Name: Raul Otávio Vinicius Mirales Correa
School: Castelobruxo
Year: Third
Status: Pureblood
Appearance

Narcissism begets one to take a great deal of pride in their appearance, and Raul is no exception. Without fail, Raul dresses in naught but the finest in designer clothing, in the styles that have taken the magical communities of Sao Paolo and Buenos Aires by storm. Muggle garb, after all, is all too vulgar and common. His dark hair is almost always perfectly quaffed and slightly curled, allowing it to possess a near-weightless quality as it sits delicately upon his head. A meticulous skincare routine has afforded that same level of purity to his face, allowing it to be free from blemishes.

That said, he is betrayed by a rather small and slight stature. Raul is not a tall boy, and rather finds himself skirting below the lower end of average. Coupled with his slight build and rather delicate features, he is almost feminine in his appearance. Were one to use less than perfect descriptors, he could be best described as soft and lithe, almost elfin in build.
Personality

Raul is arrogant, narcissistic, misanthropic, and bigoted to the point of unbearability. He does not only think that he is better than just about anyone else, he is absolutely convinced of it, and more than that, he is firmly of the mind that everyone else is equally as sure of just how superior he is. Be it in the realm of sport, academics or even in familial ties, Raul sees himself as a man at the pinnacle of success and achievement. The reality of those situations is, of course, entirely irrelevant to his own world view. Failure is simply a result of a system being rigged against him, faulty tools or poor craftsmanship. Responsibility for shortcomings is the sort of thing that he will never claim.

With few exceptions, Raul sees just about anyone and everyone as beneath him, this has been especially compounded by entirely warped senses of blood purity and national pride. He is blatantly biassed against muggleborn wizards, and will throw around terms such as ‘mudblood’ with reckless abandon. More than that, he is fiercely proud of his own national heritage. However, such nationalism finds itself more often taking the form of a sense of muted superiority, both with respect to his country and his school. Nowhere is this more evident than in his stubborn refusal to grasp the English language, instead preferring to rely upon his classmates and brother to translate his tirades of arrogant Portuguese.

There is no tempering of his tongue nor subtlety in how he holds himself, Raul’s more untoward traits are always ‘turned on’ so to speak. He does not see the need to censor himself for the benefit of those who he considers inferior. Rather, in actuality, it is his opinion that in being as brutal as he is, he is doing them a favour by making them aware of that plain and simple truth that he is better than them.

That said, his love of himself does extend to a fierce loyalty to his family and friends, and he would sooner suffer great personal harm than allow an insult to the honour of those who share in either his blood or the blood of the covenant. While he is unequivocally competitive with those who he considers close, and will not hesitate to harm them to benefit himself, such an exception exists solely with respect to Raul. Others are not afforded the same ability to treat his family nor friends with impunity, and they are expected to show them the deference that they so obviously deserve.
History

The Correa family claims the noble and ancient blood, with alleged ties back to the royal court of Asturias. The veracity of these alleged ties have been called into doubt on more than one occasion. However, the official position of the family is that any such attempt to besmirch their good name and reputation is born entirely out of ill-will and misplaced jealousy. The most accurate records of the family’s history can be traced to the city of Lisbon in and around the period shortly after the Liberal Civil War. Since the 1840s, the family’s influence and spread increased to such a degree that numerous branches exist within both the New World and the Iberian peninsula. One such Peninsular branch claims that an ancient ancestor was the direct inspiration for the tale of Don Quixote, alleging the wizard who slew a band of marauding giants cast a spell on the spectating muggles to assume that he’d assaulted windmills, thus maintaining the secrecy of the wizarding world. Of course, the truth of such a claim is almost certainly false, with its first known utterance being traced back to a drunken exaltation in a Lima bar circa 1985.

The most mystical and mercantile house of Mirales, on the other hand, does maintain more succinct and verifiable records. Among the first magical settlers from the old country to the New World, the family made their fortune in the export and trade of exotic magical goods and creatures to and from the Americas, Europe and Africa. Through ruthless business acumen, the ancestral line gradually ascended through the colonial social strata.

Maximiano Lourenço Carlinhos Caetano Correa and Emília Alexandrina Soraia Seixas Mirales first met while attending Castelobruxo. Although, it was not until after they both had graduated that they began to see one another in a way other than platonic. Through mutual friends and shared social circles amongst the purebloods of Southern Brazil, the pair would gradually begin to spend more and more time together, and before they knew it, their shared beliefs and ambition would result in a romance and marriage. Of course, the marriage was acceptable to both of their families, both were of good pureblood stock, and both had shown themselves more than adept in the realm of business.

In due course, the newlyweds would build their joint business ventures, sinking further and further into workaholism and dedication. Of course, their lives were not spent entirely in the pursuit of capital, and in succession they would bring to the world three children: Arabelle Veronica Catia, Gregorio Andrade Botín and Raul Otávio Vinicius. For the most part, both Maximiano and Emília were not present in the lives of their young children. By no means were they abusive or negligent, merely distant, preferring to allow their employed house elves Fedorento and Pança to care for their progeny. As the children aged and began to develop into rather problematic young people, the solution was always to just throw money at the youths in hopes it would solve any problems. For the most part, this proved an effective enough salve, and none of the three engaged in any behaviour that could be considered entirely deplorable.

For the most part, the relationship between the sister and her brothers was rather tense. Arabelle, now in her final year at Castelobruxo, took it upon herself to mercilessly bully both Gregorio and Raul as they grew up with the view of building their character and resilience. The result of such conflict was the former often defending his younger brother, resulting in a profound sense of loyalty in Raul for his brother. Whilst the relationship with his sister has warmed somewhat, interactions between Raul and Arabelle are still more often than not wrought with insults and venom, albeit venom tinged with love.

His true hostility remains aimed toward the other denizens of Castelobruxo unfortunate enough to make his acquaintance. The arrival of the toucan that brought his acceptance letter to that most noble institution had been a foregone conclusion since the day of his birth. Of course, his first instance of magic only cemented that pre-destined conclusion. A result of yet another instance of bullying from his older sister, the tears of the then four-year old Raul were joined by rainfall. Peculiar considering the rain fell from the ceiling.

His position in the rankings often leaves room to be desired, with his academic results settling firmly around average. However, where he has excelled, surprisingly, is in the required chores and other extracurricular activities that form the remainder of the school’s curriculum. Despite his own insistence that it is peasant work, his aptitude seems best served in the garden and herbology classroom, and not in the world of academia nor charms.
