoken. Greeting them happily, Louca said "Hey there. Excited to get started?"
He moved closer to the water as he noticed one of the figures moving towards the lake, and stretched slightly, waiting to see what would happen. As soon as he could, Louca jumped in the water, not quite gracefully diving in, but it was better than a belly flop. Louca brought his arms up and over his head one at a time, moving through the water with very little difficulty, although admittedly he wasn't breathing as often as he should. But still, it seemed that there weren't many ahead of him, so at least he was close to the front.
Louca was more than happy when the leader, Kim, grabbed their attention and he could just tread water for a moment, taking large breaths of air to catch up from the shallow breath's he had been taking. Louca closed his eyes and grinned, picturing himself managing to finish the next lap at the top of the pack.
Taking a deep breath, Louca pushed his torso forward, pushing his body hard to start the second lap, wanting to be near the top if not at the top.

LEVEL TWO
Honestly, Elena was a tad bit shocked she hadn't gone straight down to the fishes when the water had greeted her with open arms. She had never been much of an swimmer yet her arms and legs were moving in ways she didn't know and somehow, she was steaming ahead. The girl reckoned she was doing something right if her muscles were shrieking at her in protest. The waves lapped away at her and every now and then, she came up for a gasp of air before returning to cutting through the seas gritting her teeth deciding that this was considerably worse than Quidditch. Elena thought it was cruel really tempting them with the dry deck of the sea vessel bobbing up and down as they tried to desperately swim around it in various directions, some poor souls were still trying to make up the lost distance from the initial swim lap though if you couldn't cut it through the start than the rest would be a nightmare to say the rest.
She shook her head, a few droplets flying as she did so. "Quitter talk, we don't do that." She told herself before plunging forth as every limb in her body reprimanded her for doing so just willing herself to keep on pushing. It could not be so complicated, you simply had to get from one point to another and while unlike the pitch, they didn't have great, big Bludgers flying at them, she would not put it past the organizers to pin a couple of sharks or Mermish folk on them just for the giggles. As the though crossed her, she glanced downward regretting her mistake almost instantly as she was met with a faceful of water that flooded into her mouth and nostrils as the girl coughed and sputtered. "They better hope I don't make it all the way through because if I do.." She let the sentence trail off muttering darkly mostly annoyed at the fact that it would take a while to be rid of this sopping wetness that now enclosed them. The more Elena tired, the heavier the water got in dragging her down and that simply would not do.
Grunting, she mustered up some forceful energy propelling herself forth with whatever bit of Gryffindor courage she had in her hoping it would be enough. The first round had just been the warm-up, now they were getting to the real thing and she had a very real feeling the final lap would not be as kind as to allow any mistakes. Hopefully, they had measures in place to prevent any unfortunate drowning or water-based incidents because somehow, Elena had a feeling not everyone would be lucky as her to make it through these demanding waters. She had always observed it as a gentle force of nature welcoming and pretty to look at but like all things, you never truly got to know what something or someone was like until experiencing it for yourself. Elena Jangleton certainly was experiencing something alright as her figure shimmered through the watery surfaces keen to show the forces of nature that were some things that it could not control like the heart of a Gryffindor although given the present situation, that might have been easier said than done.

Astrid dived into the water at the same time as several people and because of her small size she did not manage to enter the peloton. Breaststroke was not an option for this race. She started to swim the crawl without forcing herself because there were several laps to do.
During the whole time of the first level of the round, Astrid sang a song in her head. She knew she could do it. Be part of the first three. She had to be in the top 3 of this round. And in the worst case, she could be among the first 5.
When she was swimming, Astrid went into extreme concentration mode. She forgot everything. Charles, Quidditch, her unproblematic problems. All that remained in her mind were one or more songs and the people around her. She was used to swimming with her eyes open in quite salty water. So here, in the middle of several swimmers, Astrid swam with her eyes open under water from time to time.
Kim's speech was supposed to be encouraging but it was just annoying to Astrid's ears. She hesitated for a few seconds then thought that insulting the referee was not necessarily the best idea.

Triathalon: Round 1 Swimming
Santario dove into the water when the signal to start was given. The cold water enveloping her body was almost euphoric, allowing her to clear her mind and just swim. She didn’t pay attention to any of the other swimmers other than not to bump into anyone else, though after a while, it seemed she did not even need to heed other swimmers. All that mattered to her was arm over arm, the kick of her feet, a turn of her head for breath, and the sound of her own heartbeat in her ears.English | French | Irish
Finishing first gave her a small moment to hold on to the ship's side while she waited for everyone else to finish. A slight reprieve she would desperately need for the next level of this round. “How in the hell did I manage that?” She muttered to herself, knowing she wasn’t the strongest of people and would likely get stuck on this second lap, but that was what this was about in the first place. Seeing just how far she could manage to go. It would show her the areas in which she could try to improve herself for all the different situations Hogwarts could try to throw at her.
