───•─•────────────────────────────────────•─•───
───•─•────────────────────────────────────•─•───It took several glasses of the cold milk to sooth the spice and abate the burn. It was silly. It hadn't even smelled that spicy, and yet she just couldn't quite overcome the bold flavour. What a disappointment. Already, the embarrassment was almost too much, the flushing of her face from the spice masking the emotional reaction beneath. Part of her just wanted to depart then and there. To bag up her humiliation and just take her leave before she had to face the other two again and whatever laughter or mockery they might throw her way...
Her stomach rumbled. She was still starving, though. And her plate of food had been left on the bench to hold her spot. Sure, the pollo algado (or whatever it was called) wasn't going to be touched again, but there were still the vegetables and potatoes that she knew would be safe for the consumption. Head lolling back, lips still parted as though trying to blow off the heat, Greta would falter, swivelling on the decision. Eventually, though, the stomach pangs would prove their point and direct her attention back to the bench.
"Ehm..." Steps faltered on her return, teeth chewing at the inside of her cheek. She would stand there a couple of seconds, debating on what to say, what excuse to give. Fingers rung themselves in the fabric of her dress with the anxious effort, but nothing would come to mind. At a loss, she would just opt for plan B: say nothing. Pretending nothing had happened was a reasonable solution, right? Picking up her plate, she would sit back down, busying herself with the safe food and avoiding eye contact with the two who sat on either side of her.
At least until another member decided to join their growing party. To the sound of a familiar voice, Greta lifted her gaze. Mid bite, she still had her fork in hand, tines trapped between lips and teeth in the process of having its little roast potato piece pulled from its grip. She paused like that, doe-eyes lifting to the boy. A moment of silence would pass, like realization sinking in slow motion. A friendly face during a spot of embarrassment seemed like too much to ask. Like the world was granting Greta an out.
"..Theo!" Greta blurted, pulling out the fork and jumping to her feet, food rolling precariously on her plate. "H-hello!" She blinked, glancing down at herself in mild confusion. She had been prepared to hug him as though he were any other member of her social circle back in Durmstrang, so glad she was in that moment to see him. Realization had, of course, dawned in that split second as she had started to rise, but too late for her to stop herself. And so she sat herself right back down again, a touch flustered. "Ehm... hello..." she repeated. "You come to camp." Of course he was coming to camp. When had he not made the trip to attend any of the international events? She gave herself a mental shake of the head, feeling just a touch whoozy. "Ehm...You are to play in Quidditch game, yes?"

As the night began to push its way through, over taking the sun and lighting up the sky in brilliant oranges, reds that bled into purples and deep navy. Stars dotted throughout the skies expanse, offering depth and some light to the otherwise pitch blackness of the night.
The BBQ was being held on top of a small hill, just sitting in the centre of the whole event. And it couldn't come soon enough, Monica could already hear her stomach crying out for sustenance. It was rather unfortunate that she was it too much of a rush getting to camp, that she never bothered to eat a proper lunch, or even partake in a small snack up until this point, but that was what she brought upon herself due to her excitement. Though now she is wishing that good sense overturned her impulsive behaviour, at least every once in a while.
It was nice to go to this opening event with friends though, or at least with the idea/hope of friends. If no one else wanted to go, it was unlikely Monica would have gone alone... Luckily it wasn't the case, and Monica was happily entering into the BBQ with her Summer Lights!
There were already several people sitting around, and mingling amongst themselves. Monica could make out some faces she recognized, but not enough to approach.
The wafting of the food filled the air, embracing all of Monica's senses, she could hardly wait to eat, and the smells made her stomach more impatient. Kiwi, who had been nestled in Monica's hair until now, poked her head out, taking in the smells.
"Ah, no." Monica stroked the top head of the rat, "You will be patient just like me. First thing is first, where to sit?"
Locating a vacant table, Monica turned to the group, "Well if we all want to sit together, there is a free spot over there, but it's also totally fine if you guys want to find some of your friends to sit with too." Unsure if her tent mates wanted to all sit together or not, but Monica felt it was more polite to offer people to sit where ever they so chose. However Monica was done waiting for food.
After claiming a spot for herself at the table, she made her way over to get a much desired meal.
There were so many choices, it was near imposable to pick, though based on her current state, the feeling was that she could eat it all and still be hungry.
She took one glance at the flobberworm stew, "I have never heard of that before, nor do I have any idea what it is...."
"Yes can I get some flobberworm stew please!" She turned to Kiwi, "Well might as well try something new, embrace the culture... in a way."
After receiving her meal, she took to the table to eat.

As Bubba was watching Greta off in the distance, on what he thought must've been her third or fourth glass of milk, he had a weird feeling that he couldn't place. He thought it was absolutely ridiculous that someone couldn't handle a little spice but he also thought it was endearing in a strange way, almost.. cute? It was a new experience for him and he packed it away to process later. He was glad he'd looked away when he had these thoughts because he was brought back to the moment by Greta returning with a soft noise. She was very flustered and he didn't want her to feel self-conscious. "If it makes you feel any better, the English can't handle spices either." He said in what he hoped was an encouraging way but he was immediately concerned that it came off wrong. He was suddenly flustered himself, and for seemingly no reason. He did his best to hide it.
He was saved by the bell in the form of another boy coming to join their group. This was a boy he'd never seen before but he certainly wasn't about to be rude, "Not at all," he said as he appraised the boy. He had nicely kept brown hair and a pretty fair complexion, he spoke with an accent that was American but could tell he didn't come from anywhere near Boston.
He was happy to meet another American, people that reminded him of home always lifted his spirits. He loved it at Hogwarts and he didn't mind living in Ireland, but he missed his real home. He missed going to Red Sox games and watching Patriots games on the TV every Sunday in the fall. It had been a major adjustment for him. He wondered how some of the other people, not just from America but all over the world felt being so far away from home even for a month.
It became instantly clear that Greta knew the boy, half jumping to her feet and greeting him as Theo. She was clearly still embarrassed and very flustered. He guessed based on her broken English greeting that he was on the Ilvermorney quidditch team. "Nice to meet you Theo, I'm Bubba." He said with his somewhat Boston-lite accent.

It was the first day of the summer camp and sure enough, Pea is already tired of it. As predicted, the blue-eyed spends most of her time in the tent, away from everyone. She'd lay in the small dingy bunk bed, either reading some books she brought or sketching something. Most people from her tent are away doing some kind of activities outside, but for her, getting dirty and all that is so... not her style. So she'd rather cooped inside this ghastly tent for the rest of the month, rather than get down and dirty doing some of those ratchet activities.
But after a while, her stomach does make a little noise, alarming her that she is growing a little famished. As she got outside, she realized the sun was already setting and she could visibly the stars illuminating the tents around the stadium. She notices noises coming from the middle of the field and took a walk there. The smells of roasted meats started to enter her nose. "Gross-" She uttered quietly. Meats are something that she does not gravitate towards when it comes to food. She usually preferred vegetarian or gluten-free meals on her diet, but she doesn't seem to spot any of that options- well that is surely not surprising. She nearly threw up when she notices the giant vats of Flobberworm stew splattered on the table.
Pea decides to grab some fruit juice and leaves the crowd for a little to take a breather. She scanned the place from afar- to see if she notices familiar faces that she can annoy. But none sadly- wait- she saw a sudden streak of blonde hair passes her. A girl with a familiar face had just entered the scene. She is tall- well as tall as her at least, and pretty decent-looking. Which somehow annoyed her a little. Should she say hi to the little birdie? She might be fun to tease. But first, the white-haired prepared herself to make a grandiose entrance.
"Ehem- Barlowe is it? you might remember me- well you should remember me, my... good looks are hardly forgettable. But on the off chance you have an awful memory, I'm Pea. Pea Elena Fowl." She said with her regular pompous tone.

Where others came for the food, Dealla Prince attended the annual welcome BBQ with the goal to socialise. Also, to eat good food. There wasn't any reason why she couldn't be doing both at the same time, after all.
Meeting her new tent companions had been... interesting, she supposed, but the air in that tent had been so chock-full of tension that even Dee had struggled to ignore it, so after a while she'd left, looking for greener pastures with more people and possible future acquaintances. And food, of course. All those international students that came to visit several times a year and somehow Dee had managed to barely talk to any of them so far. That was about to change, however.
A plate laden with a wild variety of food - mushrooms and sausages and potatoes, half an apple, some grilled halloumi and a sauce of which she wasn't quite sure what it was or where it originated - in hand, Dealla slipped through between groups of chatting students, trying to pinpoint who looked most entertaining, pardon, interesting to talk to.
Her eyes locked onto a student who seemed vaguely familiar - maybe she had seen him during the last ball or something? - and her steps became more purposeful, target in sight. He seemed lonely. Probably needed rescuing. Except then a guy of one of the nearby groups, about a head taller than Dee, suddenly took a step backwards, bumping into her hard enough that she went stumbling to the side.
It was a mystery where all her agility went in moments like this, that hard acquired nimbleness that let her dance out of the way of spells in duels like it was nothing. None of it was visible now, when she instead tripped over her own feet, and could suddenly watch the ground approach her face at an alarming speed.
Some of her instincts still seemed to work, at least, when she dropped her plate of food to grab hold of whatever was nearest. Not to save face or any part of her dignity (if such a thing existed), but because last time she had taken a tumble like this at a summer camp event, she'd ended up cutting her hand open on a broken bottle of glass on the ground.
Her fingers managed to hold onto something and her fall was stopped before she hit the ground, fingers digging into whatever handhold she had found. She seemed to be awkwardly half-lying on something, too. A bench? Letting out a breath of relief, Dee opened her eyes, looking up to notice that the something she was hanging onto was actually a who, but he had broken her fall all the same. Taller, probably older, definitely no one she'd seen at Hogwarts. There were two girls sitting nearby, too, a conversation she was probably interrupting.
Well. It appeared that fate had chosen for her who she was meant to socialise with, so who was she to protest? Tilting her head to one side, she gave the group a bright smile, completely unapologetic. "Hello! Sorry to interrupt, I guess." And where had her food gone?

Wherever there was food, Bea could be found. It usually meant there was something to do, and at least have some starting conversation about, instead of standing by yourself with absolutely nothing to do.
Since it was the first day of camp, Bea wasn't quite sure about other people. She'd left her only friend, (at this point) Hilda in the tent, the other girl wanting to unpack or something, which Bea thought was quite fair from the day they'd had. She'd come with her new tentmates, a rambunctious group of girls. She smiled as Monica claimed a spot at the table, inviting them all over. Bea's stomach growled at the look at all of the food, reminding her that it too was in need of food. Smiling at the atmosphere, really it was like the Great Hall at Hogwarts only outdoors.
"Yeah, sounds like a plan." She grinned at Monica, joining her at the table she had just claimed. She wasn't sure if the others would join or not, since Bea was sure they all had friends in other circles. She watched as Monica grabbed a bowl of flobberworm stew to eat, and Bea crinkled her nose. Ew. No thank you. "I might try something a bit...plainer." Grabbing a plate of bread and some grilled meat, the girl set about eating. She glanced longingly at the ice-cream station. That was what she really wanted. Her sweet tooth was already kicking in. Thankfully Ma had taught her to eat something of sustenance before dessert. She turned to the table, hoping to strike up a conversation and to get to know the others. "What's your favourite ice-cream flavour?"

As she waited for the reaction she saw everytime, she listened to Bubba speaking. She snorted with a burst of laughter at the other meaning of his name. "you should tell people the second meaning more, I think it's cool. " she looked at bubba without an a hint of a joke in her words. Something about bubba, he just gave off funny obnoxious vibes that Reena actually didnt hate.
While she was distracted she nearly missed the reaction. She turned switfly to the girl as she fell silent, watching her face go a bit pink. "woah woah, its not that spicy, you okay?" she glanced at bubba, who was calmly eating, then back at the girl. The girl muttered 'spicy' and stood up. As bubba commented, she looked at him while struggling to hide a smile. "Youre right. And its totally not funny. I shouldnt find it funny. " she looked down at her food and fought her smile.
She looked up again and saw the girl chugging milk, and she felt a tad bit bad. She felt like a pretty crappy person right now. "I should have at least warned you guys, you had no way of knowing." she wished to explain that her family laughed at those who were weak with spices, but she knew it would sound mean. Her family was not mean.
The girl sat back down and Reena forced a smile. "some spanish foods are actually pretty spicy. Its a wonder you lasted that long. " She tried to sound comforting. Not true, she's seen guests last the entire meal because they didnt want to appear rude, but then run to the fridge right away.
At that moment, another boy came over. Reena looked up, totally getting used to this thing called socializing. She could be social for tonight. She could try. "oh, uh, -" she looked around, quickly trying to calculate how close they had to sit for the boy to sit. The boy, however, sat on the ground. "hi." she said. It appeared that the girl knew the boy, which meant they were most likely from the same school. Cool.

Outfit: x Adelaide walked to the BBQ with the rest of her tentmates, all of them agreeing to go to the BBQ together earlier in their tent. She didn't bother changing her clothes or anything, there was really no point in doing that. All she had done was freshen up after a long day on the train and settling into her tent before her stomach had demanded that it needed some delicious food. She didn't say much as she followed Monica towards a table, nodding as the girl suggested they can all sit together. Adelaide was just incredibly hungry and needed to get food into her stomach right now, so she made her way over to grab herself some food.
When she arrived, the aroma of an assortment of delicious, different food from all over the world made her mouth water. She didn't know what to choose, if she should choose something different to expand her taste or if she should stick to something she knew and loved. After a moment of contemplation, she decided on the latter, not wanting to risk trying something new and hating it when she was this famished. She could always go back and grab something unfamiliar to her later. "Could I have some sausages and mash please?" She asked the house elves, smiling kindly at them and saying her thanks as they handed her the plate. She then decided on a bottle of pumpkin juice to wash it all down.
The blonde turned around, aiming to make her way back to the table her tentmates were sitting at before she heard someone call her name. She turned around to be greeted with a girl that she vaguely recognized, yet couldn't quite place a name to her face. The white haired girl was eerily pretty, almost unnaturally pretty that it was unnerving. "Yes?" Adelaide raised an eyebrow at her, her back straightening at the girl's tone. Well, this girl was definitely vain. "No, actually, I can't quite remember your name," she couldn't help but smirk as she said it, sounding quite smug as if she had won a silent battle with this girl by not knowing her name, "I do not have an awful memory though, maybe you just weren't important enough to earn a spot in my memory, Pea." The blonde shrugged as much as she could with a plate in one hand and a bottle of pumpkin juice in the other.
Who does this girl think she is? And why did she come over to Adelaide of all people? All she wanted to do was enjoy her meal, but that didn't seem likely in her current situation.

After getting to know her tent mates a little better, Eliza made her to the BBQ together with the other students from her tent. She followed the girls, mindlessly fidgeting with her bracelet, as her eyes scanned her surroundings. On top of the small hill stood multiple tables with food and drinks from which many of the students, most unknown to the blonde, were already eating. A little smile appeared on her face when she noticed the precious little face of Monica's rat peek through the dark hair, the little creature was absolutely adorable.
With Monica's mention of friends, Elizaveta shyly looked at the ground as she didn't have any friends present at summer camp, which wasn't a big surprise as she didn't have many friends anyways. "I will sit with you," she shared before claiming a seat next to Monica. The reason she wanted to sit next to the girl was that she would be able to play with the other girl's pet if she would allow it. Her parents would find it horrible if they would figure out that she was playing with an animal while having dinner but she didn't care about it. It wasn't like they would find out anyway as they weren't here, nor were her brothers.
When presented with the wide range of food to pick from, Eliza glanced at what the other girls had picked to eat and decided to take the same as Adelaide. Monica's pick, flobberworms, had received a little comment from Beatrice and the Russian girl didn't like the idea of having somebody commenting on her food, so today wasn't the day for flobberworms. "I take same as her," she would say after Adelaide received her food.
While waiting on her food, she nervously fidgeted with her bracelet, and only when the plate was handed to her did she stop fidgeting with the bracelet. However, the bracelet wasn't made as a fidget and without Eliza noticing it, it broke and slipped off her wrist. Unaware of the golden bracelet laying on the ground, she took her plate and started to walk to her table.
Her parents had thought her that it was terribly rude not to reply to a question directly asked to her so she wasn't going to ignore Bea's question she just needed to think of the answer first causing her to be quiet for a moment. "I like the one like Peppermint Toad," she answered. "You?"

Big Annual BBQ
⠀ [ august 1, 2022 ] ✦ interacting with Elizaveta Mikhailov @Samantha Salwis
It was the first day of summer camp and Esme... was stressed. Like usual. But today it was at least 10 times worse, because...
It was the first day of summer camp.
When she'd first heard about it, the fact that Hogwarts ran a month long camp over the summer, Esme had been convinced she wasn't going. Then she decided she was, after a talk with her aunt... and now she was convinced it was a bad idea after all. Her tent had been fine, but she hadn't stayed long enough to have much of a conversation with the other members before leaving to take a walk and explore the place. Not that she had anything against her tent mates, but she'd felt more like sitting down somewhere and sketching for a bit than actually having any human interaction. No different than usual, really, was it?
So she'd spent most of the morning walking around by herself, pausing here or there to sketch for a bit, maybe have one or two very short conversations with another student as she passed by. Nothing more than a quick greeting and a couple sentences—by then, she'd realized how stupid she must sound, gotten anxious, and hurriedly escaped.
It was late into the afternoon hours of the day now, and Esme remembered hearing about the barbeque. Apparently it was an annual thing, a favorite event that happened each summer, and at this point it was probably well underway. She didn't recall having been told a specific time, but had seen lots of campers heading towards a hill a little ways above the tents. So, after a few minutes of consideration, the gryffindor got up and went that way as well.
Finding the right place wasn't hard. Laughter and chatter, as well as the delicious smell of food, led her to the spot where everyone was gathered. After grabbing a plate of food herself, Esme looked around and took a deep breath, unsure of where to sit. She didn't think any of her tentmates were here yet—if they were, she couldn't see them—and didn't recognize anyone else at the moment. But thankfully, she was saved from focusing too much on that problem when she spotted something shiny laying on the grass.
It turned out to be a gold bracelet. Looking up, Esme attempted to locate the owner... and her gaze fell on one of the girls she'd passed just a few seconds ago. Maybe she could start with her, see if it was hers? And if not, she was talking to a few other girls. Hopefully it was one of theirs, at least. Taking another quick breath, Esme walked over, bracelet in her hand. "Hello, um, is this yours?"
