The Wall Between Nine and Ten
The Hemlocks arrived at King's Cross about half past ten in the morning. The train was set to leave at eleven, so they were there in enough time to wander around a little. Mel was far too excited to sit still. She was just half an hour away from taking her first big step into her new journey onto Hogwarts! She could feel her stomach bubbling. Was that from her excitement - or was it from her nervousness? Mel couldn't quite tell. She just knew that she had to get to platform nine and three-quarters.
However, there was one tinsy problem - Mel didn't know where the platform was. She saw platforms nine and ten, but no nine and three-quarters. "Mom?" she questioned as she and Joyce, her mother, approached platform ten. "Where is platform nine and three-quarters?"
"Right this way, sweetie," said Joyce. The family stood between the barriers of platforms nine and ten. Muggles were bustling their way about, paying no attention to the family.
"I still don't see the platform, mom," Mel said, becoming confused.
"Follow me then, and you'll see," Oscar, her father, said. He took their trolley and ran straight for the wall between platforms nine and ten! Mel covered her eyes as she was scared to watch, expecting to hear a crash, but none came. She looked and her father was gone.
"Now, Mel," Joyce started, "Just walk straight towards that wall and don't stop, just keep going! Your father is on the other side!" Mel nodded and did exactly as her mother said. She closed her eyes and walked quickly towards the wall, kicking up into a bit of a run as she became nervous. She ran straight through the wall and bumped right into her father.
"Careful!" he said, smiling softly. "That wasn't so bad now, was it?"
