Alma Stoll had always considered grades a very important thing. This is what her parents told her, this is what her teachers told her, her mentors and tutors, and this is especially what she told herself. She prided herself on her perfect grades and intelligent mind, and when she got something wrong or one of her grades slipped, she always freaked herself out about it.

It definitely had something to do with her family’s perception of her. It was no secret that her mother and father didn’t get along very well at all. This produced a chokehold that only her parents could provide, younger Alma thinking that if she was good enough at a certain subject her parents would have something to bond further over and be proud of her. It seemed easy; being the only child gave her an advantage where she had no one to compete with other than her unmanageable creativity.

She tried sports, which ultimately failed. She wasn’t the best at it, and had a fit every time she would drop the ball or strike out. She tried art, which she loved. However her parents didn’t like this hobby. It would cause her to break pencils and get too frustrated when she couldn’t get the lines just right. So, she joined a private art class at school and began pouring herself into her studies.

She found that she was a great student academically. She got A’s in every class and all of her teachers adored her. Maybe her parents would finally start to get over their silly feud and pay attention instead to their dear daughter.

Of course, it didn’t really have the effect she was hoping for. Her mother and father still didn’t get along at all. The thing it succeeded in doing, however, was making her finally fall into a steady routine. School, homework, study, draw, repeat the next day. School, homework, study, draw, repeat. Now, she had both a creative and academic outlet she could use and enjoy.

Watching her parents fight still gave her that slight ache for a better relationship with them. However, she now had something to distract herself from their petty arguments. She no longer needed their approval when she had the approval of her teachers and mentors. So what if her parents didn’t recognize her accomplishments? She recognized them herself, and that was enough to keep her schedule perfectly balanced.

there's always been something... off about faye simmons. it was like she had this mystifying way to her that was just out of the ordinary, she always acted different. it made her feel like she didn't really exist, like she was only destined to be a footstool or a human desk. her parents discovered this unknown quite early on in her childhood, when she just wouldn't act normal. her mother assumed that it was just her muggle diagnosis, but the darkness seemingly ran deeper. whether it was her clear dislike to people or the clear dislike of others to her, the young girl just wasn't made to fit in with society.

faye did everything all the other kids did. she played games on the playground, she swung on the swings at the park, she hung up her coat in the cloakroom. she did everything just like everybody else, but something always went wrong. in games, she was always the dog or the wall or something insignificant, nobody would want to sit next to her on the swings, there would always be a gap between her coat and everyone else's coat. nobody would want to be near her. it was like she pushed people away when she reached out.

she knew she was different, sure. there was a little piece of paper that confirmed it that her mother fussed over like it was the most amazing thing in the world. but, there was still something unknown. unfamiliar. something that pushed people away from her. she did everything she could to act normal. she began to read books at a very young age, becoming ever so familiar with the paragraphs of a certain book, 'pride and prejudice' by jane austen. her amour for the book was the only thing she couldn't fake, her love acted as a constant reminder to herself that she actually was real, a living person capable of liking totally normal things. she could feel pride and she could feel prejudice... right?

she even dyed her hair ginger. not black or pink or blue like all the other cool kids getting to do what they wanted on their tenth birthdays. no, she wanted ginger. it really made her stand out, sure, because who would ever do that willingly? that was what she wanted. everything faye simmons did was for attention. people would now look at her, past the undeniable difference in her character, and finally see her. not for who she was, but for what she wanted others to see. she pushed back her darkness with the notion of being bizarre, being quirky even. if she stood out among the world then nobody would notice the fact that there was something wrong with her.

still, deep down she knew that she was wrong, and hiding it was just making it build and build, but she didn't care. so what if there was something abnormal with her? so what if she was obsessive and besetting and pathological?

nobody could notice anymore. the presence wasn’t a surface issue.

There was nothing on this Earth, or at least almost nothing, that Marius Jinhao Brown liked better than animals. He loved almost all animals, no matter of different they were. Interestingly, this was also reflected in terms of human interaction, where Marius proved to both himself and those around him that he took interests in diversity and could easily accept people without questioning their identities or backgrounds; as long as they did not treat others badly, that is.

Having possessed no knowledge regarding the wizarding world at all before receiving his letter of acceptance from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Hufflepuff now felt very lucky that he had a chance to get to know the magical creatures in this new world. He absolutely adored the fantastic beasts and could not wait until he got to the third year so he could take Care of Magical Creatures as an elective class, but he was just equally interested when he found out there were... humans who were not exactly like most humans, in terms of their biological abilities. But just as usual, Marius thought they were unique and that was that; for him they ought to have nothing to be ashamed of.

The Chinese-English boy enjoyed checking out books from the library and reading more and more information about these unique people. It was after reading these books that he did not feel so afraid of part-Giants; he finally understood that even though they were big and sometimes had troubles controlling their magic ability, they would not be that careless. The Hufflepuff also enjoyed knowing the difference between a Vampire and a Dhampir, and was able to name the differences between a Goblin and a part-Goblin (at least theoretically speaking, that is!).

He felt sorry for the misunderstood werewolves and for the seers whose ability seemed to be more of a burden than a gift to them. As for part-Veelas, truth be told, Marius did not care much about their charm, but he still respected them and considered them humans, the way he did with the other "half-breeds" and "people with special talents".

But his personal favourite was the Parselmouths, who could communicate with snakes. Even though he was not a fan of reptiles (okay, minus the turtles and tortoises), he still would love to have the ability to talk with them, as they were animals. Well, at least he wanted to understand Parseltongue, and he could not wait to try to learn it once he got more opportunities to build good relationships with the Parselmouths.

It had become quite a problem this year. It had become humiliating. It - being Galton's wand - had become a menace. Mr. Wand, as Galton would call it, had taken to reminding Galton of his control of the situation of the magic. Mr. Wand, who probably wasn't a Mr or a Ms, had increased his antics this year. Over and over spells had blown up in Galton's face; Mr. Wand ever more smug each time. A constant reminder that if the teen did not impress there would be severe repercussions. To the outward mind, this might have been due to a lazy wrist flick, or slurred syllable, but Galton knew it was really Mr. Wand.

The nerve! As if Galton was trying to impress his wand - no, Galton was trying to impress only one being. Well... maybe he was trying to impress most others as well, but he had one he cared most to impress. Toad. His cat was surely ashamed that his barber owner was such a failure in the magic department. With the countless blow-backs he'd suffered in dueling, most of which Toad was witness to, he decided it was enough. They needed to talk.

Mr. Wand and Galton needed to lay some new ground rules. He was a growing lad, no longer the little boy he'd been when Mr. Wand had chosen him. He was able to do some snazzy stuff, like splitting spell, or... almost growing a mustache! The antics needed to stop. Compared to his most recent dueling partner, who he was almost sure could never fail a spell, he looked like a fool. And Galton would not have Toad admiring another duelist's magic more than his own.

Mr. Wand would be brandished, pointed at a practice dummy, and used to spit spell after spell. All the while they would discuss. Galton needed a few promises from Mr. Wand, that he would behave, that he would try to keep his thirst for power to a minimum. Likewise, Mr. Wand needed some promises. Galton needed to kick up the flash, the awe. He needed to try to harness all the magic he had with each cast he made. Every so often during the talks Mr. Wand would throw a spell back at Galton. When he felt like it would stir the boy to greater and greater levels of anger. And it did, for a moment at least. Galton would do his best to not escalate their discussion into an argument. Let's the ventus' wind wrap around him, or the flipendo's brunt force bounce off his shoulder.

It would not be just one conversation they would have. Many discussions (practice sessions) would take place. While to Galton, this was an agreement between Wand and Wizard, it was actually great practice for his form and incantations. Mr. Wand's demands for all his effort resulted in cleaner movement and sharper pronunciation. Slowly, slowly, the antics would die down. They were not gone, no, but they were fewer and farther in between. When Galton felt a little too full of himself, when he tried to brag to Mr. Wand with a split spell, his wand was happy to throw it back in his face. But besides the occasional outbusts, it seemed that the two had struck some sort of deal. Galton would no longer have to suffer Toad's disgusted gaze. Toad may have even been proud of Galton's new control.

You would have thought years of spending time alone would be enough time to learn some valuable life lessons. It would be a lot of time to reflect and correct yourself, wouldn't it? But, apparently, not for Ebony. Sure, she learnt to withstand bullying and other stuff like that. But maybe she wasn't given enough time, or time just wasn't what she needed. Maybe it was company. But over time, she also learnt to be horrible, to be anti-social, to be alone. And of course, cheating and lying was no exception either.

And of course, you wouldn't expect her stubbornness help with that much either. You might think all children are innocent and are learning their lessons. The average child who is so sweet and lovely and cute might admit to lies and cheating and cry and apologise, but Ebony, being the stubborn person she was, would keep all her lies a secret. Ebony learned that fooling people was the only way around -- and being horrible back to other people when they deserved it was the right thing to do. It was something she had learnt over the course of her life, from when she had started to learn how to talk to learning in Hogwarts.

It wasn't to her surprise when the Sorting Hat almost put her into Slytherin, until finally deciding to place her with the Eagles, deciding she was more creative than ambitious. But she still had that side of her, the lying, cheating side and she never let it go. Usually, cheating was her way to get back at people. Her way to get what she wanted, to achieve her goals. It was never wrong to her, because it was part of her daily routine, the way her mind processed -- lying. Cheating. Playing sneaky, mean. It was a reason she had not so many friends. In short, nothing could stop her from cheating. Nothing. She was just too stubborn for that.

Aside from everything, Ebony seemed to genuinely enjoy cheating. It was the pride of fooling people and not playing by the rules, the feeling of rebellion. Besides, it was again a way to get her what she wanted. Nothing was too bad about it. Lying was just a way to get around the cheating. And she enjoyed it; good at it, even. Maybe, it was from experience. Maybe, it was just in her blood. But it didn't matter how she learnt to cheat and lie her way out of things. It just taught her another lesson; cheating brings on winning.

It seems a year away from home has changed Miss Sable for the better. Last September, she was a jittery, awkward bundle of nerves; scared to initiate a conversation, or even eye contact for that matter. It didn't help that these new social challenges came along with a whole new school to navigate. But now here she is, one year down, and looking forward to more!

Gem seems noticeably more relaxed these days. Life outside her hometown definitely isn't as difficult as she had imagined it to be. She still has her apprehensions of course, but unlike before, she has good friends whom she can rely on. She feels at ease in the little group that they've formed. They've all got such a wide variety of personalities and quirks, but somehow, they all mesh together beautifully. Gem feels content when she's with her friends, and then she carries that calm with her even when she's on her own. She hopes that she can extend these sentiments to those around her as well. After all, her friends and family have always been there for her, so it's about time she begins to support them in return.

Outside of her social circles, Gem finds that her ability to hone in on a specific task is also quite easy. It's as if her mind clears, like calm ocean waters, and she can work towards a solution as smoothly as if she were swimming. This mostly applies to her more intellectual and scholarly pursuits, but she's beginning to take up artistic activities as well. Gem gets herself "in the zone" as you might put it, a state of mind where all the thoughts that normally buzz around her brain quiet down for a while. Such focus and tranquility are no doubt contagious, and while Gem may not realize it, those around her will follow suit. Everything she does in that state of mind is methodical and undisturbed.

Gem is the voice of reason in her friend group (for now), and while she still has trouble finding her own sense of calm sometimes, she finds it easy to bring that feeling to others, whether it be through meaningful silence words or simply being in the moment with a person. She's a great listener and is very observant of her surroundings. Her friends will often go to her for advice or reassurance, and she does her best to help them out, and of course they will be there for her in return, even if she doesn't expect it.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Paragon of Health

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): After a year-long career as a quidditch seeker failed, Lamik decided that it was time for something new. The boy chose to enter the dueling scene, where he found quite a bit of success, losing only 1 duel during his 3rd and 4th years at Hogwarts. Quite a few handy tricks were learned during this time, the most obvious example being his figuring out of a method with which he could "split" his spells, aiming at two targets instead of one.

Now, setting two people on fire at once is fun and all, but Hogwarts Duelling is a team game. It doesn't matter how fancy your tricks are if you're facing two alone. Being able to work well with someone, then, and to support them, was his next goal. It was an unfortunate truth that his partner often went down before him- usually, this was because they were aimed at more often for one reason or another, but sometimes it was also just a matter of luck. Regardless, being able to help them would have been a tremendously helpful tool.

How, then, would Lamik improve on that side of dueling? Why, he'd start practicing healing spells, an area of magic that up until that point he would have had very little experience in. In fact, not once during his entire dueling career had he actually used a healing spell in a match. The practice was sorely needed.

Anyways, turns out that Lamik wasn't much good at healing spells. The practice didn't seem to help as much as he would have liked it to. Honestly, it would have probably been better if he had paid more attention in class. The wonderful thing was, however, that it turned out that there were benefits to the training besides improvement in casting. He had shared with his partner and teammates that he was putting a focus on healing. The boy had also chosen to remain quiet on his repeated failure at the training. He'd figure it out eventually, surely.

As it turned out the knowledge that a teammate was focusing on such a subject did wonders for the team's morale. It may have all been in his head, but Lamik could have sworn that the people on his side during training began appearing more and more determined to win, even if the change was slight. The result? More victories, longer-lasting fights, and of course, an unwarranted boost to confidence.

NOTE | This application is forward dated to Ivy's Christmas holidays in her second year, as that is when she will find out she is Part-Veela
Beauty. It was like she was born with it. Skin that tanned perfectly in the hot summer sun, hair so silky, smooth and wavy, eyes sparkling like gorgeous blue ocean. Every part of her face looked like it was measured into her perfection. Ivy was grateful for her prettiness, although sometimes she wondered whether it was a curse or a blessing.
One late morning, only a few hours until the Starlings' Christmas party would begin, Ivy's mother knocked gently on her bedroom door, holding something in her hand.
'I have something to show you,' she began, a slight quiver coming into her voice.
'It's a little too early for my present, isn't it?' Ivy joked, but she would not refuse it, of course.
'It-it's not a present, my darling,' her mother replied. 'It's merely a...'
The young twelve-year old laughed lightly, taking the "something" out of her mother's hand. It was, in fact, a letter. It was in a regular, plain envelope, but the thing that caught Ivy's eye was the handwriting. 'Dad...' Ivy whispered, like it was hard for her to speak the three-lettered word. Digust crept into her voice. Ivy opened the envelope, unfolded the letter, and started to read.
To my dearest, young, beautiful Ivy,
Merry Christmas, my love. I know I haven't been present for most of your special celebrations, and from the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry. I know you might despite me, or even hate me, for all I know, but I'm not writing this letter to ask you of forgiveness. I'm here to tell you something I should have told you from the beginning.
I should of told you this from the moment you could walk, could talk, could hear properly, but things started to get difficult. Your father and mother are both Muggles, as you would of learnt at Hogwarts. You must be, what, in second year now? But here's the thing: I lied. I lied to you, to Natalie, to Sophie, and to your mother. I'm a pure-blood wizard. But not just any old, normal wizard, I'm a Half-Veela.
I know this is a lot to process for your Christmas celebration, and you might not even know what a Veela is, but it is the truth, and this is the truth that separates your mother and me. It was all because I kept this truth secret for a really long time and I have come to realize that I didn't want to keep this secret from you too. You deserve to know who you truly are, my precious Ivy. I'm sure you know what this letter meant. You, my darling, are part Veela.
'I'm part-Veela? Ivy whispered, looking up at her mother. She stays silent. 'I'm part-Veela?!' Ivy shrieked, anger creeping quickly into her voice. 'Did you know? Why didn't you tel me?' Ivy choked, scrunching the stupid letter in her fists. Of course she knew what a Veela was. She read about them in the library at Hogwarts. Veelas were described as looking like incredibly beautiful people, with moon-bright skin and long, silky hair that fans out behind them. They also turn into bird-like creatures when they're angry. Angry, just like she ******* was right now. Like her mother could read the your girl's mind, she said, 'You're still completely you, a beautiful, young, talented witch. You are certainly not-'
But Ivy stood up and walked over to her photo cabinet, ripping the picture of her father off the wall and tearing it to pieces before her mother could finish her sentence.
'So that's why he abandoned me,' Ivy said, sort of in an angry/calm way. 'Because I'm Part-Veela. A freak.' Ivy took a deep breath in, before looking around her small bedroom determinedly. 'Then I'm going to become the perfect daughter that he never was like a son.'

Describe why this fits your character:
Reducio
It feels like every year at Hogwarts brings some kind of new big event or adventure horribly gone wrong when it comes to his peers and the staff of Hogwarts. Plenty of new and intimidating challenges and at times, people who by all rights should be just as intimidating to face, and yet…more often than not Elsian just, well, isn't putting up with it. Don’t get him wrong, from a certain viewpoint Elsian understands that someone or something might be dangerous, with some things it's just plain obvious. No question about it. But for some reason Elsian just doesn’t feel the same wariness or bolt of fear his fellow classmates might feel. There have been times where the boys been startled, or even felt a swoop of anxiety, yet when compared to others you might as well have just assumed he was perfectly fine when faced with danger.

The Gryffindor has never been an easy scare, even when he was younger despite knowing the some of the monster's muggle children feared to go bump in the night were in fact very real in their own way, from giant spiders to hags both written along books pages and whispered in an attempt at scary stories on Halloween, the boy never felt the same anxiety or fear other children might have. No, he was fascinated or bored, no in between. There would be no fear of the dark, or hiding under the covers when the floorboards creaked, Elsian wasn’t afraid of some unseen boogie man and he never would be, fake things couldn’t hurt him. As he grew up this lack of fear didn’t change, the boy remained as unfazed as ever when faced with scary stories or horrible shenanigans gone wrong that could have easily resulted in more than just bruises; reckless his Auntie & Nan would say when he showed up with bruises, careless his Mum would sigh when he ruined his new clothes by falling off the roof into the lake; in a way they weren't wrong. Bravery went hand in hand with recklessness when you weren't afraid of the risks.

But bruises and broken bones could be fixed, scary stories explained away, and distant dangers were just that. Distant.

Perhaps this lack of fear, this reckless bravery, could have simply been chalked up to the boy not facing something truly terrifying. A lack of true danger, something scarier that broken bones or scraps could ever be. Yet, it became apparent as time went on and his years at Hogwarts grew that this would…not be the case. In his 3 years, there have been plenty of horrible shenanigans gone wrong and many terrifying encounters he has either seen firsthand or heard the horrified rumors and whispers about. From the run in with Mosps crashing the secret Blossom Ball, the whispers and injuries from spiders that had attacked common rooms, to the knowledge of the horrors that had laid much closer than comfortable in the Forbidden Forest, like the Hags or rumored acromantulas. Despite all of this, Elsian remains unfazed and largely unworried for his safety, for better or worse.

Another thing perhaps the sorting hat was right about, as bravery seems to be something he has spares of. He understood that what was happening was dangerous and yet, the results of said danger were more annoying than anything. Canceled dances, tougher curfews, the aftereffects were more annoying that the danger itself!

Even as these experiences grew, fear just seemed more trouble than it was worth to the boy, it stopped you from enjoying things, stopped you from failing or possibly succeeding due to being too afraid to even try; so why give in to fear? If he had been scared of trying to hold a spider, he’d have never gotten his pet spider. It was irrational to fear things that couldn’t hurt you, and just as bad to let fear stop you from getting what you wanted, so he didn’t let fear control him. This thought only solidified when he saw the way his classmates freaked out or froze in terror, the way friends hesitated to stick up for themselves or never bothered to try what they loved out of fear.

Elsian began to think of fear as a wasted opportunity. And a wasted opportunity wasn't scary, it was annoying.

Sophie has always been afraid of water, from when she was young up to now. And it's only gotten better since she learned how to swim. When she was three to eight years old, she wouldn't even go near large bodies of water, or even simply just a water puddle you could see your own reflection in it. When she turned 9, her dad taught her how to swim. Though Sophie wasn't even willing to touch it the first few lessons, she pulled it off anyway, after a strange feeling came across her one night.

As most two year olds know, fires are extremely dangerous. Well that wasn't the case for Sophie. She literally tried to cook when she was two, using a stool, then trying to cook like her mom did, then getting a set-on-fire house as a result. Sophie also thought it meant she was successful with cooking, but before she got some disease due to smoke inhalation, her dad put the fire out with a garden hose.

Another incident similar to the fire incident happened when she was 6, she had seen her mother do magic and she thought it was cool. So when her mom wasn't watching, she took the wand and ran into her bedroom and locked it, unafraid of the consequences. She tried summoning something at her, like a book or a pencil. And she heard her mom say 'accio' before. But Sophie didn't know that wand movement existed and she pronounced it wrong. Luckily, she had her lights off, and she mistook a stick as a wand and tried to do magic with a stick. Nothing happened, of course, so she got angry and threw the stick out of the window and stepped on her mother's wand without noticing. That got her into some serious trouble with her mother.

The next thing happened when she was 7, and had a great (or crazy) idea. She loved it when her dad drove her around London with a car (muggle transportation). She liked the trees, the buildings, the places they went around. Driving looked easy enough, you just needed to step on a pedal and spin the circle-thingy (she didn't know what it was called). One day, she decided to "borrow" the car. Her dad went inside to do something and left his car unlocked. She took the chance and dashed in. Her dad had taken the keys with him and locked the doors without noticing Sophie inside the car. Sophie tried to drive but there weren't any keys to start the engine. She thought the car was broken and went to tell her dad but she realised she was stuck in the car. Soon, her dad noticed Sophie and unlocked the doors. She was then, grounded for 2 weeks for trying to drive a car.
