Maybe no absolute favorite, but dueling with Alan makes me feel a certain way.

How do you prepare for a match?
Same as last year, cut the candy in half the meal before so I have post-match candy to look forward to.

It can easily be a solo sport, to be honest. But the team aspect of it brings more long-term connection, I guess. But I believe that's for any activity that involves teams. So, three reasons would be hard to come up with.
What is the best part about competing?
I try to not compete. I try to win.
Who do you wish was watching you perform in every duel?
Actually, no one. The crowd is sort of distracting and if I'd know there's someone close watching, I may be distracted as well. On the other hand... it is supporting.
What qualities make a teammate a good teammate?
Perfectionism. *laughes*
How does being a duellist make you a better person?
I've found out long time ago which spells I won't ever use on a person.
What is one thing you do after a good duel?
Galton has a treat for these moments.
Do you get butterflies before duelling? If so, what do you do to calm the butterflies before competing?
I read that the butterflies appear when you fall in love with someone. I like duelling as a friend, we're not in love, so I've never seen butterflies appearing, so no need to calm them down? If anything, there's always Immobulus up for a treat.
If you could play another sport - muggle or wizarding - what would it be?
I don't know much about the muggle sports except that one with a ball that you kick around. I don't think I'd do anything else but duelling. But also, I do it at school, I wouldn't go for it professionally.
How old were you when you first started duelling?
I guess seriously I joined the team when I was twelve. But I tried it at the end of the first year.
Who inspires you?
Mother and Father.
What one word describes you?
Determination.
What do you give up to participate on the Duelling team?
Why giving something up when you can reschedule and rearrange?
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
Totally. Without it, every duel would be just a physical challenge of aiming and dodging. Watch Dmitri fight to get a better answer to this.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors duelling next season?
Come to practice on time and I will spare you.
Where you think there can be improvement on in the team/during matches?
Sometimes I fear we do not practise enough. But then I remember that we've already scheduled a lot of sessions already. I think I just can't stop practising until everything is perfect.
Who is your favourite member on the team and why?
My partner and co-captain, Galton Lansdale. Because he is Galton the Glorious. For details, you have to just watch him duel at least once.
What do you fear the most during a duel?
Petrificus Totalus. I can't wait to learn Protego just to be able to counter this one.
Anything you wish to tell your captain or co-captain?
That I'm glad I'm back on the captains team and that I can learn new things from them. I like strategising together.
A short sentence to describe each of the other houses' style of duelling:
Slytherin is still "Everything for the win". Hufflepuff seems to struggle as they have a lot of young members, so "When this will stop?" should be a good phrase, although during our last duel that one year gave us quite a challenge. Ravenclaw is "Precise". No suprise there, though.
Name one duellist (can be from any house) you wish you could be and why?

How do you prepare for a match?
We're practising with my duelling partner, of course.

Duel to win. Fun comes around.

"Well I don't see much reason for it other then testing your magical ability in real combat. Hogwarts is dangerous sometimes, and it's useful to know at least a bit of pain, along with what you can and can not do."

"Elena Jangleto, my parents, and my sister."
What qualities make a teammate a good teammate?
"Patience and determination, probably."
How does being a duellist make you a better person?
"It doesn't, unless by better you mean more skilled."
What is one thing you do after a good duel?
"Cry. Wait, you said duel again? Uh... go to sleep?"

"I don't see how bug catching is helpful, but I suppose that I do get them. There's really know way to calm them down, is there?"

"Uhhh.... Cueling. You've never heard of it? It's just like Dueling, but with a C instead of a D. It's great."

"I was 13. Didn't lose a single duel that year."

"The Hogwarts administration. Their ability to persuade government officials to not shut down their school is truly wondrous."

"Lamik! Names are useful that way."

"The right to say "I have never been set on fire."

"For the love of all that is good, do not jump in front of your team mates spell."

"Honestly, I'm not a fan of the time limit."

"Can I just point out how terrifying it is that setting your opponent on fire is allowed during duels? Muggles consider doing it during WAR a crime."

It makes you trust other people more and not rely only on yourself. You have to be one with your teammate to be efficient in a duel.

Visit opponents in hospital wing, ask if they're feeling okay. If they're not in hospital wing, just unwind for the rest of the day.

Not really, only when I know someone on the opposing team.

Probably quidditch or chess

Teaches me that magic is a double edge sword.

Take a warm shower to wash of the sweat, grime and blood.

Rarely. But if I do, its a warm lavender shower to calm the nerves.

Equestrianism. Be it magical or non, I've had a growing affinity for horses.

My great aunt, Astrid. She is a retired auror and 'monster hunter'.

Time. Managing studying for o.w.l.s while participating in an extra-curricular can often be stressful.
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
Yes. As I stated earlier, frustration can get in the way, often impacting the quality of spellcasting.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors duelling next season?
Practice, practice.
What do you fear the most during a duel?
I fear going overboard, hurting my opponents excessively and causing psychological trauma. Magic can heal physical wounds, but not the ones in our head.

We are rather divided.

Ravenclaw: Provident. Slytherin: Practical. Hufflepuff: Principled ('P's were unintentional
Name one duellist (can be from any house) you wish you could be and why?
Willow of Hufflepuff. She was incredibly resilient in the last duel, remained calm and saw to her teammate's health at the best she could even when her Gryffindor opponents were ruthless.
How do you prepare for a match?
I believe each wand has a sentimental unique and the bond between the wand holder plays a part in the quality of spellcasting. It may seem odd, but before a match, I talk to mine.

Duel to win.

I like feeling like I'm part of something important.
I like seeing myself getting noticeably stronger.
I like the rush of duelling in front of an audience.
What is the best part about competing?
Competing lets you show everyone what you're capable of. It proves to everyone that you're strong.
Who do you wish was watching you perform in every duel?
I mean, my friends already watch all my duels, so I don't really have to wish for that, and I wish my family could see me win a duel because I'm a lot stronger than they think I am.
What qualities make a teammate a good teammate?
A good teammate understands your thought process and can play off of what you're going to do. This goes both ways, if two people really get each other, they'll know how to best work together to maximize the potential of what they're doing.
How does being a duellist make you a better person?
Being a duellist makes me stronger and braver. It teaches me how to defend myself, take down my enemies, not run from a fight, and use adrenaline to my advantage.
What is one thing you do after a good duel?
After a victory, I like to go for a long walk outside, sometimes even with friends! It gives me time to think about the duel (what went well, what didn't) and the fresh air helps me to relax and calm back down after all the adrenaline.
Do you get butterflies before duelling? If so, what do you do to calm the butterflies before competing?
I did before my first match, but not so much anymore. Now, it's more just excitement and determination than nervousness.
If you could play another sport - muggle or wizarding - what would it be?
Quidditch has always been fun for me, so I'd probably choose that. I thought about joining that team, but I knew duelling would be better for me, so I chose this instead and I think I made the right choice!
How old were you when you first started duelling?
I was 12, the beginning of my second year.
Who inspires you?
My brother Sebastian inspires me. He's really powerful and has a super cool job and people respect him and I wanna have all of that too someday. It pushes me to train harder.
What one word describes you?
Resolute
What do you give up to participate on the Duelling team?
I give up time that I could be getting into trouble with my friends to be part of the duelling team, but I don't mind. Really, I still do stuff with them, so I guess I'm just sacrificing homework time, which isn't all that heartbreaking.
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
I think so. You have to have the attitude of a winner and never give up. If you walk into a match already feeling defeated, there's no way you're going to win. But if you're determined and you persevere even when a match isn't going well, you can still turn it around.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors duelling next season?
Don't let one mistake get you down! Each round is a new chance to show what you're made of.
Where you think there can be improvement on in the team/during matches?
More practice could be nice so that we can really get a feel for who we might pair well with. I kind of just duel with whoever they put me with, but I still don't really know why they pair me with the people they pair me with.
Who is your favourite member on the team and why?
Nicky (Elsa Veronica Bennett) has been a really good friend of mine for a while, so it's cool to both be on the duelling team together even though we haven't been paired up for a match yet. She understands me, so she's a good teammate to have.
What do you fear the most during a duel?
I fear being knocked unconscious. It makes me feel like I'm giving up even when I don't want to. Like my brain wants to keep going, but my body can't do it.

This was a great season! I look forward to the next one!

Name one duellist (can be from any house) you wish you could be and why?
I would be Pericles Dralt, because he's really good at duelling and moderating but he also doesn't seem to let anything get to him. Even if he's taken some hits or been taunted, he's cool as a cucumber.
How do you prepare for a match?
Typically I do some jumping jacks or push ups to pump myself up right before the match. I'll also do some extra training the night before (and sometimes the morning of) to make sure I'm ready to go.
Do you like to duel for fun, or duel to win?
Winning is fun.....so both?

...Duelling doesn't make you a better person. Moral standards have to be incredibly lax under one's willingness to incendio or flipendo a person until they are carried away on a stretcher to the hospital wing.

My duelling partner and I have been known to go out for butterbeers after a duel gone well.

If you don't walk in expecting to win a duel, how can you win? Lack of self-esteem or confidence can bar you from your potential.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors duelling next season?
Get to know your duelling partner! It's incredibly important to strategy to know how they duel and having the ability to guess what they might do during duels.
Do you like to duel for fun, or duel to win?
Why not both? I don't hear anybody saying you're not allowed to have fun on the road to victory.

My closed friends.

Decisiveness, trustworthy and dependable.

It teaches me the essence of working as a team and to show humility if I am ever defeated.

If victorious, I will savour it and improve my skills. If defeated, I will learn from my mistakes and become stronger.

No, I do not. In the contrary, the only 'butterflies' I get is the excitement to come out victorious.

I suppose I would not be too terrible on the Quidditch field.

No one. My dedication for glory inspires myself.

None. I have always aimed to be a duellist.
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
Attitude is definitely a winning factor. After all, you can destabilise your opponent with taunts and threats to make sure they are either discouraged, or to provoke their anger and cause their mistake.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors duelling next season?
Learn all of the duelling spells and practice them frequently. And you must have the strong willpower to pull through arduous matches.
Who is your favourite member on the team and why?
Aurelia. She is an efficient teammate. Her skills are phenomenal.
What do you fear the most during a duel?
Defeat. It is the first phase of humiliation.

Practice, of course. It is the best way to prepare for any duelling match.

I was twelve, in my second year.
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
I think you can have the skills that you need to win whether you have a good attitude or not. But a good attitude always makes dueling more fun. Plus, it's like some wise old guy said, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors duelling next season?
Never. Give. Up. It sucks at first, when you lose a duel. I lost three in my first year of dueling. But I didn't give up, and I learned from my mistakes. I might get my butt kicked next year, but I wouldn't still be on the team if I gave up. And every victory was worth every loss.

Honestly, you guys are amazing! Thank you for keeping us all organized, I am so grateful for you.

These are based purely off of my experiences. The Ravenclaws are very coordinated, and they seem to have a logical plan to go by as they duel. The Hufflepuffs are full of spirit, even though they didn't do very well this past dueling season. The Slytherins that I dueled weren't very friendly, but they were very skilled and they are very talented.

It doesn't, I'm the same as I always have been.

How do you prepare for a match?

LETTER FROM THE CAPTAINS

Another year, another cup, another season. We came in to this year riding the wave of last year's hard-fought victory. It is one thing to pull a team back together and rise from the ashes to reach for something great. It's quite another to uphold that legacy. Expectations were high all around. Even the Headliner raised us as this year's hopeful champions for a second year. Obviously, that was not to be the case. That said, we still performed admirably.
Once again, the core that continued from one season to the next consisted only of four players. This time: Griseldis, Akari, Haley, and myself. Over the course of this past year, we have seen 9 players leave the team, their positions filled by 9 others. We have lost players of exceptional talent, but have gained as well. Still, as in any team sport, mutual trust and confidence remain cornerstone to the efficiency and performance; and every member lost takes a toll on morale. One of the most impactful moments being the situation of our Captain resigning unexpectedly during our second game. It is no secret that D'Spacito and I disagreed on many points on and off the pitch. Still, he was a capable chaser, and well liked by many. His shoes were not ones I took any enjoyment having to step into.
Never-the-less, despite heavy and consistent losses, tenured and new members consistently dedicated their time and effort into improving and training. Our defeat by Ravenclaw in the second round of games marked a halt of momentum. We had won six games consecutively until that point. They performed exceptionally well, and grounded us. We might have stayed there. But we did not. The only place to go from the ground is up, and we did just that. It was a learning opportunity and a reminder that we might always have aspects upon which to improve. Every member carried with them into our final game with a resolve to perform better, and it showed. We could not have recovered or risen to claim (the very respectable) second place were it not for the efforts of the team as a whole.
Thus, I would like to thank everyone on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team for allowing me the opportunity to take the reins. It has been a challenging transition, but know that I will continue to strive to be worthy of the title of Captain.
Our path going into the new season will be very much the same as last. Try-outs are to be held in the early weeks of September (IC tryouts equate to OOC waitlist sign-ups) with practices to start right away. As this year has shown us, the other Houses have heightened their play in some rather significant ways. We have quite a bit of work and training ahead of us to get our newest members caught up and the team working cohesively before the next season begins anew. Personalized training regimens will continue, as will the focused technical drills. But fret not. It will not be entirely work and no play. I have a number of activities already in various phases of planning, the first of which will be slated to transpire towards the end of the summer camp this summer.
So, as I said as well last year, for those of you already on the team, rest up over the summer and come prepared. For those of you looking to join the team and prove yourself in the try-outs, I welcome your presence with great anticipation! We will see you on the pitch!

Who do you wish was watching you perform in every game?
Anyone who needs encouragement to pursue their passions. Any who find themselves discouraged at not having had the same opportunities as their peers. Your success is yours alone, and your triumphs are a reflection of the time and effort you have put in to pursuing them.
What qualities make a teammate a good teammate?
Someone who is dedicated to the sport and self-improvement, willing to listen and take criticism, communicates needs and intent in practice and in games... I could go on at length.
How does being an athlete make you a better person?
It teaches discipline, balance, sacrifice and health. To succeed as an athlete I have had to give up other activities that some might find more pleasurably rewarding. It requires discipline of mind and body and a consistency in training both independently and as a team. It also means being accountable not only to yourself but your teammates as well as learning to rely on and trust others to follow through with their roles. The reasons being an athlete are countless, really. I could hardly explain it all in this limited space.
What is one thing you do after a good game?
I collect perspectives from my team mates to obtain a better understanding of how they saw the match unfold, and rewatch the game on a pair of omniocculars if I can manage it—if any of my contacts happened to be recording it. I replay the game in my head, identify what we did well, and determine where we need to focus our practices to improve further.
Do you get butterflies before playing? If so, what do you do to calm the butterflies before competing?
Always. I do not think I will ever quite manage the nerves that come with knowing you will be a target of forces strong enough to knock me unconscious in a single blow should I fail to avoid them. I double and triple check to make sure my broom is in pristine condition, and then take to the air as soon as I am able. My mind tends to focus once I am in the air.
If you could play another sport - muggle or wizarding - what would it be?
I would—and do—compete in equestrian sports.
How old were you when you first started to play Quidditch?
It was when I was in my first year. I was eleven.
What one word describes you?
Scrutinizing.
What do you give up to play Quidditch?
Time. There are more things in which I would like to be involved than I have time to apply to them. Quidditch detracts from that. But I would not say that it is a sacrifice, or that there is any regret in passing on other interests. I have become dedicated to it.
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
It absolutely is. If you cannot visualize yourself winning, then you will not. Confidence is key to clarify of mind and follow-through of action. It is also a cornerstone to ensuring continued investment of every hour that goes into conditioning and practice that build up the individual and the team to be able to band together to execute a victory.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors playing next season?
Do not dawdle on practice. If you are wanting to play the sport, then attach yourself to some aspect about it that drives you. Keep that in your mind's eye as you hone your abilities to better fulfill your role. I would also emphasize communication. An involved and invested player will derive a greater joy from participation than one who is simply filling time without passion.
Who is your favourite member on the team and why?
Edelhardt. She is our most tenured player and has shown an unrivalled loyalty to the team along with a continued dedication to hone her skills. She is a model to all of us.
What do you fear the most during the game?
Letting down my team and having our losses be a consequence of my decisions or inability to secure a decisive victory.
Anything you wish to tell your captain or co-captain?
Congratulations on a match well fought, Zhang. You were new to the team when you were appointed as co-captain, but you have already demonstrated your drive to see the team succeed, and have contributed without hesitation in order to achieve that. I hope to see that same tenacity next year.
A short sentence to describe each of the other houses' game play.
Slytherin has been playing surprisingly cautiously despite their strong offensive, although have gained some considerable tactical advantages in the recent months. Ravenclaw has been a marvel this year, pulling themselves together for a well-deserved triumph. Any who suggest brawn is absent in the House of Eagles, have yet to meat their quidditch team. They have been viciously offensive this year with some well executed plays. Hufflepuff still seems to be struggling to find their footing after Towers' retirement from the team. With arguably the greatest offensive potential, they don't seem to be able to harness it effectively. I was expecting more from them this year.
Name one quidditch player (can be from any house) you wish you could be and why?
I am quite comfortable in my own position. There is not another player whom I would desire to be.
How do you prepare for a game?
I push my team to continue their usual drills while also addressing those holes in our strategy from the last time we fought the upcoming team. We practice advanced tactics and manoeuvres and I try to strategize novel approaches to tackling their greatest assets so as not to be predictable. On the day of the match, I eat a balanced and complex energy rich meal, then review the tactics commonly employed by the team we are to face.
Do you like to play for fun, or play to win?
I play to win. I fly for enjoyment.
What are your thoughts on blatching and other foul moves?
They are not my preferred approach. A fair game within the limits of the intended tactics would be my preference. However, given the allowance for foul moves with minimal consequence, I cannot deny their existence in strategizing. To do so would condemn my team to a loss of any competitive edge.

It keeps me grounded, harnesses my competitive energy into a healthy form, and allows me to develop a lot of different social skills whilst working with a team.

Celebrate with the team (morale is one of the most important things in a sport team).

Every now and then, but I just think about the team and how nervous they must be, and try to bottle the nerves for them.

Maybe broom racing, it seems fun and dangerous.

Of course! If one member of the team comes in with a negative attitude to the game/practice, then it will rub off on the rest of the team, and if the team is at each others' throats then we stand no chance of winning a team based sport.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors playing next season?
It'll be tough, and sometimes it'll seem like you won't be able to succeed, but you have to keep trying. You will get there, you just have to put in the time and hard work.

If we can work together and bond as a team, then we can win anything.

I am close with several members so refuse to answer the question for the sake of others.

Well the penalties for blatching are certainly not enjoyable, but sometimes when put in a tight spot you need to risk it. It can be an efficient way of turning the game back in your favour. As for other foul moves, I myself am not particularly fond of them, but I suppose to each their own.

The adrenaline rush and the feeling of flying on a broomstick is unbeatable.
How old were you when you first started to play Quidditch?
I grew up playing Quidditch with my friends and family. I must have been around three or four when I first touched a broom. Some of my fondest childhood memories are the impromptu Quidditch games with my cousins and siblings.
What are some advice you would give to new Gryffindors playing next season?
There are always improvements to be made and new skills to learn. It's also important to remember that being a part of a team means that everything you do during a game will affect everyone else, so think before you act.
How do you prepare for a game?
In the weeks leading up to a game, I'll get in some extra practice and make sure to eat healthily. On the day of the game, I usually will do some quick meditating before warming up to ensure that I'm focused and clear-headed.
Do you like to play for fun, or play to win?
There is no point in winning games if these accomplishments are seen as just another impressive-sounding fact to show off. I play for the rush and the enjoyment I get from Quidditch, but I wouldn't say that winning is not important to me - after all, it's a competitive sport.

LETTER FROM THE CAPTAINS

⌞We’d like to start by thanking the team for a fantastic inaugural season! Broom racing is a new sport to Britain and we’re still figuring out the best way to bring pride to the house of Godric, and the team that’s been assembled has been absolutely instrumental in doing this. We couldn’t ask for a better group of lions to be flying alongside and we can’t wait to really show the other houses what we’re made of next year.
This season has been an interesting first championship for broom racing, but we’re not done just yet. Our later start means that we’ll be taking to the skies during the summer in order to crown a champion, so please come out and watch us as we put an end to Hufflepuff’s winning streak. Provided that results go our way, we can still pull out a joint season victory with the badgers.
This has been a learning experience, neither of us have captained anything before, and we’ve been learning on the go. As a team, we’ve experienced both a victory against Slytherin and a loss against Ravenclaw. We’ve had strategies go absolutely to plan, and have faltered in other areas. We’ve dealt with the Whomping Willow, boggarts, and various shades of nerd. All of these experiences, whether they fell our way or not, have provided us with plenty to learn from and build upon as we look to the future. We’re very much looking forward to showing Gryffindor their new look lions in 2022-23.
What will that new look be? Who knows. With what appears to be a revamped season format, the sky’s the limit with how your humble broom racers can develop. The team may be filled with misfits, but we’re violent and hungry to win, so you can all but guarantee that whatever form our new strategies take they likely involve throwing branches at our opponents.
You’ll be proud of our pride.

You get to learn how your opponents work. Be it with each other, the environment, or even themselves. Broom racing tends to bring out some very interesting qualities in individuals. The sort you wouldn't see anywhere else.
Who do you wish was watching you perform in every game?
Anyone willing to watch is appreciated. But if we are talking specifics... my parents and sister, schrödinger of course. What I really wish, is for them to one day understand how important the sport is for me. But for now, the occasional support means a lot.
What is one thing you do after a good game?
I tend to DeSoto, and prep him for his next flight. Broom care is extremely important for safety and success when flying. A happy broom makes for a happy racer.
Do you get butterflies before playing? If so, what do you do to calm the butterflies before competing?
Butterflies? No, They're more like wasps. They're an exciting feeling, why would I want to calm them?
If you could play another sport - muggle or wizarding - what would it be?
I've hardly an intertest in the other sports here in the wizarding world. But I've heard that muggles have a sport similar to broom racing- but they use cars instead, and they follow a little loop around, and around. I think I could enjoy that.
How old were you when you first started Broom Racing?
Fourteen I believe.
What one word describes you?
Elusive.
What do you give up to race?
Time. Always time.
Do you think attitude is a factor in winning? Why or why not?
Of course. If you go into a race thinking you're going to lose, then you have already lost.
Where you think there can be improvement on in the team/during games?
There are a few spots for the Gryffindor team to work on, but I think the most important would be predictability. By that I mean our ability to better foresee an obstacle on the track. We're a very reactive group, so I believe we should try to be more proactive.
Who is your favourite member on the team and why?
Oh I can't pick just one, they're all splendid company.
What do you fear the most during the game?
The end of the race. I enjoy being in the sky, truly. But I suppose that is more of a disappointment than a fear. I hate the idea of being in an accident that would prevent me from flying again.
Anything you wish to tell your captain or co-captain?
For Nicholas: For the love of merlin, lose the tartan already.
For Della: You're doing great dear, keep up the good work.
A short sentence to describe each of the other houses' game play."Slytherin: Determined individuals, who are not afraid to go out of their comfort zone to better their chances at winning. They're a pleasure to fly with.
Hufflepuff: I've yet to race with them, but from what I've seen they're very loyal to each other. They understand that broom racing is very much a team sport.
Ravenclaw: What they lack in speed, they make up for in physical strength. Though the team currently consists of younger years, they are not to be underestimated. Especially with their habit of attempting to... circumvent racing rules.
Name one racer (can be from any house) you wish you could be and why?
Hugh Lowe, I suppose. His physical strength is something to strive for. It is unfortunately, where I tend to fall short.
Do you like to play for fun, or play to win?
Neither. I play for the adrenaline rush- the temporary feeling of true freedom. Broom racing is the closest I'll come to having wings of my own. But I guess to answer the question, I play for fun. It is the only way to engage in something you enjoy. If you play to win... do you even enjoy what you do?
What are your thoughts on casting spells at other racers?
We all know what we are signing up for when we get into broom racing. Spells add an extra element of excitement. I think they're fair, so long as they're not intentionally being used out of spite to harm racers.
