Ilvermorny v Koldovstoretz and Beauxbatons Broom Racing Summer Games 2022

It was that time of the year again- The time for students from all kind of cultures and schools to compete in a violent game that would likely leave one child or the other unconscious on the ground. But even though this was public knowledge, the kids seemed to sign up for this game time and time again, so why would anyone try to stop them? It was certainly entertaining after all.

The stands were buzzing with the chatter of students who were lured here either by their excitement for the upcoming race or simply to have access to the cold beverages and snacks- it was after all a hot summer afternoon.
If everyone's favorite Ilvermorny Headmaster Lazarus Plott didn't know the amplifying charm, he would have probably had trouble getting anyone to listen to him, but soon his voice echoed clearly through the rows of students.

"Welcome to the third race of the summer, between Ilvermorny and Koldovstoretz supported by Beauxbatons!" He would turn to the racers who had already lined up at the start. "You all ready? GO!"

Unit 1

Eight students would kick off the ground and start the race. It was always chaotic in the first few seconds, a fight for the first lead where opponents were potentially just as dangerous as the upcoming obstacles. But there wasn't one nearby just yet, the first narrow passageway was still a little further. Or was there?

The bundimun was well hidden, but not well enough for the sharp eyes of some of the racers. Unfortunately it was the last thing they would see before the acid hit them. All eight of them. The bundimun could rot the structure of buildings, it was without saying that it would make the race more difficult for some time.

Unit 4

The racers with quicker brooms reached the first narrow passageway. Narrow- but definitely not impossible.

Only a few of the racers collided with the small entrance, maybe because they were still distracted by the unpleasant encounter with the pest before.

Those who went on would be now faced with a more difficult challenge as the passageway became more narrow, requiring more focus in order not to brush against the walls.

Unit 6

Finally one racer took the lead- Vivienne. The poor girl would already have some scratches and bruises from the collisions with the passageways, not to mention the bundimun acid. But she fought her way through her components. The first lead was often a good start, but she wouldn't keep it without any more sacrifices.

August 20, 2022 -- Opponents: Koldovstoretz/Beauxbatons

Bundimun! He saw it, but unfortunately, he was not able to avoid the spit of acid launched at him and everyone else still bunched together at the beginning. Right out of the gate and this is what greeted them? The course was going to be challenging. Good. Nothing really worth doing should be easy.

Stephen could smell the acid burning clothing, broom handles, and even flesh before he felt it, but when he did feel it, he forced himself to slow his breathing and keep it steady. Focusing on everything and everyone around him would help him through the pain. He was strong willed, plus he knew there was magic healing awaiting him at the end of the race. Acid burns could....and would... be tolerated for less than an hour. His undivided focus was on his flying and the challenges immediately ahead of him.

Nothing could beat flying in a professional Quidditch stadium, with his team, against properly formidable opponents. Fun, danger, excitement, and hopefully the thrill of victory, would belong to Ilvermorny's Sayre's Sweeps before the hour was up.

Stephen leaned down low over his handle and lifted the handle tip.

Just.

Stay.

Focused.

Other times it was harmful. He wasn't exactly sure were this acid came from. He had to keep flying, that was what he had to do. He wasn't injured enough to stop. And he wouldn't.

XXXThe race had begun. Fedya lifted off and began his flight, dashing through the obstacles and avoiding what he could. Bundimun, check. He grinned as he watched a racer fall to it, then advanced through the next obstacle with a determined grin on his face. The acid hurt, of course, but not as much as the failure.

Of course, all good things must come to an end.

Fyodor came upon the narrow passageway and braced himself, squeezing his body tight and gripping the broomstick with so much force it had him white-knuckled.

”Oh, hell,” Fyodor didn’t make it. He crumpled to the ground, stamping his foot and grabbing the broomstick again. At least he wasn’t the only one who had taken an unfortunate fall. determinedly, haughtily, he lifted off again.

XXXWhere Alexi came from, he was a titan. Revered for his prowess, his sports genius, his athleticism. Normally he wouldn’t stoop to these lows, flying with Beauxbatons students, but he supposed if it secured him a win, he would chance it.

Waving lackadaisically at the crowd as he flew, Alexi approached the bundimun. Apparently, waving didn’t make you aware. Caught off guard, he was blasted with the acid, choking through his pain as he advanced.

No matter. He bore down hard and spun through the next obstacle, but wasn’t so lucky on the third. He was down at the narrow passageway, his muscled form too much for the small, tight space.

Stamping his foot, Alexi rose again. He wouldn’t mess up this time.

Irina was ready to win, she had enough losses in the last year that it was time for a victory. She was the most determined that she had ever been and started the race with a deadly look in her eyes. This was her race.

As soon as the race started, she noticed the bundimum but was still unable to avoid its spray. Everyone was blasted with the corrosive acid that came out of the bundimum, and it made Irina’s scowl worsen. She had dealt with this creature before yet dealing with it at the start of the race was going to dampen her mood for the whole race. Continuing on, Irina passed through beginning of the narrow passages without hitting the walls, however, once the passage got tighter she had to hit the wall in order to not hit one of her teammates. This race had not started the way she wanted it to, but Irina was determined to win either individually or as a team.

Headmaster Plott was there to announce the start of the race and Drew steeled himself, ready for anything.

"You all ready? GO!"

The racers shot from their starting places, shooting through the air.

Drew had been putting off getting a broom for far too long. He should have bought one over the summer, before camp, so he could have used it in this broom race. But no, he just had to procrastinate and study all the brooms that were his options... and then it was too late. Drew noticed quickly how pointedly behind he was from all the other broom racers, their brooms faster than he was.

As they moved forward, Drew caught a glint of green, but his reflexes weren't fast enough for him to dodge out of the way of the acid sprayed at the broom racers. He flinched but continued going. It seemed everybody else was also sprayed with the acid, so he wasn't alone in that, at least.

Just keep going, just keep going.

Vivienne had to prevent herself from screaming out in pain as the bundimun acid hit her, failing to notice the blasted thing in the first place. God, it stung, but she pushed on. She could do this.

She braced herself as the narrow passageway came closer but unfortunately she still collided with the wall. Vivienne hissed in pain, but at least she had gotten through. Another narrow passageway was quickly coming up, and she squeezed as tight as she could in a futile attempt to not hit the walls again, but she still collided with them anyway. This race really didn't seem to want to go easy on her. Luckily Vivienne wasn't the type of person to give up easily.

She still made it through, that was something. And she was in the lead. She was plenty bruised up, but at least she had taken the lead. Unfortunately, yet not surprisingly given her current track record already, she didn't make it through the passageway this time.

It would be okay. She just had to keep on fighting.

After the first few seconds of racing, most of the racers stopped moving. Whether that was because of the pain they surely all had to feel or fear of what might come next- who knew? Whatever it was, it allowed one team to take the lead for now.

Andrew, who had stayed behind so far would now reach the passage ways as well. The first one would not be a problem to the American.
