These grounds were familiar, albeit from a bird's eye view. Just two years back she found her way here, a teenager a little too full of herself on a monster-hunting quest - a fiery streak indeed. Sent by her grand-aunt Astrid, the aging woman in hope of a legacy. It would have been a simple task clearing the room of doxies if only she weren't joined by another. Then injured hobbling down to the nearby playground in search of some aid. A story for another time. Now, she manoeuvred down towards the

This exact playground brought back memories, of those once forced into the recesses with a spell cast by her mother after an accident that brought upon her brother's demise. Aurelia always wondered why her mother would send them to a muggle primary school instead of homeschooling like most aristocratic purebloods instead. But now, grown-up having acquired better answers, it was an odd way of protection, to hide the last Notresvace child in the muggle world. And what's a better option to erase the child's memories of any association with muggles than with a simple spell.

Returning to the ground to continue on foot than on wing, it took a while to get directions to the property, it wasn't a large neighbourhood she presumed. A few minutes walk under the sweltering rays of the sun it took to get from the playground to the house she was searching for. Knocking thrice on the door, she was shortly greeted by a man. But as quickly as they were to answer the door were they to turn her away. A mumbled apology and a hasty explanation along the lines that the boy was not home and that they didn't want magic around. The exchange took barely a second, Aurelia never so much as managed to squeeze in a few words. Nevertheless, it all fell into place as to why she hadn't seen the Slytherin around the entire year. It made sense. His parents were muggle... or so they thought.

With the door shut and her presence not welcomed, Aurelia was slightly dumbfounded, but she sure wasn't one to give up too easily. Trespassing wouldn't be considered an infraction if she was a bird, would it? Soon, with a few flaps of her wings, she'd slip through an open window above in silent flight, finally away from the summer heat.

A man whose likeness resembled so uncannily the one Aurelia sought, answered the front door. A cordial greeting at first, oblivious to the origins of this wayward stranger, followed by a flash of surprise across the summer blues in his eyes, after studying the girl for a moment, processing her voice and request concerning his son. Yes, Mr. Vance remembered her. The face of the witch who went to Andrew's old school, alive and well, since last he saw her.

"Sorry, he's not here." With a cold tone, Mr. Vance guarded the entryway, staring Aurelia down. "And, uh, we don't want you or your kind here ever again." He flicked a curt smile, shutting the door and fastening the locks behind him. Eye lingering at the peephole, watching Aurelia walk away and turn a corner down the sidewalk, vanishing from his periphery.

No way would he allow magic back into the house, or anywhere near his son.

A glimpse into the room of the first window above, screamed "crazy horse girl" if ever there was one. Purple accents and lavender walls, show ribbons and horses of every medium - stuffed, plastic, painted, photographed. If Aurelia were searching, at least the second window was the better assumption of a boy's den, the one she landed in. Blue walls and neutral tones, a pair of dumbbells in one corner, posters of fighter jets. A shimmer of brown-green scales reflected in a betta tank on the desk, while a rustle came from a large wire cage - a gray rat startled by the winged predator, scurrying about. Another strong sign of the boy Aurelia was looking for, if Penelope were recalled. If owl eyes could distinguish one rat from another.

No longer than a minute or two of waiting, a barefoot figure would appear at the open doorway, wearing sweat shorts and a tank top. Damp hair, the fresh scent of soap clinging to his skin, new etches of muscle broadening the fifteen-year old boy's arms and shoulders. Made sense Andrew wouldn't be the one to answer the front door, if he were occupied in the shower, unaware of the meeting that had transpired downstairs.

After his workout, he planned to lounge about the house during the afternoon peak of summer heat, tending to the pile of homework printouts and RAFAC booklets scattered on his desk, and checking the wall calendar, summer camp outlined with various red circles and yellow highlights. He looked forward to reuniting with old classmates and friends in the upcoming school year at Bower Park. Until then, he'd wrap up the rest of his homeschooling term with Overland. After missing out on so much, being away for so long, all he wanted to do was soak up relaxation at home, and catch up on family time.

His mother was at work, his siblings at school. His father also at work, shut inside the master bedroom, typing away at the computer. Andrew hopped out of the shower, dropped off his clothes at the washroom, and returned to his bedroom. A glancing sweep around the room, his attention snapped to the large bundle of feathers perched near the window, a pair of round yellow eyes freezing him in his tracks.

How...? His heart stopped.

Owls this close to home were only associated with one thing, yet the creature's beak and talons were empty. Was it lost? Or was it a spy? The latter hunch shook him to the core. Surely the Ministry would continue keeping tabs on him and his family, not trusting Muggle-borns and Muggles with maintaining Secrecy.

Grabbing a spare blanket from the closet, Andrew unfolded it, holding the cloth as a barrier with arms stretched wide. He stepped forward slowly, attempting to direct the owl back out towards the window.

"Oooh-kay, birdie," he crooned, trying to keep his tone low and calm. "Thaaat way. Back. Baaack."

Last thing he wanted was the owl to start flying havoc around his room. Seeing one still triggered war flashbacks of the countless times he had to dive in and save Penelope from hungry owls, notably the one on her birthday. At least this time, the rat was safely secure in her cage, for Andrew not to worry about.

As Aurelia waited, she inspected the room. There were posters of planes on the blue walls, things she studied in muggle studies transport syllabus. The scuttle in the cage at the corner would summon her attention. The rat. How could she forget the rat that her pet owl almost devoured for lunch that fine day a few years back?

The animagi only waited for a few minutes before the boy appeared. Clearly taking a moment to register the large owl perched near the window. Although she couldn't tell for certain given her naturally short stature as an owl, Andrew grew. And, oh, those biceps... (although nothing compared to Hadrian's with his 19 str). Andrew in a tank top was quite pleasant to look at, claiming otherwise would be acknowledging her own denial.

No, Owleia was not about to leave just yet, but nor was she to reveal her human identity so promptly. Evading the boy's makeshift barrier. Extending her massive wings, she'd fly across the room to perch on his desk chair, the force of her flapping wings sending blows of air to scatter the pieces of paper off the table. Tilting her head, she cooed, feigning her innocence and lack of comprehension.

Gah! No no no! Andrew retracted a few steps back, startling at the owl's ascension. Hands still clutching the blanket, he raised his arms to shield himself. Bracing for impact, a flurry of beak and talons at his face or the clatter of lamp and pen holder being knocked over. He was about ready to call in his dad as emergency backup.

The rustle of feathers quickly settled again. Andrew peeked out from behind the blue velvet to see the owl perched on his desk chair, tilting its head at him. Apparently, it couldn't seem to take a hint.

Dumb bird.

He sighed in resignation, shaking his head to himself with a wry smile at the owl's antics. Those big ol' yellow eyes were giving him the cutesy stare, though it was no pygmy owl for him to not resist petting it, at first. Ugh, whyyy? He wasn't too keen on sharing his room with this cheeky creature, but so long as it didn't poop or make any more mess on the floor, he supposed he would have to be a bit more patient with guiding it out. Or figuring out what it wanted.

"What are you up to, birdie?" He laid the blanket on the bed, then started picking up the scattered papers, one by one. Slow, calm movements. He skirted around and grabbed a stapler from the desk, using it as a paperweight for the stack of papers he set on the dresser at the opposite wall, in case the owl took off again. He still didn't know for sure if this was a wild owl or magical one. He would sooner deny his hunch for the latter, hoping that world was behind him. That it was all just a dream. Though the former would be just as equally surreal, heart pounding as he drew closer to the owl and reached his hand out.

It had been so long since he last touched one. Handling owls had been a regular occurrence in the Owlery at Hogwarts. In fact it was Aurelia B. who had first showed him how, sending off his first letter home. Since then, he had become more comfortable with handling them on his own, though visits were often short with Penelope around. Still, he found that owls were quite like cats with wings. He already knew how to pet a cat; he had two at home.

His hand would pause, waiting for reception, then gently stroke the owl's cheek, working his way around the head, letting the owl lean into it and show him the sweet spot: right behind the "ears", the little horned tufts. Such a stress reliever, caressing the fat ball of brown feathers.

With an extended hand, Andrew took the bait, appeasing the fluffy owl with some scritches, earning a coo. Right there. Naturally, being the first ones to learn of her animagi identity, Hadrian, her betrothed, was the first to pet the owl, which she quickly learnt that she thoroughly enjoyed head rubs. They were hard to come by. While Aurelia would gladly allow the former Slytherin to scratch her all day, they had business to get to.

Seizing the moment when his hand was right on the crown of her head, she morphed in a split second, the speed of the entire transition only appearing as a blur. Silky brunette hair now tousling in a graceful waterfall down her head and stormy blue eyes rather than the large stunning golden ones. What was a fat fluffy owl on his desk a second or two ago, now sat a teenage girl, her legs crossed. "Well, don't stop," quipped the sixteen year old, a complacent smirk upturning a corner of her pretty lips. "Missed me?" She added, prodding at the poor boy.

Sliding off the table, she began to walk around the space, as if inspecting the room a second time, taking the visuals in the larger spectrum - and colour - of human sight. "This is where you've been cooped in for the entire year? No goodbye? I expected an owl, I was concerned." Her presence, suppressed in her owl form now bled into the air, sending a ghastly chill around.

One moment there was an owl in front of him, the next a human girl. Andrew yanked his hand away and jerked a step back, eyes wide in disbelief, moreso at the witch than the transformation itself. Aurelia?

"Missed me?"

Her nonchalance grated like nails to a chalkboard under Andrew's skin, snapping him out of shock. Agape jaw clenching down as a thousand emotions welled up. Anger…confusion…disgust…fear. Not just from the aura exuded in the room, but from all he had buried with the past.

To even think about opening that can of worms again…was exhausting.

"Oh, come on." He rolled his eyes, partly at the universe for making him miserable so, partly at Aurelia for her deception. Andrew was not amused. Embarrassment fleeting, consumed by frustration and paranoia at being stalked. I'd ask you the same thing, he nearly scoffed at Aurelia. With a tired scowl, he busied his hands, stuffing the blanket back in his closet and a few strewn garments into the dresser and arranging papers on his desk. He shouldn't even be surprised anymore. To think he could cut off all magic that easy.

"This is where you've been cooped in for the entire year? No goodbye? I expected an owl, I was concerned."

"Go. away," was all the boy muttered firmly as he turned his back, having reclaimed his desk chair, before placing a set of black headphones over his ears. Absence of music allowing him to hear his own thoughts while blocking out the surrounding ambience. Andrew would attempt to do what the average hormonal teenage boy could not when alone with a pretty girl in his room: Ignore her. Eyes glued to the computer screen, staring a moment too long at paragraphs of text while scrolling aimlessly through his assignment references. He pretended to read. He tried to read. Meanwhile the argument in his head continued with Aurelia. An owl? He didn't owe her anything. Concerned? Yeah, right.

Just ignore the voices, the ghost in his head, and maybe she'll disappear.

The boy's hand would withdraw from her hair so quickly as he griped at the revelation of her deception. No other comment about her animagi form was stirred. Barely any eye contact was made as the Vance boy hastily moved away to busy himself and more importantly, to avoid the pretty lady. A sound, a mingle between a scoff and chuckle was made at the boy's mumble for her to get lost. "I have only just gotten here, I don't see the rush." Aurelia was terrible, invading his home and now refusing to take her leave. Wandering to the cage across the room, she stood by bent slightly to inspect the occupant within. The grey rat.

Aurelia would give a glance over the shoulder to see Andrew seated by his study table and a set of headphones over his ears to tune out whatever more she had to say. Suit yourself. Unconcerned that Andrew heard her, she opened the cage luring the critter out took a while, but eventually she did. Animals didn't seem to like her, they were often at unease, but so were many people. "Got you." She muttered under her breath as she captured the Slytherin's pet.

Drawing her wand out, with a wave and incantation, the proficient witch transfigured the squirming critter into a fancy silver goblet. She'd the shiny thing on the boy's table. Now the Gryffindor girl was tormenting the poor younger lad... and she was only getting started. It wouldn't take too long for him to realise what she brought to him - if the former Hogwarts student even remembered his prior magical schooling. Using magic in a muggle household was already a breach of the statute, not that Aurelia minded much, after all, this wasn't her house. "I want us to talk. After that, I'll give you your rat back and leave. And we can both get on with our lives. Easy."

Even with his back turned, he could feel her in the room, every inch of air stirred in his domain. Why was she still here? He groaned inwardly. They weren't even friends! If his intent hadn't been so clear at the Lake, wanting her gone, how much plainer could he be?

A glint of silver caught his eye, planted next to his keyboard, detracting his focus from the computer screen. "What?" He said irritably, turning to face the girl who wasn't about to take "get lost" for an answer. Removing his headphones, a glance around the room quickly snapped to the blaring obvious: A cage door left ajar. He stared, piecing two and two together.

Penelope missing, and a goblet he hadn't noticed around the house before.

His heart dropped to his stomach.

"I want us to talk. After that, I'll give you your rat back and leave. And we can both get on with our lives. Easy."

He didn't fear for Penelope's safety so much as his own, in that moment. The rat was likely safer as an inanimate object from whatever showdown Andrew had conjured in his head, battling against an unwanted trespasser. The audacity that Aurelia would blackmail him, threaten him in his own house, disrupt his peace, handle his possessions without consent, get him and his family in trouble with the Ministry! And for her to act as if it were cute? Just about had him trembling in fury, nails digging into the leather armrests.

He couldn't let her get away with this. Someone had to knock that entitled princess down a few pegs, a few floors, a whole skyscraper. He pushed her off a ledge once. He'd gladly push her out the window, too. Unless that was what she wanted. Perhaps Aurelia was a masochist all along. Depriving her of attention, of emotional outbursts, was all he could do to keep the situation under his control. For now.

"Then talk," he growled, nearly sighing in exasperation. "What do you want?"

Before Aurelia could withdraw the goblet, Andrew's hand would seize the neck, planting it firmly down on the desk. Grip unyielding, he'd shoot Aurelia a stern glare of defiance, not letting Penelope out of his grasp. No way did he trust Aurelia to do right by his precious pet. He could just as easily reverse the Transfiguration himself. Slowly, his other hand would reach for a drawer below, feeling around, pulling out a chestnut red shaft of wood which he idly let rest on his desk. A subtle brandishing of weapon, trigger finger at the ready. Part of him itched for Aurelia to point her wand at him, to unleash his pent-up adrenaline and ire. Magic had already been done. Might as well indulge in a few more spells to make the Ministry's punishment worth his while. At any ease to his conscience, he would only be defending himself, after all.

Just like Jack, who had attacked him first. He'd give Aurelia a nice little scar to remember him by, too.

The expressions returned were not cordial. With Aurelia pushing his buttons in every which way. First invading his home, now threatening him. The Gryffindor thought they had something between them, Andrew would have at least sent her a small notice before disappearing from school. Then again, she did the same when she ran away a semester ago, taking the train in the Kings Cross that was not the intended Hogwarts Express. But now to find Andrew in his own home, she was supposedly lucky - while Andrew would find himself otherwise.

The girl held the goblet in her hand, index finger against the rim, spinning it slightly till Andrew reached out to hold it in place. Corners of her lips upturned into a smile, as he agreed to talk with her. Headphones were no longer against his head. But what he drew next was unexpected: his wand. Aurelia wouldn't have thought he'd kept it with his leave of their magical school. But Aurelia was looking to talk, a clash of wands wasn't. From her side, Aurelia drew her own wand.

Aparate.

With a crack of wind, she was transported to the further end of the room, with the goblet in her hand. An animagi - who knew how to apparate. She would be lying if that feat wasn't just to impress Andrew with a show of her skillset. The distance allowed more variability to dodge any spells if Andrew were to recklessly throw her way. "You're a muggleborn." She said, moving to take a seat at the corner of the bed. "A few months ago, in the abandoned bathroom, I saw a name vandalised on the walls - Dean Vance. Almost missed it with how small and secluded it was. " It was likely a long time ago, with the date that accompanied. 1985. A generation younger.

"Does your father's name happen to be Dean?"

Metal slipped like air through his fingers, the goblet and girl vanishing from sight. Blinking as if taken aback by a mere trick of the light, Andrew's head whisked in the direction of Aurelia's amorphous trail, to the far corner of the room, where the girl warped into being once more.

How did she...? Oh. Right. He remembered, not expecting to encounter the theoretical so soon - if at all, beyond the magical veil of his Muggle community. What he had only read about in books, of a long lost aspiration he had forsaken months ago. Perhaps a twinge of jealousy… Or was it regret?... Realizing another world, a time and place that did not stop for him, simply because he willed it to when he "woke up" and walked away from it. Face to face with his old acquaintance, what Aurelia had accomplished within that time, was all too gut-wrenching of an accusal of what he had done to himself. The feeling of being left behind… No. You left nothing good behind. Stubbornly, he dug his heels in, convicted that what he had done was for the best. For himself, and his family. Remember the pain. Remember the Curse.

Swiveling his chair around to face Aurelia, his lips pursed into a thin line. Once again, Penelope was out of his grasp. His frustration, daresay despair, had just about reached the tipping point, only to simmer down in cold guardedness when Aurelia brought up his heritage, along with a familiar name. Dean Vance.

"No," he growled, almost defensively. Even if his father was Dean, he might have denied it anyway out of spite, chafing at any ulterior motive Aurelia posed against him. "Now hand her over." He rose from his chair, narrowing the gap between him and the goblet held hostage by Aurelia. His gray blues met hers. "…And just admit that you miss me." A slight headshake and humored smirk eased up on his countenance, having been tried impatient. This was getting ridiculous. "Lying sure is the long way around," he nipped back with a glare, not buying into her story one bit. The odds that she would stumble across some ancient Vance graffiti, shortly after he left? What a coincidence.
