Breakfast and Brainstorms
Howie was just about to reply to Rosie’s question as another red head ran up next to them. He gave the newcomer a quizzical look, not immediately recognizing her at first. Holy smokes! Verla! “Oh my gosh Verla! Hi! You changed your hair...” but before he could finish his statement, Verla went off on one of her usual tangents.
Howie just grinned at her as she spoke, having learned that it was just best to let his friend finish before he tried to get a word in. He smiled sheepishly as Verla asked if he and Rosie were dating. His feelings were very strong for Rosie, but the term dating didn’t quite register with him, thinking it was only something that older people did. Did eleven year olds date? Should he ask Rosie to date him? The thought wasn’t an unpleasant one. And what was Verla talking about. Some incident at the ball? Everything seemed normal when he was there.
“Umm...” Howie started to answer Verla’s question, casting a questioning look at Rosie, but before he could get any further, Verla was off. She turned a peculiar shade of green said something about cookies before she sprinted away.
Howie turned back to Rosie, the usual wide eyed expression that Verla caused him etched across his face. “Wow. That was...Umm...interesting.” He joined her in laughter. “Who knows. What was she on about? Do you know what happened at the ball? And doesn’t she know we are muggleborn too? I swear I told her that when we first met in the common room.” He said with a shrug. His mind strayed to Verla’s first question. Dating. Howie wanted to ask Rosie about it, but decided to wait for somewhere less crowded.
Looking down to his side, he saw that Verla had left her bag. Howie picked it up and showed it to Rosie. “Hey look, she left her bag. Should we try and go track her down? By the looks of it she is probably in the closest bathroom.”

Breakfast and Brainstorms
Rosie shrugged in response to Howie's question. "No idea." She smiled thinking about the night before. "I mean... I don't know what happened at the ball after we left." Indeed the two of them had went down to the lake long before Charles started trying to burn down Hogwarts. "I haven't talked to anyone besides you and Verla yet today." She scratched the top of her head, her curls seeming to swallow up her fingers. "I could swear we all had that conversation about our family. Thought that's what bonded over, actually." She shrugged. "I don't know." At this point, she chalked it up to the fact that Verla was going through a lot of stress with her family. That affected a person in a way that not much could.
When Howie picked up the bag, she nodded. "Yeah. Let's see if we can find her. I'm finished eating, anyway. Are you?" Rosie stood from the table, grabbing her own bag as she did. "You'll just have to stand outside the door while I check to see if she's in there." She shook her head in amusement. "Never a dull moment with that one, is there?" She stood there, waiting for Howie and prepared herself to enter a bathroom with a vomiting girl and all of the disgusting noises and smells that came with it.

“Hmm.” Howie ran his hand back through his hair, clearing it from his face. What could have happened at the ball? His night had been nothing short of perfection, he hadn’t even stopped to think about the rest of the student body. The news would spread quick though. “Must have been a crazy night, glad we left when we did.”
Howie now felt certain that he had told Verla that he too was a muggleborn, now that Rosie had confirmed it. She must have just forgotten, but he didn’t blame her. Verla’s situation was one Howie could barely fathom, her mind must be overwhelmed by it all.
He was however a bit angered and worried by Verla’s statement about a Slytherin, and something about hating her blood type. Had someone said something nasty to her? Or a fellow student? Howie detested bullies, and wouldn’t tolerate any of that kind of behavior. If one of these punks had a problem with muggleborns, they could take it up with him. Then they’ll see. He pushed aside the thought for now.
Rosie asked if he was ready. Taking a look at the half eaten croissant, it no longer had any appeal, considering they were about to track down a puker. He pushed the plate aside. “Yeah, let’s go!” He stood and slung Verla’s bag over his shoulder. “Sounds good, I’ll stand guard at the door.” He silently thanked the gods he wouldn’t be allowed in the bathroom. He laughed at her last comment. “She does keep thing interesting.”
