EXPLANATION
Reducio
Students have been separated into semi-randomized groups (12 or 14 per group, partially weighted by year)
Each round, Students (ICly) take turns spinning a bottle to determine a partner (those who spin in a given round are randomized)
Players will have 1 week to RP their character's action (kiss / hug / retreat). God modding is NOT allowed, and all actions should be made as attempts to allow the recipient the freedom to react (unless you have express permission from that individual to do otherwise)
› When the week is over, a new round will start with newly randomized list of spinners and spinnees. Students will have one week each round to submit their posts
Failure to post by a round's deadline will result in the assumption that the character froze up and declined to continue. They will be removed from the game
All IC rules still apply and IC consequences are possible depending on the situation
The game takes place Aug 28th
Site rules and rating will also always apply. All actions/descriptions must comply with them.
THE SETTING
On the evening in question, the Quidditch stadium would once again undergo something of a transformation. In place of lush grass, it had been filled yet again with water, waves rolling lazily across its depressed surface to lap against the stands and novel shoreline. The breeze carried with it the smell of salt and sea. Sand surrounded its perimeter, one side built up like a tropical beach. White and soft and warm, the sand underfoot was speckled with the occasional pretty little shell to catch the fancy of collectors. A little make-shift ocean in the privacy of camp.

Along the length of the ample shore had been erected a number of tents equal to the number of groups to be participating in this little game. Tents might have been a bit of a misnomer. In truth, they appeared more like gazebos—circular sheltered pop-ups with black opaque mesh sides that kept the insects and prying eyes out while permitting the cool and refreshing summer breeze in.

Inside, there would be no real floor to speak of, bare sand for the beach-bound. But for those who found it to be far too rough and coarse and obnoxiously capable of getting everywhere, reed mats served as safe places to perch. A plethora of colourful pillows and cushions would also be found piled within. Just waiting for the grabbing they promoted the comfort and casual relaxation of the temporary would-be denizens.

Jars of various sizes and style circled the perimeter, providing soft mood lighting illumination for the upcoming activity without over-powering the romanticism of the starlit sky twinkling down from above an openly screened ceiling. Fruits and treats had been arranged in tantalizing displays on platters are regular intervals between the available seating, just begging to be nibbled. And at the shelter's centre, the highlight of it all: a green glass bottle poised on its side upon a raised circular dais.

One by one, the students would arrive, each claiming a spot of their own. And once the last had taken their seat, the game would begin.

It was a great ending for summer.

The months had flown by so fast that Hiro wasn't sure that it had even begun! But they would be leaving soon.

Within a few days if he remembered correctly, as foreign students had to head home earlier than the others. Still, Hiro liked participating in all the events summer had offered them and his earlier adventures with his friends had also been fun to do. He kind of wished it would never end but all good things eventually came to an end at one point or another. A sigh escaped his lips. Hiro and Akira had grown closer to eachother during the summer too. Akira had finally started to call him Hiro-san instead of Bakugo. Quite a noticeable change for him and Hiro had been ecstatic.

Over the past month, Hiro had accomplished a lot at summer camp. He'd tried to meet all the people he'd failed to meet back at the Blossom Ball and as a result hadn't been able to participate in all the games. But he'd done some of them and those he'd done had been quite a lot of fun. Speaking of which, one of the last games was being played now. Spin the Bottle, or as it was otherwise called, Twirl the Flagon. It was a relatively easy concept, you spun a bottle and whoever it landed on was the one you either kissed, hugged or drew away from. It was really very simple.

The latter would knock you out of the game though.

Hiro didn't intend on drawing out for any reason whatsoever. He wasn't afraid of doing anything in this game.

Upon reaching the quidditch stadium, Hiro noticed it was once more filled with water. There was also a large patch of sand, one of the sides built up like a tropical beach. The 'tents' set up along the 'shore', which were more like small structures, caught his eye immediately. They were 100% going to be involved in this game, or else why were they there? Hiro drew closer and noticed all the other details with great interest. Someone had done a really impressive job with this. The duo-toned boy headed into one of the tents and claimed it as his own with a sigh of contentment.

He threw himself down onto some colorful pillows and cushions, happy for the respite from the bugs and insects fluttering around all the time. Once everyone started arriving, Hiro glanced up to see who would be participating in this game. There were many faces he recognized but also many he didn't. Well, damn. He'd thought he'd met a lot of people, but there were still a lot to meet! A sigh escaped his lips and he got up to snatch some fruit and treats. Eating them quickly, he looked up as the organizer of the event stepped forward and told them the rules. Yup, quite simple.

Hiro smiled.

This game was going to be fun! He knew if given a choice he'd always pick hug over kiss but this was a game.

It was designed to be fun and not serious. Hiro only hoped everyone understood that from the start. The last thing he wanted was to create misunderstandings with someone. The green glass bottle loomed up before all the students and Hiro waited for things to get started. Once the game started, the duo-toned boy watched as the first person spun the bottle. When it came time for his turn, he watched breathlessly as he waited to see who it would land on. Only to have it land on the one person he didn't want to be friendly with because he was holding a tiny grudge against them.

For someone who had embarrassed him in front of his b - Hiro shook his head, not sure where his mind had just been going right then, and tried to search for another word to describe Akira. Ah, right. His friend, yes that was right, that was better. The popular beater made a face as he stared over at Pax. Of course it had to be them. Well, he certainly wasn't going to kiss them. "Well, come over here and hug me then." Hiro said, daring Pax to do so. He'd spoken before the other had because he hadn't wanted Pax to try and do the same to him. Whoever was faster.

That was who would win the battle of the egos.

If they were going to do this, it would need to be Pax who made all the effort in this particular round.

Stopping for a moment and looking to the skies, as he so often did, he took in a few deep breaths. Of all the things he had done these past few weeks, THIS was the thing that legitimately had him scared. What was he thinking? It would be hard enough to kiss a girl he knew and liked, but it would be especially hard to kiss one he didn’t know at all. It would be kind of funny if the flagon landed on a dude. No sense in worrying over it now. But he was. He had never kissed a girl before. He had never wanted to kiss a girl before. He was not sure he wanted to now, but as everyone would be in the same boat, or “pirate ship” to carry on the summer’s theme, Stephen felt it would sort of even things out a bit. Surely he was not the only 12 year there who had never kissed someone who was not a relative?

Calm down, man. No one is going to know unless you tell them. And then his mind screamed, or unless you are very bad at it! Well, that’s a helpful thought. Looking up at the sky again and procrastinating, he finally made his way into Tent #2. It was actually quite cozy, and there did not look to be one person he knew, at least not so far. That cheered him up immediately. If he was bad at this, no harm no foul. He did not likely have to deal with them ever again. Score 1 for “passing ships in the night”. The second thing that cheered him up was that the girls were at least pretty. Looks were not the most important thing, but it sure would help sweeten the deal.

And speaking of sweets, he walked over to the food table and grabbed a plate of fruit. He had brushed his teeth three times after dinner, and flossed, so he would be kissably kissable. He always flossed anyway, but that is beside the point. Louca and Jaime had teased him mercilessly for the preparedness he put into his after dinner grooming, but Stephen simply saw it as a matter of politeness. Better to taste of fruit than garlic.

People were still wandering in, so he took a seat on a deep purple cushion and looked around at the others, smiling. Not knowing what the protocol was, he started out by introducing himself. If touches and *gasp* saliva and cooties were possibly going to be exchanged, names damn well needed to be exchanged too.

“Hi, everybody. Just thought I’d introduce myself before the games begin. I’m Stephen Schwartz. The American accent probably tells you what I don’t have to – Ilvermorny,” and he chuckled as he took a chunk of pineapple off of the fruit kebab and bit into it, just as fresh as if it had been picked in Hawaii that very day. Dang that was good.

Soon, everyone had gathered about the flagon of doom, and one brave fellow with two tone hair spun it and had a unique approach. He was about the third or fourth to spin, and it was obvious he was not happy with the person it pointed to as his vict partner in this round. Instead of making the move himself, he rather commanded the other boy come to him. Stephen had to give the guy props for self-assuredness. That was taking the rules for a spin themselves.

Taking a deep breath, he decided now or never. He leaned over and gave it a hard spin. He wanted a chance to be sitting back on his cushion by the time the thing stopped. When it did come to a stop, he was picturing himself dramatically wiping his brow as he uttered, “Whew!” Relief washed over him as it was clearly pointing to a girl. He did not look at her to see if she was repulsed or relieved or anything inbetween. That would just stall his momentum. She was sitting almost halfway across from him, so he got up and walked at his normal pace over to her. He offered her his hand, if she would take it, and if she did, he would help her up and ask her preference. Moving in like a heat seeking missile just seemed so rude. Yeah, this game was supposed to be fun, but people had their likes and dislikes. That needed to be respected.

In a rather matter-of-fact tone she simply replied, “Dealer’s choice.” He thought about it for a few seconds and decided a kiss it would be then. He lifted his hand under her chin and cupped it, while tilting his head just to the right so their noses would not bump and kissed her softly for two whole Mississippis. He had thought about three, but no point in getting greedy. When he pulled back, he smiled at her and he thanked her, feeling like that had not been the worst thing in the world. He could feel his smile growing wider with every step back to his fruit kebab and purple cushion.

His first boy–girl kiss was now a thing of the past. Let’s hear it for summer camp and rites of passages.

Mushing faces with Interacting with @Sophia Nelson as Ayako Yamamura
OOC: Sophia and I discussed this and I was told “Dealer’s choice” was fine. I’ll leave out the part where she told me a kiss would mean next to nothing to her girl. Had Stephen known that, he probably would have gone for 5 Mississippis!

Ayako didn't know what could have possibly possessed her to waste her time in a pirate-themed bastardization of an already unrespectable muggle game. Whether it was called Spin-The-Bottle or Twirl-The-Flagon was irrelevant. It was still just a pitiful excuse to cram an unhealthily large number of young people with rampant hormones into a small area and force them into a strange facsimile of romance.

Ayako hated it.

She could have been doing so much more with her time. She could have been practicing Aikido to improve her reaction time, or calming her mind with her Kyūdō exercises. Heck, given her own personal high standard for performance, she could be working on her quidditch drills. She hadn't performed up to her own standards, even ignoring the outcome of the actual match earlier in the month. She needed to improve, and she needed to do so now.

Her navy blue robes in her tent served as nothing more than a mockery of what she should be capable of. There was absolutely no reason she shouldn't be wearing golden robes yet, but here she was. The owner of an inferior set of navy blues. She could have even been spending her time studying, given her disappointment in herself.

She certainly owed it to her poor mother. She would never drag the woman out of poverty if she didn't apply herself more and stop wasting time.

Still...

When Hiro and Chi had both signed up, she couldn't just leave them to fend for themselves in this unfamiliar place when strangers could be - at best - refusing to go anywhere near them or - at worst - trying to force a kiss of all things onto them.

Thus, Ayako found herself sitting meditatively upon the blue pillow she'd taken from a nearby pile, impatiently watching as students of various schools fumbled with the bottle, allowing it to spin and awkwardly locking their lips together in a disgusting mixture of saliva or - mercifully for those watching - simply hugged it out with an awkward pat.

Her eyes weren't on those involved thus far, however. She maintained her silent vigil over Hiro and Chi. Hiro could probably hold his own, given how much the boy tended to overcompensate with his outgoing nature, but Chiaki was still quite a bit shy, and Ayako worried what a kiss would do to the poor girl.

Ayako's vigil was interrupted when she noticed her friends' eyes returning to her. A quick look around told her that - to her utter annoyance - the bottle was pointing right at her. She could hear a soft exclamation of relief coming from one of the boys in the circle and her eyes narrowed warningly as he looked at her.

To her surprise, he seemed happy. Good for him.

She helplessly watched as the boy stood and made his way over to her, offering a hand.

Sighing in annoyance, she decided she may as well get this over with. She hadn't signed up for the enjoyment of the game by any means, but she had signed up, so she didn't have much choice. She had to do this. It was like ripping a bandage.

The boy - who'd introduced himself as Stephen - was objectively attractive. She could certainly acknowledge that, even if he did nothing for her in the looks department.

She took his hand and allowed him to pull her up. He was quite chivalrous as well, it seemed. Again, if her heart was meant to flutter at the notion, it was strangely silent in its affections, though she could still objectively see the appeal.

He finally addressed her with words, and while she certainly felt no attraction for the boy, she certainly felt just a twinge of respect when he asked her preference. Hoping that she wasn't mixing up English idioms - she'd only been studying English for just under a year, so idioms often went over her head - she spoke with an accent.

"Dealer's choice."

Hopefully her words didn't sound mean. She certainly didn't mean to intimidate the boy by any means, but she still prided herself on being short and to the point with her words whenever possible. This response - if she'd used it correctly - would toss the ball into his court, as the saying went. She could simply brace herself and deal with the situation.

His hand felt cold under her chin. Methodical, like a medical procedure. She couldn't find it in herself to dread - or eagerly anticipate - the moment as he leaned in, tilting his head to his right. She did her own part and leaned enough to match his own efforts, tilting her own head as well. The last thing she wanted was an embarrassing nose bump.

When their lips met, it was thoroughly underwhelming. Ayako had read romance novels and manga before, and she'd always expected more from her first kiss, but this? It wasn't as if the boy was a bad kisser. Not at all. His lips were appropriately soft, with just the right shine from the daylight. His hand was still on her chin, which was perfectly respectable given their age and the chaste nature of the kiss. His eyes were closed, which Ayako assumed was normal for this situation.

It was surely a flaw on her end. Where she'd expected fireworks in her heart, there was only a clear moonlit night. Where there should have been a flushing of her cheeks, there was only calm coolness in her visage. Where she should have - according to all of her previous readings of the romance genre - felt the strongest elated urge to hop and squeal joyfully, she only wanted to return to her cushion once more.

The kiss was over after a very long two seconds. Ayako wasn't sure how to act after it ended, so she offered a polite nod and a few words of encouragement to the boy.

"Good job," she said, returning to her seat upon her cushion and watching her two friends once more.

The night was cool and crisp. The sand crunching under every step as Monica walked along the shore. The stars hung high in the sky, glittering in the navy blue sky, adding to the mystery, and atmosphere of the evening ahead.
The tents were lined up on the shore, each unable to be seen into, that was good. Only those inside your tent could witness the awkwardness of it all, but that is what drew Monica to sign up. The chance to get out of her comfort zone, meet people, possible create some pretty funny stories as well, and the best part was that everyone would be a little nervous too....

Right?

As she approached her tent, she could feel her heart race excel. She stopped shy of the entrance, "I am really going through with this?"No turning back now, it would seem so much worse to have signed up, and being a no show, rather than just to embrace the evening, and have some fun.
Her sister told her stories of playing spin the bottle, and the whole idea of the 'game' seemed so odd, yet alluring at the same time. Choosing to put yourself in an uncomfortable situation, for what purpose? To meet someone? To build friendship? Have a good time? There were too many questions swimming in Monica's head, and no answers that satisfied her, she had to figure out what the hype was all about!

"Okay game plan. No matter what, you are going to commit. Showing shyness, or hesitation might play out worse than just playing out the game to the fullest! No backing out!"
Swallowing her fear, she ventured into the tent.
There were a few people already in the tent, chatting away, or just sitting idol in thoughts. There were some people Monica had seen before, but didn't really know super well. To her surprise she saw Seren, her tent mate! Seemed best to find safety in numbers, Monica made her way over to Seren, "What are the odds we would be in the same tent? Is it cool if I sit next to you?" She asked the Ravenclaw. After receiving an 'okay' to her request, she took her place, and even scored some pillows to sit with.
It was still a bit of time before everyone arrived in the tent, Monica leaned over to Seren,"So what motivated you to sign up for this game? Have you ever played before?" Attempting to engage in some small talk, and also break some of the nervous tension that was going around... or at least was building up inside of Monica.
"I was more... curious? I guess? My sister talked about playing this game, and I wanted to see what it was all about."

After everyone had arrived, and taken their seats, the turns began. As the bottle was spun in the centre, so was Monica's thoughts. "Don't think about it, do not stress! It is just a game." She forced a smile, and just added to the hype with the rest of the crowd
A boy spun first, and landed on another boy, Monica could barely hold back a gaspe, but what followed was a very casual way to go about the turn, "Well, come over here and hug me then."
"Okay so hugging is an option if ever, no shame in that."It was a relief to know there was a back up... but Monica didn't like using back ups, that was a sign of fear taking over, and she couldn't allow that to happen.
Next was a guy who landed on a girl, both of which Monica had never met, but it was sweet how he went about his turn, asking what she would be comfortable with.

Finally the turn came for Monica to spin. Reaching out her hand, she grasped the bottle, spinning it with as much force as she could. She closed her eyes for a moment, afraid to see who it would land on... "No don't look like a coward!"
After what felt like a century, the bottles rotation slowed, and it landed on a girl sitting just off to the left where Monica was sitting. She had seen her around before, but didn't know her at all.
Shifting her way over to her 'partner' her mind drew a blank, all thought of what she was going to do, GONE!

Does she go for the kiss?
What if this girl pulls away?
Would everyone laugh at her?
What if it's weird to go for a kiss?
Should she just keep it safe and go for a hug?

She snapped into attention, sitting directly in front of the girl, "Hi... uh... not sure if we have met before... but I'm Monica." Words came spilling out, well might as well know who the person is that is about to... kiss? Hug?... or Jump ship.
Monica wasn't the 'jump ship' kind of person, and for her, it was go big or go home... however she didn't want to risk making this girl feel awkward, or do something they didn't want to do.

Weighing out all of the options, Monica opted that the best choice for the game, and the safest option, was to do a cheek kiss. Taking the biggest risk, but still respecting the other person.
Monica took a breath, and leaned in closer to the girl, trying to make it clear she was going for the check. She held her breath and closed her eyes, "Just a quick peck, nothing to write home about."

Twirl the Flagon, one of the last games Vivienne would play at summer camp before she headed back to Beauxbatons. She had thoroughly enjoyed every single day at camp, and she was disappointed that it was coming to a close. But of course, she brushed the disappointment aside and instead replaced it with all of the happy memories that had happened over the course of the month. The rules of this game seemed relatively simple, and it definitely wasn't as reckless or adventurous as previous games she's played. That didn't mean she wasn't going to have fun though. Vivienne had signed up to every game offered so she could get the most out of everything. All she needed to do was spin a bottle, and then hug the person it landed on. Even though the intention of the game was to kiss the person it landed on, Vivienne wanted to save her first kiss for someone important and special, she didn't want to waste it on a game. A simple hug would surely suffice.

The sight of a makeshift beach as the setting of the game caused a warm, fuzzy feeling to settle in her stomach. Her favorite place to be. She felt right at home. Entering the tent, she took a seat on one of the reed mats and grabbed one of the cushions, setting it onto her lap. Once the game started, Vivienne found herself watching as everyone took turns spinning the bottle, while eating the fruit that was beside her.

When it was her turn, she'd smile before taking the bottle and giving it a big spin, watching as it went round and round and eventually... stopped. Her gaze strayed up to the person on the other end, and she found herself staring at a pretty girl she didn't recognize, though she looked friendly enough. Vivienne gave the girl a friendly, welcoming smile that made the corner of her eyes crinkle before she said, "Do you want a hug? Or if that makes you uncomfortable, we can certainly just shake hands!" She asked, her French accent telling everyone that she wasn't from Hogwarts.

How the end of summer had stumbled upon them so fast, Pax did not know. The final few days were already upon them, and one of the final events of the camp was taking place.

In all honesty, they weren't really sure why they actually signed up for Twirl the Flagon (or known to most, Spin the Bottle). It wasn't their thing. But when they saw a lot of people signing up for it, they felt obliged. Plus, it was an event run by Evelynn. They wanted to support her activities no matter what happened.

In a daze, they sat down next to nobody in particular as they waited for anything eventful to happen, not really paying attention to the others as they had their turn. If anything, they tried to actively look away when any affection occurred, especially the kissing.

Why did they sign themselves up for this game?

Their trance was broken by an annoyingly familiar voice. "Well, come over here and hug me then."

Pax quickly looked up across the circle, only to see a familiar Japanese student staring back, unimpressed. Rolling their eyes, they shuffled forwards and awkwardly embraced Hiro, patting him on the back three times (the final time a little harder than the previous two) before quickly releasing and moving back to their spot.

"Happy now?" They raised an eyebrow. "Did the hug help your little temper tantrum?"

Summer had flown by with a snap of Chiaki's fingers. Somehow, in a few days, she'd be back in the familiar surroundings of Japan and Mahoutokoro, despite feeling like she'd barely scratched the surface of what she was able to do here. She would definitely consider returning next year.

Meanwhile, she found herself approaching a tent. Gravitating towards the snacks, she settled for a small handful of grapes before taking a seat between Ayako and Hiro, smiling at her two friends. This felt like the first time that she'd actually really had a chance to do an activity with them, it was just a shame it was so close to the end of summer. She'd have to remedy that upon their return.

She found herself being called up to spin the green bottle shortly, and smiled nervously at Ayako, before giving it a gentle nudge with her finger. Unsurprisingly, it didn't spin far, landing on someone she didn't recognise.

She wouldn't shy away from the challenge so soon, but there was no chance she would give this random stranger a kiss. So instead, she got to her feet and made her way over to him shyly.

"....I believe that we are to hug?" She proposed to him, nervously fiddling with the colourful bracelet (pink, yellow and blue) she'd made on her wrist. "Only if that is not uncomfortable for you however."

She leaned in slightly, wrapping her arms around him and giving him a light embrace. Face flushed, she smiled at him awkwardly before scurrying back to her seat to hide behind Ayako.

Esme was expecting this to be one of the more... interesting parts of camp, to say the least. She wasn't quite sure what made her decide to sign up, back at the beginning of the summer, but something had, and now here she was.

It was really impressive, she thought, how the Hogwarts staff could change the entire look of the quidditch stadium for each event! What made her laugh a little as she walked to the gazebos that had been set up, though, was that these witches and wizards that could do the most incredible things had decided to have spin the bottle as one of their summer games. It wasn't a game she'd played before, but she was curious. And of course, she didn't have to actually kiss anyone. To be honest, she was probably just going to hug everyone instead.

Which would still be awkward, because she wasn't really the type that hugged random people—or anyone really—until she got to know them pretty well. And maybe not even then, either.

Choosing one of the middle tents, Esme slipped inside and sat down on one of the colorful cushions, looking for any familiar faces. No one much yet, besides one or two students in her year she'd seen passing through the halls... Taking an apple from one of the platters, she waited. Soon, all the seats filled up and the game started. Three people spun and chose their actions, and then—

It landed on her.

The person that spun it gave Esme a bright smile, which definitely helped calm the girl down a bit. It wasn't so much the game itself anymore, but the fact that everyone was looking at her, but she pushed it aside, clearing her throat quickly before she spoke. "Um, a hug is good!" Leaning over, she gave the Beauxbatons student a quick hug and a small smile after she sat back again. See? That wasn't bad at all! the young gryffindor told herself. And so she watched, a little less nervously, as the game continued on.

If only Pax wasn't there...

Well, the game would have been 100% fun for him. At least their partners would switch up after the first round.

As long as he didn't get Pax again. Wouldn't it be ironic if he kept getting Pax all the time? It was a nearly impossible feat. Pax seemed just as happy to see Hiro as Hiro was to see them. Well, that was one thing they definitely had in common. Their mutual 'interest' in eachother. Pax shuffled forward and awkwardly embraced him, while patting him on the back for some reason. Hiro normally was a very touchy person, loving to give hugs to everyone. But Pax was an exception. The grudge the boy had against the other was strange and shouldn't have mattered much to him.

It wasn't as if Akira was his boyfriend. They were just starting their relationship as friends. Even if Hiro wanted things to go further between the two, the fact of the matter was that they weren't 'together' yet. So, why did he feel resentful towards Pax for cutting his air time (literally) with Akira short? Hiro narrowed his eyes at Pax as their final pat on his back became harder. They'd done that intentionally, he could tell and that in turn made Hiro decide to do the same. But later on, if they happened to get paired together a second time. Heaven forbid it happened to the two.

Pax's next words made Hiro's eyes narrow.

But they returned to their usual happy expression as he responded to the other with his own choice of words.

"If you consider playing a game by its rules a temper tantrum, I think all of us are having one. Including you. If you weren't, you wouldn't have hugged me just now." Hiro shot back with a fake smile.
