the hatchling of friendship

⠀ [ march 19, 2022 ] ✦ @Henry Knight Spring break was starting in a little over a week, and for Esmeray, that was more than a little crazy. In some ways, it honestly felt like she'd just come back from the break in December. But in others... it had been a long, long few months, and Esme was completely ready to leave again.
It wasn't that she hated, or even disliked, Hogwarts. There was nothing wrong with the school, and it was still fun turning a corner and seeing someone casting some spell, brewing some potion, or even just talking to a portrait hanging on the wall. (Because yes, those talked.) No, the problem wasn't with the school itself, or really what happened in it. It was more the fact that Esme was still having trouble meeting new people. Making friends. No matter what she tried, everyone (save for one or two) kind of just slipped away after a while.
And Hogwarts, she had found, was no fun when there was no one sharing that fun with you.
Like she usually did when things like this invaded her head, Esme decided to go outside. Take a breath of fresh air. Push away reality, really, for a little while. Filling her bag with items like pencils, pens, and her sketchbook, she slung it over her shoulder and hurried out of the castle. She headed straight out onto the grounds, and eventually sat down against a tree—one that was not too far from the courtyard, but not all that close, either.
...maybe those types of thoughts and actions were the reason she was left so alone all the time.
Opening her bag and taking out a pencil, the gryffindor started to draw. Different from other artists she knew, Esme didn't start with light, cautious strokes. Half her drawings ended up being only pencil, after all, even if she did have colors beside her when she made them. Plus, it was something her aunt had taught her. Art isn't something to be held back, to be cautious of. It's something you need to accept fully, mistakes and all. If you don't, well, that's not true art, is it? Just like if you were to hold back a piece of yourself—you wouldn't be as beautiful as you are when you're unafraid. Esme had laughed, mainly at Steph's dramatic voice as she said it, but she eventually realized the truth in it. Her aunt was right... like always.
Looking up from her pencil and paper, something caught her eye. A little black... something, on the ground under a tree a couple feet away. Tilting her head, Esme leaned forward to see if she could tell what it was, and then—
It moved.
There was no wind at the moment, so whatever it was must have moved on it's own. An animal, then, the first year decided. Standing up and moving closer, her eyes widened. It was a bird. A baby one, too. Not moving, which made Esme come to the conclusion it was hurt. Had most likely fallen from the tree above it, although she couldn't quite see any nest from where she was standing.
"Hey there little guy, I'm going to try to help you, okay? Just—hang on for a few seconds. I'm going to..." She stopped, mid sentence. What was she going to do?stamina 7 | evasion 6 | strength 4 | wisdom 7 | arc power 8 | accuracy 8 ✦ [ stats ]⠀
