Most who knew Wyatt Starkey wouldn’t have a hard time believing he was "less emotional" than others, so you shouldn’t expect any double takes if you wanted to go around informing people of the fact. Thinking of it now, you’d hardly get any single takes, either. Wyatt had been told many times that interacting with him was confusing because of how little feeling he displayed on his face, so the boy himself wouldn’t take it as so much of a shock either. This was a commonly understood thing.

Wyatt had developed what he would call a skill of taking his feelings and tossing them out. He’d take in a deep breath and imagine that when he exhaled, all of his worries and emotions would fly right out through his nose. That, or he’d imagine that when they bubbled up, he’d put a lid on them. Or, his least favorite but still effective, he’d picture himself pushing them down into his stomach like a trash can that was a bit too full. That wouldn’t keep them long, only being effective in the short-term.

Among the feelings that he compartmentalized or abandoned entirely was fear. Many times, Wyatt would find himself in an unfavorable situation; from encounters with a bully to a spider in his dorm, there were plenty of occasions in which Wyatt would be scared. These, however, were moments in which Wyatt was most grateful for his gift. If he took a deep breath and exhaled his worry and fear or if he pictured himself elsewhere, where he really was didn’t have to matter.

Not to mention, with his joining the Slytherin broom racing team, he was starting to get more acquainted with danger. Once appropriately fearful of heights, Wyatt was now something of a calculated risk taker. After falling into waterfalls and getting hit in the head with rocks and coming out of it (more or less) fine, it’s no surprise that Wyatt would lose a bit of his anxiety in tense situations. Flying beside the unexplainably terrifying Vale Ashwood and Scarlet Salvatore helped, too.

All in all, controlling what he showed to other people was easier, since he could rationalize what he was feeling and prove to himself that it didn’t matter. In most cases, he made sure that he would not approach a situation with fear. Instead, for the things he knew didn’t matter, he would be able to show that he wasn’t in danger. Fear was a construct. How could you be scared of an idea? That of course, was just one of the things Wyatt would tell himself to calm his nerves, and you know what? It worked.

Resting face: intimidating, such is the natural state of one Aurora Ranvier. Whilst not a typically intimidating girl, there was certainly a peculiar aura to the diminutive Ravenclaw captain. In order to date such a girl, one must have a degree of grit and fortitude, a fearlessness in the face of terror. Lest one live in a constant state of worry about the health of their eyes, the threat of pepper spray ever-looming. But, Aurora Ranvier is far from the only intimidating creature that calls the halls of Hogwarts home. Creatures in the guise of students, hiding their monstrous visages behind the thinnest of disguises. Attendance to the most prestigious school for wizardry in the British Isles was not without danger, Nicholas just never expected that such danger would come in the form of his peers.

Be they dhampir or simply, like Aurora, intimidating by means of an unnatural disposition or personality, through prolonged exposure, the young Gryffindor slowly became accustomed to their presence. The sense of trepidation that millenia of prey instincts had honed into his essence dulled with time, familiarity serving as the tool that ground such worries down, as the rain wears down the mountain to sand.

Becoming the temporary plaything of one Erin Ryan certainly assisted in dispelling such petty notions of fear. Cast between Ranvier and Ryan, girls of an utterly unnatural demeanour, Nicholas found the end of his second year served as a crucible in which his fears were slowly eroded.

Of course, fear is not only social, but also born of a desire to avoid physical harm or other such malady. And nothing served as more of a risk of physical harm than the great and noble sport of broom racing. Flying through the sky at speed, dodging boggarts and obstacles, and the vicious attacks of other competitors, fear soon finds itself conquered. Victory is to be grasped and taken, and through rigorous exercises, most of which involve flying stupidly at a tree then attempting to avoid the branches at the last possible moment, Nicholas found himself growing accustomed to such speed and danger.

Hogwarts, both its students and its dangers, proved a place of fear. But given time, and a stubborn determination to overcome those worries that would hold him back, Nicholas has dulled his sense of fear. Replacing it, as always, with anger and stupidity. Familiarity may breed contempt, but in time, it also serves to make one content.

describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it) | After first year, Reena had clearly gone a bit... careless. She had started to focus so intently on spells that could protect her. She told herself it was self defense, but she knew the spells she wanted so badly to learn did nothing but hurt. She hid and controlled the urge to hurt anyone, she just wasn't like that. She couldn't be like that- why would she want to see anyone in pain? Her whole life before Hogwarts, she was the good guy. She was the one of punched bullies- or stole kid's lunch money back for them. She was the one who sat next to the injured kid until a nurse came. Why would she want to inflict pain? And sense when? When she started Hogwarts, she was interested in defense against the dark arts. She was! But for self-defense She studied hard on every subject, but mainly DADA. She liked the professor and the homework was time consuming- distracting from everything around her. It always gave her something to do even if it frustrated her. But she never used a spell once outside of classes in her first year. However, something changed over the summer. She had a wand, and she knew spells. She could do anything. But she would be caught. So she waited until she was back at Hogwarts, and she spent countless hours crouched over DADA books.

Soon her once empty notebook was filled with quick and hurried notes on spells, so messy that only she could read it. It was evident she was writing quickly, as if she didn't want anyone to see. She wanted to keep the knowledge to herself. She was putting in the work and she was dedicated. It was her studies and she wasn't sharing anything. And one day, one day she planned to show it all to the professor and get permission to the restricted section. Which meant she would have to keep her notes clean. She wouldn't write any dangerous spells, even if that's what she wanted to get to. But soon, she started studying after class and asking for help on more advanced spells. She joined the more advanced students during her free time and she would sit and watch they practice. Soon. She thought. Soon, she would join them. She wanted to learn ahead of her peers. Because just like the other advanced students, she could manage. And she wanted it.

If it's not too much, can we possibly change my blood status from Wizardborn to Pureblood? I have frequently said Noah was a pureblood in the past, and usually not realizing he was a Wizardborn. I was told to bring it up here.

The day Noah was at Hogwarts, he decided to pay his Tawny Owl a visit. He smiled gently as he brushed past the other owls to Billy's cage.

"Hello Billy Maxipup. How are you this morning? Good, I hope?"

The owl hooted. "Good. I'm glad to hear that. Why don't you just come with me, no more sending you off for letters today! I know, I've been busy sending you places, I'm sorry about that!" Noah said, unlocking the cage. He and Billy Maxipup went out into the Grounds, where Noah's twin brother hid his wand.

Noah wanted to give Billy Maxipup some fresh air and plenty of room to stretch his wings, as he whispered to Billy, trying not to move his mouth to make him seem insane for talking to an owl. "Maxipup. My stupid twin, Billy Jupe, took my wand, and hid it somewhere out here. If you don't mind me leaving you alone for just a short short while, I will give you something for that wait."

And Noah walked off, looking around for his wand. It was rather light in coloration, almost gray, almost brown. But it was still hard to see. It was a natural color, wood was natural!

And he then heard a hoot. Several hoots in a row, as his owl hovered above a section of grass several yards away from Noah. His wand was there. It had grass stains on it, but Noah could always clean it off as needed. It wasn't broken, thankfully.

But it brought forth some thoughts about Billy Maxipup. Was he actually useful? Besides from delivering letters- and one time- a howler. Billy actually found Noah's wand. And Noah decided to give it another try, an experiment as you please. He saw a girl walk by, and quickly asked her if she could hold onto Billy for just a second, as Noah was going to hide something. The girl agreed.

The item in question was a comic book with Namor, the Marvel version of Aquaman. After hiding it, Noah thanked the girl, and gave her a knut in return as a sign of gratitude. He watched Billy fly off, and as Billy started to come in to where Noah hid it, behind a rock, he saw his twin holding onto it, as the owl came down, faster than a jet. His twin screamed, and Billy Maxipup scratched his arm.

His twin ran off, looking to find the infirmary. Noah smiled. His experiment was true. The owl was indeed incredibly useful, and maybe after training the owl a few more times, he could perhaps get to understand the brain of his owl, and why that owl would help Noah.

AngelFyre, if asked, would be hard-pressed to tell anyone what scared her because she just did not scare easily. Like anyone with a heart and the capacity to love, what most scared her was not fear for her own physical safety, but rather, fear of the loss of loved ones, whether that be her boyfriend, family, friends, or her animal pals. Raised in a muggle home that appreciated muggle horror movies, she surprised her parents at a very young age when they caught her up long past her bedtime watching ‘The Creature from the Black Lagoon’ alone, in the dark, and laughing. The idea that such silly things as monsters existing amused her 6 year old self. As she grew older and the scales began to fall from her eyes, she could look at the world and find that, indeed, monsters did exist; they just looked a lot more like her than Frankenstein’s monster or the Mummy.

Well, that was what she believed anyway, at least until she found her way to Hogwarts. Even still, she found that the half breeds who roamed these hallowed halls alongside her were not something to automatically run from, screaming like a whipped puppy and hiding and trembling in some dark corner, hoping to not be discovered. Was she glad to know they existed. Yes. Information is always power. Better to know than walk amongst them and be completely unprepared on the off chance… the very off chance… that something bad might happen. But truth be told, most of the nastiness and vile behaviors she witnessed this past year came from the human race, provoking the others, whether that be physically or in written articles to rile up a student population quite needlessly.

Part of being fearless had less to do with bravery, so to speak, and much more to do with preparedness and confidence in herself and in the guardrails that were naturally imposed on society in any number of ways to minimize the idea of risk. Everything was all a numbers game, figured out in some actuarial table somewhere by some bean counter. Was there risk in everything? Of course! One could conceivably drown drinking a glass of pumpkin juice, but that did not mean she would allow herself to be afraid to drink it. AngelFyre was not at all interested in the ‘What If” game. Everyday was filled with risk, but one had to turn over a certain amount of faith in other people to do their jobs, and to do it competently, to keep her, as well as themselves, safe. Because it was a numbers game, the odds generally heavily favored her. She can, and will choose to sky dive when she turns 16 because, while the jump might be intimidating and just a little nerve racking at first, it will also be a huge thrill. At heart, AngelFyre is an adventurer. It seems unlikely that one could be both and adventurer and scared of one’s own shadow. She has never been scared of shadows.

She was not, and is not, a reckless girl, usually. Everyone has their stupid moments. She was no exception. She knew risk was something to deal with and manage. And that was the crux of how she approached the idea of fear in everything she did. She simply tried to prepare herself to the best of her ability as her first line of defense. AngelFyre wants to experience life; not sit back and and simply read about or watch others living it. She wants to suck the marrow out of every moment allotted to her in the blink of an eye that she will reside on terra firma. That means getting out and meeting the world head on, come what may. In the past when the world bit back upon such head on meetings, it was wisely chalked up to a lesson learned, and one hopefully not to be repeated. In the future it will be much the same. She has seen no reason to change her way of thinking or feeling about it now.

Fear?

She will continue to meet it head on and likely come out on the other side breathing, and most probably even laughing.

"So? Have you thought about it?" It was one of those rare evenings when the family got together to eat dinner together but Eun-ji spent the whole day studying and didn't pay attention to whatever her mother has been saying. "Thought about what?" She asked for clarification. Eleanor sighed but proceeded to repeat herself nonetheless. "About becoming a healer. I said you will have talent for healing spells and now it's clear that you do. Don't you want to study to become one?" The Ravenclaw side eyed her father, who was frowning but didn't end up saying anything. She guessed he always hoped she would follow in HIS footsteps but gradually lost confidence the more he heard about the effectiveness of healing magic. If he thought his profession became any less fascinating to his daughter however, he would be incredibly wrong. "No...I told you already. I think both of your jobs are incredible and important but there is much to consider. I don't know if I want to dedicate my whole life to my work like you do."

Both adults looked away in guilt as she said this. Still, Eun-ji was not sorry for bringing it up. They all knew what their life was like and she simply answered her mother's question. "Also excelling at a couple healing spells hardly qualities me for an aspiring healer." Eleanor nodded at that. "You said there was an internship at the Hospital wing, didn't you? Maybe you could join and expand your knowledge." She suggested. The raven-haired girl shrugged. "Maybe." She would be lying if she said she haven’t thought about it. "I could show you more complicated potion making over the break too....only if you want of course. You could also visit St. Mungo's? It has been some time since you came to work with me."

Finally, the man sitting next to her cleared his throat. "I have some new patients too. Some very interesting cases...and the nurses miss you terribly." He said with a newfound confidence. Hearing she found both of their jobs incredible probably helped a great deal. "Of course...I'm sure I'll have time to do both. It's not like I have any other plans anyway. Is Gilbert still in?" She asked the surgeon in return. It was her favourite patient after all. The man nodded solemnly. "Yes, he went home for a bit but he had to be brought back recently. You should spend some time with him. I'm sure he won't mind if I explain a bit further about his condition to you." True...he most likely wouldn't. Eun-ji already knew a lot anyway. It was probably just the more gruesome details her father omitted when she was younger. It was time she learned those as well. The witch didn't take these things lightly but she was not someone to shy away from them either. The truth was, while she had yet to decide whether she wanted to follow in her parents' footsteps, she did enjoy learning about the human body. There were so many ways one could be broken and even more ways to fix it and yet...and yet there were so many things both muggles and wizards still needed to figure out. It was truly sad but also fascinating and she was eager to learn more.

Eun-ji has grown up surrounded by patients. She had already witnessed many things a girl her age probably shouldn't have but she did not hold that against her parents. She was grateful to know as much as she did and the fact that she wanted to extend said knowledge was probably the biggest proof of that. "When does your shift start tomorrow?" The girl turned to her father once more. Edward beamed proudly. "I have a morning shift. You better go to bed on time young lady." Well she was planning to anyway.

When Sophia first arrived at Hogwarts, she wasn't a very talented witch. Sure, it could be attributed to her upbringing as a muggle and her lifelong belief that sorcery was nonexistent with the exception of specific biblical heretical cases, but ultimately her timid nature in regard to casting spells or flying on a broom got in the way. As a result, for the first half of her first year, many of Sophia's spellcasting attempts either 'fizzled out' or had no effect whatsoever.

Her confidence in her abilities as a witch plummeted.

The only relief she got from her constant failures and self-deprecation was in Potions class - and, to a lesser extent, Herbology. She'd excelled in science class as a muggle, and ultimately potions class was very conductive to muggle scientist-like behavior.

Precise measurements, long, steady brew-times, and careful analysis of the results of the process were far easier for Sophia to manage than the chaotic, at-times unpredictable nature of other classes like Charms, Transfiguration or Defense Against the Dark Arts. She could follow the instructions in the book to the letter whilst understanding the nature of the ingredients, and as a result, she would excel.

With her affinity for all things Potions-related, Sophia began to notice a change in her own perception and behaviors when she was out and about.

If she saw a sprig of Lavender lying about on the castle grounds, she didn't just see a pretty plant clashing against the green of the grass. She saw in that lavender a potent calming agent and a possible ingredient for, say, a Sleeping Draught, or any other potion with similar calming effects.

She would find many ingredients lying about like this, carefully noting their location for later in case she needed them, or outright harvesting them immediately and storing them in her trunk in the dorms.

Sophia had always collecting things like this before coming to Hogwarts, her love for Potions simply broadened her horizons.

While her home in Ireland was filled to the brim with hundreds of collector's edition comic books, or action figures, or even just her movie collection, now she found that her collecting habit had expanded to various plants, rocks, insects, and even worms.

Though Sophia was often judged for her habits - called a 'packrat' or a 'trash collector' - her instinct to collect things she thought were cool or useful was finally actually beneficial. After seeing the ridiculous prices in the various ingredient shops in Diagon Alley, she was certainly thankful at her own ability to harvest at least some of her own ingredients.

WC: 530

This was something she longed for since day one at Hogwarts. This was so normal and natural for her as she saw her parents do it naturally. It was like this skill was imbued into her, dormant, waiting to get out to become the inseparable part of her.

Her innate striving for perfecting every spell, every incantation, every gesture — all of that was to masterfully gain the skill of casting spells without her wand. Of course, some spells might become weaker and some spells just cannot be cast without the wand, but still. Every aspect of her life would become easier, faster, cleaner. The perfection of optimisation.

She wasn't wasting time during her break from Hogwarts. On the contrary, she practised with her mother a lot. Not days and nights, of course. Where practice comes hard, the resting comes harder. Mother explicitly stated that overpractising wandless magic was as bad as not practising at all. It was elegant, intrinsic and delicate skill. She had to pay attention, but not grasp it hard.

The hardest part was to try to lose the mental connection to her wand. In four years, they became close friends. And now she had to pretend to break up, while still remaining close friends in reality. Sometimes she felt like the wand felt she was being cheated or betrayed — after all the spells we cast together, how dare you, Meenauh, to try casting spells without me?! This sort of thoughts were filling up her mind while practising. And they were exactly what made it difficult to concentrate.

The other part was to actually connect the magic to gestures. Meenauh knew little children were capable of accidental wandless magic, but it turned out accidental was actually easier than by request. Brain worked in funny ways: wizards could cast spells without intending to, but were sometimes struggling to cast a spell when they actually wanted to. Should you wave? Clap? Point your finger? Open your palms? It was like an avalanche coming at her after studying every spell in details, all those gestures with the wand. Now she had to cast the same spells... but without one very important component — the wand gesture. At the very beginning, it nearly cracked her head in half. It seemed impossible. It seemed like she was violating some magical rule. But, of course, with time, it was becoming clearer and more obvious. In a couple of months, even her mother gaped at certain spells, summoning her father to observe and clap in awe. Levitating a book with her right hand, with wand lying on the table. Cleaning the table by going over the inkblot with her palm. The most impressive was the Summoning Charm — getting a book without arming herself with a wand was the most efficient thing she ever did. Transfiguration was still to go, it was hard, really hard. But she wasn't graduating soon, so there was still time to master it.

This was an achievement. This was a height conquered by determination. Something she was actually proud of — for the first time since Merlin knows when. And she knew that she'll become better and better.

Theodorus knows that the goals he has originated with his father. That doesn’t make them any less his now, but he knows that originally they weren’t. So they will never be just his. He has nothing in his life that is just his – a hobby that isn’t expected of him, or something he discovered a love for all on his own. Every step he has taken has been guided by his parents, his father in particular. And honestly, Theodorus doesn’t mind this too much. He thinks he would have come to the same conclusions for himself, as well. That politics was for him, that he wanted to marry a suitable Pureblood and have an heir.

If Theodorus were to continue down this path, he would simply become a carbon copy of his father. He would talk like him, dress like him, act like him, and take up the same career as him. So finding that he has a passion for Potions during the summer before school started, when he able to read all of his new textbooks, was a shock. His parents do not have the best opinion of potion-making: they view subjects such as Transfiguration and Charms, even Defence Against the Dark Arts, as superior, simply because of the use of a wand.

Theodorus fell in love with the art of potions from the start, though. He was drawn in by the intricacies of the recipes, of how the ingredients interacted with each other, by the way the direction of the stirs mattered. It was all so interesting, and he even found himself intrigued by the plants too, and a desire to study his Herbology textbook again to read over the sections on plants that could be used as potions ingredients.

It is this love for Potions class, and potion-making, that will ultimately help to guide him down his own path, one where he is able to become what he wants to be, whether that be what his father intends for him or not. Finding an area at which he excels, but his family does not, will mean he has something just for himself. As a young Slytherin, who is desperate to prove himself and is filled with ambition, he needs to find somewhere that he shines apart from those who have always controlled his life, so that he can begin to find himself and make his own decisions.

This would also fit Theodorus as a character, because of who he is. He is an only child, who did not have siblings to keep him company. He is familiar with patience, having only himself to fill long stretches of time where he was expected to keep himself occupied. This patience would lend well to brewing potions. Additionally, he is intelligent, and curious by nature with a good work ethic. This is the drive behind him studying his Potions textbook over the summer – an intellectual curiosity about an area of magic he had not seen his family perform very often at all. Lastly, Theodorus is an introvert, much happier spending his time alone practising his slicing, dicing, chopping, and crushing of ingredients than he would be chatting about classes or idle gossip with his classmates in the common room. It is these things that provide him with the dedication needed to study ahead in Potions, not only becoming familiar with the material earlier than his classmates, but also understanding the material.
