Oh…She had made him laugh. Eun-ji’s heart swelled with pride. She was aiming to lighten up the mood of course but the reaction she had gotten was far better than expected. Smiling brightly, she listened to his little comeback. “Well, I happen to think pirates are pretty cool. You are missing a parrot but I’m willing to overlook that detail.” She shot right back. After all, Flash didn’t like animals. Not that she was being serious of course except for the opinion that pirates were indeed cool.

There was a short pause after their little exchange when the Slytherin simply looked at her. The witch held his gaze without saying anything, giving him some time to think. At least that’s what it seemed he was doing. “This is... my eye...” Eun-ji blinked in surprise. She was meaning to ask because it didn’t look like Jack managed to hit him there however in the end, she decided to let it go. Just like she said, she didn’t want to pry, hoping he would tell her in his own time. Well it appeared the time was now. Both of them instinctively looked around to see if there was someone lurking around but so far, the coast was clear. And so Flash began to explain…

Eun-ji steeled herself for what was about to come. She had no way of knowing what Flash planned to tell her but whatever she expected, it certainly was not this. It started rather innocently with him simply revealing that both of his eyes were initially blue. It was somewhat confusing since she always assumed the boy had heterochromia but it didn’t sound too bad. That is until he got to the part where he explained how the change happened. This time the Ravenclaw couldn’t stop the gasp from escaping her lips. She may have been collectedness personified but one could not simply hear their friend’s eye was taken out by a hag and remain calm. Still, it was Flash, who was suffering the most right now and so with all the power left, she managed to collect herself again. Reaching for his hand once more, the girl gave it a firm yet gentle squeeze in an effort to ground him. It was meant to be an encouraging gesture though it wasn’t strong enough to prevent him to let go should he decide to do so.

Unfortunately, as if the eye exchange was not bad enough, her friend figured out tonight that he was being watched all this time. Eun-ji was smart enough to understand that whenever they were together, she would have been seen as well but honestly? She couldn’t care less. She did not think herself important enough to be of any interest to the hag and in any case, she was not someone to express herself too much. It would be clear they had a connection, which might have put her in danger but to be fair, Eun-ji was doing the same to the boy. Perhaps not on such a scale but she knew her grandparents wouldn’t approve of her closeness to Flash and she knew what they were capable of and yet…she selfishly chose to ignore all that. At least her friend didn’t put her in danger purposely…unlike her. Thankfully, the Hunts were far away and though she suspected her grandmother had a little spy at school, she wouldn’t go to such lengths as to find the boy and hurt him. Hogwarts was relatively safe space for the raven-haired witch. Flash didn’t have the same luxury.

Marion was always around if not physically then she would be present thanks to that horrible curse. It was at times like this that Eun-ji realised how powerless she really was. For all the perfect grades, there was absolutely nothing she could do for Flash save getting angry on his behalf. And oh boy was she angry, so much so it was probably showing on her face. Most unusual display of emotion for her. “Why? What does she even want from you?” She whispered trough gritted teeth. It was not necessarily that she demanded an answer. She just couldn't stop her thoughts spilling out loud at the moment. Her grip on the boy’s hand (if he didn’t let go previously) tightened to the point where it might have become painful. Eun-ji realised her mistake soon enough and quickly let go. “Sorry…I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Sighing, she clenched her jaw in frustration. She really worried about him but she couldn't protect him from this. “Is there nobody that can help? One of the professors perhaps?” She paused then. “Or is it that you don’t dare to ask them?” She would not judge him if that was the case. Eun-ji could be stubborn like that too at times too. “If so then…is there something I can do? No sorry…dumb question.” She reprimanded herself before the Slytherin could confirm that there wasn't. Eun-ji thought hearing it from him would be much too painful. “I just…I just wish I could.” Her voice trailed away, suddenly feeling so very small.

It had been nice to share a moment of levity, it would make the feeling of encroaching darkness abate long enough for him to explain with an even head. The problem was, her reaction was the thing he feared, the reason he suffered in silence. He was raised by narcissists, and the empathy he had would make the world confusing and frightening even when it wasn't cursing him. He did not want to cause anyone else pain or sorrow, it felt sinful and selfish to let the pain grow infect the hearts of the people he loved. And yet, even though he thought he was doing everyone a favor, he had actually made them more miserable. They wanted to share his pain. He didn't understand it, but he tried to endure the look on Eun-ji's face.

When she squeezed his hand, he would sense the frustration inside her. She would apologize, but he would only shake his head, quietly watching her and listening to what she had to say. He couldn't say it was entirely unexpected, the confusion and anger were things he also felt the last seven months, but the strength of the reaction was elevated. He had known Eun-ji for all of those seven months as well, seeing her almost every day in class. In that time, they had shared hundreds of little conversations, made each other laugh, shared their insight and helped one another when they needed it. Before he knew it, they had become very close. Most of the time, he had been so focused on himself, on trying to adjust to what was happening to him, that he hadn't even realized just how close they had become.

She did have questions, though she would barrel through a few of them as she was clearly trying to process the information. Flash's face would take on a worried expression as he watched her go through the motions, though he'd not notice how transparent he was being. He would share his newfound paranoia. "I don't trust any of them. How could I, she had been a student here for years. Someone has to be helping them, the staff are compromised."

The saddest part would arrive last, which was the hopelessness. That was the problem, he had been flung into the deep end, and no amount of struggling would erase the fact that he would never reach the shore in time. He was holding on, only because it was more favorable than giving up. If he lasted for as long as was possible, there was still the chance that he would figure something out. It was better than absolute despair.

"I don't need help, it only just seemed like you should know." Flash's voice would be calm, now caring more about Eun-ji's emotions than his own situation. "I have to cover it. That's something. I can stop her from seeing any more at least."

It was a hard sell, clearly losing half his eyesight was not a victory. He was a Seeker, he needed his eyes. Quidditch had been one of the only things left that he still put all of his effort into throughout the year, he had even managed to catch the snitch in the last game. The longer he dwelled on it, the more depressing it was. After having said it out loud, it almost felt ingenuine to pretend like it wasn't bad. The thing was, it was actually even worse.

"That wasn't all. She marked... there's a mark right here." He didn't know if it was the right thing to continue, if it was too much. He couldn't help but feel the picture was still incomplete. "Since then, I can't sleep. Every night is a constant battle. I think... I..."

Flash trailed off, feeling like he had finally found the boundary of when his thoughts became unacceptable to express. I think she's slowly killing me. I read about hags turning men into husks. It was grim, and he didn't feel like Eun-ji needed to be reminded of how grim it was. It was already implied enough. Returning his meandering gaze back to her, he'd shake off the last thought.

"Speaking of, it's already so late." Flash would yawn as he thought about the hour, given that the ball took place after curfew, it was nearing midnight. Earlier, he had spent hours helping set up the festival. "I'm exhausted."

Hiro returned Valentin’s intense gaze, apparently inspecting the very depths of his niffler soul. Valentin smiled. He enjoyed the probable J-Pop idol’s intense interest because anyone with a passionate interest in quidditch immediately gained points in Val’s book. Besides, it would be fascinating to pick the mind of Mahoutokoro’s beater to get a Japanese perspective on how quidditch ought to be played. This was quite the opportune meeting, and Valentin began moving his hand as if to speak-- but the conversation was to be put on hold momentarily.

Valentin Schnell was known for, if nothing else, his speed. With lightning reflexes, Valentin spun around and caught Felix in his arms as the Billy Idol of Durmstrang flew directly at him. Valentin’s patent leather shoes shoes slid back an entire foot across the slick dancefloor, but he did not crumble at the new boy’s weight.

«Так, здравствуй!» (“Why, hello!”) greeted Valentin blithely.

"SHIT. Are you okay? Some redheaded asshole, I think he was the Mahoutokoro champion--"

«Я в порядке,» (“I’m fine,”) replied Valentin in haste.

"Yefim, where is he--... I… Need help." Valentin didn’t even need the line about Durmstrang pride. He was already on it. There was no time to address the whereabouts of their champion.

Although Valentin was too late to Felix’s dilemma to attempt a body block for what appeared to be a spell coming his way, it was never too late for retaliation. Pulling his wand from his back pocket, Valentin sank into his knees and threw back his arm towards Hiro to indicate to stand back before angling it at his target.

“People should DANCE at the BALL!” shouted Valentin at the boy who might as well have been the wizarding world’s answer to Elvis-impersonators, Mathias Pride. “Tarantallegra!”

It took a few moments for Eun-ji to realize how much control she had lost. It fully hit her only after she saw Flash's worried expression. And wasn’t that just ridiculous? He was not in a situation where he should be the worried one. Sighing and feeling rather disappointed in herself, Eun-ji shook off her anger or well… pushed it deep down as she did with all unwanted emotions. The anger remained with her but it wouldn't bother the boy anymore. After all people wanted to share things with her precisely because of her calm nature. It was what was expected of her. Perhaps Flash wasn’t one of those people but it would still probably make him more comfortable that way.

For a moment, the Ravenclaw considered her friend's reply. She wished it didn't make so much sense but it did. She also wished she could go out and make all of the professors choke on Veritaserum. Maybe they could find someone that could be trusted then. It was an absurd notion of course. It was also highly likely that there were more of the good ones that would want to help than the other way round yet as much as she hated to admit it, there was no way to figure out which one was which. It could also be that Marion had helpers among the students rather than the adults but how incompetent would they all have to be to miss a hiding hag amidst of the kids for so many years? “I see...that sounds plausible.” She nodded solemnly. “I’m sorry, I’m a solution seeker…always was. My mother says sometimes people are not looking for one but it’s a hard habit to shake.” The witch explained. Not that she was happy with his words. Covering his eye was preventing Marion from spying on him sure, but it was in no way improvement for his life. There were many things that would be much harder to do for him now, including playing Quidditch, which she knew he loved.

The Ravenclaw understood what it felt like to have your passion slipping through your fingers and she felt for the boy but it was not her biggest concern. Hags were vile creatures; this was not something Flash could simply wait out. Spying on him was bad enough but the mark he mentioned…it seemed to be doing a lot of damage to his well-being. “Since then, I can't sleep. Every night is a constant battle. I think... I...” The Ravenclaw opened her mouth, once again eager to offer some advice before realizing that was most likely not what he wanted. At least not tonight. She supposed they could talk about his lack of sleep later. The implications that came with it terrified her. She didn’t even want to think about them but she knew she would. It was something for later though. When she was alone and the boy couldn’t see her miserable expression.

“I…yes. You are right. It was an exhausting evening for you even without all that. You should at least try to get some sleep.” She would attempt to smile at him then. It worked to a degree but it wasn't her best one. “Thank you for telling me Flash. I promise I’ll keep it a secret for you but please, do come to me if you think there is anything I can do at any point…or well…if you just need to talk. It’s a lot to carry all by yourself. Being selfish is not always a bad thing. It’s okay to put yourself first in situations like this and I do love talking to you.” There was so much more that she wanted to tell him but this was not the time nor the place to do so. He shared a lot with her today and probably wanted to be alone now. Eun-ji could understand that. “Now, I should probably go and find my cousin or I’ll never hear the end of it.” She sighed and waved somewhere towards the crowd.

Despite saying so, the witch would stay and watch her friend walk away (assuming that's what he did) until she could no longer see him. It wouldn’t make her feel any more calm but it was…something at least.

It was like everything around Ileen had slowed down. All the words from her pale friend dripped from her mind like raindrops on a window. Only one thing sank in. They believed that the boy was dead. Vladimir, the person who had been involved with Victor and who had a terrible reputation, had information too. It was too much. She tried to brief, not able to reply, focusing on the air filling her lungs and leaving them, every breath an effort and pain.
It was too much. So much had happened that she didn’t understand. She just had wanted to keep him safe, keep him alive. Keeping his soul and mind alive. A part of her knew that there was so much more to that and that she couldn’t even estimate the bottom of it.

Although this conversation took just a few moments, it was like weeks and months passed by with her just standing there and staring into emptiness, trying to fight the consuming pressure of her spinning mind, trying to not get sucked into the void. The confusion and fear seemed to pull her into the depths, without a goal and without a clue, she was tossed around. Was he really dead? Was he just gone? What had happened? Who had done this?
The light blue eyes peeled out of the darkness and looked at her. She felt a hand on one shoulder, then on the other, and the world around her slowed down. There was no reproach in the eyes, only an urgent question. Where was he and why wasn't she looking?
She swallowed, her tongue rough as sandpaper, as she stared back, unable to give an answer. Still, there was something reassuring about his presence. Right, those were the right questions. She had a mission. She couldn't let herself be distracted.

She took a gasping breath and finally the world around her came to a halt again. Aida was long gone and her eyes focused on Percival, who must have asked her a question.
Blushing slightly and still a little confused, she tried to arrive in the here and now. "Dancing?" Her dark eyes darted to the dance floor. "I- yes, why not?"

If he led the way, she would follow him slowly, wobbly on her feet and searching the crowd for the blue eyes. When they had found their spot to start theri dance, she would put one hand on his shoulder and the other in his hand. Her eyes were now firmly fixed on the blond boy.
She could no longer hold back the question. "I wonder what happened to Victor after the last ball. Have you seen him afterwards?"

[Nicholas’s response was wordless, he never quite could manage to master the art of wordplay with its subtle intricacies and social dangers. But physicality he could understand, whether it was the danger of a race, or the need for violence as recourse, fists and blows were a far more natural means of expressing oneself than through easily misconstrued adjectives and nouns. But, he didn’t need to use his knuckles, nor his darker urges here, for the simple art of touch could also be tender and caring. So it was that he pulled Aurora into a hug, a tight one, probably far too tight. He was a fair sight taller than her, and even as they sat on the rather dirty ground, he’d use that bulk to pull her close.

They’d kissed, they’d held hands, but the emotion behind the simple hug seemed entirely different to Nicholas. There wasn’t the same sense of neverending nervousness that seemed to colour the rest of their affectionate interactions. The hug was simpler, built upon a different foundation. It was a gesture of comfort, not one of blushing crushes and embarrassing moments.

“It’ll be safe,” Nicholas assured her, his convictions absolute, “They wouldn’t run it if it wasn’t. Besides, if anyone gets hurt they can just be magicked back to healthy good as new, simple as.”

“Hey, how about we get out of here? It’s loud and people are being flamin’ annoying,” He added, not releasing the hug, “Maybe we can sneak around the castle and see if we can’t scrounge up some sweets or something? I’m sure with the ball on fire there’ll be somewhere we can find food and just not have to deal?”

In due course, the second year would stand up, and would offer his hand to his girlfriend, he supposed that was what she was, it was an odd sort of word to think over, a strange reality that he had entered into.

The champions had been selected, yet it seemed that his entire night, as it so often did, had become governed by Aurora Ranvier.

It appeared as if Valentin had his hands full now.

The boy pulled his wand from his back pocket and used his free arm to gesture at Hiro from behind.

Obligingly, Hiro stepped back a few paces to get out of the general area. It definitely looked as if Valentin was about to cast some kind of spell in retaliation. Being in the danger zone when that happened was not on his list of things to do. He watched as Valentin tried to cast the Dancing Feet Spell at Mathias. Hiro had to admit, he kind of wanted to see what his roommate would look like dancing like that. Because he'd never seen it before. If the spell hit, snapping a picture of this would be priceless. Not that Hiro had a wizard camera but surely someone at the ball had one there.

Maybe he could borrow one.

Hiro's stomach growled a little, reminding him that he still hadn't been able to get any delicious food.

Once he found out whether the Dancing Feet Spell had hit Mathias, he'd go off in search of some food and see if he could meet any other new faces. That reminded him, he still had to make some flower crowns and masks too. And eventually reunite with Akira again. He hadn't seen his date since the fiasco, that had been known as FTT, had taken place. By now his embarrassment had died down, so Hiro was fairly certain he could face Akira without feeling his cheeks heat up. The pink haired boy glanced around the general area, searching the faces of those who were close by.

There were a few.

Debating on whether to introduce himself, or wait until he found out the results of the dance spell, he hesitated.

Her eyes widened slightly as she heard Howard's words. Name the time and place... He really was going to do this. "No! Don't-" She wanted to say something more, stop this from happening but he had already turned to leave. She sighed, looking at his back and then at Erin with a pleading look on her face. Why did they have to fight each other? There were so many other people to fight with. For starters, that Durmstrang kid deserved a good slap. The list of people she wanted to deck in the face grew faster than she liked but she was trying her very best to stop the fight. Because she knew how badly this would end for everyone.

She could only hope that they never got around to doing this but there was nothing she could do to convince either of them to step away. She had a good feeling neither was the sort to back away from the challenge. Because that was all it was, it was a challenge and now that it had been issued, saying "no" showed weakness that neither wanted to show.

Her gaze flickered to Falentra, who seemed to be handling things on her end just fine. She sighed softly, looking down at the ground. Dammit. Her fists were clenched tightly - one of them around her wand even tighter but it did seem that the wand was no longer needed. The arguments and fights seemed to have died down, at least for now. But... she hated this. Her body shook slightly in anger but in also worry. This would not end well. Her mind went back to the newspaper and its articles before looking around. Her gaze fell onto the familiar face of her brother, whose glare she could feel even in the distance.

Well, her mood had officially been ruined for the evening. She sighed, scooping Pizza carefully into her pocket as she looked away. Without hesitation, she made her way to the exit to quickly escape the whole fiasco now that things had settled. There was nothing she could do to make things better here, anyway. If she was truly honest with herself, today went better than she had expected. The fight could have broken out then and there and the damage done might have been far worse. But there was a feeling inside of her that she could not hide or shake. It was gnawing at her like something was not right but she could not quite figure out why or what it was.

Arjan was in a bad mood today. The list of things that had gone wrong today was growing. First of all, someone had thrown a pastry at him and got it into his hair - clearly jealous and trying to ruin his good looks! But what was worse was that he did not get his revenge on them, since he could not figure out who had actually done it. Second, Durmstrang was foolish enough to not pick him as their champion, which made no sense. He was clearly superior. The goblet was clearly rigged. Likely by Hogwarts, since they obviously did not want Durmstrang to win! If they had let him be the champion, he would obviously have beaten them all! This was ridiculous! And thirdly, someone had totally cheated in the Flying Torch Tag because he had not won!

Today was just a bad day. Everything was going wrong and he was fuming. Marching back to the Great Hall, his gaze searched the room as though hoping for someone to cheer him up. Perhaps he could find someone to punch. That would definitely make him feel better. Alternatively, maybe he could find someone to flirt with. That was a good option too. Though he was not really in the mood to flirt. He was just mad. His fist was itching to hit someone.

Narrowing his eyes as he spotted something happening in the distance. A fight. Good, he could totally relieve some tension. But before he could make his way there, the realisation set upon him. That guy from the summer camp who had been named Hogwarts champion was there - and in front of him was his very own sister. The expression on his face soured instantly as he shot her a glare her way. Not that she was paying attention. What in the name of Stribog was she up to now? Making waves where she should not be... Why was she getting into fights? He had not seen that side of her. Hell, he expected her to fully turn and flee the minute any fight broke out if anything...

He stared at her, mostly out of curiosity, trying to figure out what for the love of Merlin she was doing. Things seemed to settle down though and she turned to see him. Arjan gritted his teeth a little, trying to piece everything together. He felt the need to say or do something but he was not entirely sure what. Luckily, she turned quickly and seemed to flee from the scene before he had the chance to walk up and do anything.

Exhaling sharply, he went to the drinks counter and downed some water to try and calm down as he ran his hand over his hair. There was a lot going on and most of it just annoyed the hell out of him. Why was nothing going to plan? There was a bigger thing happening here. Something he was missing. Someone was out to get him, surely! Ugh. He did not want to be here. Ditching his date, he made his way to the exit so he could go for a run or find something far more entertaining to do, like punching someone.

Mikael's head ached sharply as he stood back up to his full height. His eyes met the silvery ones before him. The eyes held a deep sadness that was not reciprocated in the stormy blue. It was as if something had stopped him from being able to truly connect with the barely there tears. Flung so harshly from one place to the next had left him vulnerable and a bit out of touch. Sure he was not back down in those dark waters, but it came with the price of apathy. A small frown twitched across the boy's mouth as he followed the other's gaze towards the culprit. He wondered if it could be considered cruel not to give any insight to the white-haired boy. A part of himself did not care, but another part simply did not want to talk about the stormy waters that threatened to pull him under.

Sometimes he worries if he'll make it up again.

The boy rubbed at the slowly forming lump on his skull. His gaze stared after Valentin absently as he walked away. As he walked away... With a harsh snap, the world came back into sharp focus, and at that moment he felt something pull sharply at his chest. Mikael stumbled a bit as he made his way after the white-haired boy. The light burrowed harshly into him everything moving in an odd manner. Though, he could not truly put it into words. It was almost as if the shadows themselves were trying to close in on him. As the light walked away. His brows furrowed slightly in confused distress. "Valentin, this is the one who hurt me?" he said a frown clear across his features. Though unspoken the boy would wish he had asked the other not to leave him.
