"No need to be sorry," Jack was quick to assure Sienna, alarmed that he might have caused more damage than he'd even realized when she began to stammer and apology. "I'm the one who was asking prying questions. I should have just kept my big mouth shut." He tried giving her a sympathetic smile.

"But yeah - I'm not really used to people understanding my aversion to friendship, either. It seems like all most people ever want to do around here is make friends. It can be maddening sometimes." He was trying to think about what he could change the topic to in order to make Sienna feel more comfortable when she unexpectedly opened up about her father and older sister being killed. Jack's eyes widened then. Killed? No wonder she'd had such a hard time talking about it. She must have even had difficulty thinking about it. Jack knew he would have if it had been him.

"They were...killed because of something to do with making friends?" he asked gingerly, wondering if his big mouth was getting too carried away again. Now, though, he was more curious and intrigued than ever. What on Earth had happened to the poor girl?

The lighthearted conversation had quickly taken a turn into a downward spiral. Sienna almost never spoke about her father and sister, and the mere thought of them caused her great pain. She barely heard Jack’s apology as a haze filled her mind, trying to block out the unpleasant thoughts. She felt her eyes well up with tears, but only a single one fell down her face. Quickly, she reached up a hand to brush it away before more could follow.

“I know. It is maddening. Even when I make it clear I want to be left alone, there’s always someone wanting to make a friend or get me to talk things out with them.” It was like those types of people just couldn’t get it through their heads that she just wanted to be alone. It wasn’t like she was asking for the sun, just to be by herself.

Jack continued on, more cautiously this time. She rolled her hand into a fist, and then released it again slowly. This had already gone farther than she had ever wanted it to, but this was the problem with friends she supposed. One of her only other friends she had known since they were children, which had made it somewhat easier to open up to. “Yes,” she spoke softly. “A- friend of my father…” she trailed off.

“You remind me of my brother a bit,” she said after a moment. “You both are understanding and curious. Something I don’t see a lot of. Funny thing though, is that his name is Jack too.”

Noticing the tear slide down Sienna's cheek, Jack felt terrible. He had made a girl cry without even meaning to for once! Granted, he wasn't the direct cause, but it still made him feel bad about it. He nodded when she mentioned that there was always someone wanting to make friends with her or trying to get her to talk things out with them. Well, Jack was not about to make the same mistake. If she didn't want to talk about the cause of her family members' deaths due to a friend of her father's, he wouldn't push her to - no matter how curious he was.

He watched her hand become a fist before slowly releasing itself again and he sighed. Her comment about him reminding her of her brother a bit caused him to smile, though. At least she didn't think too badly of him yet, then. "It is?" he asked, chuckling lightly when Sienna told him her brother's name was Jack, too. "Well, it is a pretty common name. Pretty cool too, if I do say so myself," he added with a playful wink.

Trying to think of what he could do to get her mind off her father and older sisters' deaths, he said, "My older brother is one of the only true friends I think I have, too. It's easier when you're connected in a way that can't be broken easily. He's not my brother by blood, though; in fact, I met him here at Hogwarts. He decided to stop studying magic, though, so I don't see him as often anymore." The boy shrugged. It was one of the reasons he was so lonely these days. "What about your brother? Is he older or younger than you? I'm guessing he doesn't attend Hogwarts either?"

”Mhm,” she replied, nodding her head. She didn’t quite trust herself to talk without crying yet after she kind of completely lost it. She was plenty cold and unfriendly to the rest of the world, but what she had said to Jack just now… she didn’t know why but she found herself unable to be angry with him. Maybe the reason was because she had told him all that personal stuff. Perhaps she has just needed to let go of some steam or something in that manner.

Sienna glanced back to Jack as he continued to speak. “Yeah, it is pretty common, I'll give you that.” Thankfully, no more tears fell down her face when she spoke. She absolutely hated showing any signs of weakness and crying was like hitting the all time low for her. Showing fear was another thing she hated and the deaths of her family members had haunted her for many years now. Two birds with one stone today.

“That’s sweet,” she remarked as he took the subject off of the previous conversation, a thing which Sienna was immensely grateful for. “Even if he isn’t your brother by blood, from what you’ve said it sounds like he’s your brother in all the ways that matter. I’m sorry he’s not here anymore though, I would’ve liked to meet him, she spoke with a soft, nearly invisible smile making its way back. “What’s his name?”

”My brother is younger than me, and no he doesn’t attend Hogwarts… yet. He was practically begging me to take him along this year though. He's more than ready to leave home and come here. Two more years and he’ll be here with us.”

Relieved that the change of subject seemed to be helping some, as no more tears appeared, he was happy to continue on the topic of their brothers. He scratched the back of his head and looked away with a sheepish smile when she said it was 'sweet', feeling a little embarrassed. "Yeah...he even looked a lot like me, too," Jack chuckled softly to himself. "Thanks. I wish you could have met him, too. He seemed to understand people a lot better than I do. His name is Ruka."

He laughed when Sienna mentioned that her own brother was practically begging her to take him along this year. It was like the opposite of Ruka, who had opted to stop schooling at Hogwarts. "Aww, two years is quite a wait. Poor guy. But at least it sounds like you'll have some years here together with him before you graduate," Jack remarked. "And it's great that he's magical, too, unlike some siblings who are magic and some who aren't. Are your parents magic as well? Mine are both muggles." Then he flinched. Oops; there he was talking about her late parent again. He hoped she wouldn't mind. If she did, maybe she could just pretend he hadn't said anything and ignore the question.

Reaching into his pocket, Jack pulled out a bag of Fizzing Whizzbees and offered it to Sienna. "Want some? They're some of my favorites."

Talking about Jack, her brother, not the Slytherin who wasn’t to be trusted around bookshelves, slightly lifted her spirits more. Jack was a little ray of sunshine that contrasted her usually dark and reserved personality. It was a wonder that the two siblings got along so well considering their vastly different personalities.

Sienna smiled at him as he spoke about his brother. It seemed like he and his brother had been close from the way Jack talked about him. ”Yeah, I think there’s a pretty good chance that he’ll try to sneak in the train next year with me. He’s been wanting to come here forever.” Honestly, the only reason he hadn’t tried to sneak on to the train this year was because of the sibling’s mother. Sienna had a feeling Jack would figure out a way in the next two years though.

”Definitely,” she said in agreement. “He would be completely inconsolable if he wasn't magical.” He went on to ask if both her parents were magical or not. She knew that he wasn’t trying to hurt her, but it hurt all the same thinking about her father. Suddenly, she wasn’t in the library anymore, but home in Ireland, when she was much younger. She remembered how she would always try to make her father proud with everything she did, and when he was, it was the best moments of her existence.

She blinked away more tears threatening to spill out of her eyes. Jack pulled out a bag of Fizzing Whizbees and offered some to her. ”What, you just always carry those around with you everywhere you go?” she asked with a grin.

Laughing aloud when Sienna mentioned her brother probably trying to sneak onto the train with her, he said, "I wonder if anyone's been able to do that before. Sneak aboard the Hogwarts Express when they shouldn't, I mean. That'd be quite a feat."

He knew he'd made another mistake when Sienna stopped talking, but fortunately his offer of sweets was enough to distract her. Pleased to see her grinning again, he answered, "Sometimes. It's fun to watch people stare at you while you just float around the halls. I know it's only a few inches off the ground, but it's still fun. Try it!" Jack encouraged, offering the bag more enthusiastically.

From the light that filtered in through the library windows, Jack realized he'd been in the library for quite some time and he hadn't even got any reading done. It was worth it for the new acquaintance he had made, but he wondered if he was keeping her from her own activities. "Um...I should probably head back to my dorm soon to get ready before dinner," he said. "But I'll see you around? I still owe you that favor, after all, so feel free to redeem it at any time."

With a growing smile she replied, "I'm not sure, but if anyone could do it, it would most certainly be Jack. He's got the guts and the brains to pull it off." It would be an interesting day if someone did ever try to sneak aboard the Hogwarts Express. She wondered if the person who snuck aboard would be caught instantly or if they would not be discovered until after they arrived at Hogwarts. Either way, it would be fun to watch.

"It's fun to watch people stare at you while you just float around the halls," he responded to her question. Sienna laughed, unable to stop herself at his comment. She accepted one of his sweets and ate it, enjoying the sensation of floating off the ground after she had swallowed. "You're right, that is fun!" she exclaimed. "Thank you."

Jack announced he would have to start heading back to his dorms before dinner, startling her. She glanced out the windows and realized he was right. They had been talking for quite some time now. She probably should get some studying in before dinner anyways. "Me too. I didn't realize how much time had passed." She nodded and held up the token, "I'll remember that. See you around Burnett." With a final smile at him, she began to make her way out of the library and back to her common room.
