I walked out to the grounds carrying a big stack of books, a quill with a small bottle of black ink. I had just found out that my dad was in St. Mungos, so I have a heavy heart and needed something to keep my mind off of it. I sat down against the wall and opened Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them.
I have always loved creatures and ever since I was a little kid have wanted to be a magizoologist, which is a magical zoologist, where people take care of magical creatures. My parents have always pushed me to explore other job ideas but I think they are all boring.
I decided to head back inside after I got bored of reading. I stood up, and walked around the corner.
“Whoa!” I shouted. I crashed into a boy, who had brown hair. I tried to remember if he was in any of my classes, but couldn’t. He was a Hufflepuff, because of the yellow badger patch on his gray sweater.
“Sorry, I guess I wasn’t looking where I was going.” I said, as I looked down at my feet. I leaned down and grabbed the book I had dropped.

Blaise was carrying a ball he recieved from home. He was bored, extremely bored. No one in the school seemed to play soccer. Some knew about the game but knew nothing on the rules or even how to attempt to kick it around. Most didn't even make the connection between the ball and the game it was meant for.
He was so focused on the ball that he didn't notice phased physically by the girl bumping into him.
Blaise barely managed to blurt out an abrupt "Oh!" before the girl started apologizing profusely and picked up the book she dropped from the floor.
The girl was around Blaise's size, the glasses that tilted a bit on her face made her blue eyes look bigger than they are. To Blaise's eyes she seemed very stressed out at first glance. Something was definitely boiling inside her mind and he was perceptive enough to notice it.
He also managed to sneak a quick glance towards the book's cover.
"Fantastic Beasts?" He asked, trying to ease the tension.
"That a fantasy book or something?"
Blaise quickly felt weird asking such a question to a magical student in a magical school. What is fantasy, even? There might as well be magical animals in this crazy place.

“Yeah… umm I really like learning about the animals in our world… I also like learning about plants…” I said awkwardly. “It’s a book I like to read when I’m anxious or scared.” I admitted.
“Not many people know this… but my dad is in St. Mungos. My mum owled me yesterday, and hasn’t given me any updates besides ‘he’s fine.’ So that’s why I’m kind of anxious.”
I let out a deep breath and felt that a huge load had been let off my chest. I had just told a kid I didn’t even know that my dad probably wasn’t ok. Athena dosen’t even know that he was in St. Mungos! I shook my head at the thought. Mental note: talk to Athena -my bff- about this situation.
I glanced up at him and noticed the black and white ball he was tossing up in the air and catching it.
I remembered back when I was supposed to be making friends in London, and some muggle kid had asked if I had wanted to play soccer with his friends. I was shocked but didn’t want to say no. I had been watching them play and it didn’t seem super hard, all you had to do was kick a ball right? Well I soon found out that I was wrong. Really wrong. At first I thought that I was doing ok, but it was hard to keep up with the kids who were running really fast. I ended up just watching them again, really disappointed.
Soccer. A muggle sport… That’s definitely a soccer ball…
I remembered the year I’d at Hogwarts. I hadn’t made many friends. I’d definitely seen Blaise alone in the common room and courtyard. I knew what it felt like to be alone…
I rolled up my sleeves of my sweater, pushed up my glasses and looked up at him. “You play soccer?” I asked as I pointed to the ball.
“I’m Cara by the way,” I quickly added.

Blaise stood there baffled for a few long moments.
"St. Mungos?" he questioned.
He knew what Cara was talking about was serious. It was clear from the expression on her face and her body language.
"Is that like a hospital for magic people?"
To be honest, Blaise was kind of stressed out about knowing next to nothing about the magical world.
Before he could manage to find his words, Cara asked him about soccer. Finally, someone is actually talking about soccer with him!
Although Blaise was positively astonished by all the magic around him that was so new to him, he did hold on to a lot of his life at Shamley green with his muggle friends.
"Yeah. Used to play with a few kids back at Shamley Green. Was quite good at it, too."
He proceeds to do a series of kick-ups and headings with the ball before skillfully bouncing it back to his hands. He tucked the ball under his armpit, a half-smile on his face.
"Not gonna keep happening, though. We kinda split up, me and the other kids. It's actually one of the reasons my mom managed to convince me to go to hogwarts."
The smile slowly faded from Blaise's face, making way to a pensive frown.

St. Mungos? Is that a hospital for magical people?
He asked me.
“Yeah. It’s near London.” He must not know much about the magical world. I thought to myself.
When he told me about how he and his friends split up and his mom convinced him to go to Hogwarts, I kinda knew how he felt.
My best friend Athena had kinda been ignoring me and I didn’t really know why. I assumed that she had been making new friends, but that still made me kind of mad because everyday she was spending less and less time with me. I know that sounds mean but… earlier in the year she said that she would never abandon me, and… I’m not so sure about that. On the other hand, I have never been good at making friends. All the other kids just find each other, and I am almost always the leftover.
“Do you like it here? I mean at Hogwarts,” I asked him.
“Also what’s your name?” Then I began to think. Do I even like it here? Well… it’s better than at home, where I have to do lots of chores… but at home I can hang out, and take a nap but here it’s almost always ‘homework first’ and when nobody has homework it’s ‘sorry I’m busy.’

"I mean all the magical stuff is absolutely bonkers. Most of the stuff people do here I never saw at home even though my mother is a... Whatchamacallit, full b-... No, 'Pure Blood'."
At that point a thought occured in Blaise's head that he should've had on his first days at Hogwarts.
'Distancing myself from anything magical might have been a mistake.'
He shuddered a bit at this realization, but pulled himself back together before the girl in front of him could notice.
"Me and my sister are apparently the first generation of 'half bloods' in my mother's family. The magical stuff in there goes centuries back.
She said my father was a non-magical person, and a soldier in the Brittish army. He died before I was born."

Blaise noticed he might have overshared. He abruptly quieted down. Letting some long moments of awkward silence pass before he remembered something and spoke.
"Oh, shoot." Blaise remarked under his breath, realizing that he didn't introduce himself, and promptly offered his hand for a shake.
"Name's Blaise. Nice to meet you, uh..."
The girl didn't yet introduce herself either.
Although the situation was at this point almost sweat-inducingly weird, the boy maintained a very confident appearance, as if he and the girl didn't share some of their most personal stories before they even knew each other's names.

Blaise shared about how he is a half blood and how his dad was a muggle, and had died before he was born.
“I’m a wizard born, pretty sure I’m a pure blood. My dad’s an auror, works for the ministry, and my mum, well she used to work for the ministry in some boring office job but quit so she could take care of me and my brothers Justin and Parker. I had some magic exposure as a kid, obviously more than you did, but… Ok being honest my family used it every day. We had to do some stuff the ‘muggle way’ because we live in Manchester, one of the biggest muggle cities. If we didn’t, well all of the muggles would be suspicious. They are already kind of suspicious of all of the owls that fly in to our house but…” I trailed off, knowing I had said to much.
"Name's Blaise. Nice to meet you, uh..."
“Cara!” I finished, as I shook his hand.
Blaise is a pretty nice guy, compared to some of the other ones I’ve met. I thought. Talking to him has made me feel way better. I glanced up at the beautiful sunset.
“Wow…” I whispered.
I turned and looked at Blaise, who was playing with his soccer ball again.
“Do you maybe want to walk down to the lake so we can get a better view at the sunset?” I asked him. If not, that’s ok… I just…”
