Colin smirked and rolled his eyes when Chen asked why he'd cast his own spell in response to Avery's. What did the boy even mean by that? He did notice that Avery's expression remained firm. He was really on about something! Colin would just have to wait and see.
“I just came in levitating you like a drying rack of ham," Avery started his explanation. Colin snorted derisively. Psh! That's a way to start things off!
"What I heard was that Draven was going to settle some scores with someone in the empty classroom today, probably because someone insulted him, so I immediately assumed it was you, since you showed up first. UGH that’s embarrassing,”
"Whoa!" Colin couldn't help but respond with shock and surprise at this revelation! "Wait! Mirador was going to settle some scores? With me? Who said that!" Colin reached his hand into his pocket, only to recall that Henry still had his wand. "Anyway, Chen, even if I had said anything to upset Mirador, do you think he'd still be standing over there? He'd've been up on the table dancing and sneezing long before you ever got here!"
"Wow, a real duel standoff? There’s no way I can say no to that! Ha! Prepare to get smoked, McCoire! Let’s see how well those weak legs of yours can dance ballet.”
Colin smirked at Avery. This duelling was going to be fun! "Huh! That's what you think, Chen! The only ham to be smoked shall be you!" He nudged Avery playfully in his ribs. "You'll never get a chance to see if I can dance ballet. You'll be too busy mopping up your own blood and snot." He narrowed his eyes and gave Avery a sneer, just to drive the point home.
It was Henry that brought Colin around again. He had a curious effect on Colin. He had accepted Henry as his elder brother and packmate. When he called Avery his brother too, Colin wondered again if the other boy weren't also a werewolf. Henry seemed to have a calming effect on both of them.
Henry had told them that they'd meet in the duelling room. And then he left, saying he was going to the library. This was really going to happen! A real duel? Colin could hardly wait! After Henry had left the room, Colin turned towards Avery with a huge smile. There was no animosity in his face. "Can you believe it? Henry's actually going to let us duel each other!" Colin punched Avery playfully in the chest. "It's just going to be you and me and our wands! And ---"
Suddenly the mirth of the moment left Colin's face as he looked around, almost frantically. "Oh drat! Henry's got our wands! Come on, Chen! To the library! We must retrieve our weapons ere we fight!"
With that, Colin snatched up his satchel and took off out of the classroom, his things bouncing happily on his back as he skipped along towards the library.
"Owooooo!!" With a happy shout over his shoulder, Colin called out to Avery: "Come on, mate! I can't trounce you without my wand --- but it's up to you if you want to try and defend yourself or not!"

By the way Colin reacted as if he were going to jinx the person who said he offended Draven, Avery was quite convinced that the boy really did no such thing. "Oops, I guess they really were just schoolyard rumors, after all," Avery shrugged apologetically. Man, why was he always fooled by what people said? First The Curse of the ASC, and now this. He had to be less gullible than that!
True, he had a feeling that if anyone got into a tumble with McCoire, he'd either bite their head off or hex them silly. No doubt about that. The boy had some sort of fire in him, for sure.
He smirked as Colin nudged him in the ribs. "Nah, mate, if I'm gonna be smoked ham, you'll be upgraded to a roasted rack of lamb on a spit -- from all the fire I'll be shooting at you! Watch your wool when you're too busy dancing!" he chided, using an elbow to nudge his housemate back. "You're in for a thrashing!" he warned, grinning, happy for some friendly competition now that he and Colin sorted out their prior misunderstandings.
Oh shoot, Henry still had their wands! "Wait up -- save your legs for later!" he hollered back as Colin dashed out of the classroom.
"Yo, Kim, this duel is over, and the next one is coming up if you'd like to watch Colin and me duke it out someday! C'mon!" he reached out to snatch his potions partner by the sleeve, and dashed out of the classroom chasing Colin.
Well, wasn't this interesting.
