Fionnuala sits at the counter of the leaky cauldron, she wears a large striped sweater and baggy cargo pants with beat-up blue converse, turning a sort of brown with overuse. She snacks on a bit of soup while reading "Quidditch through the ages". Suddenly out of boredom she shuts her book and tosses it back into her satchel. Her foot taps on the floor and she picks up the last of her soup and drinks it down. Leaving a sickle on the table she heads back towards the door quite fast, she turns back suddenly, looking as if she has forgotten something, and without looking bumps right into a column and falls right smack on the floor, while in the process of falling, her things tumble out of her bag. She takes a second to gather her confidence and rubs her head a bit, looking at her hand for blood. Luckily it seems to have only bruised so she gets onto her knees and begins to pick up her things. All you can see is a tiny flower- no - two tiny flowers, originally wrapped in a hankercheif, but has since fallen from their resting place, a small writing quill, 2 books, one looking to be quidditch through the ages, and one you cant quite figure out the title, as its aged and flaking off. And lastly, a small watercolor set. As she takes her back off of her shoulder to start loading her things back in, she notices a large emerald splotch on the bag. Her face drops. She then carefully opens the satchel and takes out half an inkwell. Broken in the fall you think. She then takes the bag with one hand and drops it into the bin. Fi attemps to salvage her belongings and haul them back to the castle in her hand but has trouble trying not to ruin the flowers. This is when she notices you watching the events unfold and looks very embarrassed.

Nico had just been quietly reading the Daily Prophet when a girl about his age made quite a scene. Enjoying a nice cup of tea, Nico had just finished taking a short walk around Diagon Alley and had sat down only moments ago, when he hears a loud thud and turns around to see a girl his age on the floor.
She had very rudely walked into the column right behind him, made a loud racket of cleaning up her stuff, and when she saw Nico stare she seemed to have not noticed the fact that she had interrupted his reading. Normally Nico would've just continued with his reading and not given it a second thought. But he was slightly intrigued by this girl, and he decided to give her a few moments of his time. He looked at her, she had dark curly hair and dark skin, and she was a tad bit taller than Nico. He looked down and noticed he had a small splatter of ink on his shoe, and then looked at her, and she had a splatter of ink... well everywhere. "It's always the shimmering people that make messes, never the ones who don't touch anything... I bet more than anything she's a muggle-born. They're so new to all this, they always are the ones who cause chaos, or mess something up." he thought to himself.
Recently, Nico's mom had told him to be "social," whatever that means. So he thought he'd give this messy girl a try.
"Hi, um... you have ink on your face, and hands... and everywhere. Uh, I'm Nico Cirillo."

Fionnuala had not seen him at first, a boy, her age she thinks probably a first year, with a mop of messy curls and very slender features. He look a bit like a ghost at first and she had not noticed where the voice was coming from. He was about an inch shorter than her but gave the impression that it was not entirely normal for him to be speaking to people... any people really.
She shot her hand out to shake his but took it back after a moment when she noticed the dark ink on her fingertips. As she brushed off her hands on the worn pants she was wearing she noticed the ink on his shoes and her face turned a dark shade of Burgandy."Oh um- I - sorry, yeah I saw that... I um... sorry- Nico."
in a split second she was back down on the floor examining the damage she had done. How clumsy can a person be? "I am so sorry about this, maybe you can scrub it out! Well... I guess you could ask a professor" When she saw his face she noticed a sort of cool kindness about him, she was intrigued... Have I just made a friend?"oh no."
"Oh, I forgot, My name is Fionnuala. You can call me Fi if you'd like."

@Fionnuala VeerMaybe Nico could try having a friend for once, even if she had just spilled ink on his shoe, and ruined his reading time.
Nico looked down at his shoe again, "Oh, um, it's alright, I guess. I can clean it off later."
Fionnuala. That was her name, Fionnuala, Fi for short.
Definitely not a pure-blood. Names like that usually belong to muggle-borns. Muggles make up dumb names a lot. "Muggle-born or not, I should at least give socialization a try. 'At least once,' that's what mom said. I have to try it at least once. Just make one friend, just one. How hard can that be? Probably really hard..."
"So, do you usually go around meeting people by running into things, and making messes? Because it seems to be quite effective," he said, trying out a smile.
Feeling a little awkward, he began fiddling and spinning the silver rings on his fingers. His mom had just recently bought him those rings, they were goblin made, a parting gift for when he was to leave for Hogwarts.
"Um, so, here you go," he muttered, handing Fionnuala some napkins to clean off the ink from her hands and also uh.... everywhere.

She took the napkins and began wiping her hands and arms, she felt something wet run down her cheek and her eyes widened. She then started viciously scrubbing at her face making sure the ink had been cleared, but there was still a dark green streak just past her lip. After she knew there was nothing else to be done to clean up she looked back to Nico and noticed a rather large silver ring on his index finger with an inscription on it- goblin she thought to herself."oh, thank you."
She noticed that this was rather unnecessary information and regretted saying it. she looked over at the teacup he was drinking from and saw light little white and pink flowers coating the bottom of the cup, hibiscus, maybe."my father wears a ring like that, I'm not sure how he got it, he went on a trip to the ministry to see my sister and came back with it on his finger..."
"What are you reading?"

@Fionnuala VeerNico shifted his weight from one foot to the other, Fionnuala spoke quickly, and to the point. He admired that, Nico hated when people would drag on and on with nonsense tiny details that are completely useless.
"Just the Daily Prophet, some dumb article about a recent werewolf attack on some muggle," he said with a sigh. The Prophet had been writing about any and every small story they could find.
Nico looked at her, Fionnuala had a streak of ink just past her bottom lip.
He chuckled.
The sound of laughter seemed unfamiliar coming from him. Nico rarely laughed. Rarely meaning never. "I do NOT laugh, so why did I just do it?? What is wrong with me? There was nothing even remotely funny happening... It doesn't matter, what do I care about what this girl thinks of me?"
Nico began spinning his ring around his finger. The ring was shaped like a snake, spiraling around his finger, with his father's favorite quote engraved on it.
"Shape the world, don't let it shape you."
Nico was very close to his father, he still grieved about it.
Thinking about his father, a silent tear rolled down his cheek, noticing this, Nico wiped it away and stood up straight.
He cleared his throat, "So, your sister works at the Ministry?"

She smiled at his laughter, and a little chuckle escaped her too. He had a very contagious smile which, she imagined is a very rare thing to experience.
Werewolves, one thing I know little about... full moon, brothers turn on brothers, sisters on sisters, and death marches past them through every month. She wondered why the prophet would be writing about them, rather insignificant in comparison to the muggle-born attacks going on a bit more frequently now and again. She glanced at the paper, and then back to Nico. Nico, she hadn't really processed his name yet, one she had heard only once before, in a book... what book was it?
She glanced over at the half-folded newspaper, there seemed to be a pink tea stain at the top right corner in the shape of a circle. Oh so it was hibiscus.
As she spoke she noted the slenderness of his features, almost sickly looking, but in a strangely beautiful way. It reminded her of her sister a bit, although I imagine his cheekbones are genetic, while hers are purely stress-induced. As she admired his facial structure, she noticed what seemed to be the remnants of a tear... probably not though, perhaps sweat ."Yes actually, Auror, enjoys it quite a bit- I think, I've only ever been to the ministry once, It was when I was very young though, don't remember much."

@Fionnuala Veer"A few times... My dad was the Head of the Auror Office, before he, um, died..." Nico muttered. He looked anywhere but her eyes.
"I am NOT crying. Not here, not now, not ever," he told himself.
Nico managed an unconvincing half hearted smile, "It was a long time ago, I hardly remember anything about it."
Lie.
He remembered everything about it.
The day his dad was supposed to come home, one of the Aurors from his office came to the door. When Nico answered the door, he knew something had happened. The grim look on the Auror's face, and the all black clothing seemed too dark. Within five minutes, Nico's childhood innocence and happiness disappeared.
Memories came flashing back to Nico as he stood there, another tear rolling down his cheek brought him back to reality, cursing to himself, he wiped it away hoping Fionnuala hadn't noticed anything.
"So, um... I saw you reading Quidditch Through the Ages, are you into Quidditch? Or was the reading just for fun?" He asked, hoping to change the subject from his dad.
He wiped off the ink from his shoe.
Stained.
Definitely a Muggle-born, they always are the ones who make the messes.

She paused- He's crying, why is he crying? It couldn't have been me, I didn't say anything- oh, his dad.. She wanted to give him a minute to calm down, so she decided now was the time to talk a little more than usual.
She stopped herself before any more damage could be done. my father- I am such an IDIOT she noticed that yet another tear had rolled down his cheek, she was surprised and confused. Before she could think what to do her arms were around him and she was squeezing him tight. A hug, and a long one. She opened her eyes in amazement and retracted the hug. Looking very embarrassed she said simply"Well I'm not a particularly sporty person you know, haha, I just really enjoy the history behind it, did you know the snitch used to be a bird? How weird is that? I read a lot, usually just to get my mind blank, but most of it is history. I'm really interested in botany, for medicinal purposes you know, I'm so excited for Herbology, I really think I'll enjoy is. My father is actually interested in muggle medicine, but sometimes I wonder a bit why he cares-"
"sorry"

@Fionnuala VeerShe had hugged him.
No. Nope. The end. Nico was done.
"She hugged me. No. She didn't just touch me, she hugged me. Nope, I'm done. Socializing is bad. I'm done. I don't need friends, who needs friends? Not me! Time to leave."
Nico stood there, shocked, embarrassed, offended, uncomfortable, and petrified.
"Who the fu- no. Stupid people. Why the hell did she just hug me?!" Nico's thoughts fired off at a rapid speed, a million miles per hour.
He might have been standing there for hours, completely shook. He looked at her, murder and respect in his eyes.
"N-no... Just- just no," he managed to utter, still in painful shock.
He didn't leave like his mind wanted him to, because, in some way, he found her presence... unnaturally necessary.
Nico rarely even hugged his own mother, let alone some girl he just met. He took a step back, slipped in a puddle of ink, and fell causing a hundred people to turn his way and stare. He blushed (another very rare occurrence) and stood up, ink on his hands and clothes.
Cursing to himself, he muttered to Fionnuala, "You missed a spot. How do you make a mess this big from ONE inkwell?"
