Summer Games 2022
Hogwarts had kicked off the Broom Races with a pair of exciting races. Beauxbatons' influence had started a trend among the other schools. While some were faster to form full teams such as Durmstrang and Ilvermorny, Mahoutokoro and Koldovstoretz were new to the international scene and were still forming capable racing teams. A display of their potential and prowess was demanded by the public as tensions simmered under a seemingly cooperative surface. It was just friendly competition afterall... This was only a prelude to the Hexwizard Tournament, a year-long competition where the schools will vie for title of victor. These victories mean more than one might think, there is a sense of stark nationalism as well as a profession of ideals which wildly vary between the schools. There were wagers and powerful men behind the scenes. Theis was far from a 'friendly race' but there were still the banners and the smiling faces, the children that did not know better. That had no idea they were being used.Date: August 20, 2022

Beauxbatons had a 9-racer-strong team, this being their 'best' unlike even Hogwart's boast-worthy 20. Comparatively it was still five, they were showing off their twenty-man team in this way to intimidate the other schools with their seemingly superior numbers. At least that was the rumor being whispered by the students and the staff from the other schools. That and their unwillingness to stand toe-to-toe with rival schools out of fear or potential incompetence. Beauxbatons' team was almost twice the size of some of the other teams. It was to the French school's chagrin that the organizers had split them between two matches, the 1300 and 1500 match.
"All the better to show everyone that we can beat the best of them on every track" it was said.
Three students from Beauxbatons were assigned to race alongside Koldovstoretz in this race. Koldovstoretz was still reeling from their losses last year. A terrorist act attributed to SCAR in Hogsmeade had taken the lives of a large contingent of their students. Many of these students were in sports such as quidditch and dueling, broom racing had not yet been introduced to their school as of yet but many of the Kodovstoretz faculty claim that these losses also harmed their numbers in terms of the upcoming Hexwizard and summer games now in progress.
They were a world-wide threat some claim. Incredibly capable and not interested in politics or pom and circumstance, they only suffered when they entered the international arena. Some believe that there might even be foul play.
The clouds had receded and the sun was at full force. A blisteringly hot day, many of the spectators in the stands were in dire need of sunscreen or at he very least a fresh reapplication. The day was jam-packed with activities, the first two matches were between the Hogwarts houses sky, a self-indulgent display. The last two were the international competitions and involved the other schools. There was still a humid breeze but with the heat it felt like they were sitting in a bag of steam on this modified pitch. Apparently the Seer prediction was correct, another hot, humid day. The restless crowd was still excited and there to watch the chaos in spite of the heat.
Kabobs were a popular seller at this hour, it was a busy day of cheering and the vendors were selling en masse anything on a stick. The most popular among the over-heated fans with icy fruit kabobs, but there were also some spicy meat and vegetable kabobs. Whirly fans and school pride banners were also. The fizzy drinks had given way to iced tea and water, anything to stay cool.
The race would be 25 units in length, the conventional distance for the average race for school-aged students. The race would take place around the perimeter of the stadium. The early-risers would have noticed the track being erected around dawn. An arboretum in a great ring, great century-old oak that was birthed only this morning. Stony formations mimicking rocky crevice's in the ground that the racers would have to navigate. It was amazing to consider the fact that the terrain could be upheaved in such a way within a matter of hours due to the magic of a few wizards. The ability to mold and transform one's reality was a trademark of wizardry. In a day, all the change magic has wrought would be undone and the earth would be again a grassy, clean pitch and this track nothing but a memory.
The announcer this afternoon was Lazarus Plott (godmodded by the moderator of this thread), the Headmaster of Ilvermorny. There was something off about this flamboyant academic leader, he had taken a leave of absence from his school the months that followed Solomon Lear's disappearance. He had a strange interest in matters to do with Hogwarts but the present impression of the middle-aged wizard was that he had 'moved on.' Competitive, they made an entrance at the Blossom Ball where they capsized several rowboats on the Black Lake in an ill-timed arrival. Yes, an alleged 'mistake.' what they did not know was MACUSA and the UK Ministry have had a number of conversations behind closed doors regarding academics. Hogwarts being a pilot program for how the international community might one day deal with or as they would all it "co-exist" with half-breeds and other magical creatures.
Perhaps the segregation was not inadvertent at all. One of the other schools needs to crush Hogwarts thoroughly and completely in the national scene to prove that superior numbers and a wider breadth of resources did not make a stronger wizarding community. For that, each of these schools would need to work together in so far as preventing Hogwarts from winning...
Lazarus Plott wore jewel-toned robes and gaudy jewelry. A large billowing cape that was charmed to flap valiantly behind him. His dark hair and well-trimmed beard had a smattering of grey, white walls that reinforced the fact that he was not as young as he used to.
The students were given a loop of the course, granting them an opportunity to have a personalized view of thee track they were about to race. The track was difficult, dangerous even but the greatest threat would be the other racers. While quidditch is known for its brutality, broom racing combines both wizarding violence with a dangerous environment and a need for speed. The international audience would be cheering them on and this would be one of the final opportunities for Hogwarts to demonstrate their prowess before the Hexwizard Tournament.

The racers would be lined up. The starting line was a simple white ribbon drawn across a flat stretch of earth. The actual race was a massive loop that would take them back to the starting line. a pair of barrels flanked the starting line, they were filled with "sparklers". In truth they were more akin to powerful, colorful roman candles. They would mark the start of the race. tangerine and silver sparks would rain from these barrels, making a flamboyant, showy display.
"Time for the real entertainment folks," Headmaster Plott would announce with a gesture towards the ribbon starting line. The crowd would cheer as the racers made their mark.
This is the Summer Race between Ilvermorny vs Koldovstoretz and Beauxbatons (3). The three Beauxbaton racers that will be participating in this race are: Amadea Campbell -- Sylviane Favreau (6), Elsa Veronica Bennett - Celine Toussant (4) and Adelaide Barlowe -- Vivienne Beaumont (2).
- The race will officially start on July 20 out of character, meaning stats & abilities lock on this date. It must be approved and added to your trunk by this date.
- Actions close by the end of July 25 out of character for the first round.
- You have access to this thread starting today, however, and you may post. You can also post more than once in a round for banter/interest but this will not affect your rolls in any way.
- This takes place on August 20 in character.
- Your moderator for this race will be Opeila Winters.
- Each round will be 5 days in length open for posting, meaning that the all posts must be made by the end of July 25.
- The word count for sport posts is reduced to 50 words so that players can be timely in their posts. If you do not post in time, the actions you were to perform will not happen and this may effect the outcome of the race.

Stephen was not normally one for nervousness, but he was well aware that this was not going to be like the broom races back home at Ilvermorny amongst the four houses. No, this was going to be taking place on a much grander scale and it was going to take place on an international stage. While nothing had been said directly to the team from Headmaster Plott, Stephen felt that dandy of a peacock would be very displeased if the Ilvermorny team did not make a good showing. It seemed to Stephen that Plott always had Hogwarts under his skin for some reason, but that was not where his focus should be right now.
Standing in the locker room with his team, he high-fived everyone and then did a series of quick knee lifts to limber up and burn off the excess nervous energy. He felt good. He felt strong. He looked over to Michael and grinned.
"What's with the face, Vartanian? You have the look of a dog that is embarrassed to go outside because its owner forces it to wear an ugly sweater. You look great, man. You look professional." Stephen had presented the idea to the team's captain, Nick Iris, that instead of wearing school robes, which presented a real danger while broom racing, that they instead try out the skin suits he had designed. It would make them more aerodynamic and there would be no loose clothing flapping around to snag on limbs or vines. Every little bit of an advantage they could squeeze out against the Beauxbatons and Koldovstoretz teams might just be the very thing that would make the difference in tipping the scales in their favor. Nothing was too inconsequential to be considered as far as Stephen was concerned.
Shortly thereafter, Nick alerted them it was time to go line up and Stephen made his way out onto the pitch. The roar as the teams stepped out was almost deafening. The magic world sure loved their broom sports. Always a proponent of good sportsmanship, Stephen made his way quickly over to his opponents and fist bumped each of them, or those willing to fist bump him that is, while wishing them all good luck. Then he just as quickly moved back over to his spot. Straddling his broom and looking again at his team, he yelled over the crowd, "We totally have this! Prepare yourselves for glory!" and he gave a wide smile in Nick and Vartanian's direction.

Nick gave Steven an high five when he was offered the chance, it was a good day. Admittedly hot with the sun blazing down. He couldn't stop smiling, even if he tried. The team would be racing Internationally. How could he not be happy! Hell he was in London, he almost never traveled out of the States.
Nick would do some final looks at his trusted broom. To make sure that it would fly decently, his Cleasweep 3. He had named 'mop'. At the time he thought it was hilarious, and later released that it wasn't as funny as he first thought. But the name had stuck around.
He looked up to see Stephen talking to Michael, at first he thought it was some practice trash talk. Nope, A compliment. "hey everyone, we got this! We look good, I hope we feel good. And its just about time that we need to be heading out there" he looked in the direction of the door. Nodded to him self as if saying 'yep, time to head out'.
He got up, his 'mop' in hand. and walked out the door trusting that his team would follow. The loud cheers when they all made it onto the court startled him a bit. He did get it together semi quickly, all he heard were welcoming cheers.
He walked to wait at the starting line, And mounted his broom. Stephens words made Nick more confident in his teams skills. "Hell yeah we got this! Remember to watch were your flying " He told Michael and Stephen, they probably remembered. But a little reminder never hurt.

Koldovstoretz Broom Racer
Something that Fedya was starting to realize about Ilvermorny students, in particular, was that they were quite full of themselves. It was typical, as Fedya had begun to recognize that Americans were quite bold. A difference in cultures. It was shocking to see a culture so different from his own, so unique.
As Fedya walked out from the allotted lockers, he wrinkled his nose. Awfully close to the Ilvermorny students. And what on Earth were they talking about? Prepare for glory? Fedya made a face and glanced at the Ilvermorny students. Well, it was never too late for some friend making. Or, at least, giving the illusion of making friends and being kind. "Eh--good luck, to Ilvermorny," he called, giving the others a soft nod and furrowing his brows. "Is going to be a good game."

Broom racing was a huge aspect of Irina’s life. Ever since she quit duelling, she had devoted much more time to leading the broom racing team at Koldovstoretz. Over a year ago every single member of the team that came to Hogwarts besides her died in an explosion set off by SCAR. The memories have flooded back to her many times in the past year, and she was going to win this broom race for them. It was her main goal to preserve their memories.
Irina’s second goal was to beat Hogwarts, because she throughly despised the school. However, Hogwarts apparently wasn’t ready to verse the now incredible Koldovstoretz team, and would rather verse the other houses. Irina was throughly annoyed at this, but decided to use her aggression to beat whatever poor people were versing her.
Keeping a level head, Irina set out on her broom and got in position to start. Looking at her teammates that consisted of Nate and a few other Koldovstoretz students, Irina smiled and nodded. This was going to be a great victory.

Drew didn't participate in last year's broom race, which is why he really wanted to participate in this one. Drew loved the feeling of the wind in his hair, the way that he could just forget about everything happening around him, and the feeling of adrenaline coursing through his veins.
Apparently Koldovstoretz didn't have a big enough broom racing team, so Beauxbatons had to help them out a little bit. Either way, Drew had pride in his team. They were from Ilvermorny, after all. America, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Drew lined up with all the other people, shaking himself out. Okay, he could do this. He didn't think he'd do very well since he was extremely rusty, but hey, one could get lucky, right? And the worst that could happen was a night in the hospital wing, and that wasn't so bad.

Michael lined up at the starting line feeling… how to put it subtly? Like the dumbest, most ridiculous boy of all England.
The cause was more than easy to determine: just like all the members of the Sayre's Sweeps team, he wore his "aerodynamic" uniform, which only reminded him of the ridiculous surf suits that used to be seen on Muggle beaches. All in all, it was the kind of stuff he expected a pureblood to come up with, not a muggleborn.
They must have seen the discomfort on his face, because soon one of his Ilvermorny mates, Stephen, began trying to talk him out of his bitter attitude.
"What's with the face, Vartanian? You have the look of a dog that is embarrassed to go outside because its owner forces it to wear an ugly sweater. You look great, man. You look professional."
"Yeah, like a professional clown." he muttered under his breath in disgust. "Three galleons and twelve sickles that if I wear a red nose I'll get a job at any kid's party I go to from now on."

On the day of the race Alexi was excited to participate in this international race even if he had to team up with the French. he crinkled his nose at the thought, not that there was a school he would be excited to fly alongside. He was here for the glory of Koldovstoretz alone. Still, he would do what he must to ensure victory so he would fly alongside one of the French students and say in heavily accented English, "we have good game, yes?" He would fix the gloves on his hands and test his grip on his Nimbus. "Try to not die," he added, that being about the maximum amount of socialization he would engage in this summer.

Brief History: Born in Kaliningrad to a pair of muggles, he grew up on a farm. He spent most of his early years helping his parents run the farm, they do not have much money but his childhood was filled with laughter and love. He went to a muggle school and he had muggle friends, he is familiar with muggle media and the English language thanks to movies, Marvel in particular.
His years in Koldovstoretz have been centered on his physical prowess, he is stronger than most teens. He enjoys participating in sports, broom racing is his favored sport.
