Camp '22 Summer Duelling Funtime Extravaganza, Match: 6

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER DUELLING TOURNAMENT
MATCH 6
────────────────────────
RULES
This match follows the rules of the Duelling System, with some slight adjustments:
  • There are three parties participating.
  • Players fall unconscious when they drop below 20% of their maximum HP, rather than 10%.
  • The team that has no player left standing first ranks third, the second team to have both players knocked out places second. If two or more teams are still participating in the duel when the 12 round time limit has passed, their placement will be decided by higher total health percentage.
  • Reminder that you cannot use spells of your new year, only spells of your previous year (including any acquired with a Prodigal ability before graduation).
  • The following spells have received clarification to adjust to the higher number of players and teams: Fumos, Metelojinx, Lumos Maxima, Cracker Jinx, Ventus
    Reducio
Fumos: The smoke affects four randomly chosen, conscious players (can include caster).

Metelojinx: The caster needs to choose which opposing team to summon the cloud over. If countered by Ventus, the caster can choose which opposing team to blow the cloud towards.

    Lumos Maxima: Affects all opponents

Cracker Jinx: The 20% spread chance will automatically affect the target's partner. If that partner is unconscious, there is no spreading effect.

Ventus: The auto-split will target a random opponent from either team (excluding the original target).
  • If there are any more questions, please reach out.

Jake took a deep breath. There had been so much on his mind lately, losing a best friend, the things that had been said, and going to camp when he really would have rather just stayed home and said he was sick.

The good news was that today he wasn't really able to think about ANY of that, because those feelings had been replaced with nerves about what was about to come.

Jake felt the jitters inside of him as he looked out at all the people. He had a really bad feeling about this...Duels with FOUR people had been hard enough! He'd gone through Alec Mason laughing at the Ravenclaws and starting a fight, and he'd gone through Hanako flirting with everyone, which had been even worse. Now there were going to be six people which made Jake feel very outnumbered. He knew he was supposed to make sure everybody was following the rules but he only had two eyes after all, how was he supposed to keep up?

If only he was an animagus and could turn into something with like a hawk or something...something that had really sharp vision and could maybe follow all that was about to go on at once. "Ahem,"Jake said, trying to make his quiet voice sound louder. He looked around at the six duelists who were going to be taking place in this game."Welcome to the summer games...!" He'd rehearsed this part, because if he practiced enough times he could get through it better without getting nervous and tripping all over his words. As he talked he eyed the others curiously, since there were students in this game who hadn't even gone to their school.

"If anybody has any questions on the rules you can ask me. Just um...remember to play fair everybody. Or...um...or...you know." He wished he was better at talking in front of others, because if he was he could have stalled. But it was time for the inevitable chaos and Jake winced as he raised his arm. "Begin!"

He ran a hand through his dark hair, surveying the scene with a deep inhale to maintain focus on the task at hand. Soon, found his spot on the piste and gave a brief nod of greeting to Mr. Morris, who was their moderator for the day. Akira didn't quite know what to expect, going into a 2v2v2 match for the first time. This setup was certainly not one that he had experienced before, nor had he viewed any matches of this manner. That alone was enough to make him enter the fray with some hesitation. There were simply too many factors to consider -- too many moving parts based upon the fact that you now had four opponents and not merely two.

Additionally, he had never practiced with his partner before, a Miss Kamila Yavlinsky from Koldovstoretz. It was another point of unfamiliarity, though he trusted that she was an accomplished duelist herself, as Koldovstoretz was also an elite school.

"Miss Yavlinsky," he greeted her with a polite smile and a brief dip of the head. "I'm Akira Shimizu; feel free to call me Shimizu. I'm looking forward to partnering with you for our match today. Let's do our best, shall we?"

With that, he straightened his navy Mahoutokoro uniform and bowed to his opponents before rising back up, wand at the ready, as soon as Mr. Morris instructed them to begin. Into the battle they dove.

While it was dueling time, and Kamila was ready. She had been practicing every day for this moment, her moment. Now Kamila had only one thing to do. Win.

Kamila listened as her partner introduced himself. Trying to pay attention to what he was saying even though she really did not care.

"Hello Mr. Shimizu." Kamila greeted him, "Yes, we will do our best. Now let us beat the other team."

Finally, it was time. Let the duel begin!

Adelaide took a deep breath in an attempt to calm her nerves. This was her first duel, so it was kind of a big deal to her. Plus, it was also a 2v2v2 match which was bound to add to the chaos that was regular dueling. She had never practiced dueling before, and she didn't even know her partner that well, which didn't really do much to ease the nerves churning in her stomach. She really, really wanted to do well. She needed to win because she did not want to fail. That was quite frankly the last thing she wanted to do. Though truthfully, even just surviving until the end would be quite a feat.

She could do this. Her and her partner got this. She just needed to stay calm. Taking another deep breath, she straightened up to at least appear confident. She smiled her best encouraging smile at her partner, Gemima, "Good luck, we got this." With that, she raised her wand.

The fateful day had arrived, and Gem was nervous as all hell.
She arrived at the designated venue, feeling quite nauseous, and a little bit lightheaded. This was her first ever official duel after all. She had practiced in the past with Sophia, but her friend was off battling in her own duel. Gem skittered over to her assigned place, highly aware of all the eyes on her person. She took a deep, shaky breath and looked around. New place, new people-- so be it, she might as well try to assess the stakes at hand.

Well, at least her partner was somewhat familiar. Adelaide Barlowe was a fellow Ravenclaw, and Gem had seen her around Hogwarts, though they'd never spoken before. Their opponents were totally unknown to her in comparison.
Adelaide caught her eye and smiled warmly. "Good luck! We got this."
"Right," Gem breathed, offering a small smile of her own in return. "Good luck to you as well."

She removed her wand from her pocket and matched Adelaide's stance. Gem closed her eyes and tried to gather her thoughts.Remember why you joined dueling in the first place! You're more than capable.
She opened her eyes and took one last deep breath. We got this!

Jake braced himself for chaos as the duel began. Sure, the international duelers didn't seem so bad. A little scary, maybe, but they seemed like the kind of kids who followed the rules. Just not like the kind of kids he'd want to be dueling against. The Ravenclaws on the other hand looked like they were maybe feeling as nervous as he was. Jake supposed it must have been a lot worse to be dueling than to be watching the duel. What did you even do when there were so many people all shooting spells at once? How did you make sure you didn't get hit?

But the duel HAD begun, and it began so quickly that before the Gryffindors could even move their arms, spells were flying. The kids from the international team split their aim. The boy, Akira, sent a dancing-feet spell at the Gryffindors, just as the girl, Kamila, did the same to the Ravenclaws. Both Ravenclaws had attacked almost at the same time, but it seemed they were going for the enemies they knew - both spells flying towards Regina Miller, who was now going to find out the worst part of a six-person duel - THREE spells all heading towards her at once!

Regina would try her best, but while she was able to dodge a curse of the bogies sent at her by Gem (probably the worst spell of the three, Jake thought) she would find herself soon sneezing uncontrollably and dancing what looked sort of like an irish jig as the other two spells connected at once. Jake winced at the girl from second-hand embarrassment, but he reminded himself that compared to the OTHER types of duel spells you could get hit by feeling a little silly was far from the worst thing that could happen to you on a dueling platform.

Jake looked up and saw that Adelaide was dancing for joy in success of having hit Regina! Oh wait...that wasn't a joyous dance, it was a MAGIC dance. It seemed the dancing-feet spell aimed at Adelaide had hit its target while her focus had been set on the Gryffindors. Jake watched with some curiosity. All three teams were going to have to navigate this new type of duel and adapt their strategies. Except for the team of guests, Jake supposed, they hadn't even been aimed at. He wondered if their schools ever did these kind of duels.

He couldn't help letting out a small, smug grin as his Dancing Feet Spell hit the older Gryffindor girl. Whenever he faced new opponents, it was difficult to tell how well his own abilities stacked up against theirs; there was always the very real and probable chance of missing and completely laying your action to waste. However, he could tell that his spell was well-cast and his aim was true, and that gave him more confidence -- just a bit more, for a boy who was already somewhat self-assured, though he knew it to be his weakness, and didn't let himself celebrate too much. The grin on his face was controlled at once -- gone the very next second.

"Good cast and aim, Miss Yavlinsky," he said softly, giving his partner the mandatory congratulations, allowing his tone to show some appreciation for her skill. Credit where credit was due. She seemed like a skilled duelist, and didn't seem to be the type to (heaven forbid) drag him down. "Would you like to conduct a... small experiment with me? Shall we keep a mental score on how successful both of us are at casting and evading? Just a friendly little game to motivate us and keep our focus, of course," he suggested, wondering if Miss Yavlinsky was up for the little challenge. From her countenance as she entered the fray, she did seem like the determined -- and perhaps competitive -- type.

It hit! Her spell hit the older Gryffindor girl and Adelaide breathed out a sigh of relief. Okay, she can do this. She's got this. Feeling a tiny bit more confident now that her first spell had hit, the nerves in her stomach eased slightly. Adelaide couldn't help but wince as Gemima's spell missed, "Don't worry," she told her teammate, "just concentrate, yeah? You've got this. Just take a deep breath," she smiled encouragingly at Gemima.

Oh. Oh no. Great, this was just great. Kamila's spell had hit her and now she was involuntarily doing an extremely weird jig. How wonderful. Her eyes narrowed but she still had to try and concentrate on her next move even if her legs were moving against her will. Which was incredibly annoying.
