I didn't have a cat until I was 18+ and could legally adopt a cat from the shelter.
I will be adopting a second one soon since I've moved from my previous flat and am allowed more. I plan to acquire 4. And maybe 2 dogs, but doggos later, cats first. I'm training my cat to walk on leash and harness already lol.

We've got one cat who doesn't want anything to do with the outside more than she can look through window --- happily, she despises the harness, so everyone's happy. Boy cat can't wait to get out the door, but happily does well with the harness.

She's grown comfortable with the harness since I've bought it when she was about 7 months old. I just haven't taken her out on walks until recently. I had to get those retractable leads because the 'cat leash' was just too short. She just needs to learn that we can't trespass into others front porch/properties.
