Hunter stood upon the bench in a ruffle of a damaged robe with a slight smell of singed hair. His face was slightly bruised, but it was very dry and ashy in appearance. One could only wonder how he ended up in such a ruffled state. As he explained to the Professor, he ended up being the unintended target of an incendio spell from a fellow first year. He himself was out on the grounds casually reading notes he had for DADA. Unfortunately, he ended up falling asleep accidentally.
Hunter had a very little sense of what rest was, nor how to manage time for it in the most efficient way. Almost every hour Hunter could either be found face planted in reading a book, or face planted in sleeping on a book. Nonetheless, it seemed two other students ended up getting in a dispute and one had cast the fire-producing spell. The aim was mighty far off, and Hunter ended up being the unfortunate soul to be hit by it. Worse yet, his notes for DADA ended up being burned to ashes. It wasn't a big deal since Hunter was already excelling academically in all his classes, but he was still upset since his effort was put to waste.
A burn healing paste could easily fix the small injuries Hunter had on the few bits of skin that were exposed, but he politely would decline if offered such an item. Some could call him stubborn and idiotic for having chosen to enter the potions room without having stopped by the Hospital Wing first. However, Hunter took opportunities and experiences seriously. Especially those in relation to harm from magic. He could feel the slight burns and pain of movement as his arms flowed around him. Healing paste could easily make the pain fade away, but it would require time and Hunter had already experienced the worst part of the burns when the spell first landed. To him, preventing pain was a much better thought than relieving it.
That is why he came in today, to try and brew a new kind of potion that should prevent the feeling of pain and wounds from fires rather than stop the pain and heal the wounds. There was also the fact that Hunter felt more comfortable in the potions room than in the Hospital Wing. For starters, he was much more used to the potions room than anywhere else. It tended to be quiet, and there was rarely a similar feeling of getting ingredients stuck beneath one's nails. Secondly, Hunter was too young to be of much assistance to Nurse Brumby in the hospital wing. From what he knew, only third years or above could be a helpful service. Still, Hunter was capable of being a great help by brewing potions of healing properties beneath the watchful eyes of Professor Wickham-Deakin. Third, (perhaps it was due to the extra time spent and the fact Hunter very much enjoyed potions) Hunter found Professor Wickham-Deakin to be his favorite of his teachers at Hogwarts.
Shifting his lightly healed and ashy skin, Hunter began the process for Blackfire Potion. He started by gathering 3 sprigs of mint and added them to a mortar; crushing them into a paste. He added 1 teaspoon of the paste into the cauldron before adding 2 sliced bursting mushrooms as well. Hunter never quite understood how one could collect the small mushrooms before they exploded. They were already collected and placed in jars before he could ever witness how his grandmother did it. It was a question he thought of bringing up to Professor Irons in the greenhouse when he had a chance.
He placed strong effort into stirring the cauldron 3 times in a clockwise motion. Slight flinches in Hunter's arm could be seen at certain intervals in each stir. It wasn't the first time he dealt with incidental fires, and it most likely wasn't going to be his last. Despite his slim physique and being very book-focused, Hunter had an odd aptitude for high endurance. He could take a multitude of flipendos or incendios, and the pain was a good reminder for himself as to why he wanted to brew potions and perfect his skills. After three stirs he waved his wand, turned on the heat, and left the cauldron to brew for 10 minutes.
Lowering the heat to a simmer, Hunter then added a fluid ounce of salamander blood to the brew. 8 more stirs were conducted on the cauldron in the counter-clockwise direction this time. Next were wartcaps, to which Hunter to pre-caution in preparing. The powder of a wartcap had the capability of causing an individual's skin to harden up and become crusty. Since Hunter's hands were already ashy, it would have been a bad combination if any wartcap came into contact with him. Placing two dried wartcaps into a mortar, Hunter crushed them into a fine powder before adding all of the wartcap to the cauldron (wearing gloves the entire time). Hunter then slowly counted to 20 seconds before swiftly casting 'Extinguo' on the flame. Stirring 7 more times (clockwise), Hunter waved his wand once more to turn the potion into an almost black color.
It felt overall finished, and he was satisfied with his accomplishment. Then, an idea came to Hunter to which he addressed Professor Wickham-Deakin, "Professor, is it possible to make something temporarily fireproof if it was soaked in this concoction?"

And to answer your question, it will not make something temporarily fireproof if it is soaked in it. The potion works purely through ingestion!

Wave your wand to complete the potion"Calming Draught," Hunter said while moving his finger across the text of his next intended potion. He was always happy to provide potions for Professor Wickham-Deakin, the Hospital Wing, or anyone in general. Although, Hunter usually was most excited to just learn and test his skills. The Calming Draught seemed exceedingly useful to Hunter as a way to clear one's mind or help those in current shock. A mental potion utilized for calming one's own mind sounded rather fascinating. Still, though, it was the practice of brewing new potions that Hunter really enjoyed.
He decided to waste no time and place 4 sprigs of lavender and 3 chamomile petals into a mortar while grinding them all into a mixed powder. He proceeded to add 4 measures of the powder into the caludron. Hunter's next ingredient was one he had actually never seen nor held before. The heart of a crocodile and the fact he had to use one made him question so many things. Like why a crocodile? Would an alligator's heart make a difference? How in the heck did someone figure out that a crocodile's heart was specifically required for this sort of potion? So many questions, but little time to find the answers to why. Hunter decided to let the idea slide and figure it out on his own later on in life. He proceeded to dice the crocodile heart and added it to the cauldron as well. Hunter gave a single stir and turned on the heat to high for a whole minute. Afterward, he lowered the heat to a medium level.
Into a new mortar to prevent cross-contamination, Hunter ground three sprigs of peppermint into a somewhat fine powder. He added it all to the cauldron and proceeded to stir in an anti-clockwise motion (5 times) with a flick of his wand at the end.
The boy left the cauldron to brew for 50-85 minutes, but finding something to do during that time was the slightly hard part. Hunter was well ahead in his classes and didn't see much reason to continue studying. He didn't care much for being extremely further ahead in studies when he really just wanted to practice potions a bit more. Hunter wondered if there was anything else he could improve upon when it came to potions. He did get the idea that perhaps he could improve his endurance with poisons. Hunter had dealt with a couple in the past, but the thought also brings to mind his greatest fear: Streelers. A silly and embarrassing fear of Hunter's that he never told anybody. If anybody knew he was afraid of magical snails then he'd probably be the laughing stock of Ravenclaw. Still, the thought and experience he had when he accidentally touched one that his grandmother owned as a pet really traumatized him. Even thinking back on the painful experience, Hunter felt his nerves proceed to go slightly into shock and his anxiety rise a bit. He looked over at the cauldron, and decided to try and finish the potion as soon as possible to help him forget the tragic experience.
After 50 minutes had gone by, Hunter reduced the heat beneath the cauldron to low and added two measures of standard ingredient. Three more rough stirs in a clockwise motion were enacted. Next was 1 dried poppy head ground into powder as well. Hunter began to think perhaps he'd have a good grip strength of sorts due to the amount of grinding he did in class. The poppy head powder was added to the cauldron, and Hunter proceeded to turn up the heat to high. Once high he waited for a boil to occur before counting down 40 seconds to then turn off the heat. Once turned off, he stirred three more times in a clockwise motion with another wave of his wand to finish the potion. despite the amount of hard work he did, Hunter still couldn't shake the thought of steelers from his head. He proceeded to fill a glass vial with the potion and slowly ingested it in order to calm himself down. With his new feeling of tranquility, Hunter faced the professor with another question, "Professor, what are your opinions on Streelers? Do you think one could develop poison resistance through constant contact with them?"

And to answer your question, streelers are quite interesting creatures, and their toxic shells are used in a number of potions. Unfortunately, there are no recorded instances of resistance being developed over time through regular exposure. I'd recommend against exploring that route for yourself.

Leave for 10-12 days to ferment
Hunter knew he only had a bit more time left till summer break was going to begin. He wanted to cram at least a couple more potions in before the break would begin so he would at least be able to understand just how well he had improved his skills. He had cursed a little under his breath in Swahili, wondering why he never tried to attempt the swelling solution sooner. Despite the simplicity of the potion, it required at least 10-12 days to ferment to be considered fully complete. There were enough days and time to finish the potion in such an amount, but the issue was Hunter hadn't quite expected such a potion to take so long. It could be considered the longest potion he was about to brew and his patience was really about to be tested. Nonetheless, better to start sooner than later.
Into the cauldron, he added 2 scoops of dried nettles. Next were puffer-fish eyes and Hunter cautiously added them to a mortar while wearing protective gloves. He knew pufferfish were poisonous in certain regions of their anatomy, but he wasn't exactly sure how poisonous they were in the eyes or if skin contact was enough to trigger a reaction. Better safe than sorry, and with that he added three eyes and crushed them into a fine powder. Two measures of the enigmatic powder were added to the cauldron with two tablespoons of water. The powder and water were then mixed within the cauldron, and Hunter then turned on the heat to a medium temperature. Over the course of 20 minutes, Hunter decided to think about the history or reasoning behind the ingredients he utilized. In the future, Hunter wanted to try and craft potions of his own, and thus understanding the ingredients added could bring understanding of what the potion was capable of.
Pufferfish eyes he assumed were obvious since a pufferfish was a great example of an already existing animal capable of swelling its own body. The eyes were probably the safest organ when it came to avoiding the poison within a pufferfish. Or perhaps the roundness of the eyes resembled spheres, a shape that can be associated with swelling; as is with balls, balloons, or the shape even a pufferfish would make. The dried nettles were a bit more complex, but Hunter knew they had medicinal properties in treating possible muscle or joint pain. It made Hunter assume that perhaps the process of swelling one's body could be painful, and thus the nettles help reduce such displeasure.
After 20 minutes, Hunter added a bit more water and took note to "carefully" stir the mixture within the cauldron. After a few stirs, he waved his wand in a motion so elegant that one could tell he was used to it. The motion of waving his wand for a potion had essentially been burned into Hunter's muscle memory by this point of his life. Next, Hunter waited an hour for the potion to brew itself. He was unsure of what to do within that hour but decided to just readjust some notes in his journal regarding rumors spreading around Hogwarts about other students.
With an hour passing by, Hunter proceeded to add 1 bat spleen to the cauldron while then stirring four times in an anti-clockwise motion. Reducing the heat to low for half a minute afterward, Hunter waved his wand one last time to "complete" the potion. He stretched his arms, but was satisfied enough with the results, even though an actual swelling potion would require 10-12 days to fully finish.

RecipeDeflating DraughtReducioDeflating Draught
Ingredients: 2 Measures of Honey, 3 Peppermint Leaves, 1 Shrivelfig, 1 bundle of Fluxweed (3 sprigs), 2 measures of Scarab Beetles
Add 2 measures of honey to the cauldron and place on a low heat.
Add 3 Peppermint leaves.
Allow to simmer on a low heat for 15 minutes
Finely dice 1 Shrivelfig.
Add 1 measure of diced Shrivelfig to the cauldron.
Stir clockwise until the Shrivelfig is completely dissolved
Add 1 bundle of Fluxweed to the cauldron
Stir 3 times, anti-clockwise
In a mortar, add 2 measures of Scarab Beetles and crush into a paste
Add the past to the cauldron
Allow to simmer for an additional 19 minutes.
Wave your wand to complete the potionPeppermint leaves and honey? Hunter was honestly just tempted to prepare a sweet snack for himself instead of just brewing a potion at this point. If he wasn't always being supervised while brewing, he most certainly would be eating too much honey within a day. A natural sweet tooth that he deemed to be his greatest weakness. If you wanted Hunter to do something for you, a promise of sweets would be the easiest and quickest way to do it. He thought about eating some chocolate frogs later in the day, but for now to just focus on his next potion.
Despite the temptations, Hunter held back and added two measures of honey to the cauldron without trying to eat some himself. He began to recall reading a book about honey bees ad killer bees. Killer bees were supposedly a mix of European and African honey bees, but what Hunter read that interested him was the fact that their honey was supposedly much sweeter than normal honey crafted by the average honey bee. He never tried it, but he was curious as to how much sweeter such a material could be. He began to wonder if it would be capable of changing or even enhancing the effects of potions crafted with normal honey.
Back to the cauldron, Hunter turned up the heat to low and added three peppermint leaves. Hunter allowed the pot to simmer for 15 minutes, mesmerized by the odd and delicate smell coming from inside but also began to dice a shrivelfig. After the 15minutes, Hunter added the diced shrivelfig to the cauldron. Slowly stirring clockwise waiting for the fig to fully dissolve within.
Next, a bundle of fluxweed was dropped within and stirred anti-clockwise three times. The next ingredient was new to Hunter, and he was rather curious about it. Scarab beetles are an oddity that held great symbolism in ancient Egyptian times. A symbol of rebirth, renewal, and transformation to one's will. Two were placed into a mortar and crushed into a paste; all of the paste was then added to the cauldron. 19 minutes was a very odd text for Hunter to read. He was capable of counting up to 20 minutes unconsciously since 20 minutes was simple and a common number to think about. 19 was rather odd, but he decided to count in his head for the occasion just to be safe. After 19 minutes of simmering, Hunter waved his wand to finally finish the potion.
Again, he hadn't brewed it to own or use the potion for his own needs as of current, but rather for the experience and the challenge.

Memory is such a fickle and strange thing. It's capable of being in both the present and past and is never the same for everyone. Some people can recall some things, a few things, and some can recall almost everything. It's almost never the same, and it can be altered by oneself without realization. People will rely on their own memory in almost any situation. Yet with magic, it can be changed, forgotten, or even altered. Sometimes memories can be blocked and hide information to protect oneself.
Hunter was again in the potions classroom, prepared to craft a memory potion. He had a few doubts about his childhood memories, and he wanted to make sure he could rely upon the teachings of his grandmother and mother. Also, many students at Hogwarts began to request memory potions from Hunter in hopes he could provide them with one. It made sense that having the potion would be useful in many situations, and Hunter decided actually having the potion could be useful in creating a few friendships and getting a couple of students off his back.
Into a cauldron, he added 8 fl oz. of purified water into the cauldron. A pure and clean memory required a pure and clean amount of water... Hunter supposed. He brought it to a boil before adding a blue-spotted jobberknoll feather to the mix. Hunter always did his research before conducting experiments, brewing, or trials. It certainly made sense to include a jobberknoll feather for a potion about memory. The jobberknoll would scream a long amount of time upon death of every last sound it heard in its life. As if recalling every sound it ever heard from present to past, just like one could with normal memory. After adding the feather, Hunter stirred three times in an anti-clockwise motion. He left it to brew and began to prepare for another unsettling encounter with a mature mandrake.
After having stewed a mature mandrake with proper protection and procedures, Hunter then chopped it up. He walked over to the cauldron as thirty minutes had passed according to his pocket watch, and he lowered the heat to a medium. He then added 5 oz. of the chopped mandrake and began to stir five times in a clockwise motion. Hunter walked away and began to walk a bit back and forth. There was a memory from his mother and grandmother about basic healing that he couldn't recall. It sounded important, but every time he tried to think about it, it just faded away and didn't seem clear.
Before 30 minutes had been reached, Hunter placed 3 sprigs of dried sage into a mortar and began to grind it into a medium-fine powder. He added it all to the cauldron, and then began to stir clockwise four times, taking note of the term "slowly." Finely chopped sprigs of Galanthus Nivalis (3 were used) were then added before turning up the heat to high beneath the cauldron. Hunter waved his wand and waited another 60 minutes while frustratingly attempting to recall what his mother and grandmother had said.
After 60 minutes, Hunter turned off the heat, and a last 5 stirs in an anti-clockwise motion were conducted. With one last wave of his wand, Hunter was finally satisfied with how he finished the potion. He certainly wouldn't forget how to brew such a complex potion.
