A Moment For Us

iNPC Miles Thatcher taking a moment with @Sienna Lenoir's inpc Olive Adair
When the name was called and announced by their own Headmaster, Miles Thatcher just looked forward, maybe blinking once or twice but making no other movements. There was no acknowledgement that he was enlightened by the announcement but also none that he was disappointed or afraid. There were murmurs all around him, or at least that's what he processed them as, and as their voice seemed to grow in volume and he was brought back to reality, he snatched Olive's hand and pulled her out of the Great Hall and into the corridor.
"Olive. Olive. Olive!" he said, his hand still in hers as he led her down the hall. He stopped and turned quickly to face her. "They said my name. They said...... they said MY name and they said, they said YOUR name and they said, they said OUR names."
Wow, was he rambling or was he rambling?
Miles let go of her hand and brought both of his hands up to each side of his head and ran it through his hair a moment and then let it set in. "I hope it was okay," he felt calmer now that he was out of the room and just with her. He could focus better. Sometimes (more like most times) he could get a little dramatic. "I hope it was okay that I put your name down." He was afraid to say it outloud that he put her down as his special person.

Dancing with Miles had been much more enjoyable than she had thought. It wasn't that she hadn't wanted to dance with him, because she had very much, she had been worried that she would make a clumsy fool of herself. After a happily non-hazardous dance, Olive had found her heart fluttering in her chest. She was happier than ever that Miles had asked her to the dance.
Now, after hearing his name called for Ilvermorny champion, he pulled her out into the corridor. He seemed to be in absolute shock from hearing his name called. He didn't even seem to notice that his hand was entwined with hers. "Miles, I'm so happy for you!" she exclaimed. "I know you'll make Ilvermorny proud." She didn't say it out loud, but inwardly she thought that he might even win the whole tournament.
He let go of her hand and calmed down a bit, but she could still see the joy on his face. "Of course it is okay. I'm honored you put my name down," she replied with a smile reflecting his energy. The night had been full of good times and even better memories, and the best part was that she had shared the night with him.
"Thanks for teaching me to dance by the way. Quite an occupational hazard for you though, I was a bit worried for your safety," she joked. Saying this made Olive think of how
the tournament would be anything but safe for Miles. Someone had died the last time, and yet they thought the tournament was still a good idea. She really was happy for him, but at the same time she worried for him.

"I would reassure you and say that I'm pretty sure no one has ever died from dancing but then again, someone probably unfortunately has," he smiled over to her, not smiling because of the unfortunate ones that might have died, but that he was trying to make light of her lack of dance skills situation. In all honesty though, she had grown by strides in that category during their time together. They began just days after agreeing to attend the dance together back at Ilvermorny.
Miles took a step near the corridor wall and leaned his back against it, then bringing his head back to do the same. Hexwizard Tournament. Ilvermorny Champion. "I thought I'd be too young. I didn't think I'd really have a chance at being chosen." This feeling sort of reminded him of when he first really took the time to start talking to Olive. She was there in all this fog across the roll of the land around the Ilvermorny school grounds and here she was in all this fog of the moment with the goblet choosing his name to represent his school. Would he be enough? No, he couldn't think such thoughts. The goblet had chosen him. He WAS enough.
"Guess this Summer I'll have to bulk up both physically and with my wizarding skills," he said and smiled to her. "Give those other schools a force to be reckoned with."
Miles then smiled at Olive and watched her. From her hair to her smile to her dress she had chosen, she looked absolutely perfect that evening. "Miss Adair, might we have one more dance? It can be your final examination. No stress or anything, just to see if you can pull it off without anyone to cheat off of." He smiled at calling her Miss Adair as if he was one of the professors, but hey, he sort of was - her professor for dance.

She smiled softly at his assessment that someone probably had died from dancing. “Whoever might have died from dancing, well, I can safely say I can sympathize with them.” At least the short dance with Miles had gone pretty well for the most part. She admittingly had stumbled a few times, but other than that she had done quite well for starting out with zero dance skills.
He seemed to be in shock, still processing his admission as the Ilvermorny champion. “How could you not have been picked? It doesn’t matter your age. You are probably braver and more intelligent than any of the others who put their names in, not to be rude to them of course.” Olive was a bit biased, but she really did think all that to be true. “The goblet picked you for a reason,” she reminded him.
She smiled as he spoke about the summer. “You already are a force to be reckoned with,” she said quietly under her breath. There was no way that he would not be fully able to beat any one of the other champions, on any given day.
“A final examination?” she repeated. ”I don’t know,” she teased. Then, in all seriousness, she said,“Well then, may I have this dance?” She held out a hand for him. Looking into his eyes, she realized something startling. Could she be falling for Miles Thatcher?

A Moment For Us

Sharing a private dance with Olive Adair, @Sienna Lenoir
He brought his hand to hers and his other hand to her waist. While they were out in the corridors of the school, they could still hear the music filtering from the Hall. There were some students leaving, but luckily they all seeemed to be headed to their dormitories or the Grounds which yielded them the other direction.
Miles was grateful of the confidence that she had in him, although he was yet to fully feel it himself. He gave her a smile in appreciation for it before stepping closer, closing the gap between them. Before they began to move back and forth, he leaned his head down and gently kissed the top of her head. It was reassuring to know that she placed faith in him, and despite the two not knowing each other as well as he would have liked, she did know him from the Quidditch Pitch and being in the same house and all.
"You don't need to feel obligated to go. I mean, I guess I should have asked before placing you down as my special person but uhh....I don't get too close to many and I enjoyed our short times together so I thought - I thought that we had more of a connection." Granted it was filled with talk of sketchbooks and dancing mostly, but everything with all the other Thunderbirds and others was just so superficial that he felt he really hadn't gotten to know anyone. Much of his free time was devoted to his studies, because Merlin help him if he didn't bring home top grades.

────────────────────Olive felt Miles’s hand slip into hers as they began to sway back and forth slowly to the music from the Great Hall. As they were dancing together, the rest of the world seemed to slip away from them and she got caught up in the dance. She smiled softly as she felt his lips brush her head.
It was amusing in a way, to think that the two had only known each other from Quidditch and occasional passings in the common room and one early foggy morning was all it took for them to get to know each other and decide to go to the ball together. Some things seemed to happen so fast there was no time to thoroughly think it through. Some things just happened for a reason.
”Hey,” she said as Miles started worrying. “I’m glad I’m your special person, and of course I’m going to go. How could I not?” she smiled up at him. “I’ve enjoyed our time together too, more than you know.” It was a touching moment for her, and she didn’t think anything in the whole entire world could spoil it now.
He spoke of feeling a connection between the two of them, and Olive knew exactly what he meant. She knew several people, and she always wanted to make new friends, but something about Miles was just… different. A Moment For Us

Last moments with Olive Adair, @Sienna Lenoir
It felt good to hear that she too enjoyed their time together. Sometimes he wondered if he didn't hold some bothersome sort of personality that drove people away - like his parents. I mean, there had to be something about him that was negative that caused them to not want to spend time with him. Sure, he could see when he was younger and how he couldn't keep up with their travels as much but now that he was older, if they loved him, if they enjoyed his presence, he would go with them - right?
Miles smiled to her and then stepped back closer so they could be close once more for their dance. He wasn't good with talking to the opposite gender, he wasn't good with figuring out his feelings, he wasn't good with any of this sort of thing, but at least they were on the same page or close to it.
"MILES!" he heard someone shout from down the hall. "Man, you got this!" and there was a huge group of Ilvermorny students coming their way, all shouting and being loud. Most of them were Thunderbirds and it seemed the entire house Quidditch team was there as they came rushing him to congratulate him, a few poking fun at Olive being his 'special person.' He just smiled and looked over to Olive with an apologetic look because it seemed this no longer was a moment just for them.
Thread finished.
OOC Note: Let's make a new thread with them though bringing them into the new school year! I just want to get them up to current time!
