─────Outstanding, truly outstanding!
Monica ventured into the library for her first time, seeking a place to work on her history of magic assignments. She lingered in the entrance way, astounded by the vastness of the room. Never before had she seen so many books all in one place.
It was a marvel seeing the books flying from shelves into students hands, or vice versa. Not a moment spent in Hogwarts failed to amazing and astonish Monica to her very core.
After a moment, she realized that she had just been standing in the doorway, far longer than what would be normal to linger in a doorway. Looking around to make sure she wasn't being watched, she continued through the room, in search of a place to study.
Making her way through to the far end of the room, she finally found the sitting area, not far off from the fireplace. The crackling of the wood as it burned soothed the anxiety that the day had brought. Something relaxing about siting next to a roaring fire made the idea of studying less of a chore.
Choosing a spot close to the fire, Monica was amazed that the temperature never changed. She leaned her hand in closer, and still not getting hotter. Oh the wonders of magic, never fail to impress.
Settling down, and opening up her text book, Monica began her deep dive into her studies. Unfortunately she was falling behind in class, all of this was complex, and foreign to her. That wasn't something she was used to. Back at her old school, she head of her class, not because of extra studying, or anything like that. The material just made sense to her. She never really had to try in order to succeed in school. But here? She couldn't let it be known how much she was struggling. What if she were to fail? Would they expel her, sending her back to her family? What would her father say? How excited he was for her to venture to Hogwarts, to bring magic back to the family, after so many years of it being dormant.
No!
She couldn't fail! She couldn't let her father down! She was going to show this school that she was capable, that it didn't matter she was muggle-born, she could keep up with the rest of the class.
Taking in a breath, and slowly releasing it, she focused in on the first page.
Some time went by, and Monica found herself gazing into the fire... Well this was it, she was going to fail, be kicked out, maybe have her memory wiped! None of this was clicking. How was she going to remember and recite any of this back to a professor...
She was slipping, losing hope.
"Perhaps it's best to just throw in the towel now, before it's taken away from you."

Mel was just having the time of her life. So far her classes were quite easy, as her parents had homeschooled her for most of her life with some pretty advanced books. However, while it was easy to know these sorts of things, it wasn't easy understanding them. Perhaps her most difficult class of thus far was transfiguration. She just couldn't quite grasp the concept as to how it worked, and the formulas were very confusing with all of the symbols and such. Mel might as well had been taking another math class (though math was perhaps even worse than Transfiguration).
Right now, Mel was heading into the library. She hadn't quite ventured into there before, so she was excited to see how beautiful it was; a beauty it was for sure. Books filled the many, many shelves that filled the library, flying up and down from the bookshelves into and from students' hands, and, like any library, it was quiet. Mel was getting ready to sit down at a table when she noticed a Slytherin girl sitting alone. She had a bit of tangled black hair and blue eyes, and seemed to be rather stress. Mel went over to the lass and gently tapped on the table to get her attention. "Excuse me," she said quietly, "are you alright?"

Monica's thoughts were spiraling, flipping from page to page, searching for understanding, digging for any links or connections, but alas it seemed as though the textbook was mocking her.
"This is ridiculous, who would be able to memorize any of this?"
Monica slammed the book closed, casting her eyes to the fire, try to let all her issues burn away. When that didn't quit work to her liking she retreated to her arms, burring herself in them on top of the table, hiding from the outside world. It was safe here, like the fear of failure couldn't bother her anymore. She could feel the emotion welling up inside of her. Throat grew tight, her eyes became heavy as she tried desperately to keep everything from bursting out.
*Tap Tap*
"What on earth?"
Monica sprang up, and finding the source of the tapping, it was a Hufflepuff girl, standing just opposite Monica at the table.
Shifting in her chair, Monica sat up straighter, being so close on the verge of tears, she held it all back, there was no way she was going to be seen crying over her homework.
"Yes" She could feel her voice croak, she took a breath, "Sorry, I am just having a little bit of trouble with this transfiguration class." Her body was shaking with all the build up, seeking for a release from it all, perhaps just a little bit, might calm her down...
A tear rolled down her face, quickly intercepting it, another quickly followed, then another.
Yup the damn had broken... Monica was now sitting in the chair crying.
"This is ridiculous, I shouldn't be crying over this... It's just homework..." Monica's breath started quickening, her body was now fully releasing all the frustration she had been building up.
Whoever this girl was, she was getting a show.

Don't worry about it, it took me a while to get a look that I like with my letters. Also it's no worries at all with long or short replies. If you ever want to talk about what could happen in between our replies on this thread we for sure can, via owl or discord. But I am happy to discover this roleplaying with you

Mel began to panic at the sight of the poor girl crying. She could certainly understand the frustration of not understanding a class. She herself has cried quite a few times from such difficult homework, especially when it came to potions. While she always tried her best to enjoy potions, she struggle immensely with memorizing the ingredients for potions and the instructions for what to do to create her potions. It frustrated her intensely, so she could certainly understand where this student was coming from. She glanced to her homework to notice that she was working on transfiguration homework. Mel loved transfiguration! Maybe she could help this student?
"I totally understand how you feel," Mel said quietly. "I struggle with potions myself, but luckily for you I love transfiguration class!" She smiled softly at the girl. "Maybe I could help you?" Before the girl could reply, Mel took a seat next to her. "Just tell me what you need help with..."
Mel was a bit excited to be talking with this girl, despite the circumstances of the girl crying in front of her. She saw this as a great opportunity to make a brand new friend, if the girl was willing to let her.

Breath in....Breath out... Monica fought to bring herself back to a place of peace. It felt good to let out her emotion, it was exactly what she needed to do. Even more so to have this Hufflepuff be so willing to hear her out, understand her frustration, and give her a much needed helping hand. It wasn't something Monica was very used to, most times when emotions came out, they were met with a resistance, backing away, or encouragement to stuff them down, but not now. Now her emotions were met with grace, acceptance. It felt good to be met in such a way.
The girl leaned over Monica's books, and beamed at the subject."...but luckily for you I love transfiguration class! Maybe I could help you?" Without skipping a beat, the girl leaped right into the seat next to Monica, without the need for an invitation. "Just tell me what you need help with..."
Monica smiled, wiping away the tear residue from her face. In a mer moment, Monica felt an immediate connection with this girl, as if they'd known each other for years. Perhaps she should introduce herself? It would be nice to at least know the name of the girl that came to save her from her spiral of failure.
"Thank you, I'm Monica by the way, it's really nice to meet you."
Monica gazed back at her textbook, the pages that haunted her. She read through the dense paragraph, even still trying to understand what she even needed help with.
"I just can't understand Conjuration. I have tried it in class, and even picked something super simple that I can easily visualize, but not I do works. And this book isn't helping me at all."
She shoved the book away, allowing her back to fall into the support of her chair. Her head leaning back, eyes glued to the ceiling. She let out a sigh.
"What kind of a witch can't even preform a simple conjuration spell?"

Mel smiled at Monica and nodded. "My name is Melanie, but I go by Mel!" she introduced herself as well. "Nice to meet you, too!" She listened to Monica as she explained how she was struggling with Conjuration. Mel thought a moment. She hadn't learned any conjuration spells yet! However, she thought that perhaps she could try her best to help her newfound friend in any way that she could. She watched her friend push away the textbook and lean back in her chair. Mel took the textbook and decided to have a look inside it to see what the textbook had to say.
However, Mel had to know what exactly was bothering Monica to be able to help her. "So, what exactly do you think is stopping you from casting a conjuration spell?" she asked, looking to Monica. "Personally, whenever I struggled with casting a spell, I was lacking in my willpower and focus to cast the spell." She smiled softly. "Maybe if you work on your willpower and focus, you will be able to cast your spell a lot easier!"
Mel hoped that her advice was helpful in someway. It was helpful for her, so why not for her new friend?

Will power? It hadn't been a concept that Monica ever heard of, let alone considered for herself. But what does that even mean? The closest thing she could associate with it was the drive she got in game, dribbling the basketball up the court, dodging her opponents and taking it all the way to the net. The only will power was the will to score, and her ability to do so. So how would one tap into that for magic?
Monica took a long moment studying her wand, bounce back between it, and the textbook. After, what was probably an uncomfortable amount of time sitting and staring at her wand, she finally broke out of her self inflicted thought trance.
"What do you mean by, will power? I mean, I am wanting and very much 'willing' to the best of my ability to conjure a simple key, but I can't even do that!"
Monica lifted her wand again, attempting to create a key on the table, but nothing happened. Not even a spark from her wand, though that was probably a good thing. Worst case is she messes up so much that the spell back fires on her totally.
"Are you able to cast the spell? Maybe if I see you do it, it might help me figure it out?" Often times that was the best way Monica picked up anything, however, once the question was asked, it dawned on her, would watching some one casting a spell help with her finding the will power within herself?
