Miles Candar | First Year | Ravenclaw

Connor Candar is from Pure Blood family and has had many generations of respected wizards that have also had a few professors and half decent Quidditch players. Over the course of his education at Hogwarts, he became close friends with Harold Lyke and Felicity Draken who later became close Aunt and Uncle to Miles. Those three were quiet the handful for some teachers at the time, specially since it seemed that Felicity would constantly push the boundaries to what they could get away with. As many students have said after attending Hogwarts, it became a home and after 7 years they barely could recognize the adults they were turning into. When it came to choosing careers, Felicity chose to go down the Auror route which probably suited her adventurous temperament. However, both Harold and Connor decided on helping out with the proper education of young wizards in joining the Department of Underage Magic.

Maria Cardara, was a Lawyer in the local Durham area and came from a rather prosperous Muggle family that has worked its way up over the ages. What made Maria slightly different from her family was both that she was the third child and that she didn't approve of her families lack of respect for those underneath their station. Over the course of her early education, she knew that she wouldn't really inherit a lot of the wealth that her family had accumulated and that it would go to her two older siblings Derek and Jennifer Cardara. She had zero qualms about them getting their share and it really didn't bother her truth be told. Derek and herself got along rather well and were always close and that might be from protecting her as being the older brother. The same cannot be said of Jennifer and herself because both their temperaments opposed each other and clashed alot of the times. Her family did provide for her education and she was really grateful that they could provide for her to attend Law School. Maria worked her rear off in her education and after she passed the Bar, she told her parents that she would want to make it on her own from that point forward.

It would be a few years before the unanticipated event that both Connor Candar and Maria Cardara worlds would collide. There was stormy night where lightning and rain pelted the streets in Durham and their was Maria in her second floor study sitting at her desk facing the street below. Her desk sat be the windowsill so that she could see the changing of the days and nights while she studied on her cases and was struggling through a swamp of papers. She was only an intern at a moderate law firm and going through the daily grind with her sanity.

There was a sudden explosion across the street a few houses down from where her view was. Maria was startled by the sudden noise and seen a few houses turn on their lights and she rushed for her coat and umbrella. There was a chance at injuries and it was probably either a gas leak or a fault that caused the explosion. As she and a few others rushed out to see if she could help at all, she ran across a few figures there that looked out of place.

Harold and Connor were in the process of apprehending a young 13 year old boy that has repeatedly went against the law against the use of underage magic. They had no choice really to take him in because it was too dangerous for muggles and themselves if they repeatedly were exposed to magic. While Harold was inside talking to the parents, Connor had the job of repairing the side of the house with his want illuminated to help him see through the darkness and the rain. Over the course of helping out with the house, he was oblivious to the watching eyes of Maria staring at what he was doing.

Connor stopped working and slowly turned to face Maria and he was speechless at the wet yet beautiful figure of the woman staring back at him. His first thought was, "great, now i have another persons memory to alter." There was something that stopped him and even he knew Harold would be upset but he didn't share with him what happened till much later. Long story short, those two young people got to talking about a few days later after Connor learned of her address and eventually ended up getting married.

Miles grew up in a loving household and found out a few surprising things about his parents along the way. A big topic that was avoided for the most part was Maria's side of the family in that his grandparents didn't approve of their daughters choice of suitor. It was common knowledge that his Mother and Father didn't talk alot about them, but strangely his Uncle Derek was really the only one that they got along with. His uncle didn't know exactly how his mother could be attracted to this man, but he knew something was underneath the surface. Also what is most important to Mile's memories was the sweets that he would smother him with behind his mother's back and took him to some football games.

When Connor and Maria decided to get married, only then did Connor decide to tell his wife what kind of world that she got herself into. It wasn't as much of a shock the first night that they had met, but she did find out there there was more to the wizarding world that she gave credence to and that there was a powerful reason it was kept secret even today. Miles grew up with both worlds and through the first eight years of Miles life, he lived like a normal child and to later find out that it was a compromise from both his parents. They wanted him to grow up away from magic so that he could make friends and only tell him when he was old enough to make sense of what was going to change his life.

Keeping that promise became harder and harder through the years for there were incidents along the way that made it hard for his parents to keep things from their son. One evening when Miles was six, his Aunt Felicity came by for a visit looking a little disheveled and haggard. Even though her appearance was downtrodden, there was always this light in her eyes of mischief and excitement. The family was gathered along with his mother, father, and Uncle Harold. They seemed to be in a serious discussion about something so Miles walked over and tugged on his aunt's Denim Jacket and Miles became aware that she was very sad about something. To cheer her up, he thought she would look a whole lot better if her air was a bright blue and that was when Mile's first act of magic happened. Aunt Felicity didn't react and was playing with Miles and had him on her lap when there was a shocked silence from the other grown ups. Later on his father would tell Miles that it was a great day for all of them.

It took many years, but his mother was getting acclimated to the wizarding lifestyle and even though it was different and sometimes hard to understand, her passion for knowledge outweighed everything else. That is probably where Miles passion for knowledge came from, because to his father magic was apart of his everyday life since he was born. His mother had to learn a lot from books and his father. Even though it was probably against the rules, Connor did give Maria books about magic that their son would be studying... it was a fat chance that he could really stop her.

At the age of nine, the decision finally came to tell their son that he was a wizard and that in a few years time he would be learning magic with other young boys and girls his age. It was a shock to Miles, because for the longest time he had just thought of himself as normal though there were occasionally things that happened that he couldn't really explain. There were some bullies at his school and a few times their shoelaces would magically be tied together so he could get away or even the time that he unlocked his locker from the inside when he was pushed into it. To be completely honest, he wouldn't miss that part of school he had been apart of but he would still miss his friends Peter and Daniel. They were the closest friends he had and knowing that they would be left behind in a few years was hard to take, but having the notice in advance actually helped him cope during that time.

There were a few surprises over the last few years since finding out that he would be attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. One afternoon when he was out in the country away from any signs of civilization, his parents came out for his father to give him his first broom lessons. While his father was never an exceptional flyer, he did play for the Ravenclaw team in his hayday as a beater. Miles soared around and around his father and found out that even though he may not have been the quickest, he was very agile in the air. Maria had a mixture of anxiety and laughter at her husbands expression when he couldn't catch Miles. Both Miles and Maria drank up the magic in those last few years. If his mother was being honest, it was a strain at her job now that she was a junior partner in her lawfirm. Though it seemed that being with her son and learning some of the basic stuff that his son will need to know bonded them closer than his father thought possible.

It should be mentioned that Connors side of the family was a lot more accommodating to their son's choice in wife then Maria's family was. Even though they were rather upset at the time that their son choose a muggle for a wife, they were pleasantly surprised through time about how much Maria wanted Miles grandparents to be apart of their son's life. They were also very happy to find out that Miles did inherit the gray eyes that seemed to run in the male half of the family and that they were always showing off a little bit when it came to magic. Over time they accepted Maria wholeheartedly and welcomed her to the Candar family with no reservations which turned out to be a rarity when it came to pure blood families. The week finally came when Miles will face his trip to Hogwarts and all the adventures would soon begin.
