Crossing house lines

Nick listened intently while the girl spoke, slowly taking the final bites of his food, making sure to not leave a single piece of the flaky fish that was a gift from heaven. He wasn't surprised when the girl wasn't quite as big a fan of books as Nick was. He had sort of been trained too enjoy them considering his mother was reading to him from a very young age every night, and then it sort of just became a part of his life. Most kids however even when they did read books read fantasy books, captain underpants, A-Z mysteries, lord of the rings if they were better readers than most eleven year olds.
Nick nodded along as the girl spoke. He had never really enjoyed running in the morning whenever they had a game earlier in the day and he had to wake up and run within an hour. However he could remember the occasional vacations to beaches where him and his mother would wake up really early and walk along the beach, fond memories.
"Its funny to me that the things that you considering fun like running and working out were part of the annoying parts of baseball to me." He chuckled slightly at the thought, humored that she enjoyed some of the things he dreaded, even if he knew them to be very beneficial.
He nodded though at her question. "I am. Mostly it's a lot of non fiction. For the past year or so my Father would give me a book to read and when I finished it I would give it back to him and get another. Most of the time they are books meant to teach me something that he think I should learn to become like him or better than him. I've read a lot of books about our brains, history and so on. Occasionally I would pick up a young adult fiction book and read the series over time by myself as well though." Nick scraped up the last bits of food on his plate and looked over at Vittoria.
"I enjoy it though" He smiled half truthfully. Unsure if the girl was wanting to eat more or not he asked "Whenever you are done eating we could go for a walk if you wanted. It's not quite the morning but you did say you liked walks" He offered, more for himself than the girl he had to admit. "Where did your enjoyment of weight lifting come from though, not a lot of kids our age enjoy that?" He asked keeping the conversation flowing.

Crossing house lines
Vittoria worked on her plate as the Gryffindor talked, trying to use the table manners she had been taught as a child, but, alas, her hunger overwhelmed her self-control very, very quickly. At least the food was... somewhat healthy. Better what they were having in the States, at the very least, that was for sure.
She giggled a little to herself at the thought.
Something about... baseball? She had never heard of that before- she'd have to ask him about it later if it came up again. Was he a Muggle-born? Interesting. Not that she had anything against anyone who was, of course, that'd just be ridiculous.
Vittoria was more interested in the social side of it. How did their societies function? What jobs did they need fulfilled, and how did they accomplish so many things without the help of magic? What sports had they invented in their magicless world, what books and concepts and art had they stumbled upon and created in their own world?
They may all live on the same planet, but as far as Vittoria was concerned, it was two entirely different worlds.
She frowned a little listening to him talk about books- being as great as your parents should truly not be their number one goal when raising you, right?
The Ravenclaw finished off her water once she was done with her plate, finally speaking.
"A walk would be nice!" she smiled at him a little, head tilting as she considered his question.
"Ah, nothing extreme, I'm afraid. When I was a kid, my parents would have us- my brother and I, that is- help out in the vineyard. Sure, they have magic, but it's been a long-time family tradition to help with the process. I had to carry bushels and bushels of grapes, and I guess I just grew to love it." She shrugged.
"My parents always were big on how magic doesn't guarantee a healthy physique, and you can't just use it as a way out of everything or to be lazy. They're on a bit of a Muggle workout equipment phase right now, really," Vittoria giggled at the thought.
"So... how about that walk?"

Crossing house lines
Nick was glad the girl was accepting of his offer to walk, and felt better knowing that nothing had gone wrong yet. He sat watching as she finished her food as well, a frown forming when he talked about his reading life. It wasn't unusual for people to not be the biggest fan of his father, I mean even Nick himself knew that his father was a lot different than most but he still loved him. And though he didn't really know why it never bothered him how much his dad pushed him...it didn't.
Nick was glad to hear however that Vittoria seemed to care about her hobby and being healthy. Nick was by no means a health freak but he had also grown up fairly healthy, eating well and exercising constantly even if it was more for baseball than his own desires. He remembered one of the dreaded competitions the team would do that favored people in good condition and made those that were not as good runners hate everything. In essence it just involved a lap with the first 2 runners to finish the lap being done while the rest continued, he always felt bad for others during it.
"Thats a good way to see life, I am sure many people rely too much on magic to keep their lives going but it is a good idea to never let yourself become to complacent, thats how things go downhill I imagine." He was by no means new to magic, but surely there were things magic couldn't cure? Certain sicknesses that maybe the magic world had yet to even find a way to cure. But either way having a healthy body could often make having a healthier mind easier as well.
The girl brought up the walk at the end of her own little ramble and Nick quickly obliged. Standing up and over the bench he carefully made sure not to kick those around him considering the place was still busier than he ever preferred it to be. He turned around offering a hand to the girl just to make it easier to step out without losing balance or kicking someone on accident. He wasn't sure if she would take it but while his father never cared about teaching the boy to actually be a good human, his mother had taught him some manners and niceties. "Would you like to lead?" He offered.
