Freaky Brain Freeze Abandoned

The area wasn’t nearly as crowded as his aunt had feared. Apparently, the little surprise shower on Thursday had scared off a lot of people off from bothering with the amusement park, not totally surprising. Everyone had instead flocked to the beach just down the way, the cool sea breeze making its way even down the less used backstreets.

Luckily they weren’t here for the beach today. Nor the rides, although, at this rate with the thinning crowds among the parks games and rides, they just might end up attending. Natalie at least seemed to think they should.

Might as well play a few of the games and enjoy some of the rides with the short lines.” She’d said upon all of them arriving via apparition. The woman had volunteered to take them, “The corn dogs call to me.” Being her excuse. Elsian just thought she wanted an excuse to go to the beach over staying at the house. “We’ll meet back here at 6 and decide if we’re ready to go or wanna try the park then. Don’t be too late, now if you’ll excuse me,” she shouldered the bag she’d brought, flipping the heart shaped sunglasses over her eyes, “I’m going to enjoy the sun.

Flirt you mean,” he’d sassed, from his spot leaning against the wall. “Hey!” He yelped, shoving at Natalie's hands when she got her vengeance, hands aggressively ruffling his hair, “Nat!” He whined, squirming away from his aunt to Henry's side as if the other teen could protect him.

Brat.” She insulted fondly. She began walking, “6 o’clock!” She called over her shoulder.

Got it! 7 o’clock!

Haha, funny. 6! Better not be late you brats!

C’mon,” Elsi began, leading the way down the board walk towards a small side street, “I know a shortcut to the arcade.

Said shortcut was going down a small side street before leading their tiny group down an even tinier alleyway leading behind some of the main tourist shops. It was a bit of a walk, but in the end it was definitely shorter than walking the main road would have, with much less foot traffic seeing as how…no one else was really using the alleyways save for a few odd teens also resting by the opening of the alley to hide in the shade it offered.

Escaping the alleyway they came to one of the shop streets. Instantly they were met with the sounds of the crowds, luckily it was too crowded. It was far more bearable than the main boardwalk had been at the very least.

They arrived at the arcade. Elsian peered at Henry as they paused by the corner, a bit outta sight. “Got Loki hidden?

~ 𓋒 ~

Time had flew by while in the arcade. It’d been around noon when they arrived, between mini breaks for food and the games when they’d finally pooled their tickets for the prize booth it’d already been 2:30. Looking through the shops and already over an hour had passed just from walking around and pausing long enough to enjoy the breeze while looking at the ocean. Now it was already somewhere around 4:20.

Where had the time gone?

Now they were looking for a place to rest, maybe have some ice cream. Elsian knew just the place.

Scoops Ahoy.

They walked up the side walkway to the shop, tucked in a corner of the shopping area. It was a simple but nice ice cream parlor, imitating that of a sailor theme. It wasn’t the shop's interior that mattered though. No. What had Elsian bring his friend to the shop was the killer freak shakes and ice cream monstrosities the place served up. A poster, bright and obnoxious, matching the shop's theme colors caught his attention just before they could walk inside. Elsian paused, looking it over. A challenge. They were doing a challenge. 1 hour to finish one of the new group sundaes they had for the summer, only groups of 4 and below, losers had to pay the $67. Winners ate free and got a gift card each. That was insane.

He checked his wallet.

……He could pay if they lost.

Henry.” He began, voice dead serious. “Henry,” he tugged at the boy's sleeve to grab his attention, pointing at the poster, “Henry we gotta try and win.” The Gryffindor shook the Slytherins arm, “please, please, please, please.

Staying with his brother that holiday meant Henry is able to visit friends more easily than he would have if he was at his father's house with the stepfamily.

The teen would be returning to his brother's apartment later that day but currently he stood at a fairground, backpack over his shoulders which held his beloved digital camera. Besides the camera, his mischievous yet loveable feline; Loki.

Henry kept off to the side a bit, keeping to himself as he watched Elsian with his aunt. A part of him wishing for those moments with relatives, the ones he never experienced, the teen brought his eyes up toward the sky. It had cleared up quite a bit since the recent rain that chased majority of the visitors there away, his eyes have been watching the passing clouds when he felt Elsian's pull of him as a human shield.

His attention turned back to the aunt-nephew pair. The teen smiling softly at their banter, taking a mental note of 6 o'clock even if Elsian repeatedly stated 7. The teen figured he shouldn't be late, his brother would be meeting him at the Cox house later.

When Elsian's aunt left, the teen heard the words of a shortcut to the arcade. Less walking around large groups sounded nice to the lad as he spoke"a shortcut sounds nice but there better actually be one, Elsi," the teen took to following Elsian down what was short both in steps and arm room.

A rather tight alleyway to a even tighter alleyway. The teen thought of complaining about the shortcut but figured it would provide no use to a sufficient outcome, the teen would find the arcade come into view. Comfortable or not, the shortcut did bring them to the arcade.

"Hidden in my bag," Henry replied to Loki being hidden, the feline stuck his nose out a crack of the bag. Sniffing the air.

The time tick away. The teen found himself focused on the games, studying them before playing. Repeating playing certain games till he won, waiting till he was ready to play, the teen wanted to ensure they would earn the maximum tickets that they could that day.

Through snack breaks and arcade games, the time tick away. Flying. It felt only a few minutes passed when hours did. Their ticket pile looked rather impressive, the teen would trade his half in for a few prizes ranging from small to medium in size. A small stuffed lion that would have been thrown at Elsian, a small stuffed duck, and a small stuff yellow creature being Pikachu that Henry didn't know what it was. The prizes, the two Henry won would be neatly placed into his own bag.

The teen would have a few tickets have, choosing to go with the massive stuff gorilla that spanned to about five feet in width and three feet in height. Henry posed a joke earlier about what if one of them won that massive thing and how they would even carry it, now trading in his tickets for the creature that he thought would go to either Elsian or Avery.

Looking through shops, occasionally spending a coin for a item or two. Going along the beach, the day turned out to be rather eventful and exciting even with the morning rain.

When, Elsian spoke of ice-cream and knowing a parlor. The teen agreed, following the gryffindor for the lively colors of Scoops Ahoy. A sailor themed ice-cream shop.

The teen followed the lad, pulling open the door to escape the heat when his ears perked up at Elsian's voice. Serious? The tone was a surprised coming from the gryffindor as he spoke"what's wrong?" Then the tug of a sleeve and Elsian's whining, the teen found his eyes on the competition poster.

A challenge?

Reading it over through the whines of his friend, the teen brought his eyes over to Elsian as he spoke"looks brilliant but do you think we can manage with only two people?" Loki let out a muffled hiss from the bag, almost to say there are three not two there as Henry wondered if they could grab another for their team... eyes on Elsian.

Hnn… Henry had a point there. 2 people could probably win if they tried hard enough but with 3? It was practically a guarantee! He’d seen the giant sweets they put out when others ate them, if they could get 1 more person…

You got a point,” he said, wincing slightly at the thought of it just being the 2 of them. Something told him Loki wouldn’t be much help in this, aside from maybe licking up some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

He peeked through the window. Well, there were definitely a good amount of people. Not crowded enough to have a huge line going outside the door or anything but still a lot of people. There were a few tables still open too, apparently a good amount of people were choosing to grab and go rather than stay to eat inside.

Well, let’s go grab a table first, before they all fill up.” It’d suck if they had to wait for a table for the challenge just because they were too slow. He walked up to the door, dragging it open for the other teen and Loki as a gust of cool air blew past them from inside the ice cream place, the bell jingling obnoxiously loud even in the muddled sounds of the crowds and other customers. “If we’re lucky we might find 1 or 2 others who also want a bigger group inside.” And if not-

He shrugged as the other walked past him inside, walking side by side with his friend towards one of the booths the shop had, more tucked away than the ones up front by the windows. It’d be easier to hide Loki this way. “If not, I think we can pull it off, we just won’t be eating anything else for a while.” He plopped his bag onto the booth's seat far less gently than Henry would need to with his own bag, briefly plopping himself into the seat and proceeding to slump onto the table with a groan of relief as the cold of the table seeped into his skin. It was a huge difference from the heat outside.

Tilting his head towards the counter, cheek pressed against the table he eyed the groups at the counter. Line was pretty filled, especially with the obviously harried looking parents with a handful of kids and 2 toddlers held on the hips of either parent as they ordered. They could wait a bit before Elsian went up to order the challenge. “I’ll go up to get us the challenge order after these 2 big groups finish ordering,” he promised; the hope for maybe finding a third person in the meantime went unsaid as the sleepy boy straightened, eyeing a few of the smaller duos and groups of friends peering through the window and leaving the shop.

There weren't a lot of people alone…And the pairs he saw coming in seemed to all either be leaving, on a date, or ordering for a bigger group. So unlucky.

Ugh, why do all the duos seem like love birds.” He bemoaned, stretching dramatically atop the table as he peered up at his friend.

This went on for a bit longer before the bigger group finally cleared out, leaving a sensible line to wait in. With a sigh of defeat he got up to order, Henry could stay here to keep their table and hide Loki. As he got up another person came in, seemingly pausing for a moment longer than most others when looking over the poster. It looked like he talked to somebody, his group, as he came in alone. The others…didn’t follow. It looked like they’d left. Oh Merlin was this their lucky day?

He aimed a small smile at Henry, nodding to the other younger looking boy. “Think we might have found our 3rd member~” He chirped, sliding away to slip into the line and possibly get themselves a 3rd team mate for the challenge.

This summer holiday, Marius and his brothers spent a week at Auntie Gladys'. Today was their third day of staying in this town, and Auntie Gladys drove them, along with her own three children, to the pier area.

"I trust you, Valerie," she spoke to the eldest among the six kids, "to keep everyone in check. Please do have dinner around the usual time, and Dad will pick you up at eight. And check your phone once in a while, we might need to be in touch with you."

"Yeah, don't worry, Mum," said Cousin Valerie, getting out of the car out and shutting the door behind her. She was the last to leave the machine, and thus there was no need to hold it open for anyone. "We'll meet Dad at eight, each in one piece. Guaranteed."

Everyone waved at Auntie Gladys, and she waved back before driving away. "Come on," Cousin Bernie called, grabbing little Max's hand, "I'll show you guys an ice-cream parlour I know. Famous for its banana-flavoured ice-cream." He took the six-year-old off and the others followed suit.

As they walked to the place, and as they entered, Marius was thinking whether he would get the one his cousin had just mentioned. Was it that tasty? But the Hufflepuff loved strawberry ice-cream, and for someone coming from an economic background like his, desserts were true privilege. If he ordered the banana ice-cream, he could not have some strawberry one, and vice versa.

Henry nodded to the words, he couldn't help it... being an pessimistic. It just happened, the thoughts come to his mind and his mouth blurts them out. He couldn't stop himself seeing the negatives... no matter hard he tried.

The words of grabbing a table, Henry nodded as he spoke"brilliant," following Elsian to the door, pushing the door open behind the gryffindor, the ring of the bell followed by the rush of cool air. The teen inhaled the cool air, the sweet scents of endless toppings and sugary ice. The rush of faces past him, the colliding of images and their voices. Nodding to his friend, perhaps another needed a larger group as well.

The teen followed Elsian for the window booth, Loki stayed low in the bag. Amber eyes watching the scene from the crack of the bag left open for him, nodding, the teen wasn't sure how much he enjoyed the idea of eating that much sweets in a limited time. He isn't the largest fan of sweets to began with and didn't want to start loathing ice cream either... he enjoyed the frosty goodness and didn't want that to change. At least not yet.

The teen slipped into the booth, setting his backpack on the ground with the stuffed gorilla. Opening the top a bit wider, Loki slipped from the bag. Finding a seat on the gorilla, close to Henry and Elsian. The teen nodded to Elsian's promise of ordering, eyes peeled for another member to their group. Every mouth could help, although Loki might not be that much help... even he'll admit that.

Loki stretched and jumped onto the chair, sitting besides Henry and the window. Hiding under the table. Henry studied the groups, faces, looking for a third and perhaps an fourth to join their group. The teen eyed the duos, looking to see who could join their group when he heard his friend's voice.

Choking on the air, brushing back strands of hair as he nodded. Face flushed a little as he spoke"yeah, who knew ice cream was a thing for couples," smiling a little at his friend, eyes flashing for the window. Why did he feel like this.... awkward... the teen brushed back his hair, eyes studying the passing groups when he heard his friend's voice of a potential group member.

Eyes followed Elsian's gaze, the lone lad who separated from his group. Deciding in ice cream it seemed, Loki peeked out as well but the feline didn't seem to care much for the boy. Henry smiled, he had a slight feeling that they will be getting another team mate as he spoke"don't scare him away or perhaps I should ask him, Elsi?"

He laughed, shrugging. “I thought that it was only shakes. That’s what you see on tv anyways.”He tilted his head, eyes squinting gently in a familiar look. It always either spelled trouble or meant the other boy was thinking about something seriously for once, usually a mix of the two. “You alright mate?” Hands propped against the edge of the table he leaned in closer, “you’re looking a bit flushed. Should I get you a water while I’m at it?

Before he could really put much thought into it through the shop's bell rang, the door opening and closing as their possible 3rd member finally walked in. Shoot, he better get over there.

Elsian grinned sharply at his friend, twisting back to give the boy a small 2 fingered salute as he backed away. “I’ll try not to scare them away with my amazing charm,” he promised, hand crossing an X over his heart, “cross my shriveled heart.” he cooed.

Slipping into the line, he made it just in time to get in front of the new boy. He eyed the menu briefly, one of the plastic ones with the special deals you could pick up to look at, they had a few different versions of the challenge but each one was still pretty vague… The workers were still busy with a few other customers, he had time. He twisted in his spot towards the boy menu in hand; he seemed deep in thought. Maybe having a hard time picking something?

Well, wasn’t that perfect?

Hey,” he smiled at the younger boy, relaxing on his heels to wave the special challenge menu in the other boy's view. “Are you trying the new challenge they have up too?” Said challenge in question was clear, both from the menu he waved in clear view and all the signs outside. “If you were…I was wondering, since you don’t seem to be in too much of a hurry or have a team, would you be willing to join mine and my friends'? We only have 2 outta the 4 people you’re allowed to have."

And Loki of course. But cats couldn’t eat a lot of ice cream; the last thing they wanted was a sick cat.

The possible price tag if you didn’t win might have seemed a bit threatening. “It’d be my treat if we lost,” he added with a tiny wave of his hand, figuring the other might hesitate. He wouldn’t be surprised if the other kid was a bit wary of being left with the check.

The grin turned a little sharper at the edges, “if you’re up for it that is.

It was a little bit of a challenge. But one all in good fun!

It was obvious in the joking tone dripping from Elsians words.
