Akemi skipped along Diagon Alley, her face filled with wonder. Her father had promised to bring her to the magical shopping area ever since she was little, and being here now was almost dream-like. There were many witches and wizards with pointy hats and wands. She would be able to use a wand someday. Someday soon.

She and her father had already collected all of the school supplies that were on the list. Now they were looking for a certain shop that filled Akemi with excitement. Her father told her they were going there as a surprise, and Akemi practically screamed in joy at the news. Now she was looking for the shop, and something told her it was near...

"Otōsan! (Father!)" She stopped at a store with the sign 'Magical Menagerie'. "This is the place, right?"

"Yep!" Her father yelled from the crowd. Akemi realized that she was skipping ahead so fast that she almost lost him. A slight feeling of embarrassment went through her. He came up to her after a bit and patted her back, looking up at the shop. "This is where I took your older sister to get her Pygmy Puff."

Akemi sighed. Not Kira again. This day was supposed to be about her, not her annoying self-entitled sister. But still, her father had brought her all this way to help her. She shouldn't start acting up.

Mr. Yamamoto put his hand on Akemi's shoulder, "Why don't you go inside and look around?"

A grin formed on Akemi's face. She ran up to the shop and pushed open the doors. Her mouth hung open as she looked around. All of the walls disappeared behind the multiple cages that covered them. Above her, birdcages hung from the ceiling, all of them containing owls. But the most amazing thing to Akemi was the animals. Oh, so many animals.

Owls, cats, fish, frogs... There were a collection of animals waiting for their perfect owner. Akemi looked around, first going to the cat section. She had been thinking about getting a cat, but looking through them now, none of them stuck out to her. Alright. Off to the pygmy section.

Her sister loved pygmies, but they didn't tickle Akemi's fancy. They were too bright, for starters, with their poofy pink/purple fur. And also, her sister had one. Anything her sister had she hated.

After glancing through most of the animals, Akemi started worrying. What if she didn't find the perfect pet? She glanced at the store's entrance. She could go now...

Wait.

Akemi's eyes met the ones of a small, cat-like creature. She quickly walked up to the cage containing the animal. Its fur was pure white and it had a small, adorable pink nose. Her face was practically on the cage. this little critter interested her. She smiled, still making eye contact with the animal.

"Hi, bud." She spoke softly.

The ferret put its head up in eagerness and squeaked. Akemi giggled and put her hands on the cage. This little critter was the one. She wanted to be with it forever.

"He seems to like you."

Akemi turned to face an elderly woman behind her. "He does?"

The woman came closer to her, "Yes... he usually doesn't come this close to other kids..." She smiled warmly "Do you like him, too?"

Akemi nodded her head "Yes- Yes, I really do!" She looked around the shop for her father and waved him to the ferret section. After he talked a bit to Akemi and the nice shopkeeper, everything was sorted out.

As the shopkeeper brought out the ferret from the cage, she turned to Akemi, "What would you like to name him?"

Akemi already knew what she wanted to name him, a name that fit the ferret's cute and playful nature. And overall, the cutest name she thought the ferret deserved.

"Tubby. His name is Tubby."
