Volaril was odd. Quite odd. For one thing, she loved rats. Her favorite was the adorable gray rat. She loved to write, and had written her own version of Babbity Rabbity, called Rattity Battity. Her family hated rats with a fiery passion, and so know she was trying to earn enough galleons and sickles to pay for one. Volaril hummed softly to herself as she entered the Magical Menegerie. “Oh my gosh, wow!” Volaril gazed at the many creatures hooting, barking, meowing, croaking, and squeaking. Maybe-maybe I should get something else. I bet I could save up for an owl. She thought, but pushed the thought away. Rats needed a home so much more than any other creature. She’d been so lonely lately, feeling like her muggle family was not a part of her life, and she new she needed a friend just as odd as she was. Volaril had decided to make a mental list before she came, and went through some of her favorites. Wyett. Asha. Kaper. Misha. Silku. Pompy. Floof. Kettle. She thought back to one of the many times she’d asked for a rat. “Another A?” Her father smiled. “You study so hard, pumpkin.” “Then- can I ask you something? As a present?” Volaril asked, giving her father puppy eyes. Her father sighed. “What is it, pumpkin?” “I really want a pet rat!” She exploded. “Val, we went over this. No. That is our final word. Final.” Her father said, looking at her sternly. “But Daddy!” Volaril whined. “Volaril, what is it?” Her mother called. “I want a pet rat!” Volaril called up. “No, Val. Don’t ask again.” Her mother replied. “Do you understand?” “Yes Mom.” She groaned, and stormed upstairs. Now, thinking back on the memory, she smiled. What would her family think of her new pet? They wouldn’t love it, no, but maybe they’d like it. Volaril looked around the pet store, and saw, to her delight, a small, gray, rat. “Awww!” She squealed. “You look like a Silku, little baby!” Volaril cooed. The rat cocked it’s little head. She quickly walked over to the counter, and smiled at the person behind it. “Could I have that one? Val asked with a smile, pointing at Silku. “Yes. That’ll be..” Volaril hummed as the person counted on her fingers. She gave the person the money, and walked out with a beautiful, small, gray, gentil, female rat that the odd girl adored with all of her heart. “I’ll take you to Hogwarts when I go. For now, you are my hidden friend.” She murmured.
