"Hmm. I guess I like the library, the Great Hall, Potions class, and I guess basically anything to do with animals, minerals, and Raven Claw. Oh I just remembered I am supposed to be meeting a friend at the Astronomy soon." Yuki said back to James. "Well, I better finish my lunch." Yuki finished her steak and started reading another chapter of her book.

Alexandra didn't have to say anything to Yuki but roll her eyes for the one-millionth time. Yuki, you're so strange. she thought to herself. Why would anyone bring their lunch on the first few days of a school full of magic, wizards, and witches!? Alexandra pulled out another book, 'Book of Spells' and started flipping through the pages. She shifted her book, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', to her right. Her plate in front of her, and her book, 'Book of Spells', to her left.

Her small bits of knowledge of spells was an issue, due to kids already being far ahead in the spells department. Alexandra essentially studied beasts and different creatures. Sometimes animals but rarely because magical creatures were a bit more interesting.

Alexandra opened a small notebook and pulled out a quill. She began to scribble some notes on spells she had trouble with. She printed, she wasn't very good with cursive because she had difficulty reading it. Alexandra tapped her chin with the feather part of her quill. I wonder what I could find in the library about magical beasts. She rested her chin on the right palm of her hand.

(Can witches and wizards have their wands out in the Great Hall? Sorry, I'm a bit new to this. Also, that is a GREAT point James, how is someone supposed to write 200 words in a single room? Do you just ramble on about the same thing like how I did here?)

"Alexandra, I've got to go met Hydra at the Astronomy, see you later." Yuki said to Alexandra. Yuki started heading to the Astronomy when she saw Kody.

"Kody! Hey!" she yelled to the blonde haired dude at the table behind her. Yuki knew Kody from a letter she got about a  cat loving guy, and she loved cats so she sent him a letter because she thought that maybe they could become friends. Yuki walked over to Kody.

Kody was a bit fazed by the ending of the Sorting Ceremony. He didn't anticipate himself to be in Hufflepuff, but he did anticipate himself to in Hufflepuff. Strange. Kody examined his surroundings, he noticed the elegant tables and seating. And from his judgment, he could tell that there were different tables for different houses. But, Kody wanted to find somewhere a little quiet but not too quiet. He spotted a table that had four people sitting at the table, three being girls and one being a boy. He discerned that two girls and the boy were Ravenclaw, and the other girl was a Gryfinndor. Kody wondered, Hmm... is it okay to sit at a table that doesn't really have people from your house? He shrugged and walked over to the table.

Kody carried with him a journal and a quill to take record of the school and the students. Sometimes he'd just draw in the journal for the fun of it. Kody also carried with him the book, Hogwarts, A History. Although he doesn't like history, he's at a school for wizards and witches, he needs to know the history.

Kody reached the table, "Hello!" he started to introduce himself, "I'm Kody!" He said with a grin and held out his hand.

"If you always walk around with your eyes closed, how do you ever see where you're going?"

"Dragons, eh?" James said, curious because he had only heard of dragons in fairy tales. Then, at that moment, he wondered about something he asked a long, long time ago. What are the limits to this other world? he thought to himself, curious as to how much, for lack of a better world, magical things exist in the wizarding world. Magic, a concept that has existed since the medieval age to explain some phenomenon in our world, and now dragons? What more was there in store? Where does the line cross between fictional and real? He then got back onto his train of thought, and decided to continue his previous statement. "I've considered working with dragons, but I just don't think they'd be for me. I'm more of a guy who enjoys safer creatures." He had put his words very vaguely, but could tell that even people hearing that would know he was the biggest wimp in the world. He saw her pull a book of spells, an obvious essential to any wizard's arsenal, and even James knew that. He peeked over at the book she was reading, just to see what kind of spells were in it. Not wanting to be rude, he turned back and instead asked her about the book. "So, what all spells are in that book?" James asked, still trying to respect her privacy while still being curious about the world of witchcraft and wizardry.
((I don't mean to come off as lazy or incompetent, I just want people to understand that sometimes posts and storylines require multiple character conversing with little to no way of reaching the 200 word mark. I try to respect the 200 word mark, and I understand you guys trying to filter out good and not so good writers, but sometimes dialogue is required to move a plot along, or description just isn't that necessary. I understand you trying to enforce the rules, in fact, I actual respect your choice to maintain the rules. I just think it's better if you could shorten the world count to say, 150 or 170. It's not much of a difference, but would help the community move plot lines along much quicker while still following the rules.))

We should likely end it here. 200 words is pretty much a skilled beginner RP length. There are some communities that expect thrice that or more in a single RP post. There are some that expect less. There is a lot to talk about when you are in 'a room' and lacking material but remember this is a magical room in a new school with magical peers and you are away from home for the very first time in most cases.

----

From multiple tables adjacent sat the industrious and famed Professor Solomon Leer. He was a prodigious talent who has only recently graced these halls with his experience and knowledge. He would seem almost out of place, this aged man in the room of vibrant youths. His face was weather-worn and weary, his hair grey for many years yet there was a youthful glimmer in his eyes as he smiled and approached the group of students. His leather armor creaked as he moved with the grace befitting a man twenty years his junior he would stop at this table of misfit girls and lads.

He would stop and look down at a book, one he knew quite well in fact: 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' and his thin lips would slide into a half smile. "I know that book quite well 'lass," he would comment. "No worries, in Hogwarts you will be able to find most of them here... study well. However, the fantastical things you might see require knowledge and skill," he would pause and appraise the students. His brown eyes would glimmer through those narrow passages and crows feet. "Enhanced but never replaced by youth alone," he would comment or perhaps warn as he continued to amble on past. "I look forward to seeing what classes you excel in young ones."

That was all he had to say, for now at least. The zeal of youth was precious indeed, there were times he envied their vigor but today was not one of them. Hogwarts was a brilliant and fascinating place but it could also prove overwhelming. The chatter of children, the magic that filled every single object from the floating candlestick to the living paintings around them. The world was abuzz and if they took everything in it would become a deafening roar.

"It is going to be a long year," he raised his hand as he walked away, his back to the group of youths. "I hope that is is a productive one," he let out a hearty laugh, the sort one would hear from their grandfather. He had a pleasant demeanor, perhaps that was why his class was so popular among the later years despite the fact that charms and defense against the dark arts seemed so much more exciting. His passion was transfiguration and magical creatures, an academic nightmare for some and a day at the petting zoo for others. Few understood the relevance of the pairing but that was certainly fine with Professor Lear. Hopefully they never make the connection because for him this was like an Alchemist's gold.

Part of the issue is that you need to give each other something to work off of. Gesture, ponder, touch, interact. Your character is more than what they say and your peers are something worth appraising. Are they handsome, strong, nervous? Are you? What are you thinking about? Should the reader get a sense of dread from you? Wonder?

I have very confidence in your skill, you all seem like talented writers.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Alexandra could deduce James was curious when he asked, "So, what all spells are in that book?" She looked up from the journal she was writing in and set her quill on the table. "Well, pretty basic spells," she paused, "I can perform these spells, alright I guess. But because I usually read about magical creatures, I don't know all that I should about these spells because I mainly read about magical creatures."

Alexandra looked at the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures. She nearly fell out of her seat when she realized he was looking at one of her favorite books. Solomon Lear, the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures, a prodigy, spoke to her. Alexandra was ready to fall off the bench she was sitting on.

"Hello!" she heard and turned to see a blond-haired boy, whose hair appeared almost white. "I'm Kody!" He grinned and held out his hand. "Alexandra, Alexandra Knight." she shook his hand. "This is James," she pointed her thumb towards James. "And this blue-haired girl is Yuki." she nodded her head towards Yuki.

(Also thank you, I understand what you mean by gesture, ponder, interact and touch. And how you can make your character. I'll try to get 200 words each time.)

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Yuki noticed that some Hufflepuff guy came and sat down on a table nearby. For some reason, Yuki felt like she knew him, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Yuki decided that she'll worry about him later, right now she needed to study for her test in Potions.

"To make a growth potions you add that and this..." Yuki whispered to herself. She wrote down about 5 paragraphs of notes before she took a break. "A apple tree....and a grass......fertilizer.....tree bark..." Yuki finally finished about half of her notes that she needed. She put her books and notes away and took out her wand.

Yuki took out her 'Book of Spells' and found one called lumos. Yuki read the description and thought it was ok to try it in the hall, it sounded safe to do.
"Lumos" Yuki whispered. Nothing happened, "Lumos!" Yuki said again, this time louder and with more in danger tone of voice. Her wand started glowing and then blasted a ball of light on the end of her wand. Yuki was amazed at her wand and what she just did.

"I just did magic...I just did magic..I just did magic!" this was the first time Yuki has ever done real magic. Yuki then tried a spell called 'Nox'. "Nox!" Yuki said with pride in her voice and her wand reacted by diming slowly until there was no light left on the tip of the wand.

Yuki was so proud of herself! She put her 'Book of Spells' away with her wand and grabbed out an empty scroll and a full jar of ink and quill. She wrote a letter to her parents.

Dear Parents,
This is Yuki, I did actual magic today! I'm sorry I forgot to write to you yesterday.
Also I didn't get into Gryffindor, please don't be mad at me, I at least made it into Raven Claw.
Anyway how is Maribelle doing?
I can't believe I am actually at Hogwarts! I hope to make many friends while I am here. I have already made at least three, I hope you're proud of me mom, dad.

From your loving and caring daughter,
 •                                                                                                    Yuki Northcott  <3
Yuki rolled up her letter and packed up her stuff into her bag. Then she headed back to the Astronomy area to meet a friend of hers from long ago.
(Also I used more than 400 words in this paragraph not including this.)

James was aware that the spells in that book would be pretty basic, since it's probably made for first years like Alexandra and himself. Spell casting, and spells in general, was a topic he was unfamiliar with. He had tried to preform spells in the past, but often his attempts fall short of conjuring in actual spell. To learn a new set of skills was what this school was about, right? Hogwarts was a odd and mystical place for people with magical talents, but was a school nonetheless. It reminded him of the old fairytales his mother would read to him to go to sleep. Stories about magic, dragons, and knights. This event was an opportunity to learn more about the mysteries that laid hidden beyond our world. He peeked over and tried to preform one of the spells in Alexandra's book, but like all previous attempts, failed miserably.

He chuckled a bit at his own failure, but he knew more than anyone else that it was just a way to pretend as thought the recent event and action was just a joke. It was a thing he had seen and known from his older brother, so he could pull it off quite easily. He watched as someone walked silently while gazing upon the students at each table. He also observed how Alexandra, who was sitting beside her, looked in amazement- or even shock- at the man. "Who is that guy?" asked James, curious as to who this odd man may be. He looked as though he fit in with the world and their surroundings, but didn't want to be quick to judge.

Shortly after, a fellow first year approached the table. From what he said, his name was Kody. Alexandra addressed James, and so James smiled at the boy. He welcomed him to the table, and reached out his hand to greet him.

While gazing at the table, he looked at Yuki, who looked very happy as of recent events. He witnessed a small glow while talking to Kody, so he assumed Yuki had preformed some sort of spell that lit things up. He glanced over at that letter Yuki was writing, and slightly frowned at what it had. "So, how does it feel having magic parents?" James asked, since he was raised in a non-magic household. He was also confused as to why she wrote that she hadn't gotten to Gryffindor, but assumed it was just some sort of house bias that he didn't want to get involved in.
