He continued speaking but Dinah didn’t hear the rest as she was racking her brain trying to remember what she’d read about the Hogwarts houses. She knew there was four of them...red, green, yellow and blue. But they had names Dinah just couldn’t for the life of her think what they were. She glanced round at the others, worried. They’d think her terribly stupid if she didn’t even know the names of the school houses.

She kept quiet a moment longer and breathed a sigh of relief when the new arrival spoke first.

“Well I think I’ll be in Ravenclaw...” Lucia announced confidently.

Ravenclaw; yes that was the blue one. Apparently full of the smartest students.

Emma seemed a little taken aback by the question and took a moment to answer. When she finally did tell them she thought she would most likely be in either Slytherin (the green one) or Ravenclaw, Dinah noticed her apprehension.

She understood why as she had been notified by various helpful witches and wizards in Diagon Alley all about the rivalries and disputes between the four houses.
A discussion like this could easily kick off a disagreement.

Dinah continued her silence and rather than give away her answer just yet, she waited to hear what Thomas had to say.
"Dinah do you have anything to say?"Lucia asked one side of the headphones on and one off. She had always preferred to not speak to others but she had to now. as she finished her drawing she then to took out colored pencils. When she did this one of the people asked "What are you going to color?"
"Oh nothing much just a dragon I sketched,"Lucia responded. The rest of them continued to chat as she began with a nice brown color. She had a pack of 100 colors. this included many shades of each color. After done with the first brown she moved to another shade.

Ravenclaw, he knew, which was obvious to himself and probably most anyone who delighted in conversation with him for more than a few minutes. He had done a little reading of Hogwarts: A History, and gotten as far past the information regarding Houses, understanding the exact character represented in each attiring form of symbolic segregation, and was curious to hear that the girl Emma thought herself to possibly be headed for Slytherin, or his already self-appointed House. Slytherin was most known for their dark wizards and brooding temperaments, along with their chaotic mentalities when regarding magic, and he couldn't really see this girl who seemed nice enough, except possibly in regards to her demeanor to those unknown to the world of magic, to be placed in such a House. Unless, of course, there hid under that veneer of decorous timidity a lurking hidden beast, a shadow of malevolent content. But, who really knew the truth? Only time would reveal the true characters of those in this compartment.

'Ravenclaw.' He told them. 'Most likely, anyway. It would be a strange occurrence if we all ended up in the same House, although nice, in a way. At least we would have already built the foundations of friendship which could possibly proceed to further heights.' Tom looked at Dinah, who seemed reluctant at giving her own take on the matter. 'Any thoughts on your own placing?'

After giving it more thought, she felt like she had given the right answer. When you get past the history of dark art performers in the certain house, Slytherin wasn't a bad house. They were smart and ambitious, they were hard workers too. She pictured her grandfather that used to be one of the most passionate Quidditch players, he was in Slytherin, but she admired that about him. She shook the daydreamy look off her face and Emma listened to his general idea, and if not, of his most likely preferred house.

'Ravenclaw.' He told them. 'Most likely, anyway. It would be a strange occurrence if we all ended up in the same House, although nice, in a way. At least we would have already built the foundations of friendship which could possibly proceed to further heights.'

"Yeah, that would be great. Great to have some people around that you know and fill comfortable around." She looked at her hands that were now covered in chocolate, it wasn't a frog anymore... Don't you dare eat it... and don't wipe it on yourself either... and don't leave the compartment to get a napkin. But it's only chocolate... She debated with herself staring down at her hands every once in a while. Both Emma and Thomas turned their attention to Dinah, who seemed almost uneasy about answering the question, Emma understood why. "The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin."

Lucia looked around at everyone. The one girl seemed to be really stressed. She wanted to comfort the girl be her friend but she was nervous too. She hadn't been to hogwarts before what would it be like? She thought about this as everyone talked. She then pulled out another brown pencil continuing to color her dragon. "So how was everyones summer's?" She asked looking at everyone's clothes. She always liked to take reference from people to create pictures. She saw everyone kinda went silent when she said this. She then tried to ignore the stares focusing on her drawing. She really didn't like when people stared at her. She put on her Red headphones and tried to block them out now. As this wasn't really working she then started to curl up in a ball. She then uncurled herself and breathed. That's when someone finally answered her question.

After the other had given their opinions on the houses they felt they would be in, it soon became Dinahs turn. She felt their eyes on her and willed her face not to turn red.

She opened her mouth to answer Thomas’ question but floundered over the words for a moment.

Sensing her stress, Emma lent a hand. “The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.”

Of course, that was it. The red one, the yellow, the blue and the green. She would have to learn those names sharpish. Dinah couldn’t face another embarrassing moment like this one. She hoped the others didn’t think her stupid but she herself did feel it.

I think I’d probably end up in Slytherin.” She said slowly. Dinah thought back to her reading of the characteristics of the houses and then to her previous behaviour through her life. Even though outwardly she didn’t seem the type, she definitely had some of the less desirable characteristics of a Slytherin. “Although the more I’m thinking about it the more I’m feeling it will probably be Hufflepuff.

It felt strange judging herself on the characteristics of the houses. Like she was putting herself through a personality test. It felt rather a big headed thing to do, to assume her personality. Most likely her judgement was clouded by her own internal bias.

“So how was everyone’s summer?” Lucia asked, continuing her drawing.

The compartment fell silent as nobody seemed eager to spill. Dinah couldn’t help but wonder just what on earth the people around her would think when she failed to instantly answer yet another of their perfectly normal questions.
But how could she answer that? Oh not too bad thanks, just spent it alone and miserable in a care home with kids that hate me and staff that don’t care about anything but their wage slip. Spent a lot of time indoors, reading because I hate socialising with those people and I was also thinking about how little I had to look forward to, before my Hogwarts letter came. How about you?

It wasn’t exactly good conversation for making friends with so Dinah busied herself opening another chocolate frog instead, quickly catching it in her hands before it had a chance to jump away from her.

Emma clapped at the sound of Slytherin, though she doubted she knew about the history of the house. "What if we end up in Slytherin together? " Emma imagined her in Slytherin, though at the same time she couldn't see herself in the house. She was much of an introvert, and Slytherins usually had no problem talking to people... right?

Thankfully, her thought was interrupted by Dinah. “Although the more I’m thinking about it the more I’m feeling it will probably be Hufflepuff." Imagining the yellow robes that seemed almost perfect for her.

"You'd be amazing in Hufflepuff, you're already so sweet." Emma clapped again but faster then pulled her hands back into her jeans.

After the topic, Emma glanced over to look at Lucia coloring that same dragon, brown. An interesting color of choice. As if she could sense me, she asked. “So how was everyone’s summer?”

Emma looked at Dinah, she obviously didn't want to answer, for she was distracting herself with a chocolate frog. She decided to take the blow, to save her the trouble. "I mean, I rode my bike a lot. I almost got hit by a few cars, that miraculously stopped, because I'm a wizard." She said sarcastically waving her hands in a jazzy fashion, for the first time in forever. It even surprised her a bit, maybe she was getting a bit comfortable with them, maybe a bit too comfortable? "I found fifteen pounds on the ground." She said referring to the currency used in London. Emma remembered she was still trying to keep Dinah from answering, so she redirected the conversation back to Lucia. "What about you? Anything actually exciting?"

"Uhh....Not really except that the house I lived n near the beginning of the school year was flooded with letters,"She said thinking about how that was happening over a time period of a week. the house floor just only the letters. "My parents didn't want me to come because of Harry Potter, but now they are and i'm so excited to get to go to hogwarts,"Lucia said looking out the window at the mountain range then looking at her dragon. She flipped to an empty page and began to draw the mountain range as they slowly passed. She when they were passed it remembered what it looked like so she was able to finish the drawing.

"My parents didn't want me to come because of Harry Potter, but now they are and i'm so excited to get to go to Hogwarts," Lucia said as she looked up the compartment window to the vast ranges of mountains, Emma also looked in that direction.

"That's terrible, but Harry Potter did so many amazing things. Just think what would have happened if he didn't fix it first, we could have into those things." Emma watched outside the window, looking at the lake that all first years had to cross. That must have been it, the Black Lake as she called it. Some called it the Great Lake, but that didn't have the same time of feeling to it. Black to her meant mysterious and name-calling, yet Great simply meant eye-catching, just like all other lakes she had encountered. Now would have been a good time to put on her robes, so she spoke to the rest of the group.

"I think I'm going to go and change into my robes, we're almost here! Can you see the lake?" The brunette looked at the lake one more time before standing. Grabbing her trunk, she fidgeted with it, eventually opening it up and grabbing her black, standard robes. She waved at the threesome that she just left behind. "See you at the Sorting Ceremony," She opened the noisy compartment door and shut it back as if she had never entered.

“You’d be amazing in Hufflepuff, you’re already so sweet.” Emma said, clapping her hands.

Dinah say for a moment, almost in shock. Never in her life had she been called sweet by anyone. Ungrateful, yes. Moody, yes. Annoying, yes. But sweet? She had never considered it before.
Admittedly getting the compliment was nice, especially from somebody as friendly as Emma, and Dinah felt the corners of her mouth turn up into a small smile.

Just when she thought she couldn’t like Emma more, the girl appeared to noticed Dinahs reluctance to answer Lucia’s question and took up the chance herself instead.

As she told them about her summer and finding money on the ground, Dinah smiled gratefully at her as she bit of a bit of the chocolate frog.

Lucia began explaining how her parents hadn’t wanted her to come to Hogwarts because of someone called Harry Potter.

Dinah had heard the name and vaguely remembered reading something about him in one of the books at Flourish and Blotts but couldn’t quite remember what had happened. She’d never heard his name in the muggle world.

They were passing a beautiful mountain range, littered with groups of trees and the occasional sheep. It was very pretty and Dinah half wished she had grown up nearer here. There was nothing like this in London. Just big ugly tower blocks and graffiti filled streets passing in a blur behind the never ending crawl of cars and taxis and buses.

“I think I’m going to go and change into my robes, we’re almost here! Can you see the lake?” Emma said suddenly, getting up from her chair.

Dinah focused her attention to the nearest features outside the window and did indeed see the great, inky, black abyss that must have been the lake. It stretched on for ever and filled Dinah with a sudden bout of nerves.
Ice water that could have come from the lake itself seemed to trickle down her back and she leaned back in her chair taking a couple of deep breaths.

This was it. The start of new things.

Emma grabbed her robes from her trunk and headed for the door. “See you at the Sorting Ceremony!”

The door slid shut behind her and Dinah sighed. Would she see Emma again? She hoped so, she had seemed friendly.

Lucia was still working on her drawing, not seeming too bothered that they were nearing the great school. The girl seemed to exhuberate confidence.

Feeling a need to pace, Dinah lept up from the comfortable seat, knocking her chocolate frog wrapper to the floor. Hurriedly she picked it up and pulled open the compartment door, the wood rattling against the frame.

Well, it’s been really nice meeting the both of you.” She said, smiling nervously at Lucia and Thomas. “I’m going to go get ready to get off.”

With that, she left the compartment, intending to go find an open window or somewhere she could catch her breath before they reached their destination.

Lucia finished her drawing including the colors when they neared the school. Lucia then began to collect her things. "I guess everyone is leaving i'll see you later perhaps,"Lucia said grabbing her bags from above. "I probably should put on my robes,"She said then heading to go put on her Robes. She then pulled her stuff to another compartment near the door. She stood in the compartment until the train came to a stop,
