The Saturday, which many students used to hang out with their friends, train for their favourite sport or just relax, of the two first years had been partially claimed by Samantha. Detention isn't supposed to be fun, you are supposed to learn from it, so that's why the prefect had decided to give the two rulebreakers detention at the most annoying moment she could think of. By forcing them to show up in an empty classroom for their detention during lunch, she took away the opportunity for both of them to socialize during the meal. Extremely satisfied with her choice of time, she had sent both of the students an owl with a letter in which she informed both students where the detention would be taking place and to be there at 12.00 sharp.

It seemed like Samantha was following in the footsteps of her mother, a fairly strict high school English teacher, who didn't shy away from giving detention to the student that deserve it. Wanting the detention to be something Quinn and Colin could use to reflect on their actions, Samantha had thought long and hard about what she wanted the two to do during the time they were locked up in the classroom with her. Her first idea was to have both of them write "I may not swim in the lake without staff supervision" 200 times neatly but she ended up having a way better idea. The brunette wanted to teach the two that it wasn't okay to break any of the school rules which meant the two first needed to know all the school rules by heart.

To make sure the little rule-breakers knew the rules, she would have them both make a large poster to hang above their bed in their dorm room with every rule neatly written out. In the first part of the detention, they would get time to make the poster with the tools Samantha had provided and in the second part, they would have to give a presentation to her explaining why they should never again break the rules. Only when the young prefect would be satisfied with their poster and explanations, they would be allowed to leave the classroom after having promised her to hang the poster in their dorm room. As both of the first years were in Slytherin, she wouldn't be able to check if they had put up the poster but maybe she could ask one of the other prefects to do so.

On the desk furthest away from the window, Samantha had placed two large pieces of parchment, a couple of quills and a ton of markers. She had specifically chosen the two-person table farthest away from the window so neither Quinn of Colin could be distracted by the view of the great lake, the grassy hills or the lovely weather. Before the two would arrive the prefect had written out all the school rules on the massive chalkboard in the front of the class and she was now sitting at the professor's desk, waiting for the two students to arrive.

The brunette was glad she had spotted the three students who had decided to take a swim, or they might have never been punished for their bad behaviour. The night after she had caught the swimming students, she had started to doubt a little if she should have given Kim detention as well since he had broken the rules. Luckily she had been able to put the haunting thought to rest, as she told herself she had done the right thing by letting him go. If she would have given him detention it may have looked like she had rather have Quinn drown than Kim breaking the rules to save her.

When Quinn and Colin would arrive, Samantha would greet them with a serious face. "Welcome to your detention. I hope you will use this time to think about your actions," she told the two as she gestured to the desk with the supplies for the poster on it. "Both of you will be making a poster for your dorm with all the school rules written out neatly. Once you are finished you will give a presentation on why breaking the rules is bad with at least 3 examples of a rule and what bad thing could happen if you break it." she explained to the two younger students. "Any questions? If not, start working."

After she would have answered any questions the two might have, Samantha walked back to the desk she had claimed as hers for the duration of the detention and sat down. "Also, no talking until you finished your poster."

Quinn wouldn't go to the lunch room like most of her classmates, She would be going to one of the classrooms. She absolutely hated the timing of the event she was 'required' to attend. Would she show this to the prefect, so gave her this punishment? Never. She was not going to gave any satisfaction.

She walked the halls, her shoes where making a soft tapping noise on the floor. Quinn looked behind her, and all around to make sure no one was going to sneak up on her. Once she was satisfied she made her hair, Green. The same green as when she swam in the lake. As to not show that she was a Metamorphmagus.

The lake. The lake was the reason she and her friend where here. She made her way to Detention, In a attempt not to scare anyone who was in the class room she knocked on the door. Quinn pushed open the door to find the room mostly empty, There where some items on the desk away from the windows. A Ravenclaw at the front of the room.

Quinn gave her a small, small smile and nodded to her, not saying how hungry she was. Not saying anything really. When Colin had arrived Quinn gave him an actual smile, she did think that him saying it was his idea was stupid. She would not say this here of course.

She listened to what they were ment to do, writing all of the rules to hang up in there dorm? She could do that, surprisingly she would hang it up. And use it it mark what rules she has broken, it was a good way for her to have the rules on a list.

She was making her way to the table with a sigh, She abruptly turned around when she heard they were not allowed to talk. She made a comment, without thinking "Yes, of course. No talking. If I didn't talk in the lake I would have died." It was probably going to make her mad, which is why Quinn made her was to the table quickly.

Colin loved Saturdays!! And this was the first weekend he had an owl of his own --- Uhuu, his beatiful Indian Eagle Owl! He had planned to invite his friends out onto the grounds so they could meet him, but, unfortunately, those plans would have to be put on hold due to a most inconveniently scheduled detention that one of the Ravenclaw Prefects had uncourteously planned for a beautiful Saturday afternoon rather than some rainy weekday evening. Drat. Colin would have to take note of the Prefect's name and remember everything about her he possibly could. Prefects were all well and good when there was a truly disastrous situation occurring! But for the most part, Prefects were nuisances to be tolerated and generally avoided unless there was simply no choice but to interact with them.

Colin sighed. At least he'd have much of the day to visit with Uhuu and maybe head down to the Lake before lunch --- but NOOO! --- Prefect Salwis had sentenced him and Quinn to a lunchtime detention! Colin sighed again. Never one to sleep in late, Colin was up with the Sun, dressed and went out to find some treats for his owl while skulking around the Greenhouses. He remembered his first meeting with Sophia's owl, Amelia, in this same area and he laughed. "Soon, that little chicken will meet a real big owl!"

After visiting the owlery, Colin went down to the Great Hall for breakfast. He made sure to pack a couple of extra special snacks for himself, since he was pretty certain that a lunch hour detention would not involve a catered lunch. He smiled. He knew Quinn would likely forget to bring something to nibble while doing whatever horrendous task it was Salwis had cooked up for them. He patted his pockets, making sure that his treats for Quinn were secure, and then went back outside for the morning. He smiled again. He figured Salwis probably wouldn't be eating either, so he brought along two extra super special treats for the Prefect!

"Oh crap!!" Colin chanced to look up into the sky and saw how high the Sun was. He rummaged through his satchel, found his pocket watch and looked at it. "Six fifteen!!?? What!? Grrr!! --- Oh! Heheh! It's upside down. That's a relief --- OH CRUD! Eleven forty-five! Colin lad, we'd best skedaddle or we'll be late for a very important date!"

With that he scooped his things up into his satchel, slung it over his shoulder, pushed his wet hair behind him, and tried to get his shirt buttoned properly on the run! His poor shoes were dangling behind! "Owooooooo!" he cried as he dashed barefoot through the Courtyard and he waved and called out to several friends on his way up to his doom in the Classroom!

CLOP - slap! CLOP - slap! CLOP - slap! Colin managed to get one shoe on by the time he reached the appointed corridor. He could see light streaming from the doorway! CLOP-CLOP-CLOP-CLOP! he hopped along, shoving his other shoe on at last. Then he took off at a run along the corridor! "Owooooo!" he cried, catching the door frame with his right hand and sling-shotting himself into the classroom!

"Brilliant!!" he cried. "Hey Quinn!!" he shouted as he skidded to a halt dead center in the classroom. His watch was in his hand again, and he cried out: "Aye! That's the dog's bloody testicles and a packet of crisps! Eleven fifty-nine and three quarters!" He looked up and stared at Samantha, seated at the teacher's desk, his brilliant green eyes boring into hers.

Just a couple seconds before his watch dinged for noon, Colin approached the teacher's desk, putting his things onto the table full of --- ART SUPPLIES!!!??? --- stamped one foot smartly on the hard wood floor and said only: "Madam Prefect!"

TING! went his watch, and Colin bowed low before Samantha Salwis, his still wet hair brushing the floor, and he made a grand flourish with his arm. Through the strands and tangles of his hair, however, Colin's eyes were on Quinn, and he hoped she caught his sly grin! He stood again, flipping his hair back over his shoulders, smiling amiably at Prefect Salwis. "A pleasure!"

ART SUPPLIES!!!??? --- Colin was in heaven!! He couldn't believe it! He loved drawing and painting, and didn't he have his sketch book with him in his satchel! --- Sure, this stint in Azkaban wouldn't be so bad after all! Colin stood and listened most attentively while Samantha welcomed them to detention. Welcome? Yeah, right! he thought. He stared straight into the Prefect's eyes. She wanted them to think about their actions. Think about my actions! I've already started turning that adventure into a story! Of course I'm thinking about my actions! he thought. Colin never blinked his eyes as he stared into Samantha's eyes. She wanted them to draw a poster with every rule neatly written out. Oh, Sam! If this weren't detention I'd give you a hug! I know just what I'm going to draw! Colin continued to stare into Samantha's eyes, straight on, no blinking, no movement of any kind. And then the Prefect wanted them to give a presentation about three bad things that can happen if you break one of the rules! Oo, bloody brilliant! This is going to be --- almost as much fun as getting into trouble in the first place! Colin lad, I think we have found a new favourite Prefect! he thought. His eyes and expression belied no emotions whatsoever, and Colin continued to bore through Samantha's eyes with his stare until she asked if they had any questions.

Colin only nodded. "None, my Prefect! Your commands shall be carried out --- to the letter!"

And with that, Colin turned away from Samantha and looked at Quinn. He shook his now damp hair like a dog and gave Quinn a full on grin, showing her all his fangs! He was just about to cry out that they were sure to have so much fun! --- but Samantha interrupted them, saying: "Also, no talking until you finished your poster."

Colin's smile broadened and his eyes glinted mischievously.

The corridors of the castle were empty, only unhurried steps were breaking the silence. A mouthwatering scent lay in the air, trailing said steps, although there was barely anyone around to appreciate it.

Most of the school's population was currently at lunch, but there were at least four exceptions: Samantha, one of the newer additions to Ravenclaw's prefect team, the two scoundrels she had decided to give detention to, and Dealla Prince, prefect and duelling captain extraordinaire, who was currently walking the Hogwarts hallways, carrying two plates stacked high with pancakes, topped with cream and strawberries. Both had a fork stabbed into them vertically, prongs sunk deep into the fluffy pancakes.

After all, just because her sweet-toothed younger friend was ridiculously serious about her duties and had decided to sacrifice her time to supervise this detention didn't mean she had to go hungry while doing it, so Dee was coming to the rescue.

She'd aimed to reach the classroom a bit after the starting time Samantha had told her, so the detention should already be going behind the door. She could hear some voices, which was a good sign. After all, she wanted to give Sam the chance to enjoy her first detention before barging in... but she supposed this should have been enough time? Hard to tell. Pausing for a moment longer, she waited for a lull in the conversation, then decided to make her entrance. After using her elbow to press down the handle, she proceeded to kick open the door, then marched in as if she owned the place.

"Helloooo, I'm bringing lunch!" she announced brightly, her eyes scanning the scene. Sam had set the two first years up with large sheets of paper and markers, although neither had taken their seat yet. The whole thing reminded her of Muggle school, having to make a poster for some sort of school project... which was possibly exactly what was going on. It did seem like Sam, honestly. "Not for you two, of course," she added, winking at the naughty children, and setting down a plate for Samantha. "You're here to suffer. I hope you hate crafts as much as I do." Judging from the expression on the boy's face, probably not. How disappointing. "Cool green hair, though."

Humming to herself, Dee hooked a foot around the leg of a chair to drag it closer to a window, eliciting a horrible scraping sound, then let herself drop into it, kicking her feet up onto the table. She wasn't here to take over, after all, just to observe. And perhaps cackle evilly at some point. She did feel a bit like a Disney villain, honestly. All she was lacking was a kickass song (and the ability to actually carry a tune). "Oh!" she exclaimed, remembering suddenly, and twisted slightly towards her friend, already fishing for her wand. "Wasn't sure if you liked maple syrup so I didn't bring any, but I can summon you some if you want?"

The first to enter the almost empty classroom was Quinn whose bright green hair made her easily recognizable. Maybe the first year didn't like Samantha or maybe she just wasn't in a mood to talk, as all the prefect got was an extremely small smile and a nod. "Looking forward to your detention?" the brunette couldn't suppress the comment she made with a little smile.

A loud cry in the hallway was followed by Colin swinging himself into the classroom and loudly greeting Quinn. Already annoyed by the boy's shouting, Samantha took a good look at him and soon noticed his hair was wet. His eyes stared into hers and she looked back at him challenging, determined to show him who was in charge. After Colin had dramatically bowed to her, she sighed deeply like a disappointed mother. "Colin, why is your hair wet?" Had he taken a swim in the great lake again? She certainly hoped he hadn't.

Samantha may not be the best at noticing things but she certainly had noticed that had barely blinked since he had joined her in the classroom and it honestly made her a tad uncomfortable, not that she would ever admit that to him. "Is there something wrong with your eyes?" she asked the first year with a raised eyebrow. "You look weird," she told him honestly.

Only after the prefect said no talking, did Quinn start to talk. Offended, Samantha looked at the girl who now hurried to her table. "We aren't in the lake right now, are we?" she scoffed. "Besides, if you would have just followed the rules," the brunette gestured to the chalkboard on which she had written out the school rules, "you wouldn't have almost drowned anyway." Quinn could say whatever she wanted, Samantha will always have an answer prepared. "So no talking," she repeated her words.

As the two first years got to work, she watched them like a hawk watching its prey, not wanting to give them the freedom to talk and turn this detention into some fun socializing event. Once the conversation had stopped it didn't take long for the door to be kicked open by the one and only Dee, who was carrying two plates filled with a stack of pancakes. When the second year spotted the cream and strawberry-covered pancakes, a huge smile appeared on her face. "You got me pancakes?" she asked the other prefect in awe. "You're the best!"

Samantha, now completely distracted by the amazing-looking food Dee had brought with her, waited until her duelling captain was done teasing the poor first years and sat down, before digging into her incredibly tasting pancakes. Now realizing how hungry she was, the brunette was extremely glad Dee had shown up with food and joined her during the boring detention, even if it would be for just a few minutes. Her mouth already stuffed with food, she just nodded as Dee offered her maple syrup in hopes the other girl would understand it as a 'yes please'.

"Those two little rule breakers over there are currently working on a poster and will give a little presentation once they are finished,' she explained to her fellow eagle. "Would you like to watch the presentation as well?" Samantha would be glad with the company so she didn't have to wait all alone until the two first years would be giving their presentation. Maybe she and Dee could play tic tac toe to pass the time, or just talk.

Samantha turned her attention to Colin and Quinn. "You two! Eyes on your work," she told them just in case their attention would have shifted towards her and Dee, or the lovely pancakes.

Colin had burst through the door, and said hey Quinn. He seemed very excited, he bowed to Samantha. Did he grin? Quinn was almost sure that he did. When she had finished explaining Colin had shook his head dry! 'Don't tell me.. Did he swim in the lake? Without me!'. He gave her a large grin, she smiled back showing her teeth.

She called Colins eyes weird, she did not like that. This girl was Judging people she barely knew. In response to Quinn's comment, Samantha made her own comments. Quinn smiled at her, trying not to show any slytherin stereotypes. Like being rude to prefects.

Just before Quinn was about to sit, a person walked in, Quinn thought that it might have been Kim. Even if she had said no detention for him. But no. No Grifindors, it was another Ravenclaw. Another perfect. She had brought lunch for Samantha, she said that it wasn't for Quinn or Colin. She also told them they where there to suffer, Quinn looked at Colin. She was really starting to dislike these girls. Even if she complimented Quinn's hair. Which wasn't even her natural color.

Quinn ignored this comment and went to work on this rule bored. In the middle of it she wrote 'Important rules'. As they where talking Quinn wrote some rules, And Samantha told them to work. 'Is she blind? If she can't see me working...' Quinn grabbed a strand of her hair and turned it Blue like the Ravenclaws house. She only did it out of boredom.

The Prefect had just asked if Colin and Quinn had any questions when someone else barged into the classroom. Colin turned towards the sound, his eyebrows raised with curiosity. An older girl entered with plates full of food. Perhaps a friend of Sam's? She sounded excited to be here, more excited than either of the other girls anyway! She strode into the place with a demeanour of self assured calm, for all her barging around like a shaggy old guard dog.

The plates she bore had something she called pan cakes. They looked floppy and disgusting, but Sam seemed to be happy with them. That got him wondering and Colin cocked his head slightly and a sly grin briefly flitted across his face. Clearly, there was a serious, nay fundamental flaw their dear Prefect's plan! Colin wondered: Kind of odd that Sam would sentence us to a lunch time detention and yet forget to bring her own lunch! Hmm. If I were her, I'd've laid out a nice spread and enjoyed my lunch! That gives me an idea...!

The older girl teased him and Quinn that the food wasn't for them. Colin had planned for that by bringing some snacks. He was always hungry. Never quite satisfied, and had learned to keep some tasty tidbits in his satchel or pockets --- for those times when it was inconvenient to go hunting! She said that she hoped they hated art. Heheh! That was rapidly becoming part of Colin's plan! Colin loved drawing and as soon as he'd seen the art supplies, he knew this detention would be positively enjoyable.

Colin sighed sadly. Sam had planned out such a Ravenclaw detention --- intellectual and creative stimulation, lack of practical considerations. It saddened Colin when he realised exactly how much Slytherin had affected him over the last year. He would have given the miscreants cheap, nearly colourless pencils, thin and cheap easily torn paper, dull and loose scissors. He would have held their detention at breakfast. In the Great Hall. Make them suffer. In public.

The sudden thought made Colin queasy. Could he really do that to someone? Torture a fellow student the way these two girls were doing? He knew well that Hogwarts had a long history of far more terrible punishments; but the sudden knowledge that he would so easily outdo an actual Prefect scared him. Those would be the thoughts that would preoccupy Colin for the afternoon far more than enjoying a swim in the lake!

Image posted by the member

Not all of Colin's thoughts were quite so dark. He did manage to get a rise out of Salwis with his wet hair! He smiled when she asked him why it wet --- surely her unasked question was 'were just swimming in the lake again?' It's not like he would ever tell her!

He narrowed his eyes, however, when Sam said he looked weird. He wasn't quite trying for weird, but he'd take it! Anything to make his would-be dementor a little less than comfortable. Once she said that, he only stared the more intently.

He really wanted to roll his eyes when Sam went on about Quinn not almost drowning if she'd only follow the rules. That was beside the point! Colin knew well from his own past that merely following rules was no guarantee of safety. Was Sam a muggleborn or something to be so naive? The only way to survive in this world as a wizard was to constantly test oneself. If anything, Colin hoped that Quinn would learn to swim, if she didn't know how! Or at the very least, to invite him along when she wanted to take a dip!

Colin smiled to himself as he sat next to Quinn preparing to create a poster worthy of such an epic detention! He took up a pencil and began to sketch out the basic outlines. Since Salwis had given him and Quinn detention for swimming in the lake, he decided to make a poster with the lake as its setting. He blocked out the tree trunks and their limbs. He would draw four trees on either side with their mighty limbs interwoven high above. If one tree seemed too wide and another too narrow, Colin hit those with his rubber and made sure each tree was just the right size.

Satisfied with the tree placement, he sketched the farther shore line of the loch, the hills and mountains further on and the quick running burn that ran down from the high country. Colin smiled --- one day I'll swim all the way across the loch and see where that burn leads! Colin decided that no image of the loch would be quite right without a brilliant sunset flowing over the scene!

Colin wondered how many hours had passed since this whole procedure started. Probably not as long as he would have liked! He tilted his head back and bopped it against the wooden back of the chair a few times, lost in thought. His hand strayed to his pocket and he slipped something out. He drew a sudden breath! Oo! Brilliant Colin! That'll be the perfect addition to a poster on swimming in the lake!! An extremely sensitive ear might have detected a slight crunching sound.

Colin got up onto his knees on the chair and leaned over the table examining the arrayed markers that were laid out on the table. He tapped his left finger thoughtfully on his lips and at last made his selections.

He took up the medium width quill, dipped it into the bottle of black India ink and began to draw at last! At first Colin drew no lines. Rather, he very carefully dabbed the paper with tiny dots of ink. Rows and scatters of medium dots began to blossom across the paper. The outlines of roots and tree trunks slowly took shape. Then limbs and shore lines. And then hills and mountains. Colin had to dip the quill into the plutonian depths after after five or six dots.

The work was slow. Very slow. Glacial in its alacrity. Tectonical in its velocity. Colin felt that surely many hours, if not days, would be required to carefully ink each dot without blobbing! That would be the worst, blobbing. India ink knew no rubber save a good scourgify, and Colin hadn't practiced that spell much. So he took his time and took care.

At long last, he had all the medium sized dots dabbed onto the paper. Now it was time for the largest nib and with the same care he inked that and began to pointillate all over again. Long rows of dots, clusters of dots, swirls of dots, individual dots, widely spaced dots, closely crowded dots. Hundred and thousands of dots and scores and hundreds of quill dips into the glass ink well at last began to yield an image! Colin smiled contentedly as he drew his picture. This was turning out to look quite nice after all!

And at the last, after what seemed --- and indeed must have been --- a rather long time, Colin set down the largest of the quills. Picking up the finest of the quills, he worked on the tiny figures that would feature in the image. He drew the bold shape of the solar orb. He drew an homage to his dear patron, none other than Samantha Salwis herself!, without whose tireless efforts Colin's artistic manifesto could not have come into being! He most carefully, clearly, and legibly --- thought not necessarily very large! --- wrote out each of the twenty six rules that Sam had copied onto the blackboard at the front of the classroom. Lastly, he signed his work with a wee self portrait!

Colin carefully laid down the quill on the wooden table and leaned back into the heavy wood of the chair. He stretched happily and shook his head, his now quite dry hair bouncing about this way and that. He held up his poster so that Sam could see.

Premission to slightly godmod Dee given by her writer <3
When nothing but an amused smile was given as the answer to her question, Samantha frowned slightly, her expression showing light frustration and irritation at the lack of respect. Unsure where the boy, a first-year rule breaker, had found the audacity to ignore her, a prefect, she started talking again. "Did you forget how to speak or something?" she scoffed. "I asked you a question." Determined to have Colin obey her, she straightened her back, slightly lifted her chin, and crossed her arms, all to look a little more intimidating to the younger student.

The other comments Samantha had made towards the two first years went unanswered as well, this time leaving her to conclude that the others simply had no idea how to respond to the clever remarks she made. Which did make a lot of sense to the brunette, after all, her comebacks always are on a whole different level, or at least that was what she liked to believe.

As Colin and Quinn finally got to work, the prefects were able to enjoy their pancakes in peace and Samantha combined her lunch with watching the two students closely. In between her staring at the first years, the brunette sometimes glanced at Dee, curious how she was doing. Once her pancakes were finished, meaning she ran out of the main thing she had done since detention started, the second year realized just how boring giving detention was. Having nothing to eat anymore, Samantha let out a sad sigh, her shoulders leaning slightly forward and eyes filled with longing, she looked at her empty board. From the corner of her eye, Dee's moving fork loaded with pancakes caught her attention, causing her head to turn around towards the older girl abruptly. Samantha's blue eyes moved rapidly between Dee and her plate, which still had some pancakes on it, but she kept her mouth close. It was clear she was silently begging for the pancakes, eyes glued to the food or looking pleading towards Dee.

The rest of the detention was filled with waiting on one of the two students to finish their poster first so they could give a presentation and leave the classroom. Samantha noticed Colin making a lot of small dots on his paper and wondered what in the world he was doing. The assignment had to be to write out the rules, not draw dots, and give a presentation afterwards. Though dissatisfied, the prefect didn't say anything about it, knowing it would be his problem if he didn't do what she had told him to do. If he showed up with a poster without any rules, he would just have to remake it until she was satisfied, which could easily take up another lunch break for him.

Her attention shifted towards Quinn, hoping that the girl wasn't drawing random dots on her paper as her fellow rule-breaker did. The first year seemed to be working pretty good, hopefully learning from the rules she was writing down as well, otherwise, her hard work would have been for nothing. The idea of the two posters hanging in the students' dorms for everybody to see and be reminded of the rules they should never break, made Samantha smile. Now it was just waiting until the two gave their presentation and they would be free to go.

Colin looked like he was about to explode! The way poor Salwis kept looking at the older Prefect's pan cakes, disgusting as they appeared to be to Colin, with her puppy-dog eyes like she was begging for more! Oh, it was all Colin could do to keep himself from rolling around on the floor laughing at the whole situation! Oh, the poor bird! Such planning for torture, and by the looks of it, the only person in this entire room who was feeling at all bad about the situation was the Prefect herself!

Colin smirked as he looked at his awesome poster and thought back on the afternoon's experience. "Did you forget how to speak or something?" she had said. Colin's smirk turned into a silent chuckle. Oh lass! Even the dumbest of Ravenclaws should see the answer to that! You told us not to talk until we're done with our posters! DUH!!

He wondered what could possibly have been going through her head. He sighed shaking his own head slightly. Must be some bird thing. When he thought about the whole experience, he did have to appreciate that they were caught by a Ravenclaw Prefect and not a Puff or a Gryff. Urk! Colin always knew he was a Ravenclaw inside, and that that dratted Hat put him in the wrong House. If it weren't for the senseless injunction against talking, and if Salwis had just brought lunch for them all, this would have been a perfectly agreeable little activity!

As it stood, there seemed to be no real point in it that Colin could see. Sure, he could use the poster to keep a tally of all the rules he'd already broken, and also to keep track of the ones that must never be broken. So that was useful. He grinned --- such a stereotypically Slytherin response to a quintessentially Ravenclaw "punishment"! Sam probably thought she was teaching Colin a lesson, when in reality, all she'd done was told him to hang a literal rule-breakers trophy on his wall! Brilliant!

Poor deluded girl! Colin wondered for a moment why there even were Prefects. All they seemed to do was cause trouble where no trouble was actually happening! He noticed that Sam was focusing on Quinn's poster. He wondered what she was thinking. Probably gloating in her illusory power and authority of them. Probably thinks she's all high and mighty! Hm. I think, lad, that Salwis shall make a bonny adversary! He couldn't help but smile at the Prefect as he stared at her.

Then suddenly Colin remembered! SCRSCRSCRRRRR!! He pushed his chair back from the table noisily, climbed up on the seat, grabbed his poster and then, waving it like a battle flag, got up on the back of the chair and leapt down to the floor with a merry squeak! "YEEEEP!! I just remembered! You said 'no talking until you finished your poster', lass, and now it's done!"

His bare feet made no noise on the floor as stepped up to the teacher's desk. Staring at Salwis defiantly the whole time, he slowly dragged her empty pan cake board away. SHSHSHSH! He laid the poster on the table in front of her so she could see all the rules written on it, exactly as she had specified in her instructions!

With a slight bow, Colin launched into his presentation. "So! For my presentation on why breaking the rules is bad, I chose Rule 18 and shall give 3 examples of the rule and what bad thing could happen if you break it!"

Colin practically hopped from one foot to another as one example of the horrible things that could go wrong with unauthorised creatures presented themselves one after the other in his imagination! "So, the Rule is: No unauthorized pets or creatures allowed, or a second pet. Now, most students, I'm sure, think this rule makes no sense whatsoever, right? I mean, who wouldn't want to keep a niffler or a bowtruckle as a companion, right? But there are so many other creatures, right? Like, just imagine if a student brought a dragon into the common room, right?" Colin spread his arms like they were wings and he jumped forwards with a roar! "Just think! If the room were full of students and the dragon started to blast everyone with his fire! They'd all be cooked and everything would be burned!! That would be real bad!"

He shivered at the thought of it! "Or, what if a student had a pet Miss Jensen didn't know about?" Colin eyes brightened and he talked even more excitedly: "What if it were really a transfigured object? Maybe something bad, something cursed? Or --- or what if that pet were an evil animagus?" Colin began to stalk around the space in front of the teacher's desk, looking around suspiciously. "What if he were a spy or something! That could put everyone in danger!" Colin turned quickly and hopped up onto the edge of the teacher's table on his hands and knees, face to face with Sam. "ROWR! What if he came after you!?"

"Or---!" He slid back off the table and shrugged dramatically. "What if someone brought in a second pet? I mean I wouldn't care too much, but maybe someone else would think that's unfair, right? Another student might try to get a second pet and then another, right? Pretty soon, all our dorms would be full of cats and dogs and nifflers and rats --- well, there's enough rats down in our dungeons anyway." A brief wistful smile passed over Colin's face as he licked his teeth. "We'd all be swimming in pets in our dorms!"

"So yeah, those are all bad things that could happen if that rule is broken!"
