Ask for an answer, receive an answer, Samantha pointed out Alec's flushed face, and he laughed as she pretended to point it out to imaginary students. Alec turned his head, pretending to look over at the imaginary students, followed him shaking his head and tutting,“you're making me feel like a first year all over again. That really was the nonsense that went down in classes.” She wasn't a first year, however she knew, Alec hadn't witnessed any such event happen in class during his third-year, maybe people had started maturing.

Samantha reacted to his joke and Alec grinned, perhaps his theory had been proven wrong. Well, to some anyway. He rather liked his joke, “are you sure? It has to be the most brilliant I've said yet.” He was exaggerating a little, but he was happy with it, he didn't often tell lion jokes, or house themed jokes in general. Alec sighed, feigning playful disappointment he shrugged, “I tried.”

Alec had trouble hiding his excitement when Sam spoke about her history, and mentioned she spoke a lot of dutch home. “That's so cool!” Alec could only speak one language, it was a shame considering in the future it had the chance of limiting his conversations with other people. One of these days he was going to have to sit down and try to learn a least a few words from a different language.

Sam's 'clock' joke was interesting to say the least. Maybe it would have been funny if he knew what she was talking about. Alec forced a laugh and nodded when asked if he understood the joke. Still, he sat through her explanation of it. If Alec was aware of what she was talking about, he would have found it strange she went through the efforts of trying to explain it. Didn't it ruin a joke if you had to explain it? He didn't want to seem ignorant or anything of the like. The joke had to be a muggle thing right? They did have a lot of strange things, for example, the baby shark song, or the other muggle songs, actually most of the ones he'd heard were strange.

Another Alec had never heard of! She mentioned ...The internet? What were these muggle things? Alec had no clue, and this time around, Alec had trouble masking the confusion appearing on his face. Alec did not understand, despite looking incredibly confused he nodded and she went on to tell the joke. She begin telling a joke, one with words that sounded like nonsense to his ears. He wasn't on top of his acting game this time around failing horribly when the time came for him to laugh. Sooo he had missed the mark there, it was a problem, but oh well, maybe she wouldn't notice. He nodded and to hide the fact he didn't laugh, he took a sip of his tea, as if it was somehow going to distract her from the fact he didn't laugh.

He set his cup down, “alright, I'll admit it you have better jokes than me.” Yes, this was totally how Alec could play it off as if he knew what she was talking about. Perfection. She would never ever ever find out.

"Only a first year?" she scoffed, "I am sure your other years were filled with nonsense too." The tone of the brunette didn't make it clear if she was joking or if she was seriously trying to hurt the boy's feelings. "Every class you are in is probably filled with nonsense," she joked around, which could only be seen in the faint smile that was vaguely visible on her face and the little detail could only be spotted when looking closely. To Samantha, Alec seemed like somebody who could handle her banter and wouldn't take the mean comments she made jokingly too personal (not that she had really considered her remarks hurting his feelings).

Samantha frowned slightly, eyebrows lifting gently and pinching above the brow, at Alec's comment about it being the best joke he'd ever told. "Your other joke must be the most terrible jokes ever to be told then," following the other's leas with the exaggeration. "You did okay, they weren't that horrible," she added trying to be nice and supportive before drinking the last of her tea. She enjoyed making jokes and fake mean comments but she didn't want to hurt his feelings or destroy his confidence. A day ago she couldn't have minded if she hurt his feelings but now that she was starting to get to know him a little better she realized he was okay and didn't want to hurt his feelings.

With the mention of the internet, a confused look appeared on Alec's face and miraculously the usually oblivious Samantha noticed his confusion. He was either horrible at masking his confusion or the girl's empathy had grown a lot over the past few months or, quite possibly, both. Though she noticed his confused look, she didn't say anything about it right away, wanting to tell her amazing star wars joke first. Even though Alec laughed way too late and his acting was horrible, she didn't notice any of it as she was too busy laughing at her joke. thanks tatsu for the 7 on a d100 -.- "Thank you," she said after he admitted she had better jokes, something she, of course, knew all along. "I am glad we can agree upon that," she added wisely.

She had wanted to take another sip of her tea only to find out that the cup was empty and the sugary tea had completely disappeared out of it. "Would you mind giving me some more tea?" she asked nicely, planning to stay a little longer. "I noticed you seemed confused when I talked about the internet, are you pureblood or have you been living under a rock for your whole life?" The idea of not knowing about the existence of the internet was absurd to the muggle-born, who spent a lot of time on it when she was during school breaks.

'You wish' was Alec's only thought as Samantha scoffed. He was sure the shenanigans happened during classes in others years, however it was very different when you were dealing with first years. It was very different when you were dealing with eleven-year-old's. Alec thought it made such an incredible case that he would shake his head from left to right as she insisted every class he was in was likely to be filled with nonsense as well. His smile was as big as ever, finding the whole conversation hilarious he couldn't help continuing to chuckle.

His eyes would narrow focusing on Sam in playful exaggeration, “the most horrible jokes ever to be told then?” Alec asked to confirm what he'd just heard, it was another playful question. “Clearly what's happening here is your joke measuring meter is broken. They were at the very least decent.” Decent because they had to be, he would not be wasting on time on terrible jokes. Obviously Sam's sense of humor and therefore joke measuring meter was off. Alec's perfect playful conclusion. Sam would go back on her playful banter to assure Alec's his jokes were okay, and truly not that horrible. He nodded, and would take the reassurance as a compliment, “thank you.”

Despite Alec being terrible improv actor it seemed Samantha would take no notice to any of it. Leaving Alec thinking Sam had never known, would never know, and it she didn't know, which of course she didn't, she could not bring it up. Samantha laughed at he own joke much more than Alec would have expected and thanked Alec for admitting defeat and letting her know she was the better joke teller.

Alec nodded as Samantha asked for more tea, and stand up, leaning over to pour her another glass of hot water. Tea time apologies was going much better then expected. Who knew they would actually end up getting along this well? At least well enough for her to stay and to drink more tea. Was it strange he wanted to talk to her outside of this setting? Was that allowed? Would she be okay if Alec walked up to her in a public setting just to tell some cringe-worthy jokes, or even to chat?

Alec had thought he could avoid it. Thought he could get away with it. He thought with abilities to get away with pretending to understand something like this he had a guaranteed career in acting. To all three, Alec was sorely mistaken. He would find out as such when Samantha brought up one of the things he had pretended to know. She followed by asking if he was pureblood or if he had been living under a rock. It was the first one, Alec didn't not live under rocks.

Rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly, Alec wanted how to start up this conversation. He wanted to seem cultured, it was the worst of he looked utterly ignorant, he needed to bring up muggle things he knew to make up for what he didn't know. Nodding, he would clear his throat and speak, “yeah, I'm a pureblood. I have half-blood and muggle-born friends though,” he said it as if it was supposed to prove he was intelligible of muggle culture. Bad line, he knew it was the second it escaped his lips. He knew it wasn't good enough, it was not good enough to simply have friends, one needed to make an active effort to learn and discover.

Oh! “So far from what I've heard, muggle music is rather strange. I know the muggle song, baby shark. I know as few others as well, from the fall ball, their all interesting to say the least...” Ouch. Heading in and bringing his downfall, crashing and burning. Baby shark was a muggle child song. Perhaps not the best point of interest to show Alec was well educated on muggle culture.

The playful jokes exchanged were a big difference from how the two students interacted during their duel and Samantha realizes she had judged the boy way too soon. Maybe he wasn't that bad after all... "My joke measuring meter is working just fine, it's yours that's off!" she told the boy with all the sass she had in her and a little twinkling in her eye. After the sort of compliment she had given him, he thanked her and she gave him a little smile.

The brunette carefully watched as Alec's poured her another cup of tea, making sure he didn't spill anything of the hot beverage on her. A triumphant look appeared on her face when Alec told her he was pure-blood and indirectly said she was right. Her right eyebrow was slightly raised, frowning at the mention of the boy's comment about his half-blood and muggle-born friends.

"So you know what the internet is?" she questioned him seriously. Suddenly, she remembered her amazing joke with a reference to star wars, a movie he, as a pureblood, probably had never seen or heard of. "Have you ever seen star wars?" she asked him a little offended that he had laughed at her joke when he probably hadn't even understood it.

The second year had just taken a sip off her tea when he burst out laughing, tea falling back in the cup and some drops flying in Alec's face when he mentioned baby shark. Still chuckling, she whipped the spilled tea from her face and looked for her wand to clean up the mess she had created on the table. "I am so sorry," she said as she got her wand out of her back. "It's just," she started interrupted by a little giggle, "baby shark..."
