A Charming Encounter
Alan had been nearly late and for the first charms lesson that's it. So that would have been an unforgivable move, when he wanted that O at the end of the year and he really craved it, because he imagined it as being a very fun subject. He could still remember how he was listening to his mother explaining him how they made things fly around in a room and the levitated his very own teddy bear infront of his eyes, when he was barely five. He still had it in memory since it was the first time he really understood the meaning of magic, after an accidental burst of magic, that had make the hair of people in his surrounding stick up in every direction, when he didn't get the chocolate frog he so wanted to have from that store - he had been such a nice child.
On his way to charms he had nearly gone lost as a staircase decided to funnily change its directions so that he would have to find another way to the third floor. He still made it in time, though a lot of students had already found a seat. Without many thoughts Alan went straight for one of the rows more in the middle and sat down next to a boy with a badger and yellow details sewed on his plain black robe, a Hufflepuff couldn't be a bad choice, so he gave the grey haired boy a small, somewhat nervous smile, before he leaned down to his bag and pulled out a beautiful green quill and a bottle filled with nearly black, but still dark blue ink, that he placed with a small clunk onto the table, which surely had seen some decades, which had an odd charm to it. After placing the ink and the beautiful feather onto the desk, he leaned down once again to get out his folder where he kept his parchment, so that they won't get crumpled or get stains by whatever unwanted dirt on an else perfectly white paper.
Finally seated and organized, he turned his head to the left, with a small smile, to once again look at the boy next to him. He seemed around his height and stature, being small and more the thin type, while still not being scrawny - yet delicate figures and and pale like himself. The boy next to him had some beautiful hair, that had some nice fluff to it, but what was the most surprising, was that colour of said hair. It had some nice light grey, kinda like that of a mouse, which made him nearly burst out in giggles, it looked adorable as he instantly imagined the boy infront of him with two roundly formed ears, that poked out from his fluffy hair and wiggled nervously.
The thought and mental imagine made his natural anxiety around other, especially new people finally calm down as he nervously tugged a strand of his light blond hair behind his ear, that had fallen infront of his eyes at some point while he had been running to get to the class in time.
He took a last shaky breath, letting it out between his pale pink lips and tried to look calm, which was even more difficult.
"Hey, I'm Alan" he started with his cheery voice, that sounded like a small melody. To not make his attempt empty and without any real reason, he wanted to add another thing to his words.
At least he seemed to have his attention now, or he kinda hoped it was being that. It would be kinda embarrassing to try a conversation without being noticed by the person he tried to talk with. He bit his lip nervously, chewing on it for one or two seconds, before he took his courage to finally add the second part to his introduction.
"I hope you won't mind me sitting next to you, right? You are a Hufflepuff, aren't you?" He asked and wanted to hit himself. That were two questions at the same time and one of them was obvious already, considering the boy was wearing the Hufflepuff school robes, while his own had a nice Gryffindor emblem sewed to them, that was visible on the left side of his robe right above his chest. The details of his robes where in a nice red, that left no question in which house he got sorted. He got nervous, because maybe the boy next to him would think weird of him now. He hoped that was not the case though, as he really hoped for them to get friends, maybe even best friends. He was wondering what the others boy name was, while slowly getting lost in thoughts. That happened easily since his patience span was rather short and so was it the same with his attention. But it took merely a few seconds for Alan Vanes to snap out of his thoughts, as they continued to rush through his skull and concentrate on the matter, that he wanted to get to know and befriend that grey haired boy, with the clear blue eyes.
Alan put his hands into his lap, fidgeting nervously as he waited for the Hufflepuff to give his answer to him or even giving him some attention at all. He opened and clenched his hands to fists or just fidgeted in his chair, his green eyes basically glued to his seat neighbor. Hopefully he was a nice guy. Breath Alan he reprimanded himself as he could feel his breath hitch in anxiety, even though only a few seconds had passed since he had asked the other one a question. Well.... Basically two questions from which one already was answered by plain look. Alan felt himself flinch as the professor entered the room and went straight to his desk. They still had around five minutes though before the lesson would begin, so he turned his attention to his left side once again. The sound of the door against the frame was obviously what he had needed to snap out of his near anxiety attack and focus back on the important things like breathing and calming down, while still having all attention to the Hufflepuff.

A Charming Encounter
Marco didn't show up much before Alan, maybe by a few seconds or so, but he had snagged the first empty table he saw. He looked around nervously at the other students. They all seemed so confident that they could successfully do this class. Marco, it seemed, had the opposite reaction, almost certain that this would all go horribly wrong for him and everyone involved. Good thing he snagged an empty table, right? Wouldn't want another student to get caught in the crossfire of his mess ups. Marco was good at things that didn't require casting spells. He could work with potions and herbology, because those classes didn't require him using his voice most times. He could stay as quiet and clammed up as he wanted. But Charms? He had to use his voice. He's not good at speaking. He trips over his words and fails to pronounce things right. He doesn't expect to get a good grade in this class. He knows anything above an A would just be wishful thinking.
Nervously, he had produced his supplies. A leather bound notebook with some sort of symbol on the front, and the initials 'L.J' carved into the corners. It was a gift from Lyrell. A notebook enchanted to translate everything he writes into proper English. So if he were to write in Russian on one side of the page, it would translate into English on the other. This also allowed him to practice the language. Most of his notebooks were charmed like this. Lyrell worked really hard to make these for him. She also gave him a few of her own notes from when she took his classes in her years, though she couldn't guarantee that the lessons she learned would be the same as the ones he'd have to learn, but either way they'd definitely be helpful to him.
Anyways, along with his notebook, he produced a quill. The tip of the feather was red followed by a bit of gold, and then the rest were a mix between white and brown. It looked like something that would belong to a Gryffindoor. Because it does. Or at least, it did. It was another gift from Lyrell, which went along with some black ink that shined a gentle gold in the light. It was quite beautiful when written with. He had these all set up on his desk.
When suddenly, another presence was next to him. He seemed to jump a bit as the other sat down, looking to him with anxious blue eyes. It was a boy, who had a similar build to him. This boy laughed at Marco. Why? Did he look strange? Did he doe something wrong? He seemed to shrink a bit, pink pinching his cheeks. Did the other sit with him just to bully him? Ah... please don't let that be true.
Marco decided to look the other over, taking in a few small facts. He was a Gryffindor named Alan. His hair was a light blonde, and his eyes were green. He seemed pretty nice. Though, his anxiety flared a warning in the back of his head, which he tried to ignore as the other began to speak again.
"Mm... Marco. My name is Marco." He said in response to the other's name, offering a gentle smile. His original thoughts of the other seemed to change quickly, noticing the more nervous aura the other seemed to give off. Was the other boy just as nervous to speak to him as Marco was to talk to Alan? It seemed so. His smile grew a bit, hoping to help ease the other's anxiety. He knows how hard it is for himself to talk to others, and wouldn't wish that on anyone else. He can set aside his own anxiety to help the other feel better.
"I... do not mind. Yes, I am Hufflepuff" He answered the other's questions. His voice was thick with an accent, and even made a few words sound unlike how they should, but he tried. "It is nice to meet you." Soon though, his attention was brought to the professor who went to his desk and began speaking. He let his gaze slip away from Alan and to the professor, trying to focus on the lesson.
But this attention was hard to keep, as Alan's nervous aura just seemed to grow, encasing Marco in the feeling. What was wrong? He wanted to help. He needed to. It wouldn't be fair of him to just sit aside while Alan seemed to be slipping into an anxiety attack. He looked to the other, eyebrows giving a gentle furrow as his eyes reflected the concern he felt for the other. "You okay?" He asked in a hushed tone? "What is wrong?"
The clenching and relaxing of the other's fists, how much he fidgeted, the uneven breathing, eyes darting around the room. Marco easily recognized the signs of an anxiety attack. Without thinking much about it, he placed a gentle hand on the other's upper back, rubbing slowly and carefully. "H-hey, You are okay. Tap your wrist. Like this, see?" He removed his hand from the other's hand to take his index finger and middle finger tapping a little area above his wrist bone but below his thumb that had a little dip in it. "S-steady rhythm, yes? Count along tapping." He did the action as well as an example for the other. This area is a pressure point that relieves stress when tapped. This is how Marco personally relieved stress, and how many people with anxiety do. Many massage therapists would recommend this, and needle-therapists also use this pressure point while doing needle work as well.
When Marco was a child, he was stricken with a sickness, the same one that took the life of Marco's older brother when the poor sick boy was only eight (8) years old. It was terrifying, and when he was diagnosed with it as well, he was rushed to the hospital where he spent 2 (two) years stuck inside a small room. He was prone to anxiety attacks then, and often freaked out when around the doctors or nurses. When Lyrell visited and witnessed him reacting to being around them in such a way, she taught him this trick. It got him through those two years, and he has used it up to this day to help him remain calm.

A Charming Encounter
Alan was still panicking inwardly and it was clearly showing, since – especially when he was in panic mode – was bad at hiding whatever he was feeling. He was basically an open book for everyone. Sometimes even complete strangers could tell how he was feeling or what he was thinking about, because most of the time he had not the capability to not show anything. It just would take too much concentration of him, to hide those and he did not mind either. He had nothing to hide. The only times when he was good at hiding his plans and actions was, when he was planning a prank on someone. He just loved doing this even though his jokes were not always appreciated.
Sitting on the chair nervously with his hands grabbing at his plain black robes with the usual uniform under it. His clenched fingers caused the black fabric of his robe to tousle up a little bit, since it wrapped around his small child-like fingers. His nails were neatly clipped and his skin soft like silk, as he tend to care for hygiene a lot, at least for his own. He had a lot of bottles in his room with various cremes and other stuff to make his skin softer or make it smell more nicely. He really enjoyed using fruity shampoos too, which make his hair soft and easy to comb. Well it would make it hair more easily to comb, if he would actually comb it.
Alan noticed that when he laughed a bit about the image that his mind had produced, it kinda make the small boy in front of hims slightly uncomfortable. He could see him shrinking back in his seat, as if he was a small snail, that tried to hide in its small snail house, trying to hide himself, while there was nowhere he could hide. Also the boys cheeks turned slightly pink, which made Alan nervous. Did he was embarrassed to sit next to him? Was that the reason the boy was so uncomfortable? Maybe he did not want him sitting there? Maybe there was something wrong with Alan that made the other boy dislike him instantly, as if he had 'Idiot' written on his forehead.
No matter how much Alan tried to think of the reason, the boy in the seat next to him on the same table, his seat neighbor had, to not like him. Was it something he did? Was it because he sat down without asking beforehand? Now that he thought about it, that was quite rude of him. He should have asked! If that was the reason, he really should apologize to the greyish haired boy next to him.
When the boy, Marco, answered his questions, his eyes widened in surprise. It brought him out of his thought, letting him stare at Marco. Alan totally resembled a deer caught in the headlights at that moment. Totally surprised and frozen for a moment. Marco even smiled at him, which kinda crushed some of the anxiety he had felt. Maybe it was not that bad, maybe the other did not got a bad impression on him, because he rudely sat down without asking him, if he was even allowed to take a seat. Because maybe he had wanted to sit alone. Or even worse! Maybe he wanted to hold the place for a friend of his and if that friend would have appeared, Alan would already have two people disliking him, because of his stupidity!
But seeing this smile and getting talked to by the boy with the bright blue eyes, made him calm down slightly. He was still very nervous about all of this, but he was slightly calming down at least. He could say, that Marco was a very nice guy. He seemed a bit like himself and maybe that meant that the both of them could become friends someday. Working together with him in Charms was probably better, than sitting next to some bully or aggressive person that were unhappy with themselves which made them pick at others.
When Marco even told him, that he was not minding that Alan was sitting next to him, he could feel his shoulders relax and his fingers slowly unclenching. There was a tingling feeling as the blood got back into them, making him sight slightly. He really liked the others voice, the accent sounded really nice, even though he was not able to define from which country the accent was. He never met a russian person before and only heard the language a few times. Alan had a hard time understanding him, but he managed after only a few seconds.
He was suddenly distracted from his anxiety attack when Marco began to explain something to him, while rubbing his back in a gentle movement. It felt good, relaxing. His mind tried to focus on the others words, but wouldn't it be for the example he was given visually, he would have not been able to progress the information giving to him. He took a deep breath and began doing, what Marco was showing him. He gently tapped the explained pressure point in a slow, but steady rhythm, while trying to make himself calm down. It surprisingly really was working, making his eyes widen in disbelief. “That was like wandless magic...” whispered the boy after he was calm enough and was not shaking anymore. “Amazing...”
“Where did you learn to do such magic?” he asked, since he never had relief from an anxiety attack as quick as he had it now. It sometimes took him minutes, even hours to calm down, when it was very bad. But this time he calmed down in a matter of seconds, with just tapping his skin. It kinda was strange and amazing at the same time. He wished he would have known that magic trick before!
“Thank you!” he said more relaxed now, a smile tugging at his lips, letting his eyes shine slightly, as he finally relaxed until, he could breathe normally and keep his hands opened in a relaxed state. It was just in time too, since the professor announced the beginning of the lesson just at that moment.

A Charming Encounter
When the other referred to the actually not very unknown trick to relieving anxiety as 'wandless magic', he gave a gentle laugh. "Not everything need magic to solve, yeah?" He stated, but it sounded like a question. "Sometimes, simple everrryday things just as affect-affffective." He stumbled over that last word awkwardly, internally hitting himself over it.
"My сестра (sister) taught me while I was sick. She was Gryffindor too, but graduate already." He accidentally snuck a bit of Russian into his words, but hopefully, context proved helpful for Alan.
Marco had felt a small swell of pride in himself as the other seemed to praise him for such a small action. Truly, this small trick wasn't as big of a deal as Alan made it out to be, but it still felt nice to know that it helps the other so much. " пожалуйста! (your welcome!)" He said, his tone seeming a bit brighter but still hushed. Upon realizing his mistake of saying 'Your welcome' in Russian instead of proper English, he hurries to correct himself, seeming to trip over his words and find a loss of ways to say it correctly, so he quickly shuts his trap. At the same time though, the professor began their first lesson, Marco seeming thoroughly invested in it. Without much thought, most of the information went from his head to his hand and onto the paper. It was easy to see how little information it was, though, as he quickly seemed to get lost in the professor's words. He couldn't understand them, and mentally wished for them to slow down, but of course, that didn't work. He simply wrote what appeared on the board.
Nervously, he glanced at Alan from the corner of his eye, and then down at his paper. Had the other been getting all of this? Did he understand better? Ugh, only 20 minutes into the lesson and Marco's already knew he was absolutely going to fail this class. He doesn't understand. This inward struggle was written all over his face, furrowed brows and pierced lips. It as a stark contrast to how gentle his face usually looked.
At one point, Marco even gives up completely, setting his pencil down and sighing. He's frustrated with himself. He's able to catch onto most things easily, so why can't he just catch onto the language? How did Lyrell seem to do it so effortlessly, as if she's known the language her whole life? Did she ever struggle with it, or fail to understand? Did she ever seclude herself and become frustrated when she couldn't speak right? Surely, this couldn't be a situation where he was the only one that felt this way. He looked over what he had written, and then pulled out another book, the one Lyrell used when she was a first year. It seemed a bit worn from years of use, and when he opened it the first couple pages were just scribbles and little notes, probably from her friends in class, but once he flipped past those, it revealed Lyrell's slick handwriting. Once he read through some of them, he found that their notes were similar. A wave of relief washed over him knowing that Lyrell too struggled, which gave him a bit of hope. He'll grow into the language like she did, hopefully. It'll just take some time and some hard work. He nodded some, filling in the missing pieces of his notes from Lyrell's, seeming to catch back up quickly. Whatever he didn't understand from the teacher, he got from Lyrell's notes. She truly is a life saver. Who knows how crappily this could have gone if he didn't have her notes to help guide him? he can't guarantee this means he'll get an O, as there's still a lot of speaking barriers, but at least he'll be able to pass written assignments maybe an A or even an E if he's lucky.
A Charming Encounter
"That is probably true..." i mumbled the words, rubbing my neck with the back of my palm, a bit insecure. It was a bit stupid to assume, that everything that would work so fast would be solved by magic; quite hilarious actualll. That must be the pure-blood in me, that everything that worked like magic, would be magic. "It is kinda the magic of the body though, isn't it?" I tried to save myself from my mistake sheepishly. Warming up to Marco was quite easy for me, he just was so nice to me. He didn't knew me and still helped me out with ease, as if it was natural for him to help others. Which it probably was, he just was a nice guy.
When he told me, that he has a sister that had been into Gryffindor, he smiled slightly. "My das was Gryffindor too! But my mom went to Slytherin, they betted on which house I got and sent me an owl at how proud they are at me" I explained, grinning slightly. It was quite fun, imagining my parents waiting for my owl as I told them in which house I got sorted. "I wonder how surprised they would have been, if I got sorted into Hufflepuff or even weirder, Ravenclaw! Even though I enjoy reading I don't think I would be able to pull off the things they do..." admitting this came natural for me, as I never even thought that I will be sorted into the house of eagles.
I noticed at some point during class, that Marco put down his quill in defeatment, which surprised me a bit. Did he not understood the lesson? I bit my lower lip, chewing on it in concentration for a few seconds. Maybe I could help him later? I think I did pretty good on this lesson, if I am honest. I understood nearly everthing the professor told us. I was sure the rest could be solved, when I would read through my textbooks later.

A Charming Encounter
He tilted his head to the side at the comment of it 'being like the magic of the body', offering a small chuckle. "Ah, yes, you could say that. Very clever." He said with a nod. He's not really someone who makes friends that easily, in fact, he's had a rough time so far, only seeming to have made friends with one boy; Charles Moore. Honestly, Charles is all Marco could really ask for in a friend. He's kind and courageous and is always there to stick up for Marco. It makes his heart swell with joy whenever he talks to Charles, a soft feeling of security drapes over him. In fact, while thinking of Charles, Marco's face seemed to light up with joy. A soft smile playing at the corners of his lips as a relaxed glint came to his eyes. Don't get him wrong though, it's not a crush sort of thing, it's more of a deep admiration for Charles. Marco wishes he were half the person Charles is, maybe then this kind of stuff would be a lot easier for him.
He offered a small giggle. "As much as Lyrell deny when I ask, she knew I was Hufflepuff. She refuse to admit though." He chuckled a bit. "Non, friend, I think you are very smart, yeah? Ravenclaw's are smart, like you. You would be good Ravenclaw." He replied.
Don't get Marco wrong, Alan, he really is trying, and he's getting it sort of. It's just hard for him to be able to do it as fast as they are going. He can't process the information this fast. But he's honestly too terrified to ask them to slow down. They'd all laugh at him for not understanding. He's be ridiculed as stupid and slow. That's the last thing he wanted right now, so he simply put up with it, trying to work at a pace that was quick enough to keep caught up.

A Charming Encounter
Alan gave a toothy grin to the other, he was warming up fast, he always did. He did not know what distrust was. He would always open up to people, thinking the best, searching only for their good traits instead of concentrating on the bad ones, on their mistakes. Everyone had mistakes, so why should he let that lead his judging on others?
“I like Hufflepuffs, they are very nice and always try their best to helps. You too, you directly tried helping me with that body magic of yours” he said grinning with a a soft sparkle in his eyes. It was true. He never met a Hufflepuff that was not kind. He did not talk with many students yet, but he simply knew and hoped for this to be true – his naive mind would not let him think otherwise.
“I don't really think I would fit into Ravenclaw that good, you know? I just don't share their ambitions or love to study... If I am not interested I will not study at all sometimes... ehhh...” he giggled a bit. “But I like Charms and Transfiguration, they are fun and teach you spells you can use to prank people” he admitted.

A Charming Encounter
Marco is similar to Alan in that sense, except sometimes he looks too much for that good. He believes that even people who have hurt him, teased him, called him names, and just all around made him feel lesser to them, even have a little good in them too. He thinks that the lack of it that they show, just means there's more inside.
He offered a soft giggle, trying to keep quiet while the professor taught. "Thank you, Alan." He doesn't get compliments very often, so he's probably turned beet-red by now. Nervously, he tucked some hair behind his ear. "If you say so," Marco stated.
At the mention of pranks, Marco seemed to tilt his head to the side. "Pranks? You like pranking people?" That made Marco feel a bit nervous. Was... was this a prank? Was the other pranking him? Maybe Alan talking to Marco was one big joke. When class is over, Alan will go laugh it up with his friends about the small Russian boy who couldn't follow along to even one lesson, who couldn't speak correctly. It put a pit in his stomach, but he tried to brush it off. No, Marco, it'd be wrong to assume as much of him.
