Bubba felt the breeze gently rippling his brown hair as he walked down towards the lake. The sun was flitting in and out of the clouds while the giant squid floated just under the surface of the lake, allowing the warm light to wash over it. As he continued down towards the lake he saw the leaves carelessly waving back and forth, the grass was short and a lush green, the heat of the summer had yet to turn it brown.

Bubba slowly walked to a tall oak tree about 25 feet from the water. His blue canvas schoolbag was slung over his left should and the bag rested against his left hip. The bag was considerably lighter than it had been the past two weeks, liberated of the burden of all of his textbooks now that the exams were over. Now, things were nice and quiet, the anticipation of the end of the year was creating a buzz in the air. Bubba had until the end of the week to (try) and not worry about his exam results. Part of his mind knew that he'd done everything he could and had probably done reasonably well. The part of his mind he had considerably less control over didn't agree. He was barraged with thoughts of having failed everything and having to leave school entirely.

Bubba reached the base of the tree and sat down, leaning against it in the shade. Fortunately for what little was left of his sanity, a distraction had arrived that very morning. Following History of Magic, his last exam, Bubba had gone up to the Owlery and borrowed one of the school owls, he sent his father a novel of everything that had gone on in his exams. This morning, the school owl had returned with a note from his father and a magazine for Bubba.

Now that he had sat down the took his back off and sat it down next to him. He pulled out the note and the magazine. The note was fairly short, his father said he was sure he had done well and told him he'd pick him up at King's Cross. The magazine had been passed on from his friend's father. It was that month's issue of Motor Sport magazine. While Bubba loved everything about the wizarding world he still missed some things from home. His best friend's father had taken them on road rallies and he loved it. He wondered how odd he would look sitting there reading a muggle magazine full of cars and pictures that didn't move. He really didn't care, he knew that there were some people there that looked down their noses at him because he wasn't a pureblood, but he had been loved where he came from and that was all that mattered.

As the breeze ruffled his hair again, he turned to a write-up of the Rally Sardegna.

It was a nice enough day out, with a gentle breeze lingering in the air. There was some cloud cover, but even then it didn’t completely kill the warmth in the air. Sienna was up in Gryffindor Tower, staring out the window in careful consideration with a book on her lap. It was no secret that she preferred staying indoors to minimize her chances of being around other people, but she did occasionally like to take a stroll around the grounds or sit near the Great Lake and just simply enjoy her time at Hogwarts. As of this very moment, she was debating whether to go outdoors for a few hours or stay curled up inside with her book.

Though her head was telling her to stay put, in the end she rose from her chair, carefully placing a bookmark in her book. Then, book in hand, she exited the tower and began to make her way downstairs. The corridors were a complete mess of students going this way and that, trying to get to their various destinations in such a hurry. Sienna rolled her eyes slightly and wearily stopped herself from snapping at another first year who had just run into her by mistake. Sighing, she finally got onto the grounds and away from the chaos in the halls.

The leaves on the trees quavered a bit as the breeze rustled through their branches. Though there were several students taking advantage of the nice weather, she was ultimately glad in her decision to come down from Gryffindor Tower. She reckoned she spent too much time up there anyways, or at least, that is what her mother would say. Sienna liked it up in the common room, away from chaos and social interactions, but her mother had specifically told her not to hole up there all year. If her mother had wanted Sienna to make a multitude of friends this year, she would be sorrily disappointed.

Slowly, she walked down towards the Great Lake, figuring she could take a walk along the edge and then loop back around and find her way back to the school eventually. The lake seemed, at a glance, peaceful enough. Suddenly, Sienna tripped and fell forward, catching herself just before she hit the ground. Looking up, she saw she had tripped over a blue school bag. Taking a deep breath to hide her annoyance, Sienna got to her feet with her arms crossed. To the owner of the bag she said, ”You really should move that so no one trips over it.” Her tone was pure ice, letting the owner know she was not happy about the incident in the slightest.

Bubba had been sitting there for about half an hour and, while he was enjoying his quiet time by the lake, he did wish he'd brought some water, pumpkin juice, or really any beverage with him. It was starting to get a bit warm and he was getting thirsty. Thirst aside, he was still far too comfortable to get up and actually go anywhere. The cool breeze felt wonderful against his skin and he felt like the light was doing him some good. He'd spent far too much time up in the school between studying and taking the exams themselves. Bubba had the unmistakable pale look of a boy who didn't spend much time outside but, as beautiful as the castle was, he couldn't stand any more time inside. Water could wait.

As he sat there reading his magazine it struck him how much things had changed for him in the last year. Yes, he was still going to school but he'd never felt like he'd belonged anywhere as much as he did here. Bubba was in control enough of himself that he never let his magic show around muggles in his old school, and he was never bullied, but Hogwarts was just different. Here he could truly be himself and fully explore his potential. It was true that he hadn't made many friends but that was because his nose had been stuck to the grindstone.

A few minutes later he looked up from his magazine and saw a black-haired girl walking around the lake in his general direction. Bubba knew the girl was from Gryffindor but beyond that, he didn't know her to say hello to, let alone her name. He didn't mind someone else coming down there to take in the lake. The Hogwarts grounds were huge and there was plenty of space for everyone to get room to themselves. He looked back down at his magazine and started reading an article on the Ferrari 410, he had become absorbed in it when he heard a disturbance close to him.

He looked up and saw that the black-haired Gryffindor girl was standing a few feet from him, evidently having just tripped over his bag. He tried to keep an amused look off his face as she admonished him setting his bag down right next to him, he was indeed quite amused but the look of ice was reminiscent of his mother's whenever his dad told his ditch joke. He was quite sure that his attempt had failed and his facial expression could be best described as half a smirk.

Sienna was extremely upset that she had tripped over this boy’s bag. She had most certainly looked like quite a fool when she had fallen to the ground. Her look of surprise was also detrimental as she did not like being taken by surprise. Trying to regain some of her dignity, she glared at the boy icily. He said nothing and did not move to reposition his bag as she had told him to. Instead, he simply looked at her with an amused expression, not even giving her an apology.

She certainly wasn’t going to give in to him and walk away, so she took this time to more closely observe him. He looked sort of familiar, she had definitely seen him around the castle once of twice. He was a first year like she was, but a Ravenclaw. In his hand he held some muggle magazine, which was open to an article on a car. On first glance she would not have taken him to be so rude and irritating, but of course, looks could be deceiving.

Another rush of the breeze came, blowing Sienna’s hair around and forcing her to reach a hand up to comb it back. The breeze did give a nice break from the growing warm temperatures though. With a sigh, she drew her attention back to the irritation in front of her. He seemed like he would not be apologizing or at least moving his bag any time soon, so she would have to do something about that.

With a scowl, she said, “You know it is rude to not apologize for something that was clearly your fault. Moving your bag even would have sufficed, but obviously you do not care about others, so I suppose I will have to help you along.” With that, Sienna grabbed his bag from its place on the ground and threw the bag directly into the Great Lake. “I sincerely hope nothing of great importance as inside, but now at least, it is safe to walk from the school to the lake without any hazards along the way.” She wondered if he would jump in the lake now to retrieve his bag. It would be a humorous sight to see for Sienna, so she decided to stick around to see it.

Bubba remained comfortably propped against his tree as he watched the girl have at least five different types of aneurysms in front of him because she tripped over a blue bag on a patch of yellowish-green grass propped against a boy with black robes on. This really was just too fun at this point. He hadn't responded at first because if it were him, he wouldn't have wanted someone to laugh at him tripping. He now realized that his first mistake had been actually being considerate. If he'd given her a good chuckle at least she'd actually have a real reason to be annoyed with him.

He recognized the girl in front of him as a Gryffindor that he knew to say hello to and not much more. She'd heard that she was smart but most people didn't necessarily feel bathed in warmth when they talked to her. He couldn't possibly imagine why. As the breeze fluttered her hair and she adjusted it he couldn't help but think she was kind of cute, in a mirror-mirror-on-the-wall-who's-the-fairest-of-them-all way.

As he saw the scowl cross her face he could tell the wheels were turning and he was wondering if he should start bracing himself for a slap. As she broke into another meandering diatribe he let out an airy sigh that clearly showed he had little to no interest in this but was along for the ride. Finally, he watched as she picked up his bag, which was empty besides the letter from his dad, and threw it in the lake. His eyes followed the bag as it landed gently on the surface and then back to her. The look on his face as he calmly looked up at her was amusement, not annoyance.

The bag just floated on the surface, a few feet from the shore. "Well I never, my empty bag, whatsoever shall I do?" Bubba said with a mocking, faux dramatic voice. He pretended to hyperventilate for a few seconds before flopping back against the tree, pretending to have fainted.

The Ravenclaw boy sitting in front of her seemed to be unaffected by her obvious irritation at him. What was worse, he even seemed to be having a good time watching her get angrier and angrier at him. Some people just couldn’t take a hint and others couldn’t be considerate of others. This boy was clearly a mix of the two equally bad choices.

When she started talking again, he, clearly uninterested, sighed heavily. Sienna scoffed at this. How, after everything she had said to him, did he still feel the need to get under her skin. She could easily compare him to a mosquito: a pesky annoyance. She would have said it to his face, but she had a feeling he would find her anger even more amusing than her short rant.

When she threw the bag into the lake, she felt very much better. Obviously she had needed to let out some steam. As it floated on the surface, she saw that there was a single piece of parchment within the bag. A slight sense of satisfaction came over the girl, knowing that at least one of his belongings was in the bag. This Ravenclaw irritated her like no other, except perhaps Bailey Glade. What, she wondered, was it about that house that made her so irritated?

Sienna listened, hands on hips, as he taunted her and finally gave a performance of him faking hyperventilation and fainting at the end of it all. Her scowl deepened. ”What should you do?” she repeated. “Well, I would benefit from you jumping in the lake to retrieve the bag, certainly. Don’t you think you owe me for the previous incident? Go on. Jump in.” Sienna hoped he would, or that she could guilt him into it. Such an act would land him detention if seen by a perfect or professor. She would quite like to see if he could talk his way out of that one.

"Well," Bubba began, as he leaned back up to his seated position against the tree, now in full wind-up mode. "If you hadn't thrown my bag in the lake, I would've used the backside of that letter from my father - don't worry we exchange at least one a week so it's no big loss - to draw you a condescending flowchart explaining why I owe you precisely nothing."

He finally rose to his feet and stood with his back to the tree and addressed her from his full height, "But since I can't do that, I'll just have to explain it to you in a condescending way without visual aids." He hiked his shoulders lazily, "Your loss really."

"So," he began, putting on an obnoxious voice that would be used by a pretentious museum curator, "I got my letter and magazine from the Ravenclaw common room." He pointed up towards the castle without breaking up the conversational flow, "I put them in my bag," he pointed to the bag that still sat on top of the lake, "I then decided to come down to the lake to enjoy the sunshine and read." He turned and gave the tree a little slap, still not breaking conversational stride, "I decided to have a seat and lean on this tree, because it's about 20 feet from the lake, and I figured if people wanted to walk around the shore." He then pointed to her, "You," he put a lot of emphasis on the word and pointed to her, "decided you would also go for a walk down by the lake - lovely idea if I do say so myself - and meandered down into my general area."

He paused for a breath but then continued in the same voice, "I was already halfway through the magazine when you - apparently lost in water wonderland ice queens such as yourselves rule over - walked straight into my bag," he pointed to the bag again, "which was leaning against me," he pointed to himself, "and I was leaning against a tree," he slapped the tree again.

"So to recap," he said, reaching the end of his rant, "You, with literal acres to spare around us, walk straight into my bag and are now mad because you can't tell the difference between a patch of grass and a bag, leaning against a boy, leaning against a tree."

"So in regards to what I owe you," he now put on his best imitation of Gene Wilder's voice, "You get NOTHING! YOU LOSE! GOOD DAY MA'AM!"

”A condescending flowchart? Really? Who even does that?” she scoffed. Oh joy, Sienna thought. He’s going to give me a lecture without his petty visual aids. He started to give her a play by play of the events leading up to the accident and she rolled her eyes. “Are you literally going to tell me what you did all day until I tripped over your bag?” He had to be joking.

It seemed he wasn’t however, as he continued on, ignoring Sienna’s protests. She attempted to stay quiet until his rant was over, so she could have one of her own directed right back at him. As he came to a conclusion, she had to interrupt. ”What did you just call me?” she asked furiously. “Lost in water wonderland ice queens such as I rule over? Really? You Ravenclaws obviously have something funny going on in your heads.” It was no wonder now why all from that house seemed to get on her bad side immediately.

“I most certainly can tell the difference between a boy and a tree!” she said indignantly. “You were on the other side of the tree where I couldn't see you, idiot.” When he bid her good day, she snapped utterly and completely. If her hatred toward the boy could have been stopped at one point, that chance was gone now.

Sienna gave him a sarcastic smile. “Well then, allow me to apologize to you. Clearly you deserve it.” Still smiling, she reached a hand toward him and grabbed him. Without another word said, she shoved him as hard as she could, enough to cause him to topple into the lake. She only hoped it was at an icy enough temperature to give him quite the shock.

Bubba didn't care at this point, he was basically going to start talking to her. He'd played cool but this was the singular most annoying person he'd met since he'd started school. And he'd been poisoned; "YES, That's right! A condescending flowchart. And we're going to start with today but we may have to go back considerably further to find out where this charming disposition came from."

"I called you an ICE. QUEEN." He said loudly and clearly as if she really didn't understand and his slow and deliberate pronunciation will allow her to actually understand him. "As doth pertain to ice." Honestly, he'd met some thick people and some obnoxious people and he couldn't tell if she was one, or the other, or both. At this point he was basically done with her, they were both getting considerably louder, between his own rant that he was now interrupting to argue with her.

"And I meant whatever wonderland but dealing with you is so infuriating I've lost the ability to speak in complete sentences." He spat at her, no wonder he never saw this girl hanging out with anyone. He'd been with her five minutes and he wished he could go deaf just to not hear that voice. At the same time he also somehow kind of liked her and her sass. This was infuriating. But when she said something about being funny in his head he actually laughed. "FUNNY! Very amusing! Coming from a member of the house that's all balls and no brains." All she had to do was apologize for running into him (and throwing his bag in the water). But no, she had to make a big scene.

"Oh I was on the other side of the tree, so what you're saying is if the tree hadn't been there you still would've run into me! Honestly sweet cheeks, you should get your eyes checked!" He shouted at her. His shout was then met with the world's biggest shit-eating grin from her. And a thoroughly insincere apology. And the next thing he knew, he was in the lake. It was really quite pleasant.

At least she'd dumped him close to his bag. He reached out and grabbed it. "Oh good." He said, "The parchment's drier than I am at least."

Sometimes you were just somewhere at the right time in the right place with nothing more than coincidence to blame, and today seemed like one of those days for Samantha. While it seemed a good time and place to be for her, she doubted the others would agree. As a reward for an exam well made and the hours of studying needed to make that possible, the prefect decided to go down to the lake and just spend some time hanging out there. The great view of the impressive lake and the rare surfaces of the giant squid whose home had been Hogwarts lake for longer than the girl had lived, had made the outdoors place one of Samantha's favorites as soon as she saw it in her first year. So it wasn't a strange thing to see her walking, reading, or chatting with some friends near the great lake, which lead to her noticing a lot of what happened at the great lake.

The little breeze played with her hair as she slowly made her way to the great lake, placing one foot right in front of the other following an imaginary line, looking down at her muddy shoes whose original white color had almost disappeared. Her mother would be disgusted by the look of the old sneakers her daughter refused to throw away because they are so comfortable, luckily her mother wasn't here and she could still wear them. In her mind, she went over all the questions and answers she had given to them during the exam double checking if she had done them correctly. Before looking up, right in time to see a dark-haired girl grab a thin boy, she made a little note in her head to check a little detail she may have written down incorrectly on her exam.

When she noticed a girl about 20 meters away using all her strength to push another student down to the lake, her brain imminently forgot about all her exam questions and went into full prefect mode to match with the shiny prefect badge she proudly wore on her chest. As fast as her little legs could carry her she ran to the girl, now completely ignoring the imaginary line she was following before, and watched as the boy tumbled down. His fall was broken by the water of the great lake as Samantha just arrived at the girl.

Her blue eyes shot from the girl to the boy in the lake and a wave of worries hit her, wondering if the boy knew how to swim. Should she jump after him? Her panic levels lowered a bit when the boy spoke, showing he hadn't died yet. The comment about parchment made the young prefect wonder if the boy was okay, as she had no idea what in the world he was talking about. She quickly dropped herself to her knees, not caring if her pants would become dirty. "Are you okay? Can you swim?" she yelled worriedly at the boy.

Her brows furrowed and lips in a tin line, she turned to the girl that had pushed the poor boy into the cold water. "Why would you do that?!" she asked disgusted hearable in her voice. Had she even considered for one second she could have killed the boy if he hadn't known how to swim or if some of the creatures that lived in the magical lake would have dragged him down to the depths of the lake? "Do you know how dangerous this is?" the words sounded like how an extremely disappointed mother would sound after finding out her kid spent 300 dollars on candy.
