ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | It was now 11:00AM. Everyone going to Hogwarts had boarded the train and it was now taking off, carrying them away from the station. Kim looked around and chose a compartment near the front of the train, putting his trunk up above his head and secured it there. The section he'd chosen was empty for now, which was perfect for him. He was a boy who didn't like being around lots of people. Being alone suited him quite well. A yawn escaped his lips. Even though it wasn't that early, he knew he was in for a long train ride. Part of him debated about sleeping for the majority of it but another part was curious to see if something fun would happen. After all, his parents had told him all about their first year and the train ride to the castle. What if something fun could happen to him too? If he slept, he might miss it all. But right now, there was no one in the compartment. So he didn't have to worry about it, right? Kim opened the book he'd taken out of the trunk before having stowed it above the compartment. It was his Transfiguration book. He'd chosen this one because it was supposedly the hardest to learn. So if he studied it beforehand, perhaps it would be a little easier. After a great deal of time, or at least what seemed to him as a great deal of time, Kim closed the book. Yes, he got it now. Yup. It was definitely going to be the hardest class to handle. Of course, he didn't think he couldn't do the spells. No, that wouldn't be a big problem for him. But the homework? Muggle theory, physics and chemistry? He didn't know much about muggle things at all, due to his parents' aversion to anything muggle-related. Well, other than muggle sweets. Kim knew pretty much anything and everything there was to know about sweets. It was an obsession of his, one that he'd always possessed, even as a small child. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Marina followed the boy onto the train. She slowed down once she had reached the train. There were so many people on the train, Marina had not expected the amount of people there. A particularly pretty owl, one of the students had, caught her eye. Marina watched it for a few seconds. Then continued walking through the train. At last, she found the boy who had helped her.
"Could I join your compartment?" Marina asked. The boy nodded. She put her trunk away and sat down. Marina noticed the boy was reading his transfiguration book. Transfiguration was one of the classes Marina had been most exited about. Changing one object into another was a rather intriguing concept. Another reason Marina was looking forward to transfiguration was that it seemed to have some aspects of muggle science.
Since the boy had already attended Hogwarts Marina thought she would ask him a few questions about transfiguration. "Do you like transfiguration? How are the classes?" Then it occurred to her that she had forgotten to introduce herself. "I am Marina by the way. What is your name?" Marina looked out the window at the scenery, while she waited for his response. This was going to be a long train ride

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | It was around this time that the door slid open. Kim looked up to see the same girl he'd helped earlier out on the platform, who asked to come inside. He nodded and watched as she entered the compartment and slid the door closed behind her. As the girl spoke and then introduced herself, Kim realized she thought he was a returning student. "Ah, this is actually going to be my first year there." He told her and then gestured down at his green robes. "This is just something my parents cooked up, fighting over what House I'll get into. It's not official or anything, it's just clothes." Kim explained to ease Marina's confusion. "But I think Transfiguration is going to be difficult." "It is considered to be the hardest to learn in magic, so I'd think the difficulty level would be pretty big, even as a first year." He said with a shrug of his shoulders. "Are you looking forward to it?" Kim asked, curious. "Did your tutors prepare you beforehand?" He added, wondering just how prepared she was. "Ah, I'm Kim." The white haired boy replied, finally giving her his name. But not his last name. "Is this your first time on the Express?" He added, knowing you could take the train to places other than Hogwarts if you desired. Kim himself had been to Hogwarts before. Not inside the castle but out on the grounds. He'd gone to summer camp the previous year to check it out. He hadn't participated in any of the games but had preferred to keep his distance and merely watch others. It had been quite the eye-opener and he was glad he'd gone. Still, actually attending Hogwarts was different. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

"I don't understand why everyone cares so much about the houses. It is not that important in my opinion. Everyone ends up in the same place in the end." Marina paused, "My family actually placed a bet on what house I would be in. My father and little sister Rose think I'll be in Hufflepuff, my mother and twin sister Koharu think Ravenclaw, and my other little sister Azealia thinks I will be a Gryffindor. Whichever one of them wins gets a hundred dollars." Marina continued, "It must be hard having your parents fighting over what house you will be in. It is not like it's their decision anyway. Only you and the hat can make that decision. What house do you think you will be in?
"Transfiguration did not look that hard in the book. I thought it was going to be one of the easier subjects. I was looking forward to it." Marina said. She was now starting to wonder whether she had underestimated how hard transfiguration was going to be.
"I did not know wizards had tutors." Marina said. She had thought that was a muggle thing.
"Yes this is my first time on the express. Marina answered. She thought it was a bit of an odd question because no one rides the Hogwarts express until their first year, but maybe he knew something she didn't. Have you been on it before? Marina asked.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Kim shrugged his shoulders. "There's probably something we don't know about them. Or maybe it's just competitive spirits." He said, wondering himself what the difference between the Houses were. Was there actually any difference? Colors could be worn by anyone. Houses didn't really matter, the people who were with you did matter. If you had the House you wanted but were surrounded by horrible people, would it even be worth it? Kim didn't know what House he'd get into but wanted to get into one of the ones his parents had belonged to back in their days. Only because he'd get destroyed if he ended up in a different House. Therefore, it was essential for him to get into one of those Houses. Even if he didn't belong to either of them, he still had to become part of one of them. Part of him wanted to get into Ravenclaw just because he felt as if Ravenclaw was the House for him. But a larger part felt more responsible for carrying out his parents wishes for him. "Well, technically not everyone ends up in the same place at the end, depending upon your House. If you win the House Cup more often than other Houses, you get advantages that can set you ahead in life. So, being in the 'right' House does actually make a difference." Kim told the girl, having heard all about this from his parents all the freaking time. As Marina spoke about her own family and their betting on what House she'd get into, Kim nodded. "What House do you want to get into?" He asked, curious. "I need to get into Gryffindor or Slytherin. I'm kind of partial to Ravenclaw as I feel that House suits me more. But I don't see it ever happening in my case." Kim said with a sigh and a shake of his head and let his blue eyes flicker over Marina for a few seconds. "If given a choice as to how to make my parents proud, I'd probably choose Slytherin. But I'm good with either Slytherin or Gryffindor." He told Marina. A smirk came to his lips at her next words. "Transfiguration is one of the hardest and most difficult subjects to master I hear. I've heard that it seems easy at first but when you start to tackle it that's when it shows its true colors. I have faith in my ability to do the practical aspects of it but understanding the theory and scientific parts of it seems really hard to me. Maybe it'll be easier for you though, everyone is different." Kim said with a shrug of his shoulders. Marina then showed her surprise that wizards had tutors and the white haired boy chuckled. Did she really have that great an impression of wizards? "Of course we do. Not everyone is intelligent enough to know how to do things right off the bat!" He said, rather amused by the girl before him. Marina confirmed that this was her first time on the Hogwarts Express and then asked if he'd been on it before. "Mm. I was on it earlier this year. I went to summer camp to see how things would be when I came for my first year. It was actually pretty interesting, which made me curious as to how things would go during an actual term." Kim told Marina. The trolley witch stopped by and knocked on the compartment door around that time. "Care for any sweets, dearies?" She asked. Kim nodded and selected a small amount of treats from the cart. He glanced over at Marina. "You gonna grab anything? If not, you can share some of mine with me!" Marina listened to what Kim was saying. ”What’s a house cup? Is it some kind of collectable mug?” Marina asked. She didn’t understand how a cup could give anyone an advantage in life.
Marina hadn’t thought much about which house she wanted to be in much. Maybe she should have thought about it more. She had heard that there was some kind of test, but what if that test involved her picking which one she wanted to be in. Usually, when she had to pick things like this she would pick whichever group had the most of her friends, but all of her friends were muggles. I’m not sure which house I want to be in. They all have good and bad qualities. If I had to choose I’d probably pick Ravenclaw since Ravenclaw’s are supposed to be smart. It is always good to be surrounded by smart people.” Marina replied.
”If you are correct about the hardest part of Transfiguration being the scientific theories then it probably won’t be as hard for muggle-borns as it will be for wizards since muggles learn about science it school.” Marina said as she peeked out the window, ”Maybe it won’t be as hard for you as you think it is going to be.”
”Was summer camp fun? Did you learn any magic?” Marina asked.
Marina looked at the sweets. She hadn’t heard of any of them. Did wizards really have their own candy? ”Which ones do you recommend?” Marina asked

Before he'd thought Marina was just new to the Express and Hogwarts. But still part of a wizarding family. Even if she wasn't a pureblood or wizard-born, she could have been a halfblood. But now... he wasn't too sure. Could she be a full on muggle? If so, a lot of things were starting to make more sense, like the fact that she didn't know wizards had tutors. Almost as if she wasn't counting herself as being a wizard in the first place. Marina's next words made him sure that she was a muggle-born and not from the wizarding community. After all, all wizards knew what the House Cup was. Even the ones who didn't attend Hogwarts. The only way they wouldn't know would be if they went to a foreign wizarding school but then, they would have known that wizards had tutors. All of these thoughts ran into Kim's head within a matter of seconds and as Marina looked up at his expectantly, the white haired boy cleared his throat. How did he explain this? It would be a long explanation and he'd rather avoid it but at the same time, it wasn't as if he had anything else to do right now. "There are 4 Houses at Hogwarts that we are sorted into...." Kim told Marina. "We are awarded house points for various things throughout the year. You can win and lose these points at any given time at the discretion of the professors, or the Headmaster. At the end of the month the points are tallied up and whatever House has the most points at the time wins. The House that wins get a trophy, which is called the House Cup. It gets placed in the Trophy Room later. The House that wins the House Cup of the month gives out rewards." "But only to its own students. The rewards are unique that change each month. As a result, students who belong to the House that wins the House Cup are given an advantage and can get ahead of other students. Thus why being in the right House makes all the difference in the world." Kim told Marina. Not caring what House you got into was only something a muggle or a foreign student might think to say, without knowing any better. You wouldn't intentionally sabotage yourself, right? Kim knew all these things because of his parents. They had told him pretty much everything to prepare him for his upcoming time at Hogwarts castle. Why? Because they wanted him to make a name for himself there and do his family proud as a Sato descendant. This was something Kim cared even less for and wished he didn't have that particular last name. He'd rather be on the bottom of the pile and have to work his way to the top, than be privileged and be whispered about when his back was turned. Rumors about how he'd done nothing to get where he was. Wizards trying to obtain his friendship in exchange for favors. Not being able to trust anyone around him..... He nodded as Marina agreed with him on Ravenclaw and also commented on how Transfiguration might not be as hard for muggle-borns. Yup, she was a muggle-born. As Marina asked him about summer camp, Kim thought for a few seconds. "It was alright. I didn't really interact with anyone, or take part in activities. I don't tend to get along with people easily. But it seemed fun to me. The food there was delicious that's for sure." He told her, recalling the barbecue. "I didn't learn any magic then." "But I saw a lot of it there." Kim added. As soon as Marina expressed interest in the sweets and snacks, Kim's face brightened and almost lit up. "Chocoballs are my favorite! They're delicious, round chocolate balls with a heavy filling of strawberry mousse and clotted cream inside. Chocolate frogs are also fun to nibble on. There's also the mini cauldron cakes, marshmallow biscuits, pepper imps, pumpkin pasties, and sugar quills!" Kim went on a rampage, listing off the sweets. "You can also get all these treats at Honeydukes too!" He added. Currently, Kim had all of them, which he intended on sharing with Marina... If she wanted to, that is. "The only ones you have to watch out for are the chocolate frogs and pepper imps. When you open a chocolate frog box, they tend to jump out really fast. Which means you need to keep hold of them, or bite them quickly before they can escape. The chocolate frog boxes also come with a wizard card you can collect. A lot of wizards tend to collect them and then trade duplicates for ones they don't have." Kim told her with a bit of a nod. And then continued his explanation. "As for the pepper imps, when you eat one of these make sure you don't face your mouth towards the seat cushions. You can spit out some minor fire." |

”Wow,” Marina replied, ”What are the rewards? Which house has won the most house cups?” She asked. Marina wanted to know more about the house cup thing now that she understood why it was so important.
”Summer camp sounds like a very interesting experience. It is too bad they didn’t teach you any magic while you were there. Were there any spells that you saw there that you are particularly excited to learn?” Marina asked. She didn’t know very much about spells. Marina had done a little research on them with her sisters, but most of the interesting ones she had found seemed incredibly challenging.
Marina grabbed some of each of the sweets Kim recommended, except the peppermint imps she didn’t want to set anything on fire on her first day. ”What is honeydukes?” Marina asked as she unwrapped one of chocoballs.
She took a bit of the chocoball, "This is delicious. I wish muggle stores sold these.” Marina exclaimed.
Marina decided that when she got to Hogwarts, she would mail some of the chocoballs to her sisters. She had promised to tell them anything interesting that happened at Hogwarts before she had left. Marina was pretty sure they would also be interested in most of the things she had learned so far on this train ride especially the house cup.

What were the rewards and which House had won the most House Cups at Hogwarts? Good questions. "I'm not exactly sure what the rewards will be when we get there. I hear they change every month, at least during the time my parents were there." Kim told her. "But I'd assume there will be rewards like money, brooms and other things witches and wizards want to obtain. Regardless of what they are, they'll definitely be worth getting. After all, you can always sell them to others if you don't want the item and make some money that way. Or trade the item." "As long as the item you're trading costs the same as the item you want, you can exchange them." Kim told Marina. "As for House Cups... I'm not entirely sure which House has won the most Cups. I do know Ravenclaw has won a lot of them in the past. My parents were lamenting about it before I got on the train." As Marina said it was a shame they hadn't taught him anything at summer camp, Kim nodded. "It's most likely because I wasn't an official student then." "They probably only teach spells to actual students." Kim thought for a few seconds as Marina asked him what spells he was most excited to learn about. "Probably the Fire-Making Spell, Knockback Jinx, Smokescreen Spell, Blindfolding Spell, Disarming Charm, Weather Modifying Charm, Wind Jinx, and all the Color-Changing spells. They seem like the most interesting to me." Kim told her with a nod, letting his blue eyes flicker over her for a moment or two. "Honeydukes is the best sweets shop at Hogsmeade." He paused for a moment, did Marina even know what Hogsmeade was? Or was she unfamiliar with that particular place too? Just in case, Kim added more. "Hogsmeade is the place wizarding folk go to unwind, relax + shop for awesome things, including food, snacks + sweets. It's similar to Diagon Alley but not the same." Kim told her. Marina should know what Diagon Alley was. Even if she was a muggle, the witch or wizard that had met with her before would have taken her to the area to get her school supplies. "They are delicious. I love them so much. They're my favorite chocolate sweet." Kim told her with a smile.... He popped one into his mouth. "Are you looking forward to anything in particular when you get to Hogwarts?" Kim asked. |

So I figure around this time is a good time to end the thread but I have a slight problem.
During Kim's initial train ride, I had him interact with a bunch of people as he made his way into various compartments throughout the trip. As the compartments he was in kept filling up and bothering his social anxiety, Kim would leave each of them and head to a different one that had less people inside.
So to end this thread, I need to have Kim leave the compartment by saying it starts to fill up with more and more people. There will not be any PCs coming into the thread to do this, so they will be random npcs. Hope that's alright with you! Please let me know somehow via owl/discord!
