Summer Games 2022

The final race of the day. Hogwarts had kicked off the Broom Races with a pair of exciting races. Beauxbatons' influence had started a trend among the other schools. While some were faster to form full teams such as Durmstrang and Ilvermorny, Mahoutokoro and Koldovstoretz were new to the international scene and were still forming capable racing teams. A display of their potential and prowess was demanded by the public as tensions simmered under a seemingly cooperative surface. It was just friendly competition afterall... This was only a prelude to the Hexwizard Tournament, a year-long competition where the schools will vie for title of victor. These victories mean more than one might think, there is a sense of stark nationalism as well as a profession of ideals which wildly vary between the schools. There were wagers and powerful men behind the scenes. Theis was far from a 'friendly race' but there were still the banners and the smiling faces, the children that did not know better. That had no idea they were being used.Date: August 20, 2022
Time: 1500
Location: Quidditch Stadium
Beauxbatons had a 9-racer-strong team, this being their 'best' unlike even Hogwart's boast-worthy 20. Comparatively it was still five, they were showing off their twenty-man team in this way to intimidate the other schools with their seemingly superior numbers. At least that was the rumor being whispered by the students and the staff from the other schools. That and their unwillingness to stand toe-to-toe with rival schools out of fear or potential incompetence. Beauxbatons' team was almost twice the size of some of the other teams. It was to the French school's chagrin that the organizers had split them between two matches, the 1300 and 1500 match.
"All the better to show everyone that we can beat the best of them on every track" it was said.
The clouds had receded and the sun was at full force. A blisteringly hot day, many of the spectators in the stands were in dire need of sunscreen or at he very least a fresh reapplication. The day was jam-packed with activities, the first two matches were between the Hogwarts houses sky, a self-indulgent display. The last two were the international competitions and involved the other schools. There was still a humid breeze but with the heat it felt like they were sitting in a bag of steam on this modified pitch. Apparently the Seer prediction was correct, another hot, humid day. The restless crowd was still excited and there to watch the chaos in spite of the heat. The combination match involving Koldovstoretz and Beauxbatons versus Ilvermorny was enlightening. For those taking notes, there was much to be learned from that last race.
Kabobs were a popular seller at this hour, it was a busy day of cheering and the vendors were selling en masse anything on a stick. The most popular among the over-heated fans with icy fruit kabobs, but there were also some spicy meat and vegetable kabobs. Whirly fans and school pride banners were also. The fizzy drinks had given way to iced tea and water, anything to stay cool.
The race would be 25 units in length, the conventional distance for the average race for school-aged students. The race would take place around the perimeter of the stadium. The early-risers would have noticed the track being erected around dawn. An arboretum in a great ring, great century-old oak that was birthed only this morning. Stony formations mimicking rocky crevice's in the ground that the racers would have to navigate. It was amazing to consider the fact that the terrain could be upheaved in such a way within a matter of hours due to the magic of a few wizards. The ability to mold and transform one's reality was a trademark of wizardry. In a day, all the change magic has wrought would be undone and the earth would be again a grassy, clean pitch and this track nothing but a memory.
The announcer this afternoon was Lazarus Plott (godmodded by the moderator of this thread), the Headmaster of Ilvermorny. There was something off about this flamboyant academic leader, he had taken a leave of absence from his school the months that followed Solomon Lear's disappearance. He had a strange interest in matters to do with Hogwarts but the present impression of the middle-aged wizard was that he had 'moved on.' Competitive, they made an entrance at the Blossom Ball where they capsized several rowboats on the Black Lake in an ill-timed arrival. Yes, an alleged 'mistake.' what they did not know was MACUSA and the UK Ministry have had a number of conversations behind closed doors regarding academics. Hogwarts being a pilot program for how the international community might one day deal with or as they would all it "co-exist" with half-breeds and other magical creatures.
Perhaps the segregation was not inadvertent at all. One of the other schools needs to crush Hogwarts thoroughly and completely in the national scene to prove that superior numbers and a wider breadth of resources did not make a stronger wizarding community. For that, each of these schools would need to work together in so far as preventing Hogwarts from winning...
Lazarus Plott wore jewel-toned robes and gaudy jewelry. A large billowing cape that was charmed to flap valiantly behind him. His dark hair and well-trimmed beard had a smattering of grey, white walls that reinforced the fact that he was not as young as he used to.
The students were given a loop of the course, granting them an opportunity to have a personalized view of thee track they were about to race. The track was difficult, dangerous even but the greatest threat would be the other racers. While quidditch is known for its brutality, broom racing combines both wizarding violence with a dangerous environment and a need for speed. The international audience would be cheering them on and this would be one of the final opportunities for Hogwarts to demonstrate their prowess before the Hexwizard Tournament.

The racers would be lined up. The starting line was a simple white ribbon drawn across a flat stretch of earth. The actual race was a massive loop that would take them back to the starting line. a pair of barrels flanked the starting line, they were filled with "sparklers". In truth they were more akin to powerful, colorful roman candles. They would mark the start of the race. tangerine and silver sparks would rain from these barrels, making a flamboyant, showy display.
"Time for the real entertainment folks," Headmaster Plott would announce with a gesture towards the ribbon starting line. The crowd would cheer as the racers made their mark. This match would be particularly interesting because Beauxbaton champion Angélique Colette de Clairmont and Yefim Rumyantsev from Durmstrang were both on the track, future Hexwizard rivals. The other teams for the Hexwizard would likely be watching this with keen interest. This will make one hell of a finale.
This is the Summer Race between Durmstrang vs Mahoutokoro and Beauxbatons (6). The six Beauxbaton racers that will be participating in this race are: Akari Kato -- Enzo Delcroix (3), Stanley Buttons -- Sébastien Batteux (3), Lucia Fox -- Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin (4), Santario Martin -- Angélique Colette de Clairmont (4), Lindsey Springhall -- Maximilien de Fostoncy (4), and Dealla Prince -- Raphael Aveline (4).

Summer Games 2022

There were lots of things Yefim was enjoying about summer camp, though most of it was having the ability to flaunt Durmstrang's power. As the chosen champion for the school, one would think the pressure would start to weigh on him as the legendary tournament drew closer. Not so. Challenge and competition fueled him, and he would be at the peak of his excitable energy right at the starting line. From there, he would be allowed to let off the steam of his unbridled excitement through speed and violence. Who could ask for more?
The Durmstrang team would be flying not only in broom racing, but in Quidditch and dueling as well. Obviously he wanted not only Durmstrang, but his chosen team to sing the song of victory, but he was not picky. Though he was obsessed with glory and power, he did not necessarily need it for himself. His close friends, his team mates, and even his school peers were all a part of him. They would get a front row seat to the formation of the new world, as would his mom and dad of course. Revolution had to include one's besties.
Hopping in place the moment he was made to stay put on the starting line, Yefim would arrive alongside his Hexwizard teammates Mikael and Cielle, since they would be walking from the tent they shared together. Whether they could keep up with his bouncing was another question altogether. Looking around at his competition, he would be sure to share a cocky grin to anyone who looked at him, and once his pals were near him, he would whisper things in their ears and laugh. Was it strategy, a joke, or something else? Either way, confidence was not lacking among the proud Horntails.

Mikael walked towards the stadium in his usual stoic mood. A sharp contrast to the overflowing joy his friend seemed to be experiencing. To be fair at this point he was rather used to it. Sometimes it was as if they were night and day with how different they were. Though, Mikael would not have it any other way. Yefim's confidence was something he found himself appreciating. Their last broom race had gone rather well despite him getting stung by that drasted wasp. He hoped to make it further this time. Though, as long as someone from Durmstrang won he hardly cared. Mikael was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant Yefim could fly further, and possibly win. It seemed only right.
The boy's broom was held against his left side his knuckles turning white from the harsh grip he held on the wood. Mikael took his time making sure to not accidentally hit the bottom of the broom on the ground. He had a fairly good reason for his carefulness as the broom was new. Something that Mikael was not used to getting. The boy wanted to avoid it getting hurt at all costs. Maybe Broom Racing was not the best place for his new broom. Probably hanging above his mantle polished to oblivion seemed better. But alas he had to trade in his old dusty broom that had been sitting in the attic for who knows how long.
Once the trio had arrived at the stadium he would turn to Yefim to show him his broom. No words would escape his mouth as he merely gestured the broom towards the boy as if he was saying 'look'. His brows would furrow as the other would lean in to whisper something into his ear. Mikael barely contained the confused look that wished to spread across his face, and instead nodded as if he had heard the most serious thing in his entire life. Though, inwardly he wondered what the hell 'Lubba' meant. «Задай им жару, Миша! Вот так рождаются легенды, Фима!» (“Give ‘em hell, Misha! This is how legends are made, Fima!”) Mikael's gaze looked up towards the crowd spotting the white-haired boy he had found himself drawn towards these last few months. Unsure what to do the boy would raise his hand before bringing it down in a few short seconds. Mikael would turn back towards Yefim and Cielle with a serious expression. Let us bring victory one way or another for Durmstrang. he would say in a hushed voice clearly spoken towards Cielle and Yefim only. "smi mens jernet er varmt!" {strike while the iron is hot} he would call out his brows furrowed and dark anger across his face.

ReducioWhen attempting to use the return to broom action, this is a free action (meaning both users can make a normal action) the rider and ONE passenger (if there are multiple sharing the broom, it would cost both of their actions to return them to their broom also) can retrieve a single broom. ReducioThis broom can carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance. ReducioIn the role of Seeker, if an opponent attempts to Bludger or Blatch you, there is a 20% chance that you veer out of the way the last second and another enemy player at RANDOM is targeted instead.
Note: The new target still gets their normal dodge attempt. This is not considered to be an auto-dodge, in fact this roll is done before any accuracy rolls are done.
B R O O M"Mio dio! Dear lord! In the name of the 'ouse of Juicy Couture is it scorching in 'ere!" The tall Durmstrang boy exclaimed as he entered the pitch clad in a velour track jacket from the same house whose name he invoked.
Kheanu Maravilho Mondelez fanned his face delicately with one hand while the other loosely clutched a wand that was magicking his broom to levitate one foot behind him. The said broom was an antique, passed down from some great-great-great-great aunt something or other, to him who—among his whole ancestral line—had the affinity for brooms and its related sports. His other brethren seemed to take more easily to the venture capitalist side of his family name. Most of his other younger cousins found athletics tedious, while his brother, Nikolai—though supportive—thought there were better uses for his time.
The long-haired boy disagreed. Any sport that allowed him to perch regally on a priceless antique while looking stunningly gorgeous sounded well worth his time. The appreciative—bordering on envious—stares definitely were.
Giving his teammates a nod in passing (if it were him, this sport would have been solo), Kheanu held his broom aloft and gently parked himself sideways onto it like the self-proclaimed monarch he is.———

Cassie was ready. She'd never participated in an interschool race before, but nobody could dare say she didn't deserve to be here, if only from the amount of practise she'd done leading up to the event. Sure, it was a team race, so Cassie had to actually look out for her teammates, but... whatever. If Cassie had the chance to get herself across the finish line, she'd take it. Even at the expense of her teammates. Maybe she wouldn't tell that to her teammates though.

Sébastien hadn't bothered to participate in any of the small events that had been planned for the summer. He didn't want to take part into useless situations that would not help him with furthering his education and path in broom racing. The only reason he had to Hogwarts yet again was for the broom race. They had won last time! It had been a magnificent win.
Berry could take part of the credit of Angel making it past the finish line. He had taken part in an action that caused that win. "It's just like last time." He muttered to himself, "Just stay calm and remember we can do this." The boy grabbed his new broom and stood waiting for the race to start. Waiting to prove to his grandparents once again that broom racing was for him.

coraline was originally signing uo for quidditch, but she noticed how the broom racing team had only one person. So she signed up for that and decided to be the quidditch team's biggest fan. Unlike every one on her team, she had a school broom. She felt a bit unsure about this, since it wasnt as fast as everyone else was. Not to mention, the other team were scary older students with good speed and a lot more spells. But coraline just had to trust everything will end up well. This morning, she has put on her key necklace as good luck. Keys were a symbol of good luck after all. She walked into the stadium, looking around. It was very hot, but she didn't mind. She knocked on the wooden handle of her broom and smiled at her team.

Her friends were often pre-occupied with other things: Ayako with studying, and Hiro with his other group of friends that probably weren't really interested in broom racing either. Even though she made the effort to watch every one of their quidditch games.
Instead, she approached the rest of the team, broom in hand. The representatives for Mahoutokoro were rather lacking (just her and another fellow second-year), so they had been merged with the Beauxbatons team, which admittedly she knew little about. Though their team did sport the infamous Beauxbatons broom racer/hexwizard champion, so she supposed that at least one of them would be good. Aside from herself, obviously.
"Be careful," she warned her fellow Mahou flyer. "These Beauxbatons students may have it out for us. But we will make Mahoutokoro proud. We will not go down without a fight."
"Good luck." She then briefly addressed the team. Since they were working together, she had the courtesy to address the rest of the team, despite preferring to fly ahead alone. This race would definitely be different to what she was used to back at Mahou.

So, this was it. First interschool broom race ever, first time officially on track. Maxi couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous - after all, this was new. Yet he had full confidence in his fellow teammates and himself, those countless hours of practices should pay off somehow. This was Maxi’s first race, and he didn’t want to leave any regret. He’d be 100% concentrated today, leaving aside those daydreaming and unrealistic thoughts. Wand out, broom on - ready.
Beauxbatons was the reigning champion, and them winning again was right up Maxi’s alley - school pride! - since he did not see why they couldn’t. Even split into two halves, Beauxbatons was still skilful and mighty on track, not to mention they were joined by two Mahoutokoro players as a bonus. Tightening his grip on his broom, Maxi stepped forward. “Best of luck.”

(Slightly) interacting with Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin (@Lucia Fox)
It was the day of the race, and Raphael had spent most of the day by the racing track, watching the other races. Theirs was the last one, before that, there had been two races with only Hogwarts students competing, and then the one in which some of his fellow Beauxbatons students had faced off against Ilvermorny, the American school, with the support of a few racers from that Skandinavian school... what was it called? Koldorstov? Something unpronounceable like that. It felt like it required his tongue to twist in ways it wasn't meant to; English was hard enough. Raph still wasn't quite sure how he felt about their team being split in two and put into teams with students from other schools, people he'd never met before. While he didn't like or even really know most of the other racers from Beauxbatons, at least he knew their skills. He could work with, or around that. The two racers from the Japanese school were wild cards.
He'd left the race track for the breaks in between races, had eaten lunch, taken a short run to warm up, and stretched to loosen up his muscles. Then he'd spent the remaining time watching the others arrive. Cassie received a vague wave as a greeting, the others barely a nod in recognition. Raphael was a loner by choice.
The Durmstrang team was smaller than their own due to the two additions from Japan, but they were certainly not to be underestimated. They had older students with them, although most of them seemed to be around Raphael's own age. Their snickering received barely more than an apathetic glance. He supposed that they were intimidating, although he didn't really feel that way. If anything, he was eager for the challenge.
There was an energy coursing through his veins that only came with sports competitions, a focus that even now was starting to tune out the surrounding chaos. He was here, his broom, the track. Team mates and opponents, vaguely, as much as they might be a helpful hand or an obstacle for him. Everything else was irrelevant.
It was hard to sit still at this point, his body urging him to move, so he hopped off the stands, took his place at the starting line, and mounted his broom. It was time to fly.
