Down Into the Cold, Murky Depths
Kathleen stripped off her clothes, gave a quick glance up to the castle to make sure no one was watching her naked and pulled on her swimming things. It was early in the morning, the sun just dawned over the beautiful green hills and Kathleen had decided to go for a swim in the lake.
She climbed onto a huge rock at the beach and jumped into the water. Headfirst.
Her red hair enveloped her face as she plunged in and she raised one hand covered in tiny bubbles to stroke it away. The water was of a bright turquoise, only further down, a few metres into the lake, it changed slowly but surely into a murky brown. Kathleen couldn't dive that far anyway. She swam back up with energetic strokes, her wet head breaking through the surface. A happy sigh echoed over the grounds.
She swum a few lenghts. It cleared her mind and made her happy, she was used to swimming, she didn't even shiver in the water which everyone else would have considered as icy cold. The lake enveloped her as if it was a blanket, a cool, turquoise blanket, the best one in the world. If people would just live in the water, Kathleen would cope splendidly -well, of course, she could only swim on the surface. She didn't have gills.
When she turned around, she saw a gaggle of other first-years coming down from the castle. She didn't mind, maybe they liked swimming too? She gave a huge smile, even though the scholars couldn't possibly see it, stuck out her left arm and waved happily. Wanting to greet them, she kicked off and swum back. "Hello!", she called. The robed students walked down the hill, to the lake's beach. They were nearly there as the young Ravenclaw girl reached the middle of the Great Lake, where the water below her was deepest and coldest. Now she shivered a little. She couldn't see the ground anymore. Just murky depths. For a moment she thought that she had seen something move down there, an almost human-like creature, but in the blink of her blue green eyes, it was gone. Don't be silly, she reassured herself. Come on, silly thing, nothing lives in that lake! She moved a bit. And that was when disaster struck.
Something, it felt like a hand, slimy and wet, but like a human hand, grabbed her thin ankle with firm grip. Kathleen struggled to get free, she screamed and screamed, but it would not budge. An arm slung around her waist, terrible pain, it was so awfully strong, as if it could crush every single organ in the area of her abdomen. A leg kicked her hard, making her scream with pain, it brought the tears to her eyes. The students just stood there. Open-mouthed. Frozen. "Help me! Please!" The girl swallowed water, the terrible creature, whatever it was, pulled her down. She coughed and sputtered, eyes streaming, as she was pulled deeper and deeper. "Help! I need help! Get a teacher! Help!!!" It was terror as she had never felt before, they couldn't get someone in time, she would drown, she would find her grave in the cold, murky depths of the Great Lake. She gave an almighty struggle, a hard kick, but she was no match for this ... thing. The situation seemed completely hopeless.

Gemini walked into the sun, a smile comfortably forming as the warmth made her skin tickle. It was getting hot that day so Gemini left her jeans and sweaters in her dorm, trading them in for a lightweight periwinkle playsuit. She hugged her books to her chest as she pushed her unreasonably long hair away from her face. Today was a good day to study outside instead of cramped either in her dorm or in the back of the library. She might even build up the courage to talk to someone. A group of students from her year were walking in front of her, but the anxiety took over and she chose to avoid them and walk towards the other side of the water.
Looking up Gemini noticed the girl in the water wave to the other students. She wasn't surprised the girl didn't see her, she was used to it. Finding a quiet spot under a tree, she sat down placing her books next to her. With a deep sigh she went to pick up a book when...
"Help me! Please!"
The yell startled Gemini as she dropped her book and bolted up. Something was very wrong. She saw the girl in the lake struggle and suddenly she was pulled under. Gemini ran to the group of first year just a couple of metres away. "Get some help! GO! Get a teacher!" she said shaking the student from the shock. Quickly two of them ran towards the doors. Gemini's stomach dropped as she kicked her shoes off and ran into the lake about knee deep. Struggling to run into the lake, Gemini called out, "I'm coming! Don't worry! I'm coming!" She could no longer see the girl and made the final decision.
With a smooth dive she swam under water with her wand in hand. Her eyes stinging and her body slowly absorbing the shock of the freezing temperatures. Gemini stopped under water and frantically turned looking for the fire haired girl amongst the deep blue murky waters. Suddenly a flash of red appeared in her peripheral vision within the dark brown waters, as Gemini rushed to swim closer.
The girl was struggling against a creature that was hard to see and probably something Gemini had never heard of before. As she reached out she managed to gain the hand of the girl and pulled hard. The creature began to move more frantically. Gemini closed her eyes quickly and tried to focus on the situation. With all of her might she grabbed the creature and forced it away. Gemini let out a yell, the sound muffled and accompanied by bubbles as she was scratched in the leg. And with a tiny miracle the push had worked just enough for the creature to be knocked far back. Gemini pulled the girl as hard as she could as they both rushed as fast as they could away.
As they neared shallow water their bodies broke through the surface of water gasping for air. Gemini's muscles ached as she helped the girl crawl onto the bank and her body finally gave in and slumped onto the sand. Breath heaving tremendously as she tried to suck in as much oxygen as her lungs would allow. This never would have happened in her hometown.

Down Into the Cold, Murky Depths
"Get some help! GO! Get a teacher!"
Lilly had been sitting with her year mates speaking about the charms homework when a frantic yell was heard above the light waves of the great lake.
Looking up from her parchment, Lilly sees a young girl in a frantic rush towards her and her year mates. The girl bolted up towards her and shook the others out of their shock and sent two of her friends running.
Lilly watched as two of the girls ran towards the castle in a bid to find a teacher. Lilly Frantically stands up and rushes to the edge of the lake only to see the other girl who had called out for help, only stopping to rid her self of her shoes before she plunged into the icy waters of the lake.
Lilly turns her head towards the castle in the hope of seeing her friends and a teacher return but there where not to be seen.
Lilly then switches back to the lake, ridding her self of her robe, so she could jump in but as she did so, the two girls from the lake began nearing shallow water, and she could see that their bodies were breaking through the surface of water gasping for air.
The young girl who sent two of Lilly's friends to find a teacher is now shoving the girl that got caught in the waters of the lake on to the bank. As Lilly nears the girls, she can clearly see that one of them is Gemini form her charms class.
Reaching the girls, Lilly quickly made her presence know.
Gemini, can you hear me, are you alright? spoke Lilly loudly.
In response to that question, the girl near Gemini let out a ragged breath.
Hearing this, Lilly checked over the physical appearance of both.
Thankfully, Lilly discovered they were out of breath and exhausted with a few cuts and bruises but overall no major damage was found.
Lilly looks up at hearing the loud stomping of running feet to see her charms teacher and her classmates coming back.
The teacher reached them in record time and Lilly told her what she had found. The charms teacher nodded and Created two stretches.
Lilly helped the teacher escort them to the hospital wing
But all Lilly can think is, Thank god, Gemini reached the girl in time and they did not drown.
