Now things were getting interesting. Vines twisted ahead. It was there where a claim for first blood would be made. The distant form of one of the Hufflepuffs began to slouch. Soon she would fall from her broom entirely, due to the backfire of one of her own spells. A few of her fellow teammates regarded the girls writhing body with what could only be assumed as confusion- maybe shock. Xailah looked down at the small flailing shape with concern, and mayhaps pity. It was always a shame to see the younger racers fall victim to exhaustion. Many had a tendency to beat themselves up in the hospital wing for it. As an nursing intern, Xailah heard it all, their words of self shame were always such sad things to hear a child say. Hughs improvised missile may have been the cause for the young badgers demise. But there was no way of confirming that. He would likely get the blame regardless of the the real cause. He was the biggest and most threatening thing on the field. It was easy to blame him.

With a whole arsenal of spells at a wixes disposal, it was sometimes easy to forget the ones that weren't allowed. Especially when tension was high and adrenaline clouded your brain. There were some obvious spells- such as Incendio, or smoke to daggers- the ones that caused immediate physical harm, which stood out. Rules regarding the more... mild of offensive spells- the ones that didn't burn or leave gouges- could conveniently slip the mind in a moment of peaking excitement. As would be displayed with a spontaneous act by the Gryffindor teams metamorphmagus player.

Xailah could be trigger-happy at times, though she could restrain herself well (and did most of the time), she was impulsive. Such is the nature of all children. However she did try to play by the rules- her rules, granted- and didn't particularly enjoy cheating. Or maybe she didn't enjoy getting caught... Both were likely and valid. Interchangeable really. Despite being highly aware of her surroundings, Xailah would fail to immediately register what she had done to one of the Hufflepuff boys nearby. She just acted. No second thoughts. Little room to consider remorse. Simons predicament was an honest fluke- a result of someone being too caught up in the speed of the race. There wasn't much else to it. And with Xailahs sights fixated on the vined path ahead, there would be no further reflection.

As he watched Nick keep his lead, Jack could feel annoyance grow in his chest. This race was supposed to be a cakewalk, and he was sitting behind the annoying Gryffindor. It was about time to have a little sit-down with nick and put his ass into the ground. There was nothin' more to it.

"Operation focus" as Marina had named it was still her biggest concern. She was doing everything she possibly could to ignore what was happening around her. At least no one had cast a spell at her this round.

Just hold on to your broom Marina reminded herself. Judging by what she knew Marina was pretty sure everything was going well.

Broom Racing Moderation
Round 3

Your midas touch and your chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure. This dorm was once a madhouse, but the broom racing round 3 would be… madder? More mad?. In the last round, things were getting a little bit more violent. Spells were thrown from multiple directions, and another rock from Hugh Lowe. The badger team lost one of their racers. After successfully rendering the Hufflepuff pretty boy, Simon Kincaid, unconscious, Xailah decided to zoom zoom in full speed to catch up to her teammates. In unit 11, she came across the one who destroyed the vines, Serena Towers. Both of them had to go through the thorns that were moderately hard to get through.

The sharp thorns would pierce her skin, she’d bleed and take damage from it until she or someone else bandaged her, otherwise, she’d bleed for eternity, aka until the end of the round. If she’d ask the traffic light if it’ll be alright, they’d say “I don’t know”. Blue was probably the feeling she’d get, it was a cruel summer after all. She should’ve seen the invisible warning sign before zooming into the thorns. On the other hand, Serena was doing as gracefully as always. Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes. Maybe she made a deal with the devils to roll perfectly all the time.

Leaving the catwoman in the previous unit, Serena would meet her fellow racer, Simon Kincaid who was still immobilised but flying otherwise, and her two rivals, Marina and the Co-captain herself, Della. Time won’t fly, it was like Simon was paralysed by it. He’d like to find his old self again, maybe after this round. Will they be able to stop it from putting vines in their dreamland?

The near impossible vines turned into near possible vines, again, big thanks to the critical success queen. Despite all that, Serena, Simon, and Marina were failing at the challenge. We can all bully the losers but not Simon because he was immobilised, we can let it slide for once. However, all three of them had awesome strength, it was not a big struggle to wiggle their way out.

The whomping willow was feeling really bored, out of business, with no whomping activity, no one was stopping there, quite unfortunate. Ahead of them, they all could see another thorns, ready to strike them all too well. The four racers could see Nicholas not far in front of them. Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted. But if he was a ghost, someone should be a phantom and hold him for ransom. Unrelated, but ok. Let’s see their performances in this challenge, shall we?

Some boys are trying too hard, but not Nicholas. Nicholas was not trying at all, because he bled, once again. It seemed like he needed more practice and less dates with his girlfriend because those dates were not productive at all. Della was also bleeding, the thorns got her, or did she fly right to the thorns willingly? But at least there was one gryffindor that actually was good at flying, all hail Marina. The hufflepuffs were doing great, whatever practice methods they were doing, the lions needed to step up their workout regime.

The next challenge would be the trees, they were tall and intimidating. They were not out of the woods nor in the clear yet. Hopefully they didn’t hit the brakes too soon, causing them to get twenty stitches in a hospital room.

It turned badly, was the challenge too hard or were they not competent enough? None of them succeeded which was a bit of a shame. For some of them, it’d bruise their ego more than their exterior shell. Maybe they’d feel like an old cardigan under someone’s bed, but hopefully someone would put them on and say that they were their favourite. But now that they were all out of the woods, they needed to face another vines. This time it was easy, much easier than before.

Some were flawlessly passing through the vines, some were barely passing, whilst some were caught, but their strength helped massively. This was a chaotic round where many people failed to evade the challenges. But this round was not over yet, because after this, we can see the people who chose violence.

First thing first, people could definitely see Hugh, the gryffindor’s professional thrower, blindfolded and still wanted to throw things. He didn’t seem to care about the fabric that was on top of his eyes. Maybe he wanted to test out his awesome accuracy or simply just wanted to flex. His target would be Simon. Please don't hit his face.

Even with his eyes covered, he could still hit his target as if the blindfold was nothing. He was indeed an awesome thrower, perhaps there should be a throwing championship, he’d win it easily. Simon, however, had to be in quite a lot of pain from the impact. But at least his face was still pretty as always.

Hugh was not the only racer who had violence in his heart. George, the captain of the yellow house had it too. His aim was Hugh, but this time it was not a rock he’d thrown at the gryffindor’s direction. It was a spell audible gasps

Unfortunately, George’s spell backfired, causing him to immobilise himself. But at least no one caught him for cheating because apparently, he was very very very stealthy. Last but not least, the charming Jack Warren also had something under his sleeve. It seemed like he wanted to follow Hugh’s footsteps and be a professional thrower. But his target was Nicholas. Someone would be very angry if it hit.

George had executed his cheat perfectly - his wand half-hidden and held tight to his chest, he knew he wouldn't get caught. He did feel a little bad about breaking the rules... but only as bad as Hugh had to feel about taking out poor little Athena. All was fair in love and broom racing, right? Poor blindfolded Hugh didn't stand a chance of dodging him as he held out his arm and whispered the incantation, barely audible over the hum of the stadium and the action going on ahead in the course.

"Immobulus," he murmured. He'd been focusing on Hugh for the entire race, trying not to let the presence of the half-giant and his sideburns and his big hands and cute growly voice distract him too much. After all, he'd been too shy after their interaction in charms class to follow up in pursuit of the dance he'd been owed (in his mind) since the masquerade ball. Still, he had to admit that it was hard to stop staring at him.

In fact, when he tried to pull his gaze away, he couldn't. He hadn't even put his arm down since he cast the spell. Oh my god, George thought. Even as he sat as still as a statue, he could feel his stomach turning, his cheeks turning beet red as he realized he had messed up his cast. The spell had backfired. For the first time in literally his entire wizard career, he'd done badly enough on a spell that it backfired. And it was all Hugh's fault for being so distracting! At least he was spared the embarrassment of having Hugh see it happen. The big oaf still had his blindfold on.

Things had been going well, and they still were, in a sense. By all accounts, Nicholas was winning the race. He'd broken out of the vines without much hassle, and continued to build his lead. Alas, his body ached and only ached further as damage wrecked his body. The thorns and passage were bad enough, but the collision of a projectile against the back of his skull proved the worst of it. He dared not look back, nor did he dare examine himself, for he knew that were it not for the red of his racing uniform, his blood would have stained his clothing in that same colour in any event.
