@Percival Gray
Ten long fingers came creeping out from the shadows, like spiders tiptoeing the line of the world outside their little cornered web. Two slender arms folded outwards, wrapping themselves around a set of pillars overlooking a balcony of stairs. One large, angular face slowly lowered itself from the ceiling, revealing at last…
BAM! The giant threw himself down, with two loud barges for boots planted firmly on the ancient stonework.
The little first year hadn't been paying any attention whatsoever. Their nose stuck in a map of the castle, as they desperately tried remembering if this corner brought them back around their common room. Now, with a thunderous entrance, they felt Death himself tickling their little heartstrings in fear of facing the giant that just jumped in front of them.
Hugh's wide and mischievous grin was cut off on both sides with a pair of big bushy sideburns. His hands he left resting on his hips as he kept his stance wide and challenging. The kid before him was just an average Joe. They barely made it to his knees, and Hugh felt pretty certain the kid almost wetting theirs.
"Go on then… RUN while you can…" Not that he had any intention of chasing the kid himself. The entire sport revolved around the scaring, like that one film about monsters scaring all the kids for energy. Only here he was more sustaining the energy of his amusement. Though it had a tendency to run out pretty quickly. After chuckling like a menace in seeing the kid run past some older students for dear life, Hugh's grin quickly broke down with them disappearing around the corner.
"Hmpf." He growled as someone stared too long in passing him by. "Good for nothing. Some just don't make the cut, you see." He informed them without making a real point. This was always the case with him. Whatever he said could be taken as meaningful or absurd, he was just present to not care about what you thought or learned from it.
His eyes caught something else in the distance. A mop of black hair came wobbling up the staircase as the giant leaned against one of the pillars. With his face partly obscured in shadow, he looked like a villain waiting to begin his inner monologue after a long exposé on a dramatic lifetime they had endured. Luckily for the school, Hugh never inherited a singing voice, nor a talent fit for theatre.
"Well, well, well…" His words slowly increasing in volume as they echoed through the corridor. "You have to be that new guy for Slytherin, no?" Hugh began with a pointing finger, which slowly waggled itself in front of the other's nose. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got the right guy. I've got a talent for spotting people in a crowd you see." His one hand pointed out his stature, as if his height hadn't been his most obvious trait.
"Don't get your hopes up for the next one, champ. I hear falling trees make it pretty hard to fly these days." The giant grinned with a prodding look, testing the lad's tenacity.

It was another day at Hogwarts, one that normally involved walking in and out of classes for most of the day. Dressed in his neat Hogwarts robes, he was finally returning to the Slytherin common to chill down and talk with San. They had been trying to catch up with lost time as of late, the more they talked and did the more they truly missed their bond.
Percival was walking down the corridor when he heard a thump echo down the corridor. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw a big, menacing figure standing over a small first year, a kid who was only up to the giant's knees. Gray stopped and looked at the scene emotionless, almost unimpressed that a person in his year was picking on a puny child. Thankfully, the kid knew best and ran as fast as his small legs could take him. Why did these giants always act high and mighty? they weren't exactly invincible.
Then, before he knew it the attention was turned to him. A large finger was pointed his way as he quite bravely walked towards him with no fear. Just a few steps away the giant wagged his finger close to Grays's nose, something that the boy raised an eyebrow to. He wasn't scared or intimidated by the looming figure, even though he could literally pick him up and break all his bones in a matter of seconds.
"Yes... you have the right guy. What is it to you giant?" he said with a slight tilt of his head this time. This wasn't the first student to point out his fresh membership to the Slytherin team, nor would it be the last "What? are you one of the creatures we have to come up against on the field?" Gray questioned, his eyes looking him up and down "I doubt any known broom would hold your weight..." Percival answered back, unafraid to stand up to the giants warnings.

It curiously felt odd to Hugh to hear himself being referred to as 'giant'. People knew what he was, of course, the evidence clearly provided. But most, circled around the obvious truth. The difference between them, they had to deal with. His head cocked to the side as Hugh stared in surprise. There was no clear fear nor doubt in the boy's eyes. In fact, he straight up bit back. Though the Slytherin would still be barking up the wrong tree.
A tough guy persona, bravado of a soldier, the cool guy act. Hugh didn't care for any of it. It's what he told Captain Mop to drop when first they met. Though… as the giant pinched his lower lip and accepted the boy's insults for what they were, Hugh had to admit he was impressed with this display of bravery. Pointless it may be, it would serve him well in the race, no doubt.
"The name's Gray, right? Percival, like the knight." Hugh nodded solemnly, still pensively pinching his lower lip. "Do you usually depend on your witty remarks?" His eyes narrowed on Gray. "You seem quick to lash out there, mate. You must be great at parties…" A smirk slid across his face before continuing. "I'm flying a tree on my next one, don't worry. Wouldn't want to disappoint the crowds you see. Otherwise, they might start thinking I'm going regular." Hugh scoffed at the very idea of it. "This your first race? Much experience on a broom then?"
In his own team, he had to welcome some new flyers. Younger people, eager to race, but still in need of training. Percival was older than them though, so it'd be an odd choice to join in this late if there was no prior history on a broom. Maybe the kid lost a bet and was now being left to his fate. Either way, Hugh felt already intrigued by whom he met before him. And the gears in his head slowly picked up the pace as various variables came spinning in, like little coins feeding a pinball-machine.

"Gray's the name, correct" he responded dryly to the giant, looking fairly uninterested in what he had to say for himself. His mouth formed into a brief smirk when he asked if he depended on his witty remarks to get through "In all honestly, No. I'm just not afraid of you compared to everyone else" he bit back, readjusting the newspaper calmly under his armpit. The kid seemed to have pleasure in pointing out he was riding a tree next race, something which would sound ridiculous if you weren't a wizard born or higher.
"This will be my second race, Hugh. I took part in the first ever broom race which involved different schools. Even so, It doesn't mean I haven't been flying a broom even before coming to this school," he said back sternly with a sigh. Since the age of five, his father had been building him up to ride a broom, getting him used to it before attending Hogwarts itself.
"If you think I'm new to all this you're very much mistaken. I won't be bullied around by the likes of you and Nic, who seem to think I'll be a walk in the park" he grunted, his eyes briefly looking in the direction the first year had run "What's with you and scaring the first years anyway? Are they the only ones that treat you as a threat?"

Hugh started pacing around as the Slytherin began his counter-play. This time holding both arms folded behind his back, the giant shrugged and smiled at Percival's display of seemingly "required" bravery. "Cute." And it was true. Percival Gray did not look bad at all, the curls in his hair in particular seemed to have the peculiar talent of always staying… perfect.
A revelation came next. "Ah… Yes. Yes, I forgot." Hugh said as he stared at a wall, trying to recall who had been there. It had all gone down so fast. Faces he barely remembered. Hell, he had almost no recollection of the girl who had actually won the race. Her name was something like… Angelica? Yes, that seemed correct. Maybe add some French twist to it, and it'd be fixed. But he did not recall Percival to be present for it. Peculiarly talented hair or not.
"Bullied?" Hugh stopped in his tracks and pulled his gaze from the wall. "What we're doing now, Percival… It is simply the regular 'sizing up your opponent'." The giant declared like the other had been a silly kid in maths class. "It's like a play. There's a certain performance to it. There's the captain who sticks to their bravado and always tries to play the inspiration card on his team. Blind optimism I more than often despise from the likes of Nicholas, as well as the others." Hugh grumbled under his breath.
"As for Firsties, they need to learn." He explained again, since Percival did ask. "I hardly think a rather tall student jumping on them from the dark will be their biggest concern of the day. On a daily basis the hospital wing tends to victims that have been burned, stabbed, beaten, jinxed, cut, broken and the list goes on and on…" Hugh took a deep breath to regain his composure. "The school's not a pleasant place. There's plenty of people playing nice for the firsties, they just need to learn to know better around my kind. After all, sooner or later they will start picking up newspapers and judge me all the same. See, Percival…" Hugh smiled back at the Slytherin with a hopeless shrug. "I am only playing the part, the part people expect me to play."
And continue playing it he would. It drew less suspicion from the general crowd. Gray only called him out because Hugh singled him out from the crowd first. It was a confrontation all of a sudden. And people became brave when facing odds against them. No one needed to know that plans had been brewing in Hugh's head. A giant that could think? One could only imagine. Mixing brawn and brain was a terribly tricky concoction to both create as well as maintain a secret. Sticking with his usual strategy, the young Lowe resorted back to staring at a wall. They could tell you so much while your conversation partner was choosing their next words, carefully or not. A wall was a buffer to many things both physical as well as mental. Words would bounce out of your peripheral and stay away for you to recollect them at a later, more suitable, time.
"What part are you looking to play then, Percival?" Hugh asked without making eye contact. Wondering what clockwork mechanism would be rattling and turning underneath his peculiarly talented hair.
