@Jack Warren
George wasn't as enthusiastic about flying as he thought he'd ought to be. It was a classic magical activity, and while his friends had been doing quidditch and broom racing, he'd been sticking with gobstones wizard chess. But still, it was a balance of qualities which made a good wizard into a great one, and so George requested flying lessons from his friend Jack so that he could be prepared for when he purchased a broom of his own over the summer.
For now, he was perched upon one of the school brooms. These had seemed so much bigger in second year, before his growth spurt... George leaned over, struggling to get a good grip and stance on his broom as he posed for his friend to give advice.
"This is about right, riiOOH!" The broom took off, bringing George for a rapid twirl in the air before crash-landing a few feet away with a thud and a shocked cry of pain. The badger boy, bruised but undeterred, brushed the mud off of his knees with the bristles of the broom before dropping it to the ground.
He kept one hand on his hip, the other raised above the broom, ready to call it up when he was ready. "I guess not..." he grumbled. "I don't think I'd have a chance on the Quidditch team, but I swear I wasn't that bad at this... Up!"
The broom rose to his hand and he clutched it with renewed confidence, holding it at his side like a staff. "Do you have any summer plans, then? I wish you didn't live so far away," he lamented, with a groan. A bit of casual chatter, not wanting to give away his agenda too early. He was worried... though he never had cause to be. Plus, it was likely Jack already knew what he planned to tell him. "There's more people in Hogwarts than there are in Walkerburn. It's pathetic."

Flying was pretty much the closest thing Jack had to a passion. Usually, the boy would flippantly wander around trying whatever suited his fancy, as one would expect with Mr. Warren. But instead, Jack lazily lounged on his Silver Arrow and watched one of his closest friends bumble against the small power the school broom maintained over Henry. Leaning forward, the boy crossed one arm over the other on the head of the broomstick and grinned. "Y'know you look like a goose, who dunno how to fly. Just try relaxin'; it ain't gonna kill ya." Right after the words left his mouth, George meteored directly into the earth only a few feet below. "Usually, the goal is to stay on the broom. Then once you figure that out, you could try out for broom racing." Was the only response to George's quip about being better in his first year flying class and demanding that the broom follow his 'up' command.
Shifting from a sitting position, Jack took it on himself to lay down against the slim broom shaft. He made sure to lay the broom against the square of his back and raised his hands to lay gingerly against the back of his head. A single foot was planted on the Arrow while another dangled off the side. The swinging of his foot caused the broom to dip now and then, but honestly, Jack just enjoyed showing off for George. "Summer? I hadn't really thought 'bout it. I just figured I'd go home for a minute and then summer camp. That's when the crazy shit starts to happen. I don't think I could miss that." The boy sighed as he watched the clouds drift slowly across the sky. Lemme tell you somethin'. I still have no clue where Walkerburn is. Like I know it exists, but let's be honest, it doesn't compare to Dublin or London." He continued talking as he waited for George to get far enough off the ground so they could continue their lesson. "Are you sure you wanna buy a broom? Donchya think that might be a waste for you?"

George set himself up in a stiff pose, hunched over and straddling the broom as he prepared to take off from the ground again. He looked up to Jack when the other boy spoke - pushing his tongue out to blow a raspberry at the Hufflepuff flying nearby. "I am not a goose! I would have said chicken. They're flightless, like me," he said, with a frustrated groan as he reset his stance, scuffing his shoes off the dirt as he adjusted his weight on the broom, trying to just hover above the ground. He thought about Willow as Jack jeered at him from his lofty place aboard his broom, and realized just how lucky he was to be alive, considering Jack was one of his best friends and he was still considering strangling the other boy. He clenched every muscle in his body to grip the broom between his legs as he started to float up again. "I AM RELAXED."
George floated by, clinging on for dear life while Jack lounged on his back. "I think I'll be going to camp as well this year. I hate going back home... there is literally nothing to do," he lamented. Hogwarts and Hogsmeade had it all. Walkerburn was basically just a place to study for the next school year while wishing the summer was over and getting annoyed by his entire family. "My grandpa is supposed to come visit us, though. I guess that will be... nice."
The student of flying finally floated up to where Jack could see him, and it actually seemed that he was starting to relax. He laid down on his stomach on the broom, letting his arms and legs hang off either side of the broom, although he kept one hand ready to grab the stick again if he started to slip. He glared downward at Jack as he obstructed the view of the clouds. "You don't have to sound like such a jerk when you agree with people, you know," George said regarding Walkerburn. "At least Walkerburn is near Edinburgh. Jake lives near what? Bristol? He's unvisitable. Not that I would want to, since I'm quite sure his parents keep him in a padded room over the summer."
He leaned over, holding his broom, trying to shift over onto his back to lie down like Jack only to end up hanging upside down on his broom. "Ah, well. Isn't this- hff! nice," the boy said as he twisted himself around upright again, only for the broom to spin him back to the underside. "I really should have practiced more often."
With a final triumphant heave he righted himself again. "Oh, Jack - by the way- uh... there's something I was supposed to tell you..." he mumbled, barely audible as he started to gain speed, looping around the other boy's broom. "You probably already know."

I AM RELAXED is the exact thing Jack expected to hear from somebody who was the complete opposite, but it honestly mattered little. Jack just liked to push George's buttons because he always reacted in a big way. As the boy continued to swim on his broom through the air, he spoke up in response. "Camp? Nice mate!" He would pop up from his leisurely position to look at his friend, "We can totally bunk together!" Obviously, the rowdy boy skipped over the grandparent part, considering that he didn't know how to respond. He never knew his grandparents, considering they were already six feet under. Pushing his thought out of his head, Jack leaned back on his
"Jerk is my default mode, G. You should know this is my default mode. Can't help it" He was sure his answer was just as annoying as his previous comment, but he didn't know what else to say. "Nah, I imagine Jake's parents shove him in a pile of stuffed animals... maybe add a straight jacket in the mix."
"Somethin' you want to tell me? Why are you actin' all weird? Ya'know that you can tell me anythin', so don't get all soft on me-" He spoke, finally giving George his full attention, instead of dicking around on his broom while making fun of his friend.

George smiled as Jack offered to bunk with him, nodding in agreement. "Well of course," he said. Who else was he going to run off and bunk with? Jack made a fun bunkmate, if a bit inconsiderate of the etiquette of shared spaces. Any boy in the Scamander Suite would tell you that George was no better in that regard. They made quite the ruckus when they were combined - but ruckus is what the summer was for, especially at a camp sponsored by the most unsafe school in Britain. "I'll write a letter to mom and dad. They'll be mad I'm not coming home, but... you know, plenty of time for that later. Unless one of the other schools releases a dragon on us or something."
The other boy's indifference to his being a jerk was a bit annoying, but only enough to be endearing. It even made him laugh, a little snicker that grew into proper laughter with the comment on a straight jacket for Jake. That was about right - no sharp edges for the Baby Badger, the same as it was at Hogwarts. God, he wondered what Mr. and Mrs. Morris would ever think if they really got to know the boys their son spent every evening with.
The elephant in the room waltzed out as George's mind mused on the subject of spending the evening with boys. Now was a perfect opportunity. If Jack reacted poorly, George could simply zoom out on his broom and throw himself into the lake. Perhaps the merpeople would make good company. "Uh..." George gripped the broomstick tight in his hands, rocking back and forth on it in a self-soothing bout of squirming. "Uh, well, I just wanted to mention... so you weren't surprised... I'm..."
Like ripping off a band aid, George ensured his suffering was prolonged and the awkwardness of the confession were maximized. "I'm a little bit... gay," A little bit? He was trying to make it a bit less serious than it seemed to him. He shrugged, turning his head away, unable to bear looking Jack in the eye as he murmured out the last of it. "Well.. no, full-on."
