Howling in the Distance
~ This Roleplay takes place in the Year 2015 ~

Gasping loudly in the cold morning, Thurston pulled his body up. Pressing his dirty palms into the muddy ground of the Forbidden Forest; leaves scattered around as his fingers bored themselves into the earth. Hunched over the ground, he let out stressed breath. His every bone was aching as he let out a uncontrolled sob, that he could not hold back. Scratches covered his frail body as he got dressed in his worn down clothes that could barely be counted as that. Shredded pants, that reached his ankles. Also he wore a loose shirt that hung over his upper body. It was once white, now it was full of dirt and dried mud.
∞
His eyes were glowing in the dark, taking in the moon that was slowly changing place with the sun. He was used to all of this, had been for six years. He was used to this curse and would not bother changing anything about it. It helped him, helped him survive on his own as he walked around in the Forbidden Forest. It had been years, when he first changed. Had been years when he was turned.
2010. The year that had changed his life for eternity. Coming from a muggle family, who tolerated him being a wizard just barely, as they had planned his life out differently, it was expected he would be thrown out after this turn of events.
∞
Thurston shook his head, as he pulled himself up, standing shakily on his two feet as he looked around through the forest. The strange taste in his mouth let him scrunch up his face ever so slightly. While he looked around he noticed that he never had been in this part of the Forest, after some more seconds he knew why. He was near that school. Near the school he had taught in for five years, graduating with just his O.W.L.s as he did not bother doing his N.E.W.T.s after he got turned. He knew how the society thought about his kind, no one would take someone like him.
∞
Dropping down at the branch of a tree, he leaned back against it and closed his eyes. He just wanted to forget about his past. As long as he would not do that, he would not fit with the other packs running through the Forbidden Forest. But he was different from them, he did not want to throw his wand away, he still used it frequently. He was half wizard. He was half beast. Caught in the two universes, as he did indeed accept to be a part in both of the clashing worlds. No one had ever given him the chance to live in both.

Howling in the Distance
At the end of September 2015,
Already a few weeks. It was the amount of time that Ackerley has been working at the school. Time always flew so fast and somehow, Ackerley missed his old career. He had made a great name for the Blackburn family after the terrible incidents of the past generation. Somehow, the man felt as if it was not enough. He wanted more. He was greedy for more recognition. The Blackburn son knew that his family was specializing themselves into the art of deadly curses. It was well known. Especially after the Second Wizarding War. Therefore, the young man only wanted to wash this memory away. He hated his paternal side of the family so much that it hurts each part of his whole body. Perhaps it was why he had decided to restore his family reputation by specializing himself in the curses arts too. He wanted to make things better. He felt as if going into the same kind of career that his ancestor while doing better and greater would only help to reduce the back talking about them. He only wanted to be seen as himself, Ackerley Blackburn, professor of charm at Hogwarts.
It was now the morning, the young man had stayed up all night long, wandering around in the secured ground of the wizard's school. Ackerley had found a few days ago, a special location, far away from the rest of the building where he could calmly relax and read his books about dark artifacts. It has only been a few weeks since he had arrived in the school land. Even so, the young man had already discovered a few interesting items. One, in all of them, had caught his attention. Ackerley put his left hand in his pocket only to take out a black amulet a few instants after. Each time he took this amulet in his hand, something strange was occurring. He had yet to make a deeper research about it. The jewelry was old, the man could tell only by passing his fingers on it. It could be extremely dangerous, but Ackerley did not really mind it. He was used to be confronted by dark artifacts. It would not be something new in his life. After all, curses were his specialty too.
Sighing slowly, Ackerley looked around. The day was cutting through the dark night sky, it was already time for the sunrise. At least, The man didn't have any classes to teach before the afternoon. He would have the time to wander around. It was at that time that he decided to take a walk in the Forbidden Forest. The day was up so nothing could actually happen. Plus, Ackerley would be able to defend himself. He started walking toward the entrance of the lugubrious forest while reviewing part of his life.
After a while, something started to feel wrong. The young man couldn't tell what exactly, but he was almost certain that he was not alone. Quickly, Ackerley took out his wand, preparing himself for the worse. It was well known that many creatures lived in this forest. Therefore, the man had not expected them to be awake during the day. It was probably a contradictory thought... Slowly, the man watched each of his steps, trying to make less sound. He needed to put himself back into his old role. In this instant, he needed to be an unspeakable again. The presence was starting to feel stronger. The individual or creature was close. Only a few steps, only one turn around a few trees and the man would be in front of it. A rush of adrenaline went into his body. The best would be to get the attention of the mysterious being, before jumping in front of danger. As it was still dark a little since the trees were huge and thick, Ackerley decided to cast a quick Lumos with a gracious hand twitch.
- Get out of your hiding unknown being. Do not try anything against me. This could go horribly wrong.
Howling in the Distance
September, 27th
Thurston was still exhausted from the previous night. He always was as the transformation took a lot out of him. His bones would snap and grow in size or shrink, would change shapes as he either turned into a werewolf or back into the human being he was at most days. His muscles would always ache after he changed shapes. This night had been no other.
When he heard steps in the distant coming near him, he was still partially transformed. Such as his eyes that had that nocturnal glow to it. His nails were still sharp and slightly elongated.
He took a look up as he could see a figure approaching in the distant.
A man was walking his way. He was not really tall, had dark hair and seemed to carefully look out for something. Had he been to clumsy this night? Did something happen? He checked himself for droplets of blood but he could not find anything, so he just stared at the person again.
He was literally watching that person's every movement and right when he was a few feet away from him Thurston stood up, because that way he would be taller and could defend himself better, if necessary.

Protective stance, Ackerley stood there, adrenaline washing in each of his veins, after each pulse of his heart. Even if the sun was most likely up, the trees blocked most of its light. Ackerley couldn't distinguish correctly what now stood in from of him. Therefore, being who he was, he decided to continue to walk toward it, slowly. The more he advanced and the more the shadow started to get clearer. It almost had a human form. Answer me! Who are you? What are you doing here? Ackerley's eyes adjusted to the dimmed light and he could see clearly now. A man, but not completely one. What was this creature? From as far as he remembered, the only thing that could fit would be a werewolf. Surely, none could be living in here?
Stopping his walking, Ackerley stood there, his wand ready for any case of misbehavior or trouble from the creature. This man was taller than him, he would have the advantage if something bad were to happen. Ackerley locked his eyes with his. Waiting, analyzing, but not moving anymore. He had asked a few questions and was waiting for answers which he hoped would come. Perhaps he was too much in an aggressive stance. realizing this, the man slowly brought down his wand and watched the man, which, by taking a clearer look, seemed younger. Well boy, what are you doing down here in the wood this early?

The young man stood in front of the other man, his back slightly hunched over. The pain from the transformation just a mere time earlier made his muscles ache and his joints crack. His eyes fixed on the dark haired man's face as he looked through his coppery colored bangs that clung to his face, greasy and slightly dreaded it fell down to his chin. The young werewolf let out a low growl, that should not be possible for a humane creature, daring the other to step closer. Right after his transformation back to human the young ginger was at his weakest and he was not a pleasant sight, which he knew, seeing his mirror image look back at him whenever he stared down into a sea or a pit of water. He looked dirty and the term filthy animal would fit no one better than himself and the young werewolf knew, he knew and yet his situation prevented him from doing anything about it.
He had not cared, he long forgot to care about appearance, what began to count for him was survival and to stay away from the people and the whole wizarding kind, hidden in the Forbidden Forest that usually the wizards were not supposed to enter. This person in front of him however did not seem to care that there were creatures living here that would love a bite of him for breakfast. Stupid, Thurston thought as he tried to straighten his posture, staggering a little while doing so. His wand bound to his wrist by a strand of fabric, so that it laid snuggly against his wrist; some kind of makeshift wand holster so that he would not lose the only link to the wizarding world while running through the forest.
He had ignored the man at first, he had no right of intruding his territory and asking him questions, but not wanting to anger the wizard- as the werewolf really could not deal with a fight right now - he decided to raise his voice for the first time in years.
”What does it look like, human?” he half growled, his voice being raspy by the lack of use.

Annoyment. This was not the exact reactions that he would have liked to receive. Therefore it would do. His pale blues eyes wandering over the younger man body for injuries or any sign of a fight, but nothing could prove this. In that sense, for now, he was not a threat. Sighing loudly, Ackerley started to walk closer to him, disturbing the pressing silence that had settled in just after the first words of the werewolf. The man did not have much knowledge of these creatures except the pieces of information he had received from his Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons. Which happened a long time ago. Even if he still was a unspeakable, it was not his field of expertise so he preferred to let those matters to Jennah Bluefort. After all, like she loved to ramble about it, she was to one who lived with one since she was young and she was the one who had the ''chance'' to study them. Ackerley tenses a little once he remembered this small detail. He was not in control of the situation, he could use charms, curses, and physically defenses himself against humans, but he had close to no clue against werewolves. He would then have to be cunning and avoid any conflict, not that it was truly his intention, but seeing the current events, he was not sure about the younger man behaviors. Ackerley's mouth opened slightly before he rushed his left hand to his raven hair. ''It currently looks like you just had a rough night and is trying to regain your composure.'' Of course, it was something easy to deduce, a seer was not needed to see that after a full moon, a werewolf would need time to regain control of his body and to go on with his life. At least, it was something he knew.
The professor returned his wand in his robe and exposed his hand in front of him, trying to look natural to avoid alerting the younger. He was still not defenseless as he had been trained to wandless magic, but that was a detail nobody would know upon seeing each other in the first meeting. After all, he would not trust someone this easily after the few words they had exchanged if it could even be referred to as a conversation at this point. Again, the man sighed before giving a hand to the boy. ''Alright it is hopeless to stay here, let me help you.'' Either the boy would take his hand or not, but he would not let this one here, all alone in the forest. He was not known for his cruelty. The man also fell the needs to add simple information, something to help him gain the trust of the werewolf. ''My name is Ackerley, by the way.'' And just like that, just has it had come, the man turned around and walked a little further while looking up, to see the trees and a few birds that happened to be there in that moment. He would wait for the boy.

The young man with the russet red hair, stared ahead, to the dark haired man in front of him. The possible threat that could kill him with ease if he showed any sign of weakness; a sign of weakness the young man could not allow himself. Never. They would use it against him, force him into submission and tracking his every step. The young man could not allow that, if he would it meant his end. The black haired, pale man could be his end and no matter how weak he was, he could not show it.
rough night…
Thurston could not help but snort. A small sound that showed his distaste in the humans choice of word. A sound that hurt in his throat, but the young man kept his face straight, not allowing it to scrunch up at the unpleasant feeling that. the snort left behind. It feels worse than having a cough, it felt like swallowing daggers. For years he only used his voice to imitate the sounds of a predator, spending most time in his animagus form. Once in it he could not find a way back. He changed by luck but the full moon always brought him back. Reminding him of what he truly was, that he did not belong here. But if he would leave the forest they would show him that he did not belonged with them either. That he was all alone and that this was perfect.
No one who would be able to hurt him. No one able to judge him by facts but most importantly there was no one who could get hurt because of him.
The young man knew his mind was messed up, or did he? Did he truly know how far his issues reached, raking through him like roots through the ground, anchoring his doubts and fears. The young man found it hilarious, that man, this stranger thought to know him? After seeing him for what, a second? He knew nothing. Rough night? Was he joking? He went through hell and survived; he could survive this too. He had to and if it came to an end he could still flee. He wasn't to hurt him, he could not or he would have to face prison. No matter how unimportant he was nowadays, the Ministry would hunt him down.
When the stranger extended a hand into his general direction, the young man bared his teeth in a snarl. His right hand flew to his left wrist, retrieving the wand from its fabric holster, before pointing it at the unarmed man who had been stupid enough to pocket his own weapon. But Thurston wasn't one to fight, especially not in such a condition. The grip on the wand tightened until his knuckles turned white but still his grip seemed to slip. His hand shaking as he stared at the man, Ackerley, who had moved away, showing him his back. Pathetic, doesn't he know better than to show his back to someone he doesn't know? Or did he thought Thurston was too weak?
He could simply kill him now. He could, it would be simple. One spell, just one. But he couldn't. His hand was shaking and his mind was all over the place. He wanted to scream, to run and flee. He wanted to be far away from humans but he also longed for acceptance.
With a last trembled his hand dropped to his side, the wand loosely held between his fingers as a wave of emotion collided within Thurston. He felt like drowning and suffocating, as his gaze fixed on the man's hand that was still outstretched, tempting him to trust.
Would he be able to trust him? His instincts screamed against him, pushing him away while his mind drew him closer and after standing there for what felt like eternity, the young man took a step forward and then another one.
Walking would stretch the long healed gashes of a wolf that had tried to kill him in and attempt to save him. A werewolf that indeed took wolfsbane but had lost control for only a second. A second that changed Thurston's life for eternity. In an attempt to redeem its fault and guilt the werewolf had tried to kill him afterwards, but Thurston survived and in the end did not regret that he survived. Still the scars stretched over his lower neck and collar bone, while a necklace wrapped around the young man's neck. It was not meant to look pretty, it was meant to give him a memory, so that he would never forget. A reminder of the beast that had changed his life in ways he could have never imagined.
Small rustling of leaves under his bare feet would alert the black haired man if he was paying attention, as Thurston tentatively took a step into his direction.
”Why should I trust you?” he would ask, his tone rough, his sound defensive.

It seemed as this day would be quite interesting. The man was still turning his back toward the werewolf while he took a deep breath. After all, the weather was incredibly warm and comfortable. Somehow, it was a perfect day for a walk and so that was his reason to venture himself into the Forbidden forest at such an early hour. Therefore, he had not guessed he would find this young man, or werewolf in that case. Ackerley had been gifted since his childhood with a really developed sense of his surrounding, but especially a sense of detail. That explained why he had been able to notice the state of this young man and believed he was in distresses. At least, it was what the former unspeakable was thinking while his ears noticed a movement from the young man behind him. Ackerley was not a fool, and he would never turn down his defenses, but he would not mention this. He would have been ready if the boy had tried to use a spell against him, but somehow, he truly believed that he would not. It was why, when he heard him take a step toward him and speak, he decided to keep his back turned to the stranger and simply grin. ''You have absolutely no reason to trust me. However, I am asking you to believe that I will not do anything to harm you. I would gain nothing from doing so, and I am not someone to hurt another senselessly.''
The wind blew on his face before he slowly turned around to face the young man. It was the second time that he had the chance to look at him properly. His clothes were ripped and a huge scar was visible on his neck. Ackerley wondered how he managed to get it. By instinct, he brought his arm to his own neck, massaging the same area while thinking. He still did not know his name, nor anything information that would allow him to figure out who he was and why he was here, but this could wait. For now, he needed to gain his trust in order to be able to help him the best he could. Perhaps bringing him into his office and finding something to eat would be a great start, he thought. Following this trail, his pale eyes stared into the young man ones. ''I am currently a professor at Hogwarts, if you would allow me, I would take you inside, and help you. You would be safer there I can assure you.'' Ackerley smiled, a fond smile that reached his eyes and he slowly took a step forward, trying to be as careful as he could not to scare the boy. It was at that moment that he decided to show him his hand again. He would try until he managed to briefly open the young man defenses, just enough to provide him with the help he needed. Perhaps, he would also give him some new clothes.

The young werewolf stared at the man's back, calculating his every move. Thurston would not even blink sometimes, afraid that right in that moment he would give his opponent the perfect opportunity to catch him off guard. He would just stand there now, his wand still held between his thumb and pointer finger, ready to be raised if he should have to defend himself. While his magic was rusty and his knowledge of spells was limited by the five years he visited Hogwarts, he could still defend himself; better than with the condition his body was in currently. Magic would bring him further in this fight than his body could at this point and it would be too reckless to start a fight with someone like the taller man. He would be missed so Thurston could not rely on his instincts, he could not just attack him because they would notice and they would find him.
Thurston never got himself registered in the Ministry, so should he be found they would ship him off to Askaban without batting an eyelash. He would be dead meat. This whole scenario promised danger. However if he would not go with that man he also might notify the Ministry about a werewolf close to the school grounds. No matter what he did, the safest way for him and the way he would most likely survive the easiest would be to accompany the stranger and to flee when the other was expecting it the least. If he was lucky enough the man was under-educated enough to leave him be.
But the other was right in one point. The werewolf had no reason to trust the man, none at all. He could be a hunter or worse. Thurston narrowed his eyes warily, the ember in his eyes looking slightly dull as he knew nothing but the serious life he had to survive in the Forest. It was not easy and it never was…. If anything it had been more difficult back when he was younger and inexperienced. He came from a rich family and it was a long fall before he crashed down and ended up without a place he could call his. This had always been weird for the young werewolf, even now and alone the thought of his parents made his face go blank. He had no emotions for them, no tears. He had lost that ability one week after he had to fight on his own. Tears led to nothing but attention and he did not want their pathetic glances. He did not want to see them usher hushed whispers behind held up hands. No one had helped him when he walked barefooted over the sidewalk or asked for some spare pennies, so the young boy learned to provide for himself. He learned how to hunt or how to build traps to place them in the forest, but he was always careful for what he hunted. He never would take away a mother turning an animal into a runt. Hunting became easier when he found himself trapped in his animagus form, at least after he figured out how he had to move around and how to survive.
But then he blinked for one second, before fixing his eyes on the male again. If he had no gain through all this, why would he do all this? Going as far as offering a stray a place to go to. This seemed surreal and weird to the young werewolf. It must be a trap but then again did he truly have a say in all this? It was smart to tag along, it would be easier to survive and living in the castle was the best way to hide away from the Ministry. It usually kept away from the old castle as much as they could, while they often had to interrogate someone in the Forest. He was not the only werewolf that lived there or creature that's it; but he was one of the few rogues that walked without pack. Thurston never planned to belong to a pack as he had too much pride to start as an omega and too little trust to rely on others. But still some attacked humans so the Ministry liked to pay the Forest a visit now or then during which Thurston had to hide from their profit greedy paws.
Again the young man wondered why he should trust the other man who looked nothing but confident in what he was doing. He wanted to say something to respond to Ackerley, at least that was how he had introduced himself, but but noticed a movement in his peripheral vision; the man had extended his hand once again making the werewolf tense up slightly. With a cold look he hid his dirt covered hands behind his back and stared the man into the eyes, having to raise his chin a bit to do so.
”Do not touch me. Lead the way-”
The young man did not want skin contact, he was nervous. For years no one had been that close to him; for years he had not been close to anyone and the thought of someone breaking him out of his familiar environment let panic rise in the ginger haired man. Was the man safe? He wondered but he could not know and he told himself to never forget that. If his family was able to abandon him so was the rest of the world. It would be even easier for them they would not have any pride to lose in kicking out a damn stray.
”What do you teach?”

In the back of his mind, Ackerley Blackburn decided to memorize the information. The red hair man preferred to avoid skin contact. If he wanted to help him, it would be preferable to avoid triggering him. Sighing loudly while bringing his left hand to his hair, the older man thought to himself that this was indeed a peculiar individual. He also wondered how he would be able to hide him from the headmaster at least if the boy wanted to stay after fixing himself up. Perhaps he preferred the wild living style? It could have been an option, but upon taking a better look at the younger male, he could tell something was not fitting with this. Regardless of the anxiety feeling that started to rush through his system, he remembered that he was not alone. Blackburn turned his vision toward the younger man and smiled before simply giving him an ''alright''. It was the best he could do right now and just like that, he started to walk back to the castle with the werewolf. ''I am currently teaching charms, but my specialty lies in the field of curses and dark artifacts.'' He could always add more information if the curious boy decided to start speaking more freely, but for now, he would try to do the talking. It was not his cup of tea, but he would still try to gain his trust. It was strange how he truly wanted it. Even if he had met the boy twenty minutes ago. He reminded him of an old friend he met in Beauxbaton.
Both men were still far inside the forest. The trees were thicker than those that were standing proudly at the entrance. Aside from this, the forest seemed alive. True was told, from a scientific view, yes the forest was indeed alive in its own way, but this one had something magical into it. It was probably because of the number of magical creatures, dangerous or not, that are living in it. On the ground, leaves, and branch were laying down, defeated, perhaps due to some breeze of wind that cut them through. This scenery reminded him of Europe. He loved reading French literature, secretly, he had also brought some distinguishing arts with him. Amount them, Les Fleurs du mal from Charles Baudelaire. Poetry was similar to performing a charm, or a curse, mostly any type of spell. To success, one always needed creativity which was the main quality observed in poetry.
Blinking a few time, Blackburn returned to reality. He had traveled into his mind for a while now. Carefully observing the other man, he decided to engaged a real conversation and to try to learn a crucial piece of information. The name of his new ''walking compagnon''. It would certainly be easier to call him by a name than by his nature. Fixing the red hair man, he opened his mouth to speak, a few wrinkled appearing around his eyes while doing so. ''You look like you are in your early twenties if I am not misunderstanding anything. Would you happen to have also attempted Hogwarts?'' He waited a few seconds before sending a new question toward the boy. ''Also, would you care to tell me your name?''
