A New Adventure
Attire: Wearing: Slytherin pride, neck ring, kilt, shoes, fang necklace, raven feather in his braid.Reducio

London, 31st August 2022
Summer had been weird. Really weird. It had been like a near constant broom race using a cursed broom! It had been full not just of the usual ups and downs, but of really terrifying descents and spirals out of control.
And now it was over with.
Tomorrow Colin would board the Express and return to Hogwarts with his friends; once his twin brother Liam got out of St. Mungo's he'd return to school and everything would be normal again. But for now, Colin was waiting. He'd been in London since the fourteenth of August and now it was the thirty-first and he found himself wandering the streets of muggle London lost in thought. He ran his fingers through his hair, still black and green from the broom race, and smiled as his fingers brushed the long raven feather that dangled from the thin braid he'd started growing from his left temple.
There had been the strange exchange between Hunter and AngelFyre, leading Colin to wonder how well he really knew anyone. Of course there was his sister Moira's wedding and Sophia's transformation from timid girl to speed demon. Then the quest to uncover the meaning of the strange book that he'd found in a classroom last year and the terrifying letter that instructed a gang of werewolves to attack him even before he'd gotten to Hogwarts the summer before.
As Colin kicked those around in his mind, he rememberd what had brought him to London so early in the first place. Of course, there had been the surprise owl from Opeila, the Slytherin broom racing captain --- she had informed him that he'd be taken from the wait list and placed on the team immediately. He even inherited the previous racer's broom! It was a really beautiful Silver Arrow, made by Leonard Jewkes and could reach speeds of almost 70 miles an hour! He was pretty certain that even his Seanmamó's Morris Oxford couldn't go quite that fast, even though he'd tried once he got the hang of driving it.
There had also been the werewolf attacks. Of course, werewolf attacks weren't unknown in the desolate Highlands; but even Colin had to admit that werewolves attacking the same boy twice in one summer was a bit sus. Especially after fighting off the one that had bitten him the previous summer. At least he had learned that his Ma wasn't planning on exterminating him, as he'd feared all last year! His Da had taken him aside and taught him about politics. Colin thought it really queer that Ma had to tell the folk of the north that she was all for exterminating werewolves, just to keep them happy, all the while knowing that the Ministry would sit back and do nothing about the attacks. Colin decided that politics was too confusing!
And now he found his feet entering the Charing Cross Road and taking him back towards the drab black door of the Leaky Cauldron that marked the boundary between muggle and wizarding London. The main hall was still pretty empty. Colin figured that folks were probably out on promenade or doing some last minute shopping. He decided to go up to his room and fetch the parcel his Seanmamó had left with him yesterday before returning home.
Coming back down to the main hall, Colin ordered some food and drink at the bar then sat down at a quiet table in the corner by the great hearth. His mind wandered, wondering what great or dastardly wizards had come through this place or which of them might have sat at this very table. He only knew it was his favourite, as it was the one he and Liam had carved their initials into a few years ago when they first came down to London for a visit.
He pushed the parcel to one side and found their initials carved into the heavy wood. He traced the letters idly with his fingers, wondering if he'd see any of his friends today, or if they'd arrive in London tomorrow just to catch the train. Or, he thought, maybe he'd meet someone new? It struck him that he was no longer the wide eyed first year! Well --- he was still pretty wide eyed! But he wondered if it may be that he'd make some friends among those just starting school?

A New Adventure
Alma skipped happily behind her mother as they walked back from their last shop. It had been a successful trip; she managed to get all her supplies, make some friends, and her mother even gave her enough sickles for the sweets trolley on the Hogwarts Express!
Coming back to the bleak door of The Leaky Cauldron, Alma couldn’t wait until her first school year at Hogwarts. Sure, the amount of strangers and people she had to talk to was a bit intimidating, but how hard could it be? She had already talked to people and made a new friend during her time at Diagon Alley, how hard could it be at Hogwarts?
“Make sure you send your father an owl about your shopping trip, you know he likes to hear from you when you’re away.” her mother said as she opened the door.
Stepping into the cold, damp building, Alma saddened at the thought of her Pa. The man refused to come on the shopping trip, due to his slight hostility towards magic. She loved her Pa, really, but sometimes she was just very frustrated with his insistence that magic was a bad thing.
She put those thoughts out of her mind. She would write a letter to her father later. Her Ma must’ve noticed her expression, however.
“Here,” her mother walked up to her and handed her the tiny sketch pad Alma had packed, as well as a mechanical pencil; a muggle gift her father had gotten her for her last birthday. “Why don’t you stay here in the hall and draw for a bit? I’ll go pack your stuff for you.” she finished with a smile.
Alma hugged her mother tightly before pulling back. “Thank you!” she smiled back. Her Ma kissed her on the top of the head before walking back up to their room, ready to organize the new supplies.
Alma looked around the hall for an empty table. She found one, but her eyes were drawn to the table next to it, right in the corner, sporting what seemed to be a slytherin boy with black and green hair. She really considered going over to the table and introducing herself; maybe she could get two new friends out of this trip! But…
She ultimately decided against it and began walking towards the empty table. However, she wasn’t looking where she was going and tripped forward on an uneven board piece.
She put her hands in front of her face to break her fall and thankfully, she caught herself. God, that was embarrassing. She picked up the pad next to her and began searching around for her pencil. She panicked when she couldn’t find it.
She started panicking even more when she found her pencil; it rolled right under the table in the corner with the Slytherin boy! She rushed to pick herself up from the floor, dust herself off, and speed walk over to the corner table.
“Uh…h-hi!” she introduced to the boy. “Sorry, I just dropped my..uh…my pencil on the floor.”
She felt conflicted on what she should call her instrument. Maybe this boy didn’t have any muggle parents, he could only have ever used quills! He might not know what a pencil is. She decided to just stick with it and wait for the boy’s response.

A New Adventure
Finnegan's arms hurt like someone had cast an incendiary charm on them. By the time he had finally broken free from the gaggle of witches and wizards and returned with his shopping to the Leaky Cauldron he wanted nothing more than belly-flop onto a nice, cushy bed and remain there for at least an hour.
At the bar he located the goblin-like head of the stout wizard that had been his handler for the day. Or at least that had been the idea. In truth, the stout little man had shown him the location of each shop and left him to his own devices while he got himself a drink. From the very moment they'd met, Finnegan had thought the dumpy wizard intensely disliked him.
"Yer, finally done then?" The wizard noted after a quick glance at the tired boy and his cauldron, overflowing with books, robes and other materials. "I been sittin' here for days," he grumbled before he fished a shiny bit of paper from his breast pocket and handed it over to Finnegan. "This 'ere is yer ticket. It's all on there, platform nine and three quarters, the whole diddly-dang, now if you'll excuse me..."
Finnegan thought it didn't much matter if he excused the man or not, because he got off his seat at the bar to leave and didn't so much as grumble a goodbye before he left.
It wasn't until he caught the bartender staring at him that Finnegan realized he'd been looking vacantly ahead, his mouth half agape and the shiny ticket almost slipping from his fingers. With a jolt he suddenly averted his gaze to examine the ticket. Platform nine-and-three-quarters? Where was that supposed to be?
A commotion to his right made him jerk his head toward the sound of the noise. A girl with brown, shoulder-length hair and the calm of a startled chicken was stumbling over her feet and her words, muttering something about a pencil to an unusual looking boy.
Finnegan knew he stuck out like a sore thumb amid wizardkind with his plain, muggle hoodie and simple jeans, but this boy was on another level entirely. The green and black of his hair was a striking feature just by itself, but paired with his checkered blouse, his neck ring, a braid and a kilt, he was decidedly the oddest looking boy Finnegan had ever laid eyes on. It was hard to say if he was a particularly brazen muggle or a particularly brazen wizard considering the regular attire of either never looked anything like this.
Between the two of them he decided at least one of them had to be a proper witch or wizard. Probably the girl. With the last of his strength he lifted his heavy cauldron, dragged it over to the table and plonked down on the nearest free seat without much of an explanation. "Sorry," he managed to say once he'd caught his breath. "I was just wondering if either of you knew where platform nine-and-," he glanced down to check the number on his ticket, "nine-and-three-quarters... do you know where that is?"
He pressed his elbows down hard on the table while he tried to stop his thin, twig-like arms from shaking, but couldn't stop the occasional involuntary twitch that passed through them. They'd probably laugh him off, thinking him a weak, silly, mousy little boy who clearly didn't belong in a witch's pub. But what other choice did he have? His parents surely wouldn't know about any platform nine-and-three-quarters either.

A New Adventure
Summer for Quinn was sad, the first half definitely was. With the death of her grandmother. The beginning of her summer, that was when it occurred. She ment to stay there all summer. Luckily the second half was much, much better. With summer camp and all. The games she did play were fun, so was the prank war with some of the other tents.
There were some bad days that she still had, but most of the pain was gone. With this new school year she would have some changes, not very many. She was just an inch taller, and her hair grew quite a bit. Which would bring her to 4'9, and her hair to shoulder length.
"Ok Quinn, I'm going to head to our room. You can explore. Or really whatever you want." Her fathers voice had brought her back to now. She smiled at him and nodded. "Just remember to-" he had began before Quinn intervened "Stay out of muggle London I know" She laughed as she rolled her eyes.
She gave him a quick hug before heading to look around. Wondering if anyone she knew had arrived. She had her cat in hand, she missed him while she was at summer camp. There were two people in the corner of the room. She noticed, one was fumbling words.
She saw the second person had spit died hair. Green and black. She quickly recognized this person as Colin. Her friend from school, there was a lot to say to him. As she made her way over so did another boy. She made it over as he was asking about platform 9 3/4.
She set her cat down and motioned for him to follow her. "You find it right between platforms nine and ten, at kings cross station. Quinn, fir- second year slytherin" she informed the boy. Smiled at him. He may have been muggle born. Or just grew up in a non magic house.
She then looked at Colin, he was easily recognizable with his kilt, and his hair. Which was the same as when she saw him at the broom race. "Colin, I have one question for you. When did you get on the broom racing team?!" That was the main question she needed to ask.
Her eyes fell into the thing she assumed was for writing in the other girls hand. "What's that? Is it some sort of fancy Quill? Doesn't look like any quill I've seen.." she was talking a lot so she would shut up and let everyone else have a chance to talk.

A New Adventure

Colin didn't even notice as the hall of the Cauldron became rather busy indeed! Apart from that kind of mean looking wizard who had been sitting at the bar when he ordered his food, all was quiet. And now his reverie was broken!
“Sorry, I just dropped my..uh…my pencil on the floor.” He had heard some sounds of shoes scuffing on the wooden floor and something clattering about on the boards.
"Huh? Wh ---?" Colin looked up. A girl was standing there. Her face was red. She'd clearly been the perpetrator of the recent disturbance! "Oh!" Colin ducked down under the table to see what had happened. And there it was! Nestled among the dust and debris that had gathered in the corner by the table's heavy wooden leg, was something out of place. Something metallic. He fished his wand out of his pocket with his left hand and with a now well practiced flick and swish, whispered: "Wingardium leviosa!"
He sat back up, leading the levitating object up off the floor and let it hover for a moment at eye level before him. He reached out with his right hand but didn't touch the object. His bright green eyes glinted and he smiled. "Ye might as well set yersel doon lass!" He didn't even look up at the poor flustered girl, as all his attention was focused on the curious object floating in air before him.
Still aiming his wand at the strange object, Colin got up onto the chair and crouched down on it, looking more like a creature on the hunt than a boy about to enjoy an early lunch. As he lowered his wand, time seemed to slow. The --- thing --- rotated slowly before him. It was a queer looking thing. Much shorter than a wand, and had a metallic quality to it. Colin narrowed his eyes and thought back.
He heard voices coming from far away. Voices of friends and voices of strangers. Of Sophia in the Library. The wizard at the bar growling. A boy talking. The hall and the library melded into one place in Colin's imagination. Something about this object jogged his memory, of Sophia in the library. Another girl talking. She spoke his name and he recognised her as a friend. Quinn. The strange boy said something about platform nine and three-quarters: "I was just wondering if either of you knew where platform nine-and-," he paused --- probably couldn't quite believe what he was saying --- "nine-and-three-quarters... do you know where that is?"
"Muggledom!" Colin cried out. And with that, he flicked his wand down. His right hand was poised to strike as the spell diffused and gravity took over from magic left off. The pen dropped from its position and Colin's eyes tracked its descent. It hardly had time to tumble around! And just at the very last second before the thing struck the table top, Colin sprang onto the table, kneeling on the edge, with his shoes still on the chair! His right hand shot out and snatched the thing up!
Pocketing his wand into his kilt pocket, he held the curious object, now crouching again on top of the chair. "I know what this is!" He turned towards Quinn. "Quinn! You got taller, right?" His eyes flicked from his friend back to the thing in his hand. "Sophia had these! Muggle magic! It's a muggle magic quill, Quinn! Look! It's got the ink inside and everything!"
Colin looked from the new girl to the new boy as he transferred the writing implement to his left hand and fished around in his pocket for a scrap of parchment. He held the thing in his fist and banged the knobby end against the left side of his head. "See? Ye bang it against yer head to activate the charm, right! There's a wee nib and you don't even have to dip in an inkwell and --- YEEEP!!"
Colin gasped in surprise! "Whoa! This ain't a quill after all! Look! It's got all lead! It's an enchanted pencil!" he banged the thing against his head again. "The lead keeps growing! Wicked! And look! It's got a wee rubber bumper so it doesn't hurt your head so much as the quill!" He banged the thing against his head a few more times and now had about an inch of lead sticking out.
"Hm!" He said as he touched it to the parchment scrap. krik! The lead snapped! "Oh bugger that!" He banged the rubber onto the parchment in surprise. "Hey! The magic works even when you don't bang it against your head. Muggledom! Brilliant, lass!"
He grimaced when he noticed the carnage of pencil lead on the parchment. He got his wand out again and aimed it at the lead. "Reparo!" The bits of lead all skittered along the parchment and flew up into the air, sliding back into the barrel of the muggle wonder. "Wicked," he said as he handed it back to the girl.
Colin seemed to come out of a trance once the strange thing left his hand. "Who are you two anyway? Are you two for Hogwarts then?" Colin looked over at the boy's cauldron full of stuff. He laughed! "I'm silly! Of course you're for Hogwarts, aren't you! Ye've got a cauldron full of stuff! Where's yours, lassie?" he said towards the new girl.
"Show me what you've got, then, new boy! I did my shopping yesterday, mind. But my Seanmamó gave me a present. Wanna see?" he asked, nudging the huge paper wrapped packet on the table.
"I'm Colin, by the way." He stood and bowed slightly to the newcomers before sitting back down. "Here! Eat something!" He indicated the platter of apples and cheeses and oatcakes and bread that he'd ordered. "They have pretty good bread here, and fresh butter too! Though you might want to think twice about their pea soup, mind. It's been known to eat people," he said with a knowing nod.

A New Adventure

Clair was armed with her normal things. A book, a quill (and a Pen) a roll of Parchment, a ink well, some Galleons more books, and of course more books.
She had a plan today, as she had done before in another thread She was going to slip into Diagon Alley. Well, after she had a little meal. Today's outfit was just as annoying as always,
With it's flowy-ness, and the fact that it was a dress. It bugged her. Tomorrow she would get the relief of not wearing a dress. She looked forward to returning to Hogwarts. And the freedom she would get with it. Her hair was pulled up into a tight (and pretty) bun on the back of her head.
Entering the Leaky Cauldron Clair looked around, and then decided to order herself a meal.
"hello..." She ordered her food and drink and then sat down with it. Just as she was sitting down, Clair noticed a group of students from Hogwarts.
She decided to go and say hi, what harm could it do? The worst they could do was tell her to leave.
She wandered up to them, "Hey guys, I'm Clair. Second year Ravenclaw."
Man that felt good to say.

The boy didn’t exactly answer her straightforwardly. Alma watched with confusion as he lifted the pencil up with his wand and studied it like it was his science fair project. It seemed he indeed didn’t know what a pencil was after all.
He asked her to sit down in a strangely heavy scottish accent. She was from Scotland as well, but her accent was never as prominent as her classmates or friends. Perhaps it was because her Grandma was from America.
She timidly sat down and waited for the boy to give her pencil back. Just then, another boy came and sat down at the table next to her, asking about Platform nine and three quarters. She was just about to answer him when yet another person came and sat at the table.
She introduced herself as Quinn, another second year, and she seemed to know the slytherin boy. They began talking about broom races and the boy with her pencil even started trying to explain it. She found it almost humorous as he banged the eraser against his head and the led fell out.
He finally gave the pencil back to her, but his enthusiasm for it made her put it back into her pocket in case he decided on taking it again. “My names Alma, i’m just a first year.” she finally introduced herself.
“My ma took my cauldron upstairs to our room.”
Another girl came up to the table; things were starting to get crowded. Her name was Clair Fernandez and she was yet another second year. Suddenly, Alma felt glad that she was sitting by the only other first year at the table.
She smiled warmly at the girl as a greeting, not wanting to say much yet. She still felt slightly awkward with her drawing pad still sitting on the table, full of little sketches that she had planned on finishing instead of talking to a crowd of four other people. She supposed it didn’t matter though, seeing as this would still be a wonderful opportunity to make friends.

A New Adventure

The new girl with the cool magical pencil put the thing back into her pocket. Drat! Hadn't Colin been in London for days and never thought to look for such an artifact of muggle magic out in the non-magical part of the City! Grr. Oh well, she seemed cool. Maybe he'd get a closer look at that contraption later!
She introduced herself as Alma, and Colin wondered if she were scared by how many second years were collecting at the table! He remembered back to last year, not quite knowing what to make of older students, and he hoped that he wouldn't come across as quite so scary as some of them!
He smiled at how scared these two looked and reached over to snag a slice of apple. They were really sweet and ---
--- And then it happened! ---
Colin's eyes flew open as he watched the newcomer approach them! The slice of apple slipped from his fingers just as she introduced herself! It shot forward across the table towards the one person Colin had wanted to meet since the broom race! He watched as it tumbled through the air, red against a background of white print blue fabric!
"Oh crap!" Colin said! He quickly stood up on the chair and crawled onto the table, trying to chase after the rogue fruit before it could do any damage! He reached out for it, but missed it by half an inch! It bounced off the edge of the table and landed right in the roll of parchment of --- Clair Fernandez!
"Oh drat and double drat!" Colin let his forehead thump onto the heavy wood of the table. "She's gonna hate me, I know it," he moaned to himself.
His heart had been pounding the whole time and he knew he must be turning as red as the apple he'd been eating. He slowly looked up, pushed his mess of black and green hair with its long raven feather decorated braid back. He raised himself up and, still kneeling on the table, said: "I! I --- er --- I'm so sorry Clair! I --- I didn't mean to throw any food at you!"
Colin could feel his neck and face burning as he looked around to see what Quinn and the firsties made of this introduction! Well, lad, there goes all credibility with the first years! --- And worse, with Clair! He groaned again with embarrassment, but managed to get off the table and stand properly.
He bowed deeply to her, still blushing. "Clair," he said. Then took a ragged breath. "Um, I --- I'm Colin! Um. You --- wouldn't --- want to sit --- with me? Us! I mean us! Um?"
Oh that was real smooth, Colin lad! She's gonna turn right around and walk away, I know it!

Finnegan gave the the girl @Quinn Root a puzzled look, then nodded. It was probably just best to pretend that what she had just said made sense or he'd look like a complete fool. He only let out a sigh of quiet desperation until all attention had shifted to the peculiar boy who was losing his mind over a pencil @Colin McCoire. The table made a loud, creaking sort of noise when he tried to jump on it and Finnegan silently braced himself for total collapse that fortunately didn't happen.
Enthusiasm was one thing, but this boy had to be on some kind of sugar high, or maybe he'd gotten coffee. Finnegan had tried it once, it was awfully bitter and had made him jittery for the better part of a day. "I'm Finn," he said, hoping that if he'd kept his answer short Colin would finally shut up.
Thankfully, he was joined by a girl with straight bangs who had the same, quietly nervous look about her that he felt coursing through his veins. Just by virtue of her being quiet he already liked her a great deal better than pencil boy who had made him instantly lose his appetite at the mention of people-eating pea soup.
Maybe pencil boy had cast some kind of magnetic magic that just drew more and more people to the table. He was starting to feel rather surrounded even though the girl that joined them @Clair Fernandez seemed nice. He gave her a little wave to return her greeting, but said nothing otherwise.
It wasn't until the girl with the straight bangs @Alma Stoll spoke up that Finnegan finally relaxed a little. "Oh you're a first year too?" he sounded intensely relieved. And just when he thought he could not begin to like her more - though it wasn't hard to be likeable next to the bouncing ball called Colin - he noticed her drawing pad. "Did you draw those?" his eyes went wide as he peered over at her sketches. "Those are really good! I draw too sometimes," he added with a faint smile.
He decided that the best thing to do was to ignore Colin, who was too busy throwing food and jumping on the table again anyway, and scooted over to sit next to Alma and Quinn instead. "What kind of wand did you get?" he asked both of them. Mr Olivander had mentioned other woods and wand cores, but had not explained them in any detail expect for chestnut and phoenix feather - his wand wood and core.

A New Adventure

Clair smiled kindly at the girl, and waved back at the boy.
But it seemed that as Clair had entered another boy, Colin if she remembered correctly, lost his hold on a apple slice. As it bounced across the table and as it bounced the boy chased it. Clair watched with surprised. Why chase it? Would it not make more sense to just let the apple bounce and land and then pick it up? And if it landed on the floor then just wash it? She was sure that there would be at least one witch or wizard who would be willing to cast a simple cleaning spell, she would do it even! If there was not a rule against casting magic under age outside of Hogwarts.
She watched as the apple landed, and Colin said sorry.
"Really, it's alright! We all get butter fingers some times! Here." She handed him his apple, which was still pretty clean.
She could tell that Colin was embarrassed, so she smiled and ignored the fact that he had stumbled over himself so much.
"Sure I'd love to sit with everyone! If your all ok with that?" She looked at the others.
And then sat down. "Your from the Broom race, correct?" She smiled again. That race had been fun.
