It was late, very late. The slytherin common room was dark, Quinn fumbled around it, She was wearing her pajamas they where gray with rainbow dots on them. In her right hand she held her stuffed animal. It was a pale blue unicorn. She was trying not to make any noise, In hopes that she wouldn't wake anyone up. If they did they would find her sneaking out of the common room. Quinn couldn't sleep that night, she had a lot on her mind.
It had been a couple days since Colin had told her and her other friend Charlie that he was a werewolf, Quinn knew that she had to tell him, and Charlie about her being a Metamorphmagus.
She knew that she was close to the exit of the dark room. When she bumped something, it could have been a chair. Whatever it was it made noise when she hit it. In a small panic she looked behind her to see if anyone was coming out of the dorms, When she was satisfied she moved much more carefully then before.
When she was finally out of the common room she couldn't stop to take a breath, she needed to move fast and quiet. Quinn sneaked around the Castle, being as careful as she could. If a professor fought her she would definitely end up in detention. When she made it to the grounds she could finally breath. Now she could move around and take a walk, To try and think on how to tell her friends.

Sneaking out
May 27th ⎯ 12:04am
Like most nights, Georgiana wasn't sleeping. Perhaps what kept her awake was being part of the Narcissa Malfoy dorm, after all one got used to being alert. Or maybe she was excited because soon she would be back at her house, riding her broom and using Nox to play pranks on her sister. Although the most probable answer would be that George had higher priorities on her mind than sleep. It did not matter.
The fact is that she was sitting on her bed, with the canopy curtains half closed, to have some privacy and pay attention to her environment at the same time. She had lit the chandelier on her nightstand with the Illumos charm, and with her enchanted pen and notebook she was writing. This time it wasn't any specific story, just writing exercises, but they kept her absorbed.
Suddenly, a noise similar to a hit made her look up from her work. George parted the canopy curtain on her bed a little wider and stuck her head out. She scanned the dormitory, her roommate was asleep. The sound must have come from the Common Room. Yes, someone must have bumped into something. And that meant...
A cocky half smile spread across her face as a mischievous gleam crossed her eyes. It seemed that someone was breaking the rules.
"Illumos!" Gia whispered at the chandelier, and the light instantly went out.
Quickly getting used to the dark, George closed her notebook and set it and her pen down on the nightstand. Then she gingerly rose from the bed, pulling on her black boots, and with the stealth of a snake she made her way down the stairs to the Common Room, in time to see a figure disappear behind the door. It was official, someone was up to something. And she wasn't going to miss something like that.
George waited a few seconds before following the offender, then hurried after them. She followed the person through the corridors, being very careful to stay hidden by the shadows, keeping close to the wall and making as little noise as possible so as not to alert the portraits. She finally walked out of the castle, and despite the darkness, in the moonlight she could clearly make out the girl's face. Recognizing her didn't take long; Quinn was from her same year, and she also slept in one of the Malfoy bedrooms.
George frowned. What was she doing? She knew that she was reckless and that she had done some pranks... but what was the reason for her to be out of school? What kind of mischief required her to go out in the middle of the night to walk the grounds? Watching Quinn's face Gia decided that she looked like thoughtful person better than a prankster. She didn't seem to be up to anything fun. This disappointed George a little, but it also increased her curiosity.
She approached Quinn, stealthy but not hidden, walking softly at a brisk pace into the warm night.
"What you up to, Root?" Gia murmured as she reached the girl.

Two weeks. Around two weeks ago Opeila had been given the role of a prefect, to her own great surprise. The third year had encountered all kind of situations in her time at the school and caused quite a bit of trouble herself, so, although she had made an effort to be better, she had not expected... well, this. This proof of trust. Truly, Opeila felt honored, the feeling of pride had not let go of her again for days.
One thing the young Slytherin had not thought of immediately when she accepted the offer, were patrols. At night. Through a castle that at least once was a home to all kind of monsters, monsters that had cursed her and made her almost certain that she would die for two years. Now she was meant to be a sort of guardian, walk around at night and protect other children? It seemed a bit surreal.
To be fair, Opeila was no longer the reckless child she once was in her first year, the one that let shady upperclassmen into her common room, only to find herself as well as the rest of her house attacked by darkmagical spiders, but at first she had been very nervous. Nighttime was the time for her to be in her dorm, safely, protected. But not now. Now it was on her to see to it that others were.
In her first days, it had been quiet, very quiet. In fact, Opeila had begun to enjoy her patrols and view them as the privilege to go on walks at night. Chat with friends, as there were a few of hers that were prefects too. The patrols on the grounds and the Quidditch training pitch were particularly nice, the fresh air cleared her mind and really seemed to cleanse her of the stress of the day.
Tonight, something was different, but it wasn't Opeila who noticed it. It was Loras, her little four-legged companion who suddenly dashed off into the darkness, barely visible in the grass. The third year illuminated her wand and tried to find her cat, but froze soon when the wind carried a noise to her- the faint sound of voices. Young voices.
Opeila gave up her search immediately, suddenly very sure where she would find her cat. There was only hoping that he wouldn't alert the rulebreakers before she could get to them.
It didn't take her long to find the two kids who were quite a bit younger than her by the looks of them. Whatever their age was, they were certainly no prefects, but they weren't entirely unfamiliar either. Opeila had a few faint memories of passing them in the corridors or seeing them around the common room, as it was almost unavoidable when living in the same house for almost a year.
Opeila approached them from behind, making as little noise as she could. Only when she was quite close behind them, she cleared her throat. "Good evening. Or rather... soon midnight.", she corrected herself, holding her left arm where she wore a watch up, so the moonlight helped her see the time more clearly. "Now, if you would be so kind to explain to me, what unfortunate coincidences have led to you being here at this time? After being here for at least almost a year, I find it hard to believe that you two don't know the curfew rules."
With an expression of polite curiosity, she looked from one child to the other.
OOC: Congrats! You two are my first rule breaker catch in my short time as a prefect XD
First things first- Please know that you are in no trouble whatsoever out of character. In character however you have broken a school rule and were now caught by a prefect. Depending on your answers, this might result in a detention or not (Considering the circumstances, it is unlikely that you get out of this, but feel free to try! XD).

Quinn was walking around the grounds thinking of how she would tell Colin and Charlie. That was until she heard someone ask her what she was doing out. Quinn had almost jumped out of her skin, she did drop her stuffed animal eagle. She immediately god down blindly looking for her toy. "I was going for a walk, couldn't sleep.... I have a lot on my mind right now" She told the person. Based on the voice the person who had found her was a girl.
Quinn heart was pounding, 'What if she turns me in? Or worse what if her coming over to me caught the attention of a prefect?!' Quinn thought. Quinn had found her stuffed animal. When she did she gave out a sigh of relief. She stood up to face the girl. Quinn had seen her around, she was also a slytherin. 'I must have woken her up when I ran into that chair..' Quinn thought.
"Why are you out here?" Quinn asked. Soon she heard someone speak, another girl. She said good evening and then said that it was almost midnight. For the second time that night she was scared. Unlike last time she didn't drop her stuffed animal. Instead she threw it at the new person. Who had just asked for a good reason why they where out. Quinn then made the realization.
'No! Shes a prefect! And I just tossed eagle at her...' she thought. She immediately went and faced her. She was a slytherin perfect. "I am so sorry! I just couldn't sleep and went out for a walk." Quinn told her, she then looked at the other girl, who she now recognized as George Rees.

George opened her mouth to reply to Quinn when she heard a female voice behind her.
Good evening. Or rather... soon midnight."
Gia's heart stopped for a moment, but the only thing that could be seen externally was the girl giving up trying to speak and closing her mouth. She turned to the girl, to be met by the gleaming prefect's insignia. She didn't flinch at the discovery though, she had suspected it upon hearing the girl's words.
She used the time it took Quinn and the prefect to talk to come up with a lie that was believable, at least to a minimum. Was there a chance that the girl would take her to detention anyways? Yes, around 85%, but it cost her nothing to try. It was time to harness her innate abilities, no matter if Quinn got mad afterwards. Saving her neck was her top priority right now.
"I came to tell her to come back." she said, not precisely nervous. "I was awake and I heard a noise from the Common Room, so I went down and saw someone going out. I know that's not allowed after court few, so I followed her. I went over to tell her she would get in trouble... and here you are."
She spoke as she normally did. Time had taught her that the best way to lie was using as many truths as possible.

As troublesome as Opeila had been during her first years at Hogwarts, breaking curfew (or... being caught doing so) did not make it on her list of offenses, so this situation was truly a first to the Slytherin. She had never been witness to such a conversation, nor had she been part of one herself. In truth, she felt rather weird being about to reprimand the two children in front of her, while the role of troublemaker was familiar to Opeila as well.
But curfew breaking was something Opeila had done once, maybe twice and not dared to do again once the terrifying nightlife of Hogwarts had turned on her house more than once. The safety of her dormitory was preferable for sure.
The two first years in front of her couldn't know any of this apart from maybe scary stories told by upperclassmen and it made Opeila feel only more responsible. Those were kids from her own house, that did actually make her responsible, right? Prefects were meant to be students that others could come to, who were a connection between students and teachers, right?
In Opeila's elementary school in Cambridge, every class had two spokespeople, usually one girl and one boy, who were supposed to listen to their classmates' ideas and concerns and who answered directly to the class tutor. However, as could be expected from a school with kids whose ages varied from 5 to 11, this was barely more than a popularity vote, so starting in year 3, Opeila never stood a chance. Only in year 2 she was picked once and she had almost no memory of it.
Not to mention that it had been a job of a few hours a day, no threats to her life, no night shifts. This was something entirely different, Opeila was a lot older than back then and mature enough to know that she had to take this more seriously than then.
And having been witness to people getting caught breaking other rules before, Opeila could have- should have- been prepared for what might come, but she wasn't. One of the kids spun around at her voice and threw something at her.

Opeila raised her hands in an instinctive attempt to catch the stuffed animal, but the wand she was still holding as well as the darkness made it more difficult than she thought. The result? The stuffed animal hit her right in the face, making her wince. Dumbfounded she stared at the child for a second, blinking a few times to get rid of the unpleasant feeling of fake fur in her eyes, then she bent down to pick the toy up. A stuffed unicorn. Really?
The first year seemed just as shocked about her actions as Opeila and immediately started to apologize and explain herself. "Well, fine don't worry. Not about this.", she quickly added, holding up the stuffed animal. The third year had the feeling that there was a good chance she would hand out her first ever detention today. Still holding on to the stuffed animal- she had no intention on giving it back yet- she looked at the kid who said that she went on a walk because she couldn't sleep.
"I see. The thing is curfew is a rule and not a suggestion for a reason. Not being able to sleep is no sufficient excuse for either of you to be out here at this time at night, in fact you are distracting me from the job I am supposed to do, a necessary job. Has no one told you that there have been several attacks on students at night over the last years? Are you aware how close you are to the Forbidden Forest right now?" Opeila paused, giving her words a chance to sink in. Perhaps they would give the children just the kind of fright they needed to stay in bed in the future.
"They have not happened in a while, but this does not mean that it can't happen again, which is why we are patrolling the castle and the grounds. Now I will have to leave my post here to escort the two of you back to our common room, which might result in all three of us having some explaining to do when Professor Jensen notices it." Yes, maybe she was being a bit pessimistic here, but it wasn't a lie really.
The other girl who had been rather silent so far now spoke up, explaining her presence outside and it was an argument that Opeila could understand. Hadn't she stayed outside before too when a younger student refused to get to the common room before curfew? It would be terribly hypocritical of her to reprimand this child of this, besides, if this was true, it was a commendable personality train that she cared so much for her fellow housemates.
"Is this true?" Opeila looked at both. If it was, well... maybe things would go a little differently than she thought. "Well, whether it is true or not, you two are in your first year in this castle and although it is almost the end of the year and you have learned certain defense spells, neither of you are prepared to protect yourselves should something happen. If a classmate sneaks out and there is no prefect or Professor Jensen around, at least alert an older student." Opeila knew if she would ever find kids outside for the reason of protecting another, those kids would not be punished, not by her.

Surprise due to Opeila's words almost made George's façade completely crumble down. She had to make a very conscious effort not to look at her with a funny face, or raise her eyebrows, or widen her eyes like plates. Had she really believed her? It took her more than a second to process it, but finally her pride managed to incorporate it.
Of course she had bought it, what was it that seemed strange to her? Gia was the best liar in first year (maybe the whole basic cycle) and she was fully aware of it.
The prefect's last words made her question if she wouldn't end up punished after all. But she didn't believe it, it sounded more like a warning, maybe even a recommendation. Well, in that case George had nothing to worry about.
Wait– except for Quinn. If it occurred to her to say she was lying.... But there was really no reason to believe that, was there? No, of course there wasn't. Quinn couldn't really know why she had left the Common Room, Opeila had interrupted them before she could tell her anything. Unless the first year thought she knew Gia well enough, because let's be honest, Rees did have something of an outlaw reputation, at least within her dormmates. And if Quinn said that George hadn't come to warn her about anything, would Opeila believe her or would she give more weight to the accused's words? She didn't know, couldn't be sure of that. She repressed her urge to sigh and instead directed a sort of relieved half-smile at the prefect, and a slow nod of her head, as if she wasn't really worried about anything at all. «God, please don't let Root think she knows better...»
